  1. Hello Just wanted to donate some money to the club but did not find any "Membership" on the website. As you know I am Evertonian (and I hope you remember my story and why Notts County) but I really like Notts County. And as Evertonian I am not sure if it's good idea to buy any club merch but Everton's. So what do you think if there are enough Notts supporters outside of Nottinghamshire or UK to provide Official Notts County Membership? Or it is there already and I just can't find it? Thanks

  2. Colin Slater, the voice of the club for so many decades, has passed away aged 87. Condolences to his family and everyone who knew him. People talk about legendary players and managers, but it was Colin who was at our side through all those moments of triumph or (more often) non-triumph. It'll be difficult to imagine Notts without him. Here's a nice piece the club published about him. https://www.nottscountyfc.co.uk/club/hall-of-fame/colin-slater-mbe/

So our next round will be on Tuesday 7 December, and I'll post the fixtures the weekend before. See you then!

  4. Anyone else feel this will be a good test to see how we can compete against a League two team? I really want to see Notts progress, a good cup run could bring so much more merit than just the prize money. It can give the squad some excitement and self-belief, which goes along way but for us fans, it gives us a taste of a good day out and most likely against a team whom we haven't faced for a few years. I'd like Notts to be mindful of injuries, whilst giving the odd player a chance. Matt Palmer needs to start, he does so much of the ball work that often gets unnoticed. His vision and ability to spot a pass, could lead to more chances. I'd partner him with Ed Francis, I know Frank Vincent has done well, but I just feel someone like Francis would enjoy more of the ball against a team like Rochdale. Ian Burchnall will have his plans and whatever happens, it's a day out but I do hope for a win.

  5. When a team's confidence is high, they can become unbeatable, and it's the same with losing but at the other end - things become harder. There's a mix of obvious issues, one of which I said with the mistake against Torquay, which is defensively we don't control the game well. This has always been down to the formation/tactics, but also the players in the crucial areas simply not being at the stage where they can do the roles at an acceptable level. I mean, all the blame Sam Slocombe got - it seemed unfair to me. It came across like people looking for someone to blame, I think it's incorrect. I think one key issue is being hands-on with pressing, marking, and actually dealing with threats. If there's a lot of pressure, it's like we can't absorb play or prevent things from happening. Focus becomes too much, players stop doing the basics. I am not sure if it can be pointed to just a tactical issue, Pressure can make people react unnatural, and I think when we lose this becomes part of the equation. The players aren't crap, they're just ineffectively coping or dealing with games as they probably should do. Whilst I believe that the loss of Sam Slocombe, Connell Rawlinson, and Kyle Cameron has been a huge impact on things. I do feel it's not related to just pressure, confidence, injuries etc. I also, still believe that some players aren't quite up to par with their fitness - although I do acknowledge that this should have less impact. With form, and what I said beforehand coming into play. Another point I feel that is worth making, I don't think Michael Doyle will make much of a difference, but again I could be wrong. The next win should naturally ease things, I'd like to see the club play actual centre backs once able to do so - this again should help with the formation/tactics. Yet, nothing will change until Notts stops being so predictable, or soft on the ball. I'm not looking for excuses either, I say what I think and feel.

  6. Thanks @DangerousSausagefor all your hard work this season it's been a lot of fun. Well done to @Dripsey3 a well deserved winner. Lets hope Notts and Stags can do the same in the play offs!

  7. Before I get into it, I agree with what IB said in yesterday's interview about us having chances we should have taken in the first half and Grimsby being the better team in the 2nd half. That is correct. He's changed it up before earlier in the season, when we went on a bad run and I hope we change it up again. However something needs to be said about us a whole. I don't think we act like we want to go up. We are regarded as a "big fish" in this league and we need to start acting like it without the self entitlement. No less than 100% every week. Other clubs who were relegated into this league had that mentality: Leyton Orient, Tranmere, Bristol Rovers etc. Other teams who had this further up the system: Bolton in League Two last season, Villa in the Championship, Newcastle in the Championship. We've got to realise and the players have to realise that we're Notts County in the National League and being 8th is unacceptable. I don't think we have the self entitlement like a certain Wrexham, but it's more a self congratulatory mindset of "we've been on a good run that'll do" kind of thing. It's the sort of thing where we go "Oh it doesn't matter, we'll still score in a bit or we'll get points next game." We're allowing ourselves to take the foot off the pedal too many times. No less than 100% on and off the pitch to get out of this league. The club needs to look at itself and realise it's unacceptable to be "just hoping to get into the play-offs." Not being cocky or arrogant, but we are the biggest fish in this league and scraping into the play-offs isn't good enough. I'm not saying either that we should be beating teams in this league just because we are a bigger club than them. I'm saying that a lot more hard work and a ruthless mentality, is needed to achieve promotion and win against whoever the opposition is. It was the same throughout last season and we only really got going in the second half of 2019/20 as well,. There's not been a siege mentality of hard work and high standards for a long time and it needs to change.

  8. Awful news, @cheeky~k8 mentioned it and even though I know he's been declining (very frail) - this type of thing hits home. He'll always be remembered and, to those who refer to him as 'Uncle Colin' - It's difficult to drop the uncle part, even if he did insist it was just Colin. I am thankful for having known and interviewed him, listening to his background and, life story was something I couldn't miss. Through the interview, I often exchanged conversations via e-mail, until a few years back, when he simply stopped responding. His writing, which he kindly wrote for us, before having a column in the match day programme, was always amazing to read. I felt truly humble to have someone like Colin support the Pride of Nottingham and, understand what it was I was trying to do. Thank you for all your contributions, Colin Slater. Rest in Peace.

  9. Tonight has been such sad news. For me, he has been the voice of Notts for both commentary and news for all of my life. I remember sitting by the radio as a kid waiting for any second half commentary or news on Notts and he was the man that always brought it, without him I would have probably ended up as a Man Utd fan! Tonight though has probably brought me my best ever day reading social media feeds, such great tributes show the respect that people had for him, not one bad word. Thank you Colin.

  10. I've done some new wallpapers, 1-10 of this seasons squads. I do have others backlogged that I never found the time to release, which I will be looking into. I am happy to take on your favourite player, the wallpapers are one of the ways I give back to fans.

  11. I am a big fan of Ian Burchnall's post match comments, his well thought out responses and tactical knowledge is a joy. He's not afraid to point things out, in a very constructive and calm manner. He's by far the most enjoyable manager, that I go out of my way to hear what his thoughts are.

  12. I have a hatred of listening to managers, I think my favourite in the past 20 years is Martin Allen. He cracked me up, but I also felt he explained things well and kept it interesting. Kevin Nolan at times could provide good thoughts, plus a cheeky tone to his responses, but for the most part, I found them to be dull. Harry Kewell and, Neal Ardley tended to put me to sleep. Ardley was better, sometimes reminding our fans that he cared/is human. Yet his talk of football just seemed defensive of his decisions to set up our squad to draw games. We've had some really baffling managers who gave poor interviews, no worse than Jamie Fullarton. I do, from time to time, listen to Ian Burhcnall, who does speak very well and shows a good level of understanding of how things pan out during games. I also like how he admits when he's wrong, whilst carefully criticising certain play - I don't think he names players either when its called for. It's good to have someone whom the fans are getting behind more and more.

  13. Notts are currently 5 points behind 1st place Boreham Wood after this past weekend's 1-0 victory over Grimsby Town. The National League season so far has been at times unpredictable and, after the 3 defeats in a row, it did leave some questions to be asked by some supporters. However, confidence and form within the camp seems to be lifting - with some good and, predictably poor performances. I think these types of results are something which will happen, yet Ian Burchnall does need to try to bring consistency to the performances - it should come with time. I ask you, how do you feel right now? Do you feel Notts can crack on with the season now, or do you feel daunted by a tough run of fixtures coming up?

  15. I haven't noticed any ill comments towards DKE, myself. It's debatable as to the benefits he brings to the squad, something which I think should always be welcomed. Fans will naturally like certain players, others will simply not. I also, think timing and performances plays a role, if there's a meltdown or worry within the Notts community - I think that will bring this sort of comments out. However, there's no room for abusive or hateful comments. Calling a professional footballer that gives an 100%, just seems lazy and a rash way to call a player. Very childish...

  16. It's a tough decision, ever since we ended up here - the majority said its hard but yet some still think we should be running away with the league. I think if you look at any of the serious contenders, there's room for improvement and I think for us it's all about focus. Chesterfield have taken themselves from being a dire National League team, to one fighting for promotion. And, at least we aren't Wrexham. I am happy with the season so far, but if we lost a game - I won't be reading what the majority of others have to say. Mostly because it soon takes its toll when all you want to do is enjoy the season for what it is.

  19. I posted this after Chesterfield signed Tshimanga. I'm certainly no mystic meg, you only have to watch a couple of interviews to see that there was something off about his character. I'm surprised that its come so quickly after a slight blip in form (loss and draw in the last 2), but one way or the other this seemed inevitable. He has history surrounding the alleged claims - and at this stage it's all alleged pending investigation - but the rumours are flying around on social media. I genuinely hope that this isn't the tip of the iceberg. Paying 200-300 k for a striker and having to crowdfund for frost covers is a big red flag. I say that with no malice intended - nobody wants to see another side crippled by financial instability due to irresponsible owners/boards. Chesterfield still have a decent squad and are a threat at the upper echelons of the NL - but if we're serious about getting top spot, I seem to think Stockport and Wrexham are perhaps the bigger competition.

  20. I think it fairly obvious that we are still lacking a striker who will run in behind and is a bit more clinical than what we currently have. Georgie Kelly - 24 y/o Irish striker playing for Donegal in the LOI Premier League. - 23 in 35 for this season. Scored a few in the league below too but not as prolific in the premier league in previous seasons. - Maintains a central position and on the shoulder of the defenders. - Looks to finish first time. - Tall and looks decent in the air, but might not be the quickest. - Contract ends at the end of December, but might be beyond our reach?

  26. I dislike Rochdale ever since the season we won the league, their fans whinging about us cheating to win the league. I would love it if we gave a chance to some of the fringe players and, used the in form squad members then smashed them.

  27. I'm confident that if we can keep the squad and especially Cameron fit, then we will be strong enough to crack the top 3 again. We need a goalscorer, Roberts to find his form and Ruben to carry on what he is doing up front. If we have to cover injuries, do it with experienced loanees, rather than kids. I don't think the fixtures coming up are any harder than the ones we have had, plus we haven't played the bottom 4/5 in the division yet and as I mentioned the other day, without injuries to Cameron and Rawlinson, I think we would be top or very near to it. I'm looking for us to be around 4th in the table by the halfway point and hopefully still within 5 points of the top position. Strngthen a couple of positions for the second half of the season and have a real crack at finishing top. The key will be if the Burchnall football will still be as effective on the heavy winter pitches.

The next fixtures will be on Saturday 13 November, so expect to see the next round posted here the Wednesday before that. In the meantime, I will float around the board offering nuggets of wisdom on important matters, such as: which 80s players had the best moustaches? And did Clive Platt really have a 19-year career in the Football League, or was it all just a fever dream? Take care!

  29. Luke Charman - 23 y/o striker at Darlington in the NLN. - 7 in 8 this season. - Scored a few for Newcastle U23s/PL2 - Played with Cal Roberts and I imagine Kyle Cameron in that Newcastle youth/reserve side. - Can drop off a main striker like Wootton or run in behind. - Looks to finish as main priority. - Signed a contract until 2022 but would imagine any fee wouldn't be outlandish.

  34. So with last nights results for Grimsby and Chesterfield does that put our loss at the weekend into perspective? For me it just goes to show that this league is still massively unpredictable and no matter what we as supporters think/expect most teams are capable of beating each other on their day. It’s going to be another exciting season again I just hope we’ve done enough come the end of it.

  36. And so it begins, who had 7 games into the season for the first manager to be sacked? Well two managers have gone in the same day. Harry Kewell leaves Barnet second from bottom with 2 points and 0 wins. Danny Searle leaves Aldershot third from bottom with 4 points and 1 win. I'm more shocked with the Aldershot one, they played well against us and the teams before us by all accounts. They've just won and draw as well so I feel they would've gradually been on the way up. And they've played us, Chesterfield, Boreham Wood, Yeovil and Solihull - all teams in the top 10. Not an easy start at all. I think they've made a big mistake there. As for the sacking of Harry Kewell, he isn't exactly a guy that fans warm too, but he's signed a lot of players in the summer - and a lot of them have been players he's worked with before. Yes they've started badly but when a manager signs a whole new squad you've got to give him a bit of time... I think Barnet will really struggle this season.

  40. Before the game I thought this was going one of two ways; either another game of lacklustre play and missed chances or we’ll totally dominate and score a few. Didn’t think we’d get 6 though! Pleased for Sam, totally earned that start and delivered with the goals too. Bromley lost, Chesterfield and Stockport drew & we get +5 in the GD… Couldn’t have gone any better. (Well apart from that one idiot who hopefully won’t be allowed back).

  41. Jaros 6 great penalty save, the real problem is in front of him Brindley 5.5 Some good runs first half and a good block too. Caught out by a poor square pass too. Whole defence went missing in the 2nd half Lacey 5 Lucky to escape a red. Ability to influence passes from the back limited Cameron 5 Never a penalty... again our organisation at the back at fault on dead balls Taylor 5 better 1st half. final ball not there Richardson 5 effectiveness decreasing week on week. Palmer 5 unable to influence game Brunt 4 needs to take the ball and make things happen. It didnt happen Ruben 4.5 Looked to have taken a knock. Missed a good header chance Roberts 6.5 The only real bright spot. Took his goal well..just found it difficult 2nd half to get into the game Wootton 4.5 Marked out, tried to drop deeper but had zero effect

  43. Have you ever used the mood feature? I used to notice the changes a fair bit, especially after games. I have re-enabled the feature, after having some small issues after the last major upgrade. It's now back, with a change of icons and a few extra moods! Currently, I feel mischievous, but I am not saying why. You'll need to get @GrannyPie to tell me off, in order to explain further. What is your current mood set to and why?

  44. I aim pleased Ian Burchnall navigated the defeats, whilst avoiding falling back on Michael Doyle. I believe this opened the door for Frank Vincent, who I would say has taken his chance and positively impacted the team. Ed Francis is a fine player in the making, but he's just a little lightweight at times. Vincent finding his way into the team, along with the return of key players has helped a lot. I think the club can build on this point, with the players looking like they're enjoying playing. Its important I feel to work a little harder in those games we struggle for possession. This way we might grind out some more victories as Notts did against Grimsby.

  45. I think we are in a good place from what I’ve seen of this league so far early pace setters rarely last the distance I’d like to be sitting top 3 or 4 with a 2 or 3 point gap come Christmas then it’s time to hit top gear and go on that run as that’s the time the title winners seem to hit their stride

  46. I agree with @Chris. Pineapple has to be the best pizza topping in my opinion I don't know how you could say anything bad about it. @DangerousSausage @Piethagoram

  47. Just back to South London So normally aligned with @Elite_pie in reading a game, but I thought Francis had a shocker. For every one decent pass, there were some complete dross. Slocombe 6 well protected but was called on a couple of times to make decent saves Brindley 6 Like when he does his forward runs into space, though once, he got badly caught Taylor 5.5 Very much a confidence player, just checks inside all too often Lacey 7.5 One early mistake, but didnt put a foot wrong. MoTM Cameron 6.5 Went off injured, some good, some bad...but it's good to have his heading ability in attacking situations Francis 4 see opening comment. Need a younger Neal Bishop in this role Palmer 6 Much improved 2nd half, if only he had some scoring boots on him. Mr recycle the ball Roberts 6 There is a sense of anticipation, like in the days of McSwegan when he gets the ball. Poor penalty and missed a beautiful set up from Ruben. Marked down with a stupid booking Ruben 6.5 Poor first half, but in reality, was well marked. Some good 2nd half moments Wootton 6 Not a lot of chances, effort yes,but things didnt click today Mitchell 6 A step up on Sam, really needs a goal for confidence Subs JOB 6 I lost count the number of his runs where no pass was forthcoming. Chicksen 7 Very much a player reborn under Ian. Slotted in well Better teams may find us out defensively. Can we raid Derby for a centre half and midfield general a la Neal Bishop?
