  1. LAH - 6 - Conceded 5. Not sure if any were his fault.

Brindley - 5 - Thought he was OK, surprisingly.
Baldwin - 2 - Slippy mc slipperson. Gaffe a minute.
    Cameron - 3 - He's poor. Can't defend.

    Nemane - 6
Jones - 5 - Nothing really worked. He's useless on the right, not sure why Maynard likes him and Nemane out there.

Bostock - 2 - Completely overrun. Can't do the basics defensively and useless under pressure.
    Austin - 4 - Anonymous
    Crowley - 7 - Only bright spark.

Langstaff - 3 - First touch of a serial killer and that miss, jesus wept.
    McGoldrick - 3 - Didn't bring anything.

Scott Roberson - 6 - Someone who actually put a foot in and got to grips with their midfield.
    JOB - 5
Randall - 3 - Are we sure this lad is a pro footballer?

  2. Out of contract:

Richard Brindley - Release. Never convinced by his defensive ability even in the NL and doesn't give enough going forward.

Tobi Adebayo-Rowling - Release. He's not good enough.

John Bostock - Release. Can't use his ability alone to dominate L2 midfield like he could in the NL. Lost without Palmer.

Jim O'Brien - Coaching role with squad number.

Aden Baldwin - Keep. Always got a howler in him, but his ability to advance with the ball, pick a decent pass and his pace, make him a unique defender at this level.

    Luther Munakandafa - No idea.

Cedwyn Scott - Keep - Worth another year, depending on how he returns from injury.

Geraldo Bajrami - Unsure. Not a regular started in NL. Leave it to the manager to decide.

    In contract:

Adam Chicksen - Love his passion, but we need to improve.

Connell Rawlinson -Always loved Rawlo and all the effort he has put into his time at Notts, but the way we play isn't suited to him.

Sam Slocombe - A fantastic servant to the club over the years, but it is time.

Aidan Stone - We needed to strengthen our keeping department in the summer. Somehow we managed to dilute it.

Will Randall - Weird signing. Always injured, never looked good enough.

Kyle Cameron - Not quick enough. Gets beaten way too easily 1on1 .

As things stand, I don't see how we can justify the huge risk of keeping SM on for next season. Points-wise we have been the worst team in L2 since he was appointed, and it's not all down to bad luck. In particular his "strategy" of dropping back when we take the lead has cost us lots of points recently.

Agreed. This is the most frustrating part of SMs tenure for me. It seemed LW had a handle on our defensive frailties, and by that I mean he knew all about them and focussed on attacking or at least keeping the ball and not allowing the opposition to attack us too much. That seemed to be the high level plan, with varying success.

SM seems to try and sit back, which inevitably leads to failure as our defence is dog toffee. This essentially is creating stress in the weakest part of our structure and being repeatedly surprised when it buckles.

Half the side are simply not good enough for league 2, we all know that. That's down to the previous Manager not sorting the problems out when he had plenty of opportunity to do so.

Most on social media were praising Stuart and the side after the game

Some people need to get over Luke Williams. He got us promoted then messed things up big time.

Looks like the owners want to give Stuart time. We weren't ready for promotion anyway.

I remember big Sam had a very bad start and people at the time were calling for his head too. Look how that turned out

    ??!!

Luke Williams is the reason we have a L2 team to support next season and not a National League team. Let it be clear; if the team performed for LW like they have for SM, we'd be back in the pit of misery next season.

Austin was injured, so it was a forced change, and Stuart changed to another midfielder. Bostock isn't the player he was earlier in the season, Jatta had run his socks off and his not yet up to full fitness and was taken off for McGoldrick who is regarded as one of our best players.

Just remember, Stuart selected Jatta to start the game ahead of McGoldrick so that was a good move on Stuart's part.

Ashley-Hamnond, Austin, and Jatta were picks that paid off today, Jones was another good substitution that supplied an assist for the third goal.

So all in all it was a good game for Stuart, You can't blame him for individual defensive errors either.

Was he? Didn't seem injured to me. Bostock was the wrong sub to bring on, lost the midfield from that point.

    McGoldrick didn't look fit.

I'm sorry, you can fanboy for SM all you like, but 1 single point at home does not constitute 'a good game for Stuart'.

  6. The overwhelming feeling is that we are just woeful at defending. The slightest bit of pressure almost guarantees the opposition a goal.

Substitutions almost cost us the game. Energy that Austin brings completely lost when Bostock was brought on. Taking your best defender off and bringing on Warner is baffling. The kids on twitter proclaimed him to be the next van Dijk, however the more I see him the worse he becomes. Not a clue how to position himself defensively. Jatta off was another strange sub.

Just to say a big thank you for all of your support.

It's been a troubling month but I am thankful that the cysts found were non cancerous.

Today, I have completed 57 years supporting Notts...not sure how many years I have left. Though I do feel I will pass this world at the San Sirrel , after another defensive clanger that will finish me off 😉

Glad you are on the mend @Piethagoram. Notts actually are good for the old ticker - they make sure to give your heart the full range of beats per minute during a game - almost more effective than sprint training.

  8. Slocombe - 6 - Couldn't have done much with either goal. Distribution was OK, given the statues in front of him.

    Cameron - 4 - Can't defend.
    Warner - 4 - Can't defend.
    Macari - 7 - Excellent defender.

Jones - 4.5 - Off day. Doesn't work on the right wing.
Chicksen - 4 - Always passes back, can't beat a man. One dimensional and predictable.

Robertson - 6 - First half he was excellent. His man he let run through for the 2nd?
Austin - 5 - One of our better performers, but big mistake for the goal.
Crowley - 5 - No chemistry with Jones, both try and do the same thing.

    Langstaff - 4.5 - Poor.
    Jatta - 5 - Average.

JOB - 4 - Tried to do the spectacular over and over. Had somebody told him he is Zidane before he came on?
    McGoldrick - 4 - Poor.

  9. LAH - 7 - Didn't have a deal to do, but did it well. Decision-making was solid and distribution on the whole was decent.

Warner - 5 - Calamity in the first half. Extremely lucky Bradford are woeful and couldn't capitalise on his numerous mistakes. Improved in the 2nd half, largely as Bradford stopped attacking.
    Cameron - 6 - Mistake-prone in 1st half, improved thereafter.
Macari - 8 - Proper defender and footballer.

Robertson - 6.5 - Lot of good stuff, made some mistakes but didn't prove costly.
Austin - 6.5 - Does a lot of the unseen things that make the team more effective without shining a spotlight on himself.
Jones - 7.5 - Some brilliant balls and of course gets more assists. Makes strange decisions at times.
Nemane - 7 - He was decent today. Lot of great touches going forward on a  difficult pitch.
Crowley - 8.5 - Bradford defenders' heads still probably spinning. Given the freedom of VP. Loses his runner at times defensively.

Langstaff - 7 - Got his goal. Should have had at least another. Kept going.
Jatta - 8 - Awkward attacker that gives us a lot of options. Great header, even better 1 v 1 finish. Doesn't always win headers when we go long, but causes them enough of a problem that they can't comfortably clear it.

For perspective; Bradford were atrocious. They're as bad as we are defending, but they can't attack either. Their pitch is an abomination. The first half of football was as bad as anything the NL serves up.

Can't remember much about the ref - must've had a decent game!

  10. This really is the battle of the terrible. Somehow, Bradford are winning that battle so far and showing themselves to be even worse than we are.

Cameron and Warner winning the mini battle of the terrible for Notts so far. They're both begging to gift a goal away.

So I had another look at the stream this evening cos I wanted to see some little bits of action again and I noticed at the start of the stream ifollow had footage of all the Notts players getting off the bus and one of them was Charlie, he wasn’t hobbling nor was he on crutches! They certainly wouldn’t bother taking an injured player down to Newport would they? I'm pretty sure clubs take spare players just in case you get a freak injury during the warm-up...

    Considered a private investigator career?

  12. It was a really good performance to make the form team in the league look extremely below par.

Very daring by Stewart Maynard to switch formations and keeper in the same game. I'm sure, to coin a Paul Mace phrase, the social media numpties, have now 180'd quicker than Jodi Jones.

Keeper looked excellent with his feet and distribution on the whole. Made the correct decision time and time again, could tell her was trusted by the defence too. However, had a couple of dodgy moments with the ball in hand. I think that's what we'll have to settle for with him, brilliant on the deck, always a mistake in him though.

Jodi Jones is just different class. He's far beyond L2 level.

Robertson fantastic last night. Dominated the midfield by covering every blade and being really effective with the ball at his feet.

Cameron's performance was concerning. Most of Newport's danger moments came from his side. The amount of time attackers could run in behind him was evident, plus his slow reaction time. Lucky Baldwin covered for him for the most part. He was however, much more dominant in the air.

  13. Morning.

As always with political decisions, there will be lots of debate and differences of opinion.

It has become more of a modern trend to completely disregard the opposite view to your own, 'othering' the people who subscribe to them as it means that you don't have to concede ground mentally and your side of the argument will appear (at least to one's self) that you are in the correct position. Rarely are these things black and white, despite our club allegiances.

Common social media platforms - Twitter the most prominent - promote echo bubbles where people of the same opinion constantly interact with one-another, reinforcing the position of the person and giving a false sense that everybody thinks the same, bar a mad few lunatics.

This platform creates a Notts County bubble - mostly - so will inevitably promote Notts bias. It will however, mean you'll encounter different views that aren't Notts related, which is healthy and more consistent with real life.

A common reasoning exercise is to consider what a person who believes the opposite might be thinking, and where there may be valid truth and reasoning in that thinking. If you draw a blank on that exercise, I'd prompt that you disengage from one-another as the exchange will not achieve anything.

If you are actively debating and both are open to changing your views given certain evidence or reasoning, then please do continue in a respectful manner.

  14. Extremely poor.

Stone isn't the keeper we need.

All this talk about defending as a unit, but the back 3 plus keeper can't clear basic crosses to the back stick.

Mcgoldrick was poor again. Not sure how his second touch at times is so poor.

Langstaff poor. Some very good chances he squandered.

Bostock looks lost and / or knackered.

Nemane is such a strange footballer. He has all the skills and attributes, but his decision making is shocking.

It's easier to say who I thought had a decent game; Baldwin, Jones and Robertson.
