Facebook Issues: Down or Hacked?
AmericanPie replied to Chris's topic in Granny Pie's General Discussion
Meta and Facebook, although still popular, aren't very trusted, and Elon Musk is making x.com feel similarly. In the part of Texas where I reside, we have our own community site, a blend of PON and Facebook. I wouldn't mind if the mainstream platforms faded away; I never got into MySpace, so having a local alternative is quite ideal. -
Congratulations, ladies! A proud victory, and hopefully the first of many in your upcoming games.

Welcome to the community @Colin Phillips! I'm delighted to greet you. Feel free to share a bit about yourself, like why Notts is your choice!
-
I've been part of forums before, and they often make you feel invisible, with just one or two friendly folks. Even on small sites, like a niche one for long-distance drivers with around 50 active members, it was unexpectedly hostile and unfriendly to beginners. I eventually gave up on it. Community matters, as does a positive online environment (PON), and I miss posting when I can't be online. While I may not know many well, those I feel acquainted with are the ones who contribute to making this site a welcoming place.

Great news! I'm optimistic that Matt Palmer will return even stronger, seamlessly resuming his role as if he hasn't missed any games at all. His importance to the team's success is undeniable. Despite potential player losses next summer, I'm confident he'll be with us next season, dominating the midfield as always.

wishing you well piethagoram
AmericanPie replied to liampie's topic in Granny Pie's General Discussion
Speaking from experience, it works both ways. I feel truly humbled to be on the receiving end as well as the one reaching out. The post on x.com appears somber, mentioning pain, but I sincerely wish you well, @Piethagoram. It's evident that there are people here who care about you, so I hope that's a positive for you. -
is winning games now the only way to lift the notts camp?
AmericanPie replied to liampie's topic in Jimmy Sirrel Stand
I'm very willing to support Stuart Maynard, even though I'm overseas. I believe having a logical way of thinking is important. I can understand to some extent why some people are booing; it doesn't help, but people need to express their frustrations. However, it shouldn't go further than that. The only way to win over doubters is by winning games. I'm not sure what more Maynard can do. He appears to be making an effort, and I wouldn't say he's overwhelmed, but rather, he's trying to establish himself and make his mark on the team. -
Log: Members who are away
AmericanPie replied to Burnz3r0's topic in Granny Pie's General Discussion
Yes, this would be really helpful. I can see it would've been useful when I was in hospital and getting better. Even though I might not have said it, I could have given a general idea of when I should be back. It's a good thing to have. -
Welcome, @ShannockPie. We're a friendly bunch of fans and if you do put in any time by commenting, I am certain you will get a lot more out of PON.

It's a tad unclear, but I understand the idea. Picture yourself recalling those promotion years, with Jimmy Sirrel and all the legends we've sadly lost over time.

I grasp the disapproval following the Sutton game, but I can't comprehend why certain fans haven't given Stuart Maynard a fair opportunity. Instantly desiring a manager to be dismissed isn't a positive reflection for a supposed supporter. Unfortunately, some individuals, particularly in this era, simply relish a good complaint. I acknowledge the reaction after Sutton; I wouldn't have jeered, but losing to the team firmly at the bottom of the table and conceding 9 goals against them naturally stirs heightened emotions. If this persists in substantial proportions, that's a distinct concern. It would be regrettable to see the connection established with promotion severed so early.

Happy a birthday Super Ram
AmericanPie replied to Fan of Big Tone's topic in Granny Pie's General Discussion
Happy birthday, young man! I hope your years of wisdom and lovely family make it a birthday to feel even more blessed. All the best, @super_ram. -
The Lego version of Meadow Lane looks absolutely stunning, a fine remake of one of the best football grounds.

Historical Notts County Players. James Cantrell.
AmericanPie replied to Robbie's topic in Jimmy Sirrel Stand
@Robbie With limited playing options and no substitutes, it's even more remarkable to acknowledge that we won it with a squad that truly deserved to take home the cup. -
Maynard’s plans for the week ahead
AmericanPie replied to Fan of Big Tone's topic in Jimmy Sirrel Stand
He should intensify his training efforts and hope for a win this weekend. The atmosphere around the club has become unpleasant, and some fans are exacerbating the situation. Currently, the focus should be on long-term stability rather than short-term gains. In the National League, the ability to sign players at any time supported our improvements and addressed existing weaknesses. Until the end of this season, Maynard or whoever is the manager can only make do, and the right working environment is crucial. -
I sympathise with Stuart Maynard; he has contributed to performance improvements at times, but the players are hindering progress. The situations against Mansfield and Wrexham could have been worse. Attempting to address inconsistency by changing formations and the starting lineup hasn't proven effective. Our owners should permit squad depth to ensure quality, allowing players to be rested and dropped when out of form. Maynard is facing criticism, but the only fault I see is in dropping Aidan Stone.

The Toughness of Leagues: A Discussion on the UK Game
AmericanPie replied to AmericanPie's topic in English Football
They constructed teams starting from the back, with a solid keeper, defense, hardworking midfielder, and clinical forwards. They identified what was lacking, regardless of age, and integrated their style into their envisioned way of playing. Brian Clough had Pete Taylor, a great player spotter. Jimmy Sirrel focused on homegrown players and coaching to fulfill potential. Nowadays, clubs emphasise ability and, more recently, statistics. -
Transfer that never happened : Jack Vale Blackburn
AmericanPie replied to Piethagoram's topic in English Football
He doesn't appear to be a suitable replacement for Macaulay Langstaff; his current record doesn't seem sufficient. Regarding deleting Twitter, it's a plausible theory, but I doubt he did it for any reason other than to shield himself from the negative tweets about Notts. Fans will express their opinions, and savvy players will distance themselves from such comments. I'd confidently bet on this. -
Without player improvements, I have doubts. Stuart Maynard appears to be struggling against a group of players who were in decline long before his arrival. The transition won't happen quickly enough, so let's ease the pressure and start by focusing on improving the form to salvage this season. Attracting players for improvement is crucial. Some fans booing aren't promoting reasons to stay, and it's disappointing. I understand poor form is the main issue. What began as a slight landslide is worsening due to the negative atmosphere. It's tough for a new manager when fans won't give him a chance. Maynard has faced challenges, and Luke Williams left at the right time. Unfairly, the blame is falling on Maynard.

No one ever criticises Jodi Jones for his weak marking and defensive duties. The second mistake, anyone else would have faced consequences for. He's a great player, but it emphasizes that errors occur, and scapegoats are formed. Dan Crowley has been truly impressive since joining; if fans can be critical and boo, he certainly has the right to silence them when performing well. If he wasn't, I would understand. Disappointed with the club, players, and fans.

The council has no reason to refuse. Forest was given approval for their fan zone, and repurposing the area could bring numerous benefits. Hosting events at the location instead of inside Meadow Lane might incur higher staffing costs, so it's a sensible choice.

Deadpool and Notts County
AmericanPie replied to Piethagoram's topic in Granny Pie's General Discussion
It wouldn't surprise me if it was included as an Easter egg by the man himself. There are probably other scenes with other references that are yet to be unearthed. I would love to see a better close-up picture! -
Hello, welcome. It's a great community here and it thrives with fans opinions. Join in and see what fun you can get out of it @TruroPieSi.

Based on the highlights, I just don't see it, but perhaps the referee had a better view? Maybe it was the wrong call. I think it looks like the goal should have stood, but I do understand the decision. We wouldn't be complaining if this happened on the other foot, would we? It doesn't make it right, but we will be fine.

Remembering Granny Pie
AmericanPie replied to Fan of Big Tone's topic in Granny Pie's General Discussion
I can't pretend I knew Granny Pie, but I wish I had. She seemed like a lovely, spirited person who cared about others settling in. I feel terribly sorry for her family; it's such a sad loss, and you can tell how much she meant to people. That says a lot about her. I send my thoughts to the family, and I hope @super_ram can smile and raise a glass to Granny Pie.
