  1. How did the referee perform?

I thought he actually did very well, he seemed to miss things but generally play to continue. He didn’t seem to be on either team's side which makes a change, and I know he made some poor decisions but within League Two I expect this.

One word...incredible.... Bottled the head lock red card decision.... Wiseman red card seemed to have been used to makeup for the earlier decision. Need refs to get the big decisions right...

  2. Piethagoram stands back and takes a broader view of the contracts situation. It says more about our lacking in recruitment research than anything positive to the players that have re-signed. How many more times will we suffer needless penalties being given away by Duffy and Hollis? Lack of challenges by Hewitt, the tearing apart of him by Kyle Bennett at Portsmouth unfortunately lives long in the memory. Curtis was a bit part player yet Richards isn't offered a contract renewal and is told to earn it in pre season training?

I have confidence in Nolan but feel that we have been not tough enough in recognising the limitations of the existing squad

  3. From Nottingham Post:

"Stan is still injured. He just gets a different injury every week so I can't tell you when he'll be back," he said.

"It's not frustrating for me. I've just got to pick the players who want to play and who are fit.

"When you're injured you're no good to me, without being disrespectful.

"Stan keeps getting injuries here, injuries there. They're setting him back."

Rodman, a summer signing from Newport, has also not played since featuring against Boreham Wood.

Like Aborah, he has suffered from a series of minor setbacks.

"He's another who gets injuries for some reason, little niggly problems," Sheridan said.

"I don't know when he'll be back. I don't think it will be long. One week they're fit then they're not.

"John the physio is the best man to ask about them!"

Looks like Sheridan has discarded these 2?  To say speak to the Physio is unacceptable and unprofessional.

  4. @notts-joe Any further thoughts re Stead? :D

I have more confidence that we have a manager making in the main, the right decisions ( Stanley excepted :D ).

Scouting still remains vitally important. A recent tweet by Stan Collymore:

Man City. 52 scouts worldwide. Villa. 5. And 4 are analysts. Infrastructure. Infrastructure. Infrastructure.

In order to gain a competitive advantage, I still think we need to invest more in the scouting network.

  5. Quote As with any other business in the course of a potential sale, it is not unusual for creditor payments to be extended whilst discussions are ongoing with potential investors.

..not unusual?... Maybe usual practice for when one is suffering cash flow shortfalls, to stretch payment terms? How to tie a hand behind one's back before a new manager has even  started?

This quote is also worrying too..

    Quote

the need to find a genuine party with the right vision, skillset and resources remains their priority.

So parties sign NDA's, presumably fulfilling the first 2 criteria in advance! So if a price is agreed, how come they fail to proceed?

    Very worried

  6. Just to step back one moment to ponder, Ray's appointment of Ricardo meant a seismic change in football philosophy, to a progressive total football style along the lines that Swansea followed when they were in League 2. Well Ricardo's gung ho football did not deliver the results one would have anticipated. We naturally assumed that  Jamie was a more refined manager but still following Ricardo's style. On the evidence so far, we have retrenched back to Derry's hoofball but with a squad Ricardo built. Are the "pure" footballing talent being marginalised? What exactly did Winter mean by "Best fit"? We will see what Saturday brings

  7. @Alex West A nicely written piece. In terms of the squad, it is the piece of the squad that you have not highlighted that has been our downfall, namely the central defence ( and maybe the full backs too). We now have a glut of midfield players but the key elements of the defence were not given sufficient scrutiny. The shopping list last summer had to include a decent tall, no nonsense centre half. All we got was Bennett, which despite of so called good reports from Newport, doesnt really have the stature of what we were really looking for. Amevor, for the Reserves, looks more comfortable as a centre half but whether he gets the chance for the first team, maybe we will never know.

Some people have been praising the return of Adams. So when he does return, along with Bennett, they both get played in their secondary positions....midfield..isn't that where we are overloaded with "talent" in those positions?

In the Reserves, the defence is working fine, given the number of clean sheets. We just live in hope that Jamie pulls the lever on the one arm bandit and comes up with a winning defensive combination that works. All we have got so far on the machine are the proverbial Melons, with a soft centre
