  1. I don't know, I expect them to be stronger and more demanding on the ball. I think they might win but I just hope its a good game.
  2. First half Notts played the best football no doubt. The players seemed to run out of steam in the second half but played well. How Alan Smith's effort didn't cross the line i will never know but it was a game with a lot of desire and passion. All who played did so heroically, a much better performance.
  3. Fair points this to be honest. I thought Notts played quite well but we just unfit and not to the same level as Coventry.
  4. I actually thought both teams played okay. Notts made the usual mistakes that's all but I don't think we matched Coventry in terms of attitude, application or fitness. We looked out of steam after a short while and I think this is a part of the problem. Coventry deserved the win, no questions!
  5. I watch Coventry destroy us at Northampton and most of my memories are similar. Didn't Arquin get sent off for a stupid challenge? I think the score was 3-1. Good answers!
  6. I can see us winning 1-0. I hope Jorge Grant can start, we need him in midfield but Robert Milsom could do the task. We cant sit back and invite them to play, this would be very negative and I would think Kevin Nolan wants to be more direct. It will be a case of retaining the ball for us, difficult start but winner able.
  7. First time I will have seen a competitive friendly between the two clubs, I am looking forward to it! Forest should be more ready than we are but it will be a good game regardless. Fingers crossed we can defend our pride at Meadow Lane.
  8. It's just very frustrating to see players released, especially when they end up being linked back to us. It makes you wonder if it was worthwhile. Luther Wildin is a youth international and we got rid. We should find the budget to see more flourish, maybe even sell some to progress.
  9. There is a growing trend in English football which I feel highlights the flaws in youth progression. Many teams, from Premier League all the way down to League Two, tend to release promising young professionals only to re-sign them a few years later. It feels like the transition into first-team football is majorly flawed - perhaps due to too much pressure to produce good talent? We have seen this from the insane record-breaking transfer of Paul Pogba back to Manchester United, along with the free signing at Notts County of local player Terry Hawkridge. A few weeks ago Michael Keane was also linked with a move back to Man United for another incredible fee, although has since signed with Everton. And despite not being a youth, we have seen this pattern emerge with released players such as the recent saga between Notts and Forest Green Rovers for the services of Liam Noble. Back in 2009/10 when Notts restored its own development of youth players, a batch of professionals was produced who all looked fairly able to make the set up into the professional game, with the likes of Haydn Hollis, Curtis Thompson, Kyle Dixon and Liam Mitchell among others. Yet only Haydn Hollis and Curtis Thompson remain at the club, with other young players like Brad McGowan, Nathan Fox, Jordan Richards and even Montel Gibson all being released after failing to stake their claim for first-team football. So why are we failing to produce natural talent? I think clubs like Notts pile pressure onto young players who are simply not ready mentally for the dizzy heights of the professional game, with a lack of support and further development most likely attributing to the failure of these prospects. It argues the case that clubs like ours really need to help with the mental side, but not just this - having youngsters on the bench is a waste and I strongly feel that they should be sent out on loan where other teams can help establish them further with proper game time. Usually it's quite natural to see a player re-sign for his former club, yet in most cases these are seasoned professionals, players who know what to expect and still have links with the club. I would agree that Hawkridge and Elliot Hodge are prime examples that good players can make the right progression and become useful first team members if they’re only looked after more wisely. Luther Wildin and Jack McMillan are youngsters I was disappointed to see released, as they seemed very capable of making the step up and after the retained list was announced I felt exactly the same about Yohan Rutty-Smith. Whilst academies are getting smarter with their setup across the Football League, more support needs to be given in the lower leagues to enable teams to produce better players. I realise some fans will argue that naturally the players I mentioned are simply not good enough, yet when we fail to produce players who can make more than a few appearances, it does show that there is a lot more to be done. 10. On paper he looks very capable of being a great signing for Notts! I am pleased with this signing but we require a lot more quality and depth.
  11. I think he knows this too. Whilst it would be nice to retain him or buy him, I just think we are looking desperate by going on about him staying. It would be nice but we need to pull the net around other quality players. Plenty of young upcoming players around, we just need to find them.
  12. A visit to Wembley with no guarantee of promotion or a place in the top three, where's the clubs ambition? We need to be passionate about fighting for promotion, not relying on it via the playoffs.
  13. He comes across as a quite smart footballer, I hope his ability to answer questions thoughtfully and meaningfully will transpire on the pitch in his play.
  14. Nice timing really, with the Juve ties and this it shows the strong connection we have in other clubs histories. Inspiring write up @Joe Jones.
  15. I recall Alan Hardy saying he was in favour of B teams on Twitter, as he claimed it helped improved the English game.
  16. I am sure most understand the view point about extra bonuses. The thing I do not get is why the chairman would vote in favour of something which isn't going to be supported very well. The attendances throughout the majority of games was low and that was because fans opt out. If the cup is going to work, it needs further thought and consideration. There is that but when you do not take on board what your own fans say, well what is the point? Fans will opt out of providing their opinions and for good reasons, you need to feel your thoughts matter and in this case I understand why most feel this has not been the case. I am disappointed because I think we will lose more than what we would gain in bonuses.
  17. Both seem to have a good harmony and understanding, so its good to see how they are working together as one. Can we have Nolan tied down to a 10 year contract?
  18. It makes perfect sense, Kevin Nolan should try to work more closely with good academy clubs. Arsenal, Man City, United, Liverpool, Tottenham. Even more closer to home like Forest, Leicester City, Peterborough, Derby etc
  19. I would agree entirely and "simply allowed the game to pass him by" sums it up well. I'd love to know how many touches he had in the game.
  20. This is one thing about Hollis which deserves praise, he is always positive and focused. Under Kevin Nolan he has been a different player but he deserves more stability, its hard to be the player we need otherwise. Some fans need to lower their criticism of him.
  21. Very entertaining game well worth the season ticket price, the problem is if we do not chase promotion or play competitive football like we saw on Saturday, it really isn't. I hope this is the standard to expect next season, if so sign me up now.
  22. Adam Campbell has done well for Notts. It would be nice to see him mixed into a steady Kevin Nolan side, he hasn't had that but managed to get us goals before. He's not a winger, we are not Arsenal and we should play him as a striker simple as that. Colchester are nothing special but the game will favour those who are braver and work for it. I can see it being a draw also, so lets hope for entertainment and good officials.
