  3. Notts County bounced back from their 2017/18 League Two campaign opening-day 3-0 loss at Coventry City in impressive fashion, seeing off a dirty Chesterfield side 2-0 in Saturday's encounter at Meadow Lane. A heated encounter, Gozie Ugwu should have earned a red card for a number of clashes with home players, and was hauled off at half time by Gary Caldwell. Gibraltar international Scott Wiseman, meanwhile, did get his marching orders after hauling down Terry Hawkridge, denying him a clear goalscoring opportunity. In the end, the encounter was settled by the man of the moment, Jorge Grant, whose looping header to break the deadlock was followed up by a spectacular free kick into the bottom corner of the Spireites net. Pride of Nottingham was at Meadow Lane for the game and took plenty of photos as part of its regular Faces of PON feature - here are our top 5 pictures! #1 #2 #3 #4 #5 -- Click to view the full gallery 'Faces of PON' on Pride of Nottingham's popular Facebook page here. -- Share your thoughts about this below and don't forget to join in with the Pride of Nottingham by signing up to the website, visiting the forum and joining in the chat with hundreds of fellow Notts County fans.

  6. Pride of Nottingham are delighted to announce that we have sponsored Jonathan Forte's home kit for the 2017/18 season. The Barbados international is currently in his fourth spell at Notts County, having joined permanently from Oldham Athletic in July 2016. Prior to that, Forte had been on loan at Notts three times, in 2008 (four games, four goals), 2009 (14 games, four goals) and 2012 (10 games, five goals). This season, the Sheffield-born striker made his first appearance in the League Cup penalty shootout defeat to Scunthorpe United at Glanford Park, where he impressed up front. Notts manager Kevin Nolan had revealed prior to the game that he and Forte had a "frank discussion" at the weekend but, following the 120 minutes plus spot kicks at Scunthorpe, he had nothing but good things to say about the 31-year-old. “He harried them, he created chances for himself as well as others,” Nolan told the Nottingham Post. “It’s just exactly what I wanted from Forte which was to use what he’s best at. That was using his pace and a good touch to try to get shots off. He did all of it and I thought he was excellent on Tuesday night. “We had a frank discussion after the Coventry game and a few home truths come out. But he responded in the right way. He proved to me that he wants to be here and fight for his place. “That’s a great thing for me because he’s putting pressure on Jon Stead and Shola Ameobi which they thought they probably didn’t have on Tuesday night. So I have options and that’s great." Pride of Nottingham would like to wish Forte all the best for the remainder of the 2017/18 season - COME ON YOU PIES!!! 7. Ross Fitzsimons has arrived at Notts, hopefully he's good enough to replace Adam Collin (or at least keep him on his toes). I'm pleased we signed someone in this position, as most will know I don't rate Collin - not like I used to do. Share your thoughts below!

  10. To say I was optimistic about Coventry that is an understatement, however I really enjoyed the travel. I had quick kip on the coach and was awaken by @magpiejue gently nudging me. I didn’t sleep all that well the night before, however the first thing I saw was the Ricoh Arena. From the outside it looks too big to be in League One, let alone the fourth tier of English football. That feeling I had at Stevenage emerged but the atmosphere wasn’t the same, I spoke to virtually everyone I know and some new faces and ‘I’d take a draw today’ was the common reply. Pre-match for me wasn’t like a typical League Two game, for me it reminded me of playing at an higher level and I got that hopeful feeling that we could do something special – Notts honestly deserves a good season merely for all the loyal supporters who travel to virtually every game and devote their wholeheartly support to the club. 11. Elliot Hewitt is the first of the Notts players to extend their stay into the upcoming season after signing a new two-year-deal. Elliot has enjoyed spells in the right back position but has also moved further up the field. How do you feel about him extending his stay? Is the contract length long enough? Let us know your thoughts.
  12. Despite Notts having started brightly, Coventry City took control of the game and ended the game claiming all three points in a comprehensive 3-0 win. Adam Collin saved well at his near post early to deny Michael Doyle, but Notts found more time on the ball and enjoyed a lengthy spell as Terry Hawkride came close him self after hitting the post just seven minutes later. On the 28th minute mark Shaun Brisley's flicked header went wide of the goal. Moments later, the Sky Blues found enough space in the Notts defence for Jodi Jones to slot his shot into the bottom corner. In the second half Coventry continued to dominate, with only inspiration coming from Magpies substitute Jorge Grant. However, it wasn't enough as Jodi Jones wrapped up the win with two goals as Notts were caught cheaply on the counter attack in the final 10 minutes. Here are the match highlights from the official Notts site - see for yourselves how the Magpies got on. 13. So, tonight Notts play their first real opposition in a friendly against Nottingham Forest at Meadow Lane. The club has announced that there will be minute's applause before the game in honour of our former Chairman Derek Pavis. Despite only being a friendly, I welcome this additional news because I think despite the score being irrelevant - it will add a little more appreciation to the friendly. What do you think the score will be? General thoughts? Discuss below folks...

  15. On the back of @TheFostarr94's article. I thought I would open a constructive discussion based on Haydn Hollis and what fans think of him, along with if he deserves a new contract. He's a player I don't think people realise how hard he works, as his dedication does deserve praise but he does seem easily picked out for making mistakes. The goal we conceded against Crewe wasn't solely his fault, although he shouldn't run or play above his ability - certainly he should avoid using his weaker foot. Yet in recent weeks people praised him, only to revert to singling him out. Thoughts?
  16. Since its launch two weeks ago, the Pride of Nottingham Donation Drive has received a tremendous response so far, and continues to gather pace as the new season edges ever closer. Now into our fifth campaign covering Notts County, PON has sought to provide fans with news, features, trivia, media and match updates, with the premise of being entertaining, informative, honest and unbiased. Since our creation in 2013, we have been there through the rough and the smooth, and as staunch Notts fans ourselves, we have shared the joy, the pain, the sadness, the anger, the confusion, the euphoria and every other single emotion which is part and parcel of supporting our beloved club. And year on year, PON has grown to the point that it can legitimately lay claim to be the number one Notts fansite on the internet, and this could not have been done without each and every one of you who interact and engage with us on the site, on social media and at the games. Now heading into the 2017/18 season, there is much cause for optimism at Meadow Lane, with the club under new ownership, a manager at the helm who is truly committed to the cause, and the atmosphere much more jovial among the fanbase. There is to be no resting on laurels, however, for the club and for ourselves. We want to provide even more Notts content, even more regularly, and even better quality, and for us to break through the glass ceiling and go to the next level, the PON Donation Drive is to help us to do this. The number of Notts fans that have donated to the cause is now in double figures, and for that we thank each and every one of you from the bottom of our hearts. Some fans have even given us some incredibly kind words, which in turn makes us lost for words - being part of PON is already so satisfactory as it is, but to know that fans genuinely enjoy our work and tell us so, it makes it even more worthwhile. Gordon Robertson, a fan who has very kindly donated, said this about PON: " I've been following for about 2 years. I found out about it on Facebook. I think it's really good because it's more fan orientated and i think it's an asset to the club. I donated because i believe in what you're doing and it should be supported and encouraged by both the fans and the club. Keep up the good work!" Meanwhile, Ben Dooley said: "PON is a good site ran for the fans by the fans, there is a good community feel about it where you can have a laugh without any "bollocks". None of us are millionaires, so donating whatever I could felt like a no-brainer." We are so thankful to each and every one of you who follows and engages with PON, and as always, we are eager to keep our content completely free for everyone to enjoy. If you fancy chipping in for the cause, then you would be helping our cause even more! Thank you once again for your support, and here's to a good 2017/18 season! COME ON YOU PIES!! 17. Hey all, As we approach the 2017/18 season, we are preparing to provide the most comprehensive and high quality coverage possible for Notts. We want to take Pride of Nottingham to the next level, and as always, we want to keep our content free for all fans to enjoy as they please. Ahead of the new campaign, we have launched the Pride of Nottingham Donation Drive, to help us with increasing costs of upkeep and to enable us to deliver even more regular and more high-quality content. We are delighted with the initial response so far, but if you are in a position where you enjoy what we have been doing and feel like helping us out with a donation - if you want, of course - you'll enable us to reach our goals much quicker. To donate, just click on this link - it can be done via PayPal. Thank you for your support guys. JJ & Chris
