  3. With Scott Loach out on loan at York City, Notts County have turned to Joe Searson as their second-choice goalkeeper. The 18-year-old has been on the bench over the last few games, and he has received praise from first-choice custodian Adam Collin. Collin told the Nottingham Post: "Joe has done really well. Since the manager came in and Norm (Mark Crossley) became goalkeeping coach, they have wanted three goalkeepers in training every day. "Joe has been involved with myself and Scott Loach on a full-time basis. He is progressing really well, he's a good young pro and I am sure he has got a bright future ahead of him." Anybody seen Searson in training or in youth games? What is he like? Do you reckon the opportunity of first-team football is warranted at this stage, or should he be given more time to develop in the academy?
  4. Kevin Nolan says Scott Loach's loan move to York City will enable him to keep tabs of the goalkeeper in first-team action and make a decision on him at the end of the season. The 28-year-old former England Under-21 international, who has made just seven appearances for the Magpies this season, sealed the switch to Bootham Crescent on Wednesday. Nolan admits that Loach, whose deal at Meadow Lane is up at the end of the season, was desperate to play first-team football, but has been "first class" in biding his time as Adam Collin's deputy. "Loachie was desperate to play and be number one somewhere so he could get some games under his belt," Nolan told the Nottingham Post. "After York rang us yesterday (Wednesday) we just thought it would be an opportunity for him to go and do that. "We can have a look at Joe Searson as well and then we can make a decision on them come the end of the season. "I must admit Loachie has been first class since I came in. There's not been one whimper. All he's wanted to do is play games. "But with Adam's form he's found that difficult. When York came along, I just thought it would be best for us and for him to go and play. "It gives me a chance of getting a few tapes of him playing week in, week out, and then we can make a decision on him." 5. The Alan Hardy and Kevin Nolan renaissance continues as Notts County put in a gutsy performance at Leyton Orient and, despite being pegged back, persevered and claimed a 3-2 win at Brisbane Road to gain further ground from the League Two relegation zone. Orient were already without Liam Kelly, who was banned for six games after pushing a Plymouth Argyle ballboy earlier in the week, and suffered a further setback when defender Tom Parkes was stretchered off with only eight minutes on the clock. The Magpies broke the deadlock in the 35th minute when Teddy Mezague failed to deal with a long goal kick from Adam Collin and Jorge Grant poked the ball past Sam Sargeant. Notts then went 2-0 up within three minutes of the beginning of the second half after Jon Stead beat Sargeant in the box and his touch went in off the bar. The O's, however, reduced the deficit within a minute when McCallum headed home after Nigel Atangana's header had struck the crossbar. Danny Webb's charges were back then on level terms when Mezague unleashed a powerful volley into the net from outside the penalty area with 10 minutes left. It was Notts who had the final word when, with six minutes left in the game, Marc Bola sent in a cross from the left and Stead drove the ball into the net to seal all three points. 6. Notts County goalkeeper Adam Collin has admitted that the season has been tough so far, but believes that the Magpies are "steadying the ship" following Kevin Nolan's arrival. The 32-year-old joined Notts in the summer following a career which began at Newcastle United and saw him turn out for the likes of Rotherham United, Carlisle United and non-league Workington AFC. He told the Eastwood & Kimberley Advertiser: “The move to Notts County came about as soon as John Sheridan and Mark Crossley were appointed as the new management team. “I was out of contract after a successful three years at Rotherham United and they got in touch asking if I would like to come in as No.1 goalkeeper. “It’s been a very tough season so far. We started well and then all of a sudden the wheels fell off and we lost 10 games in a row. “We were conceding too many goals and not scoring enough and now, with a change of manager, we look to be steadying the ship and getting back to looking a solid team. “The new manager has come in and looked to make us harder to beat and more solid. We have good players we just needed a settled shape to the team and to be more organised.” Collin also spoke about playing in the derby against Mansfield and keeping a clean sheet, as well as feeling pride at having youngsters from his academy in attendance. He added: “The derby was a great game to play in. The atmosphere was fantastic and to get a clean sheet and to make a good save off the deflected shot was the highlight for me, plus to have quite a few of my young goalies from the academy there watching was a big bonus.” The AC1 Goalkeeping Academy is based in Mansfield and currently has around 30 youngsters learning the ropes - for more information click here.
