How can Notts make the most of their academy system? The ideal situation for Notts would be to produce our talent that could further allow the club to spend its budget more wisely in the transfer periods, however in recent weeks we have seen promising talent released and although it's quite normal that only a few make the grade in terms of professional contracts. I do feel we could be fast-tracking youngsters, gaining experience for them much quicker and supporting their development stages. Don't get me wrong, it will take quite a few seasons to catch with other clubs but our academy is ran very well. I am interested to see opinions on how fans feel we could further improve the academy, what we can do in order ensure we produce quality and provide them the support they need to be vital key members of the Notts County squad.
With Scott Loach out on loan at York City, Notts County have turned to Joe Searson as their second-choice goalkeeper. The 18-year-old has been on the bench over the last few games, and he has received praise from first-choice custodian Adam Collin. Collin told the Nottingham Post: "Joe has done really well. Since the manager came in and Norm (Mark Crossley) became goalkeeping coach, they have wanted three goalkeepers in training every day. "Joe has been involved with myself and Scott Loach on a full-time basis. He is progressing really well, he's a good young pro and I am sure he has got a bright future ahead of him." Anybody seen Searson in training or in youth games? What is he like? Do you reckon the opportunity of first-team football is warranted at this stage, or should he be given more time to develop in the academy?
