Noor Husin has claimed that Notts County's playoff heartache last season will prove a superb incentive for the Magpies to get the promotion job done this time round. Notts were in and around the League Two's top three for much of the 2017-18 campaign but stuttered in the final few months to finish in the playoffs, which they subsequently lost to eventual winners Coventry City. “Last season will only make us stronger and the boys know what it takes now,” Husin told the Nottingham Post. “Hopefully we can go a step further and get that promotion everybody is after. “Everyone was bitterly disappointed with how last season ended after doing so well. But it’s only going to spur us on to go up and I am sure that will give us that extra bit of motivation we need.” Husin has also spoken of his international call-up with Afghanistan, expressing pride at being convoked by his nation, but he says he will put club before country this month. “I have been called up by Afghanistan, but they have a friendly in a couple of weeks’ time [against Palestine on August 19] which I am not going to,” he said. “But when there is an international break I think I will be going. “I was called up a couple of years ago, but I put it on hold at the time. I am delighted to be called up and my family are proud. I am really looking forward to it. The games are going to be in Qatar, China and places like that. "They keep track of me and I speak to the manager who has just been appointed. He used to coach in the Dutch league. He’s been watching my games and they keep an eye on me to see how I am getting on." Notts County right-back Matt Tootle has been named the Supporters' Player of the Season for 2017/18. The 27-year-old has enjoyed a superb season in the black and white stripes thanks to his displays which combined dynamism with consistency. Tootle is also a fan favourite thanks to his eccentric, loveable personality, as shown by his quirky "slug" goal celebration which he has used several times this season after chipping in with a few strikes. Off the pitch, Tootle has also raised awareness of mental health issues, having faced and overcome his own battles, which has inspired and helped out many people within the football sphere who could relate. Notts County's awards ceremony took place on Sunday evening at Meadow Lane, with upwards of 170 guests in attendance. Noor Husin has stated that Kevin Nolan was instrumental in his decision to join Notts County and feels he can progress as a player under the former Premier League stalwart. The 21-year-old was on the books of Crystal Palace but opportunities were few and far between for him at Selhurst Park, especially once Sam Allardyce was named as their new manager. Husin caught Nolan's eye when he scored against them whilst on loan at Accrington Stanley and, when Palace made him available for transfer in January, the Magpies duly snapped him up. "It wasn't really a tough decision to leave Palace," Husin told Sky Sports. "Kevin gave me a bit of banter about scoring against us, but he is one of the reasons I came here. He has played at the top level and my aim is to get there. I thought I could progress under him and take my game forward. "He has definitely helped me so far. I am playing regularly and he can see the game through my eyes because of the position he played. I am happy taking tips off him and understanding different things I can improve on. "Notts County is a massive club in League Two as well. I just thought it was the right time to go down a few levels and build my way back up." Notts County midfielder Noor Husin has picked up the February award for League Two Goal of the Month. The goal in question was the equaliser in County's 4-1 win over Crewe Alexandra on February 3. It saw the 21-year-old pick up the ball outside the box after a free kick had been poorly headed clear, before rifling home a superb long-range effort into the top-right corner. Husin, who beat Swindon Town's Matt Taylor and Cheltenham Town's Joe Morrell to the gong, was presented with the award at his club's training ground. "It's a good individual prize to win," he said. "I was up against some good goals so I'm delighted to win it. "I thought I would just try and hit it and keep it on target. Luckily it flew in the top corner!" The winners of the Sky EFL Goals of the Month are chosen by a fan poll on the Sky Sports website, with Pride of Nottingham sharing the link on its forum and on its social media pages, urging fans to vote. The shortlist for the poll is decided by a judging panel following suggestions from supporters via Twitter. Kevin Nolan has declared himself pleased with Notts County's business in the January transfer window. The Magpies bolstered their ranks with the acquisitions of Matty Virtue, Noor Husin, Ben Hall and Mason Bennett, while Liam Noble could finally be registered after joining late last year. In adding a centre-back and a forward, two areas which were in need of strengthening have now been duly reinforced, while Ryan Yates's untimely recall is now no longer a worry with three new midfielders able to turn out for Notts. "I'm delighted with the business we have done. A lot of it was done early and those lads have had a couple of weeks to settle in," Nolan told the official Notts site. "I feel we have come out of the window with a stronger squad because we have brought in a lot of youth to blend with the OAP squad, as people keep calling us! "To get the two lads we wanted on the final day, which went right to the wire, was great. We have different types of players in each position, which is going to give me a selection headache." Speaking about deadline day signing Hall, Nolan said: "We spoke to a lot of people who have worked with Ben and we're delighted to get him. He has had good experience in Scotland with Motherwell and he is a confident lad. We want him to push Duffy and Brisley to new heights." Bennett, meanwhile, was formally announced half an hour after the window closed, and the gaffer added: "Mason has turned down good opportunities to go elsewhere because we are the club he wanted to move forward with. I'm delighted he has chosen us and I hope we can progress his career. "You only have to look at him to see he's an athlete but we're not putting any extra pressure on him, we need to let him get on with his football and that is the most important thing. "He has got every attribute to be a top player with the way he glides past people and his running in behind and we have to try and nurture that and get it out of him. For the second year in a row, Notts County have been busy in the final days of the transfer window. Last year, the Magpies exited the transfer embargo with just a few days left to go and were able to bring in several players, many of whom were loanees (including Jorge Grant - how did that one work out again?) plus Mark Yeates joining permanently. This time round, the whole Ryan Yates debacle has largely been put behind us with the acquisition of Noor Husin, who was superb against Swansea City and has been tipped by Alan Hardy to improve as he gets more accustomed to the league to the point that Yates' absence will no longer be felt. Matty Virtue has also been brought in on loan from Liverpool and although he may need a little more acclimatising to the rigours of first-team football, he is also a very highly rated player - you'd need to be to captain the Under-23s team. Oh, and of course Liam Noble, although signed last year, was registered in January upon the opening of the transfer window. Seems like an age away now following all that happened since. This month the wear and tear from the overload of fixtures has shown in the defence with Matt Tootle, Richard Duffy and Shaun Brisley missing the odd game, so a reinforcement at the back was a necessity. Hardy promised and he delivered, with Ben Hall joining from Brighton & Hove Albion on loan. Another captain of his club's Under-23s team, Hall got a fair bit of first-team action - 18 games, according to Transfermarkt - at previous club Motherwell but hasn't been used by Chris Hughton as of yet, so like Virtue, he may need a little acclimatising to senior football. And then came the long, nervous wait for a forward to bolster the ageing and war-weary attacking ranks, which ticked past 11pm and left many fans increasingly nervous. But once again, the signing was made, as Mason Bennett arrived for a temporary stay at Meadow Lane until the end of the season. Bennett is very highly rated by the Rams fanbase, many fans saying he's a superb player that has just been unlucky with injuries. But the fact he's featured this season in the Championship, the EFL Cup and even the FA Cup, against Manchester United, means he is clearly highly rated by Gary Rowett. On the whole I am satisfied with the month's transfer dealings. Let's face it, we were never going to sign a key player from another lower-league team with the season still in full swing, but the players that have been brought in are all young up-and-coming prospects who will learn from County's elder statesmen and in turn give them a little respite from time to time - after all, we're likely to clock up more than 50 games this season in all competitions. The FA Cup run has been superb but the bread and butter of the league has been disappointing in January, so fingers crossed the signings will not only slot in seamlessly and give the team a bit more quality, but also ensuring that the older players in the team can be used more sparingly and as a result will show more of their own quality when they do play. Kevin Nolan has tipped Noor Husin for success in Notts County colours after revealing that the midfielder's omission against Lincoln City was due to lack of match fitness. Notts County have announced the permanent signing of Crystal Palace midfielder Noor Husin on a one-and-a-half-year deal. The 20-year-old came through the Reading academy, going on to make his senior football bow during a loan spell at Hemel Hempstead Town. Husin, who was born in Afghanistan, then moved to Selhurst Park from the Madejski in August 2016. Last season he spent time on loan in League Two, scoring once in 11 appearances for Accrington Stanley - incidentally against Notts. "I've come from a Premier League club but this has all the attributes to hopefully get there one day," Husin told the official Magpies site. "I'm delighted to be able to help the club try to achieve its ambitions. It's a massive club with good support so everything about it excites me. Husin will be in contention for Saturday's meeting with Lincoln City and he added: "I was made aware of the game and how big it is.
