<p><img src="https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/uploads/monthly_2018_10/0_AK8I6317JPG.jpg.380b84e24932269d193d3bcd0efc463a.jpg" /></p>
<p>
	The Notts County revival is well and truly on. After a shocking start to the season where the Magpies looked unfit for purpose in League Two, Harry Kewell's last four games have now yielded eight points in the shape of two wins and two draws.
</p>

<p>
	Following the 2-1 win over Crewe Alexandra at the weekend, Notts followed it up with an even more impressive 3-1 win over Kewell's former employers Crawley Town, a feat made more remarkable by the fact they finished the game with 10 men.
</p>

<p>
	After just nine minutes played at Meadow Lane, the hosts took the lead with their first serious attack, as Lewis Alessandra beat keeper Glenn Morris to Jon Stead's pass and laid the ball off to Kane Hemmings, who duly slotted home into an empty net.
</p>

<p>
	The goal arguably came against the run of play and Crawley enjoyed a bright spell after the restart, but they were once again caught out by Notts as Stead latched on to Elliott Hewitt's header over the top to drive a shot into the bottom corner and double their lead just after the half-hour mark.
</p>

<p>
	Crawley came close to halving the deficit late on in the first half as Jack Payne saw a long-range shot cannon off the woodwork with stopper Ross Fitzsimons rooted to the spot, but come the half-time whistle County continued to boast a healthy advantage.
</p>

<p>
	On the hour mark, Jack Payne was lucky not to see red for blatantly pulling back Alessandra on the edge of the box, while five minutes later, Rob Milsom was sent off for a heavy lunge on Joe Maguire that the Crawley loanee could have few complaints about.
</p>

<p>
	Despite the beginnings of some nerves showing, Notts settled them in style as substitute Nathan Thomas curled a 20-yard free-kick over the wall and into the lower reaches of the net for an unassailable three-goal advantage, though Dominic Poleon did grab a consolation in the 90th to deprive the hosts of a clean sheet.

<p>
	It took a while but it's finally come, Notts County's first win of the season, a 2-1 triumph over Crewe Alexandra at Meadow Lane.
</p>

<p>
	Harry Kewell's appointment as Kevin Nolan's successor raised some eyebrows initially but the Australian now has five points from his last three games, with draws against Stevenage and Northampton Town giving Notts a solid platform to build on.
</p>

<p>
	On Saturday, County continued their renaissance as they played overall much better football in their home meeting with Crewe and, even though there were still some defensive issues - as seen by Jamie Turley's mistake for their equaliser - there was still enough to earn victory and a first three-point haul of the campaign.
</p>

<p>
	Notts were bright from the off and only needed five minutes to open the scoring, Rob Milsom getting on the end of a delivery from Kane Hemmings and helped on by Jon Stead to rifle into the back of the net beyond keeper Ben Garratt.
</p>

<p>
	However, the issue of defensive mishaps reared its ugly head again when, on the quarter-hour mark, a cross from Corey Whelan was poorly cleared by Turley, and Jordan Bowery seized on the opportunity to slot the loose ball home.
</p>

<p>
	Both sides looked to find a winner in the second half, with Lewis Alessandra seeing a shot blocked and Elliott Hewitt heading the rebound wide of the target.
</p>

<p>
	However, the winner came courtesy of the hosts when Cedric Evina's inch-perfect cross was met by Hewitt, whose header had too much power for Garratt and yielded the decisive goal of the game.

<p>
	Notts County have moved off the foot of the League Two table and now sit two points from safety following their second successive draw, a 0-0 stalemate at Northampton Town.
</p>

<p>
	The Magpies drew 3-3 against Stevenage last time out and, although they remain chasing a win this season, a second clean sheet of the campaign - following that against Colchester United in August - will come as a much-welcomed improvement.
</p>

<p>
	No day off for Harry Kewell, who hit the big four oh on matchday, as his charges began brightly, Lewis Alessandra cutting in from the left and firing over just three minutes in.
</p>

<p>
	Northampton countered with John-Joe O'Toole let rip from 30 yards, but Ross Fitzsimons would comfortably claim the effort.
</p>

<p>
	Despite a lively start, things went a little dull in the ensuing minutes, with nothing of note happening until Cobblers captain Ash Taylor was shown a yellow card in the 21st minute for a foul on Kane Hemmings.
</p>

<p>
	The summer signing came close to opening the scoring before the break, heading over from Enzio Boldewijn's cross, before Jon Stead saw his own header land on the roof of the net.
</p>

<p>
	Northants keeper David Cornell beat away Alessandra’s deflected shot moments after the restart before a period of Cobblers pressure ended with David Buchanan blasting wide.
</p>

<p>
	Boldewijn then came close as his one-two on the edge of the hosts' box was followed by a shot straight at Cornell, while Hemmings saw a dangerous effort tipped onto the crossbar with 20 minutes to go.
</p>

<p>
	Northampton survived a goalmouth scramble from the ensuing corner before they had their own chances to break the deadlock, O’Toole and Barnett both heading off target in quick succession.
</p>

<p>
	Although the home side finished brightly, with Leon Barnett and Kevin van Veen coming close and Matt Tootle almost scoring an own goal, County held out for a valuable point and a psychologically boosting shutout.

<p>
	Notts County put in a much improved performance in Harry Kewell's first home league game in charge but defensive issues came back to haunt the Magpies as they were held to a 3-3 draw by Stevenage at Meadow Lane.
</p>

<p>
	Three times Notts went ahead in the game and three times they were pegged back by the visitors, yielding just a second point of the season.
</p>

<p>
	The Magpies took the lead midway through the first half as Ben Nugent brought down Jon Stead in the box for a penalty, which the veteran striker opted to take himself as he sent goalkeeper Paul Farman the wrong way.
</p>

<p>
	Stevenage countered with their first equaliser seven minutes before the break through Ben Kennedy, who turned home Danny Newton's low cross, only to fall behind again on 43 minutes when the livewire Enzio Boldewijn cut in from the left and bent in his third goal of the season from 20 yards.
</p>

<p>
	However, the first half ended all square as Alex Revell leapt above debutant Cedric Evina at the far post to connect with Steve Seddon's cross and loop a header beyond Ross Fitzsimons two minutes later.
</p>

<p>
	Kane Hemmings restored the advantage four minutes after the break with a smart finish from Lewis Alessandra's through ball.
</p>

<p>
	Stead could have effectively wrapped things up for County just before the hour mark as he miscued a volleyed opportunity after a deep cross found him unmarked at the back post.
</p>

<p>
	As proof that more work needs to be done, Notts were pegged back yet again after 73 minutes, Danny Newton connecting with a cross and drilling home a left-footed finish from eight yards.

<p><img src="https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/uploads/monthly_2018_09/0_AK8I0894JPG.jpg.d86a0f397ed62c3390bac43b95ff58aa.jpg" /></p>
<p>
	With the exception of Colchester United, every team that Notts County have played so far in League Two have plundered at least three goals, and today's game against Exeter City saw the largest total shipped by a Magpies side very quickly establishing a reputation for itself as a punching bag in a 5-1 defeat at St James' Park.
</p>

<p>
	No doubts about it, this Notts side is a farce. From a full-back one missed penalty away from a hat-trick to manager Harry Kewell sent to the stands in his first league game for his new club, a team that had already suffered plenty of humiliations this season has plumbed new depths, and the way things are going now, relegation is a certainty unless a coach whose appointment has been met in the same manner as that of Jamie Fullarton can somehow work enough magic to turn this shower into something resembling a professional football team.
</p>

<p>
	In all fairness, County had started well enough in Devon, with Nathan Thomas going close and Kristian Dennis being denied by Christy Pym from range, but as has been the case oh so many times this season, the defence was sliced apart like butter as the Grecians quickly established a two-goal lead, Pierce Sweeney heading home from a corner - another set piece concession - and Thomas caught out in possession to allow Hiram Boateng to set up Jayden Stockley for an easy drive.
</p>

<p>
	There was a sliver of hope with half time on the horizon as Enzio Boldewijn cut inside and curled home a great effort from outside the box, a goal which frankly came out of nowhere but which definitely set up a good springboard for Kewell's boys to mount a second-half comeback.
</p>

<p>
	Did this happen? Did it [redacted].
</p>

<p>
	Christian Oxlade-Chamberlain handled the ball in the box while challenging for it, an act so foolish that his own teammates wondered what he was doing, and Sweeney fired an effort into the bottom right-hand corner, despite Ross Fitzsimons diving the right way.
</p>

<p>
	Not long after, Boldewijn was found guilty of the same mistake and Sweeney, a right-back, was then in with a chance of securing a hat-trick, but to save County's already-plentiful blushes, he hammered wide.
</p>

<p>
	Not that Notts have had any trouble embarrassing themselves this season, not even any need for other teams to do it. The defence practically gave Nicky Law free rein to make his way into the final third before the Exeter man crossed for Stockley to slam past Fitzsimons from six yards out.
</p>

<p>
	Just for good measure, Kewell's protestations led to him being dismissed from the dugout and sent to the stands, with BBC Nottingham commentator and Maggies legend Mark Stallard conceding that the Australian would have been better off sitting somewhere facing away from the pitch.
</p>

<p>
	With injury time coming up, Exeter added a fifth just to really add the mud-encrusted boot to the face of the beaten Magpies, Aaron Martin heading another easy goal from close range to leave Notts foot of the table on one measly point.

<p>
	Notts County have lost their fourth League Two match on the trot as Lincoln City ran out 3-1 winners in Saturday's match at Sincil Bank.
</p>

<p>
	The Magpies, if we're not being too harsh, could do little about the opening goal, a superb effort from Imps captain Lee Frecklington.
</p>

<p>
	Andy Kellett had headed clear but the ball fell to Frecklington, who sidefooted a ferocious volley from about 25 yards out which gave Ross Fitzsimons no chance.
</p>

<p>
	And then Notts did manage to pull level as Kellett struck a low free kick which evaded everyone and nestled into the back of the home side's net.
</p>

<p>
	Things then began going wrong when skipper Richard Duffy suffered a knee injury and was replaced by Terry Hawkridge, with Matt Tootle dropping into the back three.
</p>

<p>
	And then Kevin Nolan's side were behind once again when Bruno Andrade restored Lincoln’s lead with a tidy volley before the break.
</p>

<p>
	Things continued to go from bad to worse and eventually Notts were killed off when Michael O'Connor worked the ball wide to Andrade, whose cross was turned home by Anderson.
</p>

<p>
	The result leaves Notts rock bottom of the table and alarm bells are now ringing loudly at Meadow Lane.

<p>
	Notts County remain winless this season and have dropped to the bottom of the League Two table following Tuesday's 3-2 loss at Newport County.
</p>

<p>
	The Magpies were under the cosh in the beginning but took the lead after 12 minutes when Enzio Boldewijn got past Dan Butler and crossed into the area for Kane Hemmings to fire into the net.
</p>

<p>
	However, as with Yeovil Town, Notts' leaky defence cost them as Fraser Franks was left unmarked to head home from a corner to level the scores.
</p>

<p>
	And then, Richard Duffy played an atrocious pass which Padraig Amond picked up and played into the path of Mark Harris, who scored to turn the game instantly around for the Welsh side.
</p>

<p>
	Credit to Ross Fitzsimons, he made a number of saves to keep us in the game, and it looked as though we'd leave Rodney Parade with a point when Boldewijn set up Kristian Dennis to fire beyond Joe Day.
</p>

<p>
	But the sucker punch came with only seconds remaining as yet another defensive horror move saw Amond nod the ball back across goal from a cross for Jamille Matt to break County hearts.

<p>
	Meadow Lane turned into a circus on Friday night as Notts County traded their football boots for clown shoes.
</p>

<p>
	Hell, had they actually played in those, it probably wouldn't have made a difference to the scoreline as a modest Yeovil Town side came to town and left with a 4-0 win.
</p>

<p>
	Frankly it's a miracle you even bothered to click on this match report at all so I won't waste your time, I'll keep it brief.
</p>

<p>
	Alex Fisher scored twice in the space of two minutes - 34 and 36 - as the Notts defence was sliced open like butter.
</p>

<p>
	The same man then latched onto a long ball and was given the freedom of the city of Nottingham to bear down on goal and complete his hat-trick.
</p>

<p>
	Then just to rub salt into the wounds, Kane Hemmings slammed what can only be deemed a "pity penalty" onto the woodwork and former Notts man Yoann Arquin added a fourth.
</p>

<p>
	This has already taken me five minutes to write - not to mention your one or two minutes reading through this - and frankly I think it's too much, so I'll leave it at that.
</p>

<p>
	Try to enjoy your weekend, forget about the football and let's leave it to Kevin Nolan to actually do his job and rally his troops after this, yeah?

<p>
	Notts County have bowed out of the 2018-19 EFL Cup with their heads held high after taking Championship high-flyers Middlesbrough to a penalty shootout at the Riverside Stadium.
</p>

<p>
	The Magpies took the lead in the 20th minute as Terry Hawkridge's quick free kick released Jon Stead into the area, and the former Sunderland man squared for young debutant Tom Crawford to sweep home.
</p>

<p>
	County's lead lasted less than 10 minutes, however, as Ashley Fletcher steered in Grant Leadbitter's corner at the back post via a flick on from Daniel Ayala in the 27th minute.
</p>

<p>
	Just six minutes later, Notts surged ahead again when Stead turned on the right-hand edge of the Boro box and hit a low shot that beat Boro goalkeeper Lonergan at his near post.
</p>

<p>
	Boro then claimed a second equaliser a minute before half time, with Luxembourg international Enes Mahmutovic heading home from close range after Marvin Johnson stood up an inviting cross from the left.
</p>

<p>
	An exciting game then yielded a third Notts goal as Noor Husin drilled a low shot against the post, with Stead on hand to sweep home the rebound.
</p>

<p>
	Eventually the home side's pressure turned into yet another equaliser, as Fletcher added to his first after good work from Stephen Walker with 16 minutes to play.
</p>

<p>
	Neither side could be separated come the full-time whistle, so penalties would be needed to separate the two teams.
</p>

<p>
	Boro prevailed 4-3, with County's Stead and Jones seeing their penalties saved by Lonergan, while Boro converted all of theirs.

<p>
	Notts County began the 2018-19 season with a point in a tricky and ultimately underwhelming 0-0 draw with Colchester United at Meadow Lane.
</p>

<p>
	Although the U's appeared the brighter of the two sides at the off, the Magpies almost took a fourth-minute lead through debutant Enzio Boldewijn.
</p>

<p>
	The Dutchman was able to let rip with a low shot from a good position but visiting goalkeeper Dillon Barnes was able to palm the effort behind for a corner.
</p>

<p>
	But Colchester then threatened midway through the first half through Frank Nouble, whose header from Ryan Jackson's cross flashed inches wide of County's far post.
</p>

<p>
	The hosts received a let off in the second half when keeper Ross Fitzsimons appeared to handle the ball outside of his area after Jackson had sent Nouble through on goal.
</p>

<p>
	Nathan Thomas then came close with a superb chance when he controlled on the edge of the area before trying his luck with a chipped effort, only for Barnes to backtrack and tip the ball over for a corner.
</p>

<p>
	Colchester came close to claiming victory with 15 minutes remaining when Aaron Collins teed up Tom Eastman, who struck the bar with a curled effort from the edge of the box, but ultimately the spoils were shared.

<p>
	Notts County's 2017-18 season ended on a sour note as Coventry City put in an assured display, helped in no small part by several dubious refereeing decisions, to run out 4-1 winners at Meadow Lane.
</p>

<p>
	The first leg of their League Two playoff semi-final ended 1-1 as a contentious penalty saw the Sky Blues edge level on the night and in the tie, but the hope was that home advantage in the return leg could prove beneficial for the Magpies.
</p>

<p>
	However, the first half at the San Sirrel was little short of atrocious for Notts, who fell behind after just six minutes when a corner was not properly dealt with and Maxime Biamou was able to unleash an overhead kick and find the back of the net.
</p>

<p>
	The hosts were truly pedestrian in the opening 45 minutes, mostly playing hoofball and proving unable to stop Coventry from playing through them, indeed going on to concede a second goal on 37 minutes when Marc McNulty combined with Liam Kelly to lash home from eight yards out.
</p>

<p>
	Out of nowhere, however, Notts claimed a lifeline in the game when, shortly before half time, a long throw was flicked into the box by Richard Duffy and Jorge Grant thundered home at the back post, halving the deficit and setting up a high-stakes second half.
</p>

<p>
	Shaun Brisley and McNulty were involved in some handbags just before the whistle just to make things a little tastier and, much to the home fans' delight, Notts were right out of the starting blocks in the second half.
</p>

<p>
	On 65 minutes, Jon Stead forced Lee Burge into a superb save from just inside the area, and moments later they had the ball in the back of the net, but Jonathan Forte's effort was unjustly - here we are using this word again - ruled out for offside.
</p>

<p>
	To make matters worse, Coventry's killer third goal, which caused County's heads to drop, actually was offside, Biamou finding time in the area to turn and fire a low shot into the bottom corner.
</p>

<p>
	The Sky Blues eventually added a fourth, Tom Bayliss running into space and rifling home a long-range effort five minutes from time, to trigger an exodus in the stands, the dreams of Wembley torn asunder.

<p>
	Notts County found themselves the victims of a robbery in Coventry this evening as referee Gavin Ward awarded the most ridiculous penalty decision you will see in a long time to help Coventry City secure a late 1-1 draw in Saturday night's League Two semi-final playoff first leg at the Ricoh Arena.
</p>

<p>
	The Sky Blues began brightly on a rain-sodden pitch in the West Midlands, with Marc McNulty being played clean through by Jordan Shipley and firing against the foot of the Notts post before Max Biamou hit the rebound which was blocked by a back-tracking defender.
</p>

<p>
	Notts, however, worked up the gears and threatened through the likes of Jonathan Forte, who headed over from Jorge Grant's corner, Dan Jones lashing the ball across the face of goal, and Forte then being denied by a Lee Burge save.
</p>

<p>
	Coventry spurned another good chance to take the lead before the break when Tom Bayliss snuck in behind Elliott Hewitt only to drag his effort wide of the post, and it would be a miss that they would rue as the Magpies went on to open the scoring shortly after the restart.
</p>

<p>
	The warning signs had been there as Chris "Notts are a long ball team" Stokes cleared a Hewitt header off the line, and not long after, Jones rode a Jack Grimmer challenge before sending a low ball towards goal, which Forte deftly flicked into the back of the net to send the travelling contingent into delirium.
</p>

<p>
	However, Notts ended up getting screwed over when, just a few minutes from time, Tom Bayliss theatrically went down under a Matt Tootle challenge, prompting Ward to somehow award a penalty which McNulty rifled the opposite way of Collin to literally steal a goal back and leave the tie on a knife edge.

<p>
	Notts County have secured fifth place in League Two and will face Coventry City in the playoffs following their goalless draw with Luton Town at Meadow Lane.
</p>

<p>
	Backed by more than 4,000 fans, the promoted Hatters looked lively early on with Olly Lee forcing Magpies goalkeeper Adam Collin into action with a powerful 20-yard drive.
</p>

<p>
	Jack Stacey then nearly rounded off a fine move when he drilled a low shot across the face of goal following a deft delivery from Elliott Lee.
</p>

<p>
	Michael O'Connor, captaining the Magpies from the off for the first time in over a year, found himself on the edge of the box but his floated cross to the far post drifted harmlessly wide.
</p>

<p>
	Jon Stead, meanwhile, had a shot deflected behind for a corner while Luton goalkeeper James Shea also saved from Jorge Grant.
</p>

<p>
	The Magpies' hopes of a victory then appeared to be boosted early in the second half when Danny Hylton picked up a second yellow card for a foul on Shaun Brisley.
</p>

<p>
	However, Nathan Jones's charges continued to push on, Stacey again coming close following a fine counter attack by the visitors.
</p>

<p>
	Late on, only a fantastic last-ditch tackle from Matt Tootle denied Pelly Ruddock-Mpanzu from making the breakthrough at the expense of a corner.
</p>

<p>
	Notts were handed the chance to win the game during four minutes of added time when Lewis Alessandra was brought down just outside the box by Alan Sheehan.
</p>

<p>
	However, Jorge Grant could only send the ball over the bar as the regular reason ended for Notts, while Luton would be waving goodbye to League Two come the final whistle.

<p>
	Notts County have thrown away the chance of making the top three in League Two with one game to spare after falling to a 2-1 defeat at Grimsby Town on Saturday afternoon.
</p>

<p>
	With third-placed Wycombe Wanderers winning at Chesterfield, it meant that Chairboys won automatic promotion to League One alongside champions Accrington Stanley and second-placed Luton Town.
</p>

<p>
	The result was also good news for Grimsby, who now sit five points clear of the bottom two with one game left, thus guaranteeing their place in the Football League next season.
</p>

<p>
	Notts were dour in the opening 45 minutes, with the woodwork coming to their rescue as Harry Clifton's curling effort from the edge of the box came back off the post.
</p>

<p>
	The visitors' first real chance came on 19 minutes when a cross from the left was met by Jonathan Forte but he steered his header just wide of the near post.
</p>

<p>
	Grimsby, however, continued to press and drew first blood just before the half-hour mark when Notts failed to clear and Nathan Clarke pounced on the loose ball in the penalty area to roll the ball home.
</p>

<p>
	Kevin Nolan’s men almost conjured up an immediate response, with Matty Virtue appealing for a penalty when he appeared to have been tripped in the area but play continued, which saw Lewis Alessandra strike but could only fire over.
</p>

<p>
	Though Notts did press on, they came close to conceding a second on the stroke of half time when Martyn Woolford charged onto Luke Summerfield's cross and, after seeing his initial effort blocked, failed to force the follow-up over the line as Adam Coliln gathered.
</p>

<p>
	The Magpies showed a marked improvement in the second half and came close on a number of occasions, with Richard Duffy thumping a header just wide of the post.
</p>

<p>
	James McKeown then did well to keep his side ahead when he pulled off a one-handed save on the goalline after the Grimsby defence failed to cope with a Lewis Alessandra cross.
</p>

<p>
	Notts continued to push on and succeeded in grabbing a late equaliser when Michael O’Connor’s header hit the bar, allowing Dan Jones to stab home from close range, but at the other end,
</p>

<p>
	But as they went in search of the winner, Jamille Matt popped up to squeeze the ball home from a corner deep into injury time to crush County's automatic promotion hopes.

<p>
	Notts County have secured a spot in the League Two playoffs thanks to Saturday's resounding 4-1 win over Yeovil Town at Meadow Lane.
</p>

<p>
	In addition, victory took the Magpies to within two points of third-placed Wycombe Wanderers - who lost 3-0 at Accrington Stanley - with two games left to play.
</p>

<p>
	Both sides traded blows throughout the first half, Jonathan Forte riflling a shot past the post before hitting the bar with an audacious lob but Yeovil also having numerous opportunities to open the scoring.
</p>

<p>
	However, it was Notts that took the lead on the stroke of half time as Dan Jones let rip with an audacious long-range effort which took a deflection and wrongfooted Yeovil keeper John Maddison en route to goal.
</p>

<p>
	After the restart, the hosts doubled their advantage in comical fashion, Liam Noble's cross in the 54th minute being emphatically thumped into the visitors' net by Glovers defender Tom James from around 20 yards out as he attempted a clearance.
</p>

<p>
	Elliott Hewitt made it three on 69 minutes, cutting in from the left and bearing down on goal before firing low past Maddison.
</p>

<p>
	And four minutes later it was four, Lewis Alessandra latching onto Forte's ball and dribbling past two defenders before netting from close range.
</p>

<p>
	Although Alex Fisher netted a consolation in injury time from a free kick, the result was in no doubt whatsoever and the Black &amp; White Army could celebrate another huge step in the team's promotion bid.

<p>
	Notts County came from a goal down to record a 3-1 win at Colchester United that keeps their League Two playoff hopes alive and kicking.
</p>

<p>
	The Magpies endured a poor first half, falling behind on nine minutes when Drey Wright exchanged passes with Ben Stevenson, slicing through the visitors' defence, before slotting low past Adam Collin from close range.
</p>

<p>
	In the 17th minute, Colchester came close again when Mikael Mandron picked up Ben Stevenson’s smart pass and ran at the visitors’ defence before drilling a low shot straight at Collin.
</p>

<p>
	Kane Vincent-Young, Wright and Mandron all weighed in with efforts against Notts, who had Jonathan Forte's goal ruled out on 25 minutes for a push by Shaun Brisley on Luke Prosser following a corner.
</p>

<p>
	The U's almost doubled their lead just after the break when Tom Eastman divered Mandron's header onto the foot of the post.
</p>

<p>
	Three minutes later, Notts dragged themselves level when Forte squeezed a low shot past Sam Walker after Shaun Brisley had done well to keep the ball alive from Tootle’s cross.
</p>

<p>
	Ameobi then fired the visitors into the lead with 21 minutes remaining, finishing off after Forte and Matty Virtue tested the opposition keeper.
</p>

<p>
	The game was then killed off with 14 minutes remaining when Richard Duffy rose to head home Dan Jones's free kick into the area.

<p>
	Notts County have claimed their first win in six League Two games as fellow playoff chasers Coventry City were beaten 2-1 in Saturday's game at Meadow Lane.
</p>

<p>
	The match began slowly, with little of note happening in the opening 20 minutes, before Notts would muster the first chance of the game as Jorge Grant rifled wide from 12 yards out.
</p>

<p>
	Coventry countered with Rod McDonald blasting over, while Tom Bayliss saw an effort deflected wide and McDonald then sent another shot off target.
</p>

<p>
	Marc McNulty and Max Biamou also had sniffs of goal, while at the other end, Jonathan Forte - <a href="https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/home/news/pride-of-nottingham-to-sponsor-jonathan-forte-home-kit-for-201718-season-r1689/" rel="">proudly sponsored by Pride of Nottingham</a> - failed to test Coventry keeper Lee Burge with a run towards goal and subsequent tame effort.
</p>

<p>
	The restart saw Forte test the opposition stopper once again with a powerfully struck effort, while a flashpoint occurred not long after when a coming together between Liam Noble and Coventry's Michael Doyle prompted handbags from both sets of players.
</p>

<p>
	Notts went on to take the lead on the hour as Grant's corner was met by Forte on the leap and headed into the far corner of the Sky Blues net.
</p>

<p>
	Grant thundered a half-volley against the post moments after the restart byt Coventry managed to restore parity with five minutes on the clock when Jordan Ponticelli backheeled the ball past Adam Collin.
</p>

<p>
	However, the final say would belong to Kevin Nolan and co as Forte converted Shola Ameobi's low cross to secure all three points for the hosts, whose promotion hopes were given a huge boost.

<p>
	Notts County's automatic promotion hopes have been left in tatters after succumbing to a 1-0 loss away at Accrington Stanley.
</p>

<p>
	Magpies boss Kevin Nolan made seven changes to his starting XI given the quick turnaround of games, with the last League Two fixture - the <a href="https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/home/reports/match-report-notts-county-held-to-goalless-draw-by-wycombe-wanderers-r2579/" rel="">home draw with Wycombe Wanderers</a> - taking place three days earlier.
</p>

<p>
	Notts began brightly as Carl Dickinson rifled an effort wide and Liam Walker forced a save from goalkeeper Jonny Maxted in the early exchanges.
</p>

<p>
	Sean McConville had the hosts' first sighting of goal, his effort deflecting just wide for a corner, and from the ensuing set piece they would take the lead.
</p>

<p>
	The visitors twice failed to clear their lines before Seamus Conneely found defender Mark Hughes unmarked at the back post, the ensuing finish buried into the far corner beyond Adam Collin.
</p>

<p>
	Notts continued to boast a lot of possession despite the early setback and, on 21 minutes, Jonathan Forte rattled the bar with a bullet header from close range.
</p>

<p>
	Stanley, however, were the more dangerous side, with Collin keeping out efforts from Kayden Jackson and Billy Kee.
</p>

<p>
	The second half brought about little change at first as a Conneely effort was fumbled by Collin with Jackson unable to convert the follow-up, while Jordan Clark fired wide in a good position.
</p>

<p>
	Matty Virtue should have levelled for County on the hour as Rob Milsom's delivery found him unmarked six yards out but the Liverpool loanee somehow his header wide.
</p>

<p>
	Jackson came close to doubling Stanley's tally but was denied by Collin while Jorge Grant fired wide for County in a decent position with 10 minutes to go.
</p>

<p>
	Nevertheless, John Coleman's side succeeded in extending their winning record come the final whistle, while for Notts, the focus now surely changes to remaining in the playoffs.

<p>
	Notts County have missed out on the chance to gain ground on the top three in League Two as they were held to a goalless draw by Wycombe Wanderers in Good Friday's match at Meadow Lane.
</p>

<p>
	The Chairboys came to NG2 very much intent on leaving with a point and the Magpies could not break their defence down in an uninspiring, rain-sodden encounter.
</p>

<p>
	Terry Hawkridge was first to threaten in the game as his low drive on 15 minutes drew a save from opposition goalkeeper Scott Brown after Lewis Alessandra had played the ball into the winger's path.
</p>

<p>
	Although Wycombe had the better of the play, Shola Ameobi came close to an opener on 21 minutes when he met Hawkridge's cross but, from six yards out, he found the upright.
</p>

<p>
	At the other end, Adebayo Akinfenwa rifled over after the ball fell kindly for him inside the box, before Joe Jacobson was booked for a foul on Hawkridge and Nathan Tyson joined him due to a foul on a breaking Dan Jones.
</p>

<p>
	Shortly after the half-hour mark, Ameobi was brought down by Adam El-Abd in the Wycombe box but the referee played on, prompting Kevin Nolan to rightfully protest the decision, and the Notts boss was soon banished to the stands.
</p>

<p>
	One more chance would come County's way before the break as hesitant Wycombe defending led to Matt Tootle having a free shot at goal, but Brown was able to keep the effort out.
</p>

<p>
	Onto the second half and substitute Michael Harriman fired an effort over, and not long after, Nathan Tyson saw a goal ruled out for offside.
</p>

<p>
	Both sides continued to trade blows, with Hewitt striking the woodwork on the header from Jon Stead's cross, before turning the ball wide on the rebound.
</p>

<p>
	In the latter stages of the game Wycombe appeared happy to simply take the sting out of proceedings and run the clock down as the full-time whistle saw the spoils shared under the grim Nottingham sky.

<p><img src="https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/uploads/monthly_2018_03/Chesterfield-v-Notts-County017JPG.jpg.f668409efaaaf53114af2b2f69b9fd8a.jpg" /></p>
<p>
	Notts County delivered arguably the worst performance of the season as they were convincingly beaten 3-1 by Chesterfield in Sunday's televised League Two game at the Proact Stadium.
</p>

<p>
	The Spireites, in the bottom two of the Football League, were hosting a side supposedly chasing promotion at the other end of the table, but you could easily have thought the positions were reversed.
</p>

<p>
	Although the hosts began brightly, Notts forced a chance when a the ball was sent long into the box by keeper Adam Collin and headed goalwards by Shaun Brisley, though Aaron Ramsdale managed to tip over his bar.
</p>

<p>
	It took Jack Lester's side just 16 minutes to break the deadlock, with Andy Kellett's corner bundled into the back of the net through nudges from Drew Talbot and Sid Nelson, a testament to County's shambolic defending.
</p>

<p>
	At the other end, Elliott Hewitt spurned a great opportunity to nod Notts level, but Jon Stead's cross to his unmarked teammate was inexplicably put wide.
</p>

<p>
	From the restart, Chesterfield headed up the pitch and a litany of errors at the back from Notts saw Zavon Hines claim the ball 12 yards out and rifle home to knock even more stuffing out of the beleaguered visitors.
</p>

<p>
	The Derbyshire strugglers continued to dominate in the second half against a zombified Notts, with Hines volleying into the side netting before Alex Whitmore sent a header narrowly wide.
</p>

<p>
	There was still a little more fight in Notts and they dragged themselves back to within one goal through a free kick from substitute - and ex-Chesterfield man - Dan Jones, which bounced inside the far post from wide on the right.
</p>

<p>
	Nine minutes of stoppage time were then announced, and for a few minutes there was genuine hope that a second wind could see Notts grab an equaliser, or maybe even a Man City - QPR style comeback win.
</p>

<p>
	But no. The Black and White Army were soon put out of their misery when another defensive mishap saw Chesterfield burst through, Kellett brought down by Matt Tootle in the box, a penalty awarded, and Kristian Dennis smashing the ball into the back of the net with Collin diving the wrong way.

<p>
	A penalty awarded after the declared seven minutes of injury time saw Notts County pegged back to a 1-1 draw by Mansfield Town in Saturday's big League Two derby.
</p>

<p>
	A snowy Meadow Lane played host to the two Nottinghamshire rivals, both of whom are thick in the promotion shout.
</p>

<p>
	Notts began brightly in the poor conditions and had their first effort on six minutes as Carl Dickinson played the ball  into the box where Jon Stead sent a header wide of the left post.
</p>

<p>
	Four minutes later, Stags goalkeeper Conrad Logan punched a ball to the edge of his area and Liam Noble was quickest to the loose ball but his attempted lob landed on the roof of the net.
</p>

<p>
	Mansfield took a while to get into gear but soon they were matching the Magpies on the pitch, winning several corners, and Ben Hall did well to clear a cross before Danny Rose could turn it home.
</p>

<p>
	Just after the half-hour mark, the Stags mustered a shot on target when Rose was played the ball on the edge of the Notts box but saw his low effort picked up by Adam Collin.
</p>

<p>
	From the ensuing break, Jorge Grant was able to cross for the unmarked Shola Ameobi just five yards out, but Logan made a save with his legs to send the ball behind for a corner.
</p>

<p>
	The set piece led to County's opener as Ameobi nodded goalwards, Logan parried the header onto the bar and when it came back out again, Terry Hawkridge was on hand to nudge the ball into the back of the net.
</p>

<p>
	Kevin Nolan's side went in at the break a goal up but the visitors improved after the break, with Kane Hemmings, Paul Anderson and Alex MacDonald all weighing in with efforts.
</p>

<p>
	Midway through the second half the handbags came out after Mal Benning had brought Jon Stead down on the flank, with MacDonald and Noble involved in a bit of afters.
</p>

<p>
	Both sides continued to exchange blows but the sucker punch for Notts came 30 seconds past the seventh minute of added time.
</p>

<p>
	MacDonald headed the ball back into the Notts area and it made contact with Lewis Alessandra's arm, prompting the referee to award a penalty which Hemmings slotted low beyond Collin from 12 yards.

<p>
	Notts County have claimed another vital three points in their quest to secure automatic promotion from League Two thanks to a 2-1 win over Forest Green Rovers at the New Lawn.
</p>

<p>
	Former FGR captain Liam Noble, not very well liked at Nailsworth following his defection back to Meadow Lane last year, was true to the match script as he haunted his former club with the opening goal for the visitors.
</p>

<p>
	The Magpies began brightly against a sloppy FGR backline, with Elliott Hewitt coming close early on when he saw his shot deflect across goal and just wide of the post.
</p>

<p>
	Adam Collin then had to be alert to keep out a Reuben Reid effort on 20 minutes but the hosts' risky defensive ploy of passing the ball out from the back ended up costing them on 34 minutes.
</p>

<p>
	Stead dispossed a defender on the edge of FGR's area and the ball made its way via Jorge Grant to Lewis Alessandra, who was brought down by goalkeeper Brad Collins.
</p>

<p>
	As the ball broke free, the referee opted to play the advantage and it proved to be the right call as Noble was on hand to seize the loose ball and tap into the empty net.
</p>

<p>
	The Magpies continued to launch attacks as Alessandra found the side-netting with a shot from a narrow angle and Stead curled a left-footed effort wide, but 1-0 is how it stayed at the break.
</p>

<p>
	Mark Cooper's side was more with it after the restart as Chris Clements forced Collin into tipping a shot around the post before Gavin Gunning nodded over the subsequent corner.
</p>

<p>
	Tahvon Campbell's introduction then helped Forest Green draw level as he was put through in the Magpies area and kept his composure as he fired into the roof of the net from a narrow angle.
</p>

<p>
	Notts set about trying to get ahead again and duly found the winner when Alessandra played in Matt Tootle, who rifled the ball through a crowd of bodies and into the far corner before unleashing the famous "slug" celebration.
</p>

<p>
	Matty Virtue then had a glorious chance to add a third for Notts after being put through by Grant but the Liverpool Under-23 captain's sidefooted effort could not beat Collins in the opposition net.
