<p>
	On this day in 1981, Notts County experienced one of the finest days in their history when they claimed a 2-0 win over Chelsea at an intimidating Stamford Bridge to secure a return to the top flight after an exile of more than half a century.
</p>

<p>
	When the Magpies had last graced the top flight, penicillin had not yet been discovered, the BBC did not yet exist, and women under the age of 30 were not yet allowed to vote. The last Notts top-flight game was in 1926 and few could have expected such a drought from the elite level of English football.
</p>

<p>
	However, Jimmy Sirrel oversaw a revival at Meadow Lane which culminated in the iconic win in West London on 2 May 1981.
</p>

<p>
	The match itself proved a fiery affair and was held up for 15 minutes soon after Notts went two up as Chelsea fans invaded the pitch to demonstrate against their chairman, and there was another protest at the final whistle which resulted in the crossbar at the Shed end being broken.
</p>

<p>
	Nonetheless, the bottom line was that Notts sealed a top-three place in Division Two thanks to the result.
</p>

<p>
	Here is some media from the day - the television report on ITN (as far as I know this is as much as there is in terms of video highlights).

<p>
	Here are the final 10 or so minutes of radio commentary by Brian Tansley and Terry Bowles on Radio Trent (credit to KorkInNotts for the video).

<p>
	Notts County threw away the chance of making the top three in League Two with one game to spare after falling to a <a href="https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/home/reports/match-report-notts-county-miss-out-on-top-three-with-defeat-at-grimsby-town-r2653/" rel="">2-1 defeat at Grimsby Town</a> on Saturday afternoon.
</p>

<p>
	The Magpies laboured at Blundell Park and fell behind through Nathan Clarke's first-half strike.
</p>

<p>
	Kevin Nolan's side then looked to have secured a point as Dan Jones stabbed home with only a minute left on the clock.
</p>

<p>
	However, the Mariners were not to be denied and substitute Jamille Matt headed a winner in the third of five added minutes to slam the door firmly shut on County's top-three ambitions.
</p>

<p>
	With third-placed Wycombe Wanderers winning at Chesterfield, it meant that the Chairboys won automatic promotion to League One alongside champions Accrington Stanley and second-placed Luton Town.
</p>

<p>
	How did the Notts contingent react to the defeat? Pride of Nottingham takes a closer look.
</p>

<p>
	<u><strong>Kevin Nolan</strong></u>
</p>

<p>
	"We huffed and puffed all day but didn't really put them under enough pressure.
</p>

<p>
	"We didn't use our game plan effectively enough and deserved what we got.
</p>

<p>
	"But I've been proud of the players all season long - they've been fantastic.
</p>

<p>
	"It would have been lovely going into the last game of the season with half a chance of being promoted, but we've had a fantastic 17 months."
</p>

<p>
	<u><strong>The Black &amp; White Army</strong></u>
</p>

<p>
	Chris:<strong> </strong>I've been told that it's been a very disappointing result, however inconsistency can creep into play and this is what I am going to label it down too. I'm not disappointed at this stage about missing out on the autos, I'm looking forward to seeing how things pan out in the coming weeks. Grimsby are a fighting team, they're a side very capable of matching or even out playing any side on the day. Just hope we can start to find some sort of consistency going into the playoffs, as we will need it - I do think form goes out the window there too.
</p>

<p>
	Fan of Big Tone: I’ve got to say I was disappointed, nay gutted, I was hoping it would go down to the last match and we creep into the automatics but isn’t it great to have an exciting end to the season for a change? Whatever happens it’s been a great season.
</p>

<p>
	David Pratt: Did say a few weeks ago Wembley here we come
</p>

<p>
	Martyn Coyle: On to the playoffs, great 1st full season in the Hardy era COYP!
</p>

<p>
	Lewis Jackson: The referee today was by far the worst I've seen all season, and I've seen some really poor refs, but however the team simply wasn't good enough today too many sloppy passes and negative football.. Liam noble worst player on the pitch
</p>

<p>
	Rosemary Sanders: Done well this season but not well enough . Do the players really want Division one ??
</p>

<p>
	Adam Bonkers Bird: Shitty ref strikes again. Carl Boyeson is an absolute nob, who ruined our match against Stanley last August when we were 2 goals up. Two stonewall pennos today could have won us this game. These bad refereeing decisions have cost us quite a number of times this season.
</p>

<p>
	Dave Woolley: How frustrating a team this is... lost away to all the bottom 3 clubs ( and to those who slated me for not being positive, well I don’t like to say I told you so; but I did). Yes ok a decent season overall but we don’t have enough bottle to win the playoffs.Just hope next season isn’t “after the Lord Mayors show and we struggle again !
</p>

<p>
	Steve Blyth: Let’s hope the play offs are not on TV otherwise we are stuffed !
</p>

<p>
	David Warren: On way home now on supporters coach and if we play like that Wembley just a dream
</p>

<p>
	Sam Lock: Disappointing, but would have taken play offs at the start of the season.We're a flawed team that play well on our day, but so are all the other play off teams. I'm excited to see how we get <img alt=":)" data-emoticon="1" height="20" src="https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/uploads/emoticons/default_smile.png" srcset="https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/uploads/emoticons/smile@2x.png 2x" title=":)" width="20" loading="lazy">
</p>

<p>
	Stephen Greenfield: It appears that the negativity of some of the people making comments spreads like a bad apple through a barrel  . So sad , it’s all to play for. , let’s hope these negative people keep well clear of the ground where their presence may contaminate the whole stadium ! .
</p>

<p>
	Paul Topley: We've beaten &amp; we've been beaten by Coventry, Lincoln &amp; Exeter this season, 50/50 .COYP
</p>

<p>
	Lee Atkins: May be the players want the play offs and were saving them selves? Thats how im thinking anyway
</p>

<p>
	Nigel Trueman: If we stay in League 2 expect a more difficult season.  A lot of players either need to leave or will leave.  recruitment is harder in League 2 and the team need time to gel
</p>

<p>
	Scott Jones: Coventry aren’t anything special an Lincoln ain’t that great either
</p>

<p>
	John Webster: We cannot afford to go up it’s the usual excuse
</p>

<p>
	Mariusz Cwiklinski: Looking at the table, I've got to admit we've had a better season than most of us expected. We'll done Notts! Now we've got to start building for a new season, recognise our weaknesses and cover them asap, COYP's.
</p>

<p>
	Carl Alvey: Better season than the last one
</p>

<p>
	Nick Emmerson: And now to lose In playoffs. Not good enough to win. Cov or Lincoln will win it
</p>

<p>
	Jay Dalton: I'm gutted for the automatic dream but hey we are in the playoffs the dream of Wembley is still alive
</p>

<p>
	Brian Mawby: We won’t be going up not enough passion in this team. Too many defeats against bottom teams we should have been up already but anyway COYP
</p>

<p>
	Shannon Smeed: At least we are in the playoffs COYP
</p>

<p>
	Barry Bazza Hallam: What will be will be !!!

<p>
	Notts County secured a spot in the League Two playoffs thanks to Saturday's <a href="https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/home/reports/notts-county-hammer-yeovil-town-to-clinch-league-two-playoff-place-r2638/" rel="">resounding 4-1 win over Yeovil Town at Meadow Lane.</a>
</p>

<p>
	In addition, victory took the Magpies to within two points of third-placed Wycombe Wanderers - who lost 3-0 at Accrington Stanley - with two games left to play.
</p>

<p>
	A superb own goal from Tom James and strikes from Elliott Hewitt and Lewis Alessandra added to Dan Jones's opener late in the first half, though Alex Fisher netted in injury time for the Glovers.
</p>

<p>
	Here is some of the post-match reaction from the game at the San Sirrel.
</p>

<p>
	<u><strong>Kevin Nolan</strong></u>
</p>

<p>
	“I thought it was an outstanding performance and the score could have been more. It’s another great win to keep this momentum going.
</p>

<p>
	“I’ve been saying all season long, we’re a team who have created lots of chances but we haven’t had that ruthlessness.
</p>

<p>
	“We’ve worked doubly hard over the past few weeks to get more balls into the box and score more goals. Some of the goals and the finishing today was absolutely fantastic.
</p>

<p>
	“The lads have stepped up to the plate over the past few weeks. They’ve been very positive and they’re driving each other on. I’m absolutely delighted for them.”
</p>

<p>
	<u><strong>Dan Jones</strong></u>
</p>

<p>
	“An air of confidence has come back. Training has been good, bubbly, sharp and intense.
</p>

<p>
	"Everyone is smiling and we’re looking like we were at the beginning of the season.
</p>

<p>
	“I love playing for the gaffer, the coaching staff and the boys. It’s a feel-good place with no negativity.
</p>

<p>
	“We’re going a game at a time. We can only look after ourselves and keep winning.
</p>

<p>
	“It’s nice to be part of a successful team - we have done really well.
</p>

<p>
	"But we haven’t really thought about the play-offs yet. It’s another win and we keep the momentum going."
</p>

<p>
	<u><strong>The Black &amp; White Army</strong></u>
</p>

<p>
	Richard Thompson: Took our chances , better 2nd half
</p>

<p>
	Mick Jones: Still plenty of room for improvement, particularly with our defending at times but at least we made the most of the few chances that we created and guaranteed a play off spot at worst.
</p>

<p>
	Julie Curwood: Amazing it was a fantastic win for us just wat we needed.u pies
</p>

<p>
	Jay Dalton: what a performance everyone gave 100% cracking match get in Nolan's super notts black white army

</p>

<p>
	Ian Ale Goode: uuuu pies
</p>

<p>
	David Nicholls: All the other results went our way...Still a slim chance of 3rd but play offs are a definite
</p>

	However, the Magpies stormed back in the second half as Jonathan Forte, Shola Ameobi and Richard Duffy sealed a memorable comeback for Kevin Nolan's side.
</p>

<p>
	Tom Eastman hit the post for Colchester but Notts hung on to claim a comeback victory that sees them sit four points off the automatic promotion spots
</p>

<p>
	Here is some of the post-match reaction from the events in Essex.
</p>

<p>
	<u><strong>Kevin Nolan</strong></u>
</p>

<p>
	"We had a few choice words at half-time. I just feel we didn't match the high standards we set last week.
</p>

<p>
	"I challenged them to get back to that level as quickly as possible and show the togetherness, character and spirit they've shown all season.
</p>

<p>
	"We were lucky to get in at 1-0 but I thought the goals we scored were fantastic and they came at the right time.
</p>

<p>
	"The lads' character was absolutely brilliant in the second half and I thought we were well-deserved winners."
</p>

<p>
	<u><strong>Richard Duffy</strong></u>
</p>

<p>
	“We were not good in the first half to say the least and we didn’t do what we were told to do.
</p>

<p>
	“We have instructions and things on the board which tells us what we need to do to win games and we didn’t do any of it.
</p>

<p>
	“They hit the post early doors in the second half but apart from that and when we scored the goal, there was only going to be one team who won it.
</p>

<p>
	“I’ve seen the manager angrier but he said what he thought and I don’t think anybody could disagree with him.
</p>

<p>
	“He walked out and the lads got together and had a quick chat. We got some more instructions and gladly we came out and put in a performance.
</p>

<p>
	“We had intent, we got it forward and we won a lot more second balls. The back four got up and in the first half we didn’t do that.
</p>

<p>
	“They found pockets and were playing through us and big Adam Collin made a fantastic save to keep it at 1-0.
</p>

<p>
	“If you are not playing well being a goal down allows you to regroup at half-time and you go again. That’s what we did and we scored three good goals.”
</p>

<p>

<p>
	<u><strong>The Black &amp; White Army</strong></u>
</p>

<p>
	Dave Woolley: Absolutely wonderful 2nd half well done again JF 3 in 2 games ! That’s a strikers return.... fantastic.
</p>

<p>
	Mariusz Cwiklinski: Well, looks like Forte is taking his long overdue chance, good lad ????
</p>

<p>
	Tracy Rigby: ????????????????⚫️⚪️????????????????
</p>

<p>
	Mark Rogers: Automatic promotion still not out of the question COYPs ????
</p>

<p>
	Neale Tristram: Top result after a nervous first half ????
</p>

<p>
	Andrew Rayson: Well done Notts, and well done Nolan for sticking to what worked the previous week for once. It is actually really refreshing to have reason to hand out praise all round for a change...Those on here who constantly disagree with me enough to mock me and doubt my support for the team; read the above Carefully.
</p>

<p>
	Christopher Key: Up a place to 4th! Really happy with that.
</p>

<p>
	Claire N Shane Wigley: Backto winning ways Mr Nolan
</p>

<p>
	David Skelding: Great team spirit to turn that around! Let's get that play-off spot in the bag!

<p>
	Notts County returned to winning ways as Jonathan Forte's brace sealed a <a href="https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/home/reports/match-report-jonathan-forte-the-hero-as-notts-county-see-off-coventry-city-r2601/" rel="">2-1 victory over League Two promotion rivals Coventry City at Meadow Lane</a>.
</p>

<p>
	Pride of Nottingham-sponsored Forte broke the deadlock when he glanced in Jorge Grant's corner in the 60th minute.
</p>

<p>
	Coventry equalised in the 85th minute as substitute Jordan Ponticelli deceived goalkeeper Adam Collin with a deft flick into the back of the net.
</p>

<p>
	However, the Magpies responded immediately when Forte got a touch on Shola Ameobi's low cross to secure a vital three points.
</p>

<p>
	Notts had not won in their last four games but victory leaves them four points off the automatic promotion spots and five ahead of their opponents, who hold the final playoff place.
</p>

<p>
	How did the Notts contingent react to the win? Pride of Nottingham takes a closer look.
</p>

<p>
	<u><strong>Kevin Nolan</strong></u>
</p>

<p>
	"The lads were terrific and got their just desserts in the end.
</p>

<p>
	"The way we handled them equalising by going up the other end and producing a bit of quality for the winner was fantastic.
</p>

<p>
	"I have spoken about the character of the team all season and they have shown it in abundance today.
</p>

<p>
	"I'm absolutely delighted because I think we deserved the win. We were back to our old selves and it was really pleasing on the eye today.
</p>

<p>
	"Our main focus is now on Colchester and replicating the performance and the result from this afternoon."
</p>

<p>
	<u><strong>Jonathan Forte</strong></u>
</p>

<p>
	"It's been a while but I'm happy to score some goals and get the win for the team.
</p>

<p>
	"From the start of the season I have wanted to play but it's the manager's decision. You want to prove the manager that you are worthy of being in the starting line-up and hopefully I have done that.
</p>

<p>
	"I think the second goal came off my heel from Shola's cutback. It was either that or miss it so I tried to wrap my foot around it to flick it in!
</p>

<p>
	"Coventry are a very physical team and are good at what they do but I think we matched them. They put quite a bit of pressure on us towards the end but we held out."
</p>

<p>

</div>

<p>
	<u><strong>The Black &amp; White Army</strong></u>
</p>

<p>
	Chris: Fantastic win today and, I'm pleased for Forte who has proven that he can do well. I get the feeling Kevin Nolan doesn't like quiet people, though I still suspect that his training ground work will be criticized eventually by KN. Did I expect to win Coventry City? No I didn't, yet we deserved it and I praise the way the players responded. It's a good win which gives us a strong fight to secure a playoff place! Well done Notts. COYP!
</p>

<p>
	Fan of Big Tone: A great win, especially the way they scored shortly after the Coventry fans were going barmy celebrating their equaliser. They are showing the team spirit and dogged determined mentality that they had earlier in the season, I’m glad we’ve got our Notts back. This will give them confidence for the run in. Great to see Forte scoring two goals and giving KN a headache for the next match. I agree with @chris I think KN hasn’t been picking him because he is quiet but I notice KN said in the interview afterwards that he was happy to be proved wrong. Special mention also for Virtue who had his best game for Notts.
</p>

<p>
	Sabretooth: Deserved the win... Coventry fans singing 'who are ya, who are ya, who are.....????????????????..' brilliant timing Mr Forte... ???? ???? ????
</p>

<p>
	Steve Campbell: Scrappy game, dug in well for the win. Good to see heads didn’t drop when they equalised at a crucial time. Well played Notts!
</p>

<p>
	LadyLozClough: TOLD YOU HE SHOULD BE PLAYING! Probably off at the end of the Season and lots to prove to others. Think he’ll have the same work rate TIL then: so play him every game!
</p>

<p>
	Nick Norman: I feel forte hasn't been treated fair. He's better than john dead. I've always been a fan of forte and well happy he took his chances today
</p>

<p>
	Mark Connors: Great win Notts,how come there are only a handful of comments but when we lose there are tens of comments ????
</p>

<p>
	Peter Hastings: Y forte asnt been involved in team much is stupid all season he's hardly played
</p>

<p>
	Dave Woolley: Any odds on Kevin reverting back to Ameobi &amp; Stead for the last few games?
</p>

<p>
	Peter Walker: Jonathan Forte is a proven goal scorer for us why does he not get more games ????????????
</p>

<p>
	Dave Woolley: Absolutely fantastic. I am so pleased for the boy Forte.... well done ????
</p>

<p>
	Thomas George Polkey: FORTE there's only one Jonathan FORTE ????????
</p>

<p>
	Jay Dalton: super super notts electric performance second half sheer brilliance play forte now on until end of season coyp
</p>

<p>
	Rosemary Sanders: Well done you pies now keep the momentum going more wins please !!

<p>
	Notts County are now seven points adrift of League Two's automatic promotion places as they <a href="https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/home/reports/match-report-notts-county-automatic-promotion-hopes-in-tatters-following-loss-to-accrington-stanley-r2587/" rel="">were beaten 1-0 at Accrington Stanley on Easter Monday</a>.
</p>

<p>
	Mark Hughes's early goal was enough to settle the game between the sides at the Wham Stadium as the Magpies slipped to fifth in the table.
</p>

<p>
	Notts wasted three gilt-edged opportunities to equalise with Jonathan Forte hitting the bar, while Matty Virtue and substitute Jorge Grant both shot wide when unmarked.
</p>

<p>
	With Stanley winning, and Luton Town and Wycombe Wanderers also recording victories, Kevin Nolan's side face a mountain to get back into the top three, and surely the target must now be remaining in the playoffs.
</p>

<p>
	How did the Notts contingent and fans react to the loss? Here is a round-up of some of the post-match reaction.
</p>

<p>
	<u><strong>Kevin Nolan</strong></u>
</p>

<p>
	"We didn't put them under enough pressure. We had very good possession but we didn't put it in the right areas.
</p>

<p>
	"We had two glorious opportunities and didn't put either in the back of the net. When you do that, it changes the game.
</p>

<p>
	"I thought we more than matched them in a few areas and Adam Collin made some good saves, which is the difference.
</p>

<p>
	"Our goalkeeper has had to make saves whereas we have had opportunities to get shots in and we haven't made the goalkeeper work, which is the most disappointing part of it."
</p>

<p>
	<u><strong>The Black &amp; White Army</strong></u>
</p>

<p>
	Mark Connors: Shut up moaning KN is damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t - if he had named an unchanged side the moaners would have slated him - at the end of the day we are a middle table side who KN has motivated to do better,we have run out of steam and need the fans to try to get us in the playoffs by getting behind the lads not keep moaning and criticising
</p>

<p>
	Kevin Hopcroft: Hang on we are away at top of the league. This is a team that is beating everyone. I would have taken a draw. Admitted we need a quick striker. But lets remember where we have been the last few seasons. This is progress just need to buy in a few positions. I can not stand the haters coming out when we lose. The re build was mid table this season and push for promotion next season. We have been over achieving. In Hardy and Nolan we trust. COYP
</p>

<p>
	Matt Craig: Same old **** nolans tactically inept 1 shot on target all game nolan out
</p>

<p>
	Neale Tristram What on earth happened over Christmas?? We've gone back to playing like we did before Nolan! Play offs looking dodgy with 2 points from 12 which isn't going to keep us in the top 7! Big clear out in the summer.
</p>

<p>
	Craig Spencer: just got back and we lost to the better side.end of. Coventry city 3 points at the lane plz#and to all the nolan moaners YOU KNOW IF HE f@@ks off somewhere else i hope your happy.its a crucial stage of the season UNITY IS NEEDED NOTTS FANS ;CMON UNITE AND LETS GET THE LADS OVER THE FINISH LINE.YOU PIES #BIG SHOUT TO NOTTS CO SUPPORTERS CLUB 1947 FOR A GREAT DAY OUT!!
</p>

<p>
	Andy Whibberley: Can't believe people are calling for Nolan to go. The endless managerial merrygoround at Notts was a disaster on the pitch and made the club a joke. Coleman has been at Accrington a total of around 15 years. Or about 25 managers in Notts terms. Look where consistency gets you. Sheridan is doing well again. Shall we get him back??
</p>

<p>
	Adrian Wheatley: Just can not put the ball in the net if the rumours are right sign up Ranger till the end of the season or we won’t even make the play offs
</p>

<p>
	Will Hart: At the beginning of the season I was hoping for a top 10 position based on the fact this season was all about stability. Therefore a bonus if we make the playoffs.
</p>

<p>
	Darren Handley: Blah blah blah for the people that have a bad opinion about the bad tactics I wouldn’t waste your breath as the nodding dogs who was nodding away with the trews will always call you a non Notts supporter these noddies would still be happy if we was in non league.it was in trew we trust now it’s in hardy we trust another business man with no football brain but hey wait untill we get new hotels we can all be buzzing about that ????????????????
</p>

<p>
	Luke James: Well played Nolan! what a half hearted attempt at a vital game in the season. We will be lucky to get play offs on this form.
</p>

<p>
	Spencer Burrows: we've been poor for some time now, we're not even good enough for the play offs.
</p>

<p>
	Nigel Trueman: No surprise tbf. playing mid table results wise. fully expect to finish outside the playoff places and sorry to say it but with a rebuild required next season a mid-table finish
</p>

<p>
	David Nicholls: We've **** it now.... playoffs at best... 2 points from 12 isn't it.... that's not the performance of winners....
</p>

<p>
	Martyn Malone: Was never going to win there even with 7 changes bye bye Automatic might just make playoffs at this rate
</p>

<p><img src="https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/uploads/monthly_2018_03/ml2.JPG.8cbb3642f52209957561f7ac152fb0bb.JPG" /></p>
<p>
	Notts County have missed out on the chance to gain ground on the top three in League Two as they were <a href="https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/home/reports/match-report-notts-county-held-to-goalless-draw-by-wycombe-wanderers-r2579/" rel="">held to a goalless draw by Wycombe Wanderers in Good Friday's match at Meadow Lane</a>.
</p>

<p>
	The Chairboys came to NG2 very much intent on leaving with a point and the Magpies could not break their defence down in an uninspiring, rain-sodden encounter which saw Kevin Nolan sent to the stands by referee Ben Toner.
</p>

<p>
	How did the Notts contingent react to the events in the game and the result? Here is a collection of post-match reaction from Pride of Nottingham.
</p>

<p>
	<u><strong>Kevin Nolan (official Notts site)</strong></u>
</p>

<p>
	"We certainly got a response from last weekend. The lads were disappointed with what happened but the response since then has been magnificent, as it always has been when we have had that type of performance.
</p>

<p>
	"We could have put them under a bit more pressure, I thought we could have done a lot more in possession and in the final third.
</p>

<p>
	"We had the better chances but Wycombe came with a game plan which worked really well.
</p>

<p>
	"We've been fantastic all season and will continue to work hard. We have six games left and we have to get as many points on the board as possible to keep the momentum going.
</p>

<p>
	"Wycombe are the best team away from home in the league for a reason and you saw that today. They don't give you an inch.
</p>

<p>
	"We're disappointed but this point could go a long way come the end of the season."
</p>

<p>
	<u><strong>Kevin Nolan (Nottingham Post)</strong></u>
</p>

<p>
	“It was laughable and he sent me off for waving my arms. When the penalty was not given all I heard the fourth official say was that ‘he has to go the stands’.
</p>

<p>
	“I think he was looking for a bit of a name for himself because he sent Kevin Nolan to the stands. That’s how I’ve seen it because he was very arrogant all day.
</p>

<p>
	“They just haven’t managed the situation and when you’ve got two teams who are playing for something, you’ve got to send the best referee. He was by far not the best referee they could have sent for this game.
</p>

<p>
	“Something has to be done because they (referees) have cost us a lot of points and four or five penalties which are blatant.
</p>

<p>
	“They are not ones that are debatable. How many times can I keep accepting it?”
</p>

<p>
	<u><strong>Shaun Brisley (OS)</strong></u>
</p>

<p>
	"It was frustrating. Wycombe came here with a game plan, stuck to it well and took the rhythm out of our play. We were good out of possession but didn't have that edge in the final third.
</p>

<p>
	"They are the best team away from home in the league so we respect the draw. It's a point gained which is nothing to get down about."
</p>

<p>
	<u><strong>The Black &amp; White Army</strong></u>
</p>

<p>
	Kieran Shaw: We were poor, no idea why everyone is blaming the ref, the only thing he got wrong was the ‘foul’ on the Wycombe goalkeeper
</p>

<p>
	Magpie Moomin: Don't matter who is on the bench the ref was w**k he was never going to give us anything full stop when you get two stonewall penalties and not given come on wtf is the ref on ffs
</p>

<p>
	Ken Carter: It boils down to carrying the 4 midfield players. We don't have any creativity and we can't win a second ball. Yates has been a massive miss.
</p>

<p>
	Michael Rimmingtom: The game was what I expected two teams with something to play for but when is the football league going to do something regarding the standard of referring in this division this bloke today was out of his depth and this standard of referring is not only costing Notts dearly but no doubt other clubs as well.
</p>

<p>
	Tony Guy: Apart from the referee spoiling the flow of the game, not awarding two clear penalties, see the free kicks he gave, we just do not create enough chances. 5 shots in 90 minutes is not good enough but would have settled for a point before the game given both teams recent form. Acc Monday! COYPS
</p>

<p>
	Steven Taberham: Same predictable stuff from Notts. While we continue to persist in playing route one to two slow forwards (Ameobi looked knackered as he walked up the tunnel) and with no real creative midfielders, teams will know exactly how to deal with us. Such a shame the management can't see what is obvious to all the fans. Play offs at best
</p>

<p>
	Jay Dalton: defensive we were solid I'll take a draw for this it was a tough game and again where do the fa get these officials from shocking
</p>

<p>
	Weston John Pegg: Its about time we got a striker way overdue. Players can’t take the pressures.
</p>

<p>
	Lewis Swinson: It was a great game, played well defensive looked a lot stronger than last week but the ref was an complete k**bhead, wrong decisions all game, something needs to be done
</p>

<p>
	Simon Staples: Wycombe’s game plan was to spoil and win free kicks so they could pump the ball up to Akinfenwa. Notts tried to play around them but the ref did not support them and was suckered by their play acting.
</p>

<p>
	Rob Matchett: Wasn’t a bad game in all fairness. Two teams at the top was a good battle. The way people on here go on they would think they were expecting to watch Barcelona...
</p>

<p>
	Aidan Huckle: Far too predictable, was not the worst performance, just no where near county's best.
</p>

<p>
	Alan Turner: They came to spoil, as we have only one game plan, and no one to change it. Need a forward bad.
</p>

	Notts County's promotion hopes suffered another blow as League Two strugglers <a href="https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/home/reports/match-report-dreadful-notts-county-performance-ends-in-defeat-to-chesterfield-r2560/" rel="">Chesterfield ran out 3-1 winners in Sunday's encounter at the Proact Stadium</a>.
</p>

<p>
	The hosts took the lead on 16 minutes Andy Kellett's corner was touched on by Drew Talbot and Sid Nelson chested the ball past Magpies goalkeeper Adam Collin from point-blank range.
</p>

<p>
	Elliott Hewitt then missed a sitter before the Spireites doubled their lead through a poor clearance that was rifled home by Zavon Hines.
</p>

<p>
	Notts huffed and puffed and laboured throughout the early afternoon but they put themselves within a goal of getting something from the game thanks to Dan Jones's free kick.
</p>

<p>
	Despite the County goal and nine minutes of stoppage time, there was to be no salvaging of a point as Chesterfield went on to score a penalty in the dying moments of the game.

<p>
	Should you, for whatever reason, wish to relive the key moments from the game, maybe as a reminder of when Notts bottled their season or a lesson in how not to play football, here are the highlights.

</p>

<p>
	How did the Notts contingent react to the result? Pride of Nottingham takes a closer look.
</p>

<p>
	<u><strong>Kevin Nolan (official Notts site)</strong></u>
</p>

<p>
	"We just have to take it on the chin. Chesterfield were better than us on the day. They worked harder and did the bits in and out of possession really well.
</p>

<p>
	"They kept it a lot better than us and fair play to them they got their just rewards.
</p>

<p>
	"What we have got to do is concentrate on us. They were the better team but we were way below our standards."
</p>

<p>
	<u><strong>Kevin Nolan (Nottingham Post)</strong></u>
</p>

<p>
	"We have had a fantastic season and the bigger picture is that we are still in a fantastic position.
</p>

<p>
	"What we have to do now is make sure we go back to being ourselves as soon as possible - we have seven games to respond.
</p>

<p>
	"Over 39 games so far this season these lads have shown why they deserve to be where they are in the table and I am hoping today is a blip.
</p>

<p>
	"I am looking for a response right away and, if we get that, we will be okay."
</p>

<p>
	<u><strong>John Thompson (BBC Radio Nottingham)</strong></u>
</p>

<p>
	"There was never really a plan B. It's a frustrating game all around. This was a very bad 90 minutes.
</p>

<p>
	"Today their two centre-halves dominated (against Stead and Ameobi), there was a lack of pace. Chesterfield were constantly running at the Notts defence. They (Notts) look a bit devoid of ideas out there today.
</p>

<p>
	"There was no real leadership out there. There was nobody wanting the ball. The players didn't seem to know what was the right way to win the game.
</p>

<p>
	"(Nolan) has got to address it and think about perhaps a change in formation."
</p>

<p>
	<u><strong>The Black &amp; White Army</strong></u>
</p>

<p>
	Northants Pie: John Thompson summed our season up perfectly when he said Chesterfield are playing football and Notts are just hoofing aimless balls towards Ameobi &amp; Stead... we got found out mid November and haven't changed it since, unfortunately.
</p>

<p>
	Christopher Key: Abysmal. Long ball for almost 90 minutes. We didn't look like a top table team at any point. Didn't win first balls, couldn't defend. Psychologically, we couldn't hack it. Want to find a positive, but just can't.
</p>

<p>
	Rosemary Sanders: Disappointing isn’t the word doesn’t bode well in view of forthcoming fixtures !! Not enough strengthening of the squad in January but the players have done their best Mr Hardy dig deep in your pocket . Come on you pies don’t lose it now.
</p>

<p>
	Martin Bates: Not really surprised. This "holding, shielding, midfield line" just doesnt work. Sooner or later you need to put a tackle in &amp; preferably before they get to the penalty area. Just because it worked at H vs Swansea, it hasnt worked since! I just cant understand how Husin, the best technical player at the club cant get in the team. He can keep a ball, play it &amp; ask for it back. Noble &amp; Hewitt just offer nothing offensively notwithstanding Hewitt has had a good season. 7 game season, the teams who go out &amp; try to win will go up. Those who play safe will miss out. I'll leave it to others to work out which Notts fall under!
</p>

<p>
	Colin Hodgson: Stop playing the same team week in week out. They are all looking knackered. At least we are in the mix and a lot better off than last season. So improving immensely just need to freshen it up in the final hurdle of the season. Kevin Nolan's black and white army!
</p>

<p>
	Thomas George Polkey: No where near good enough. Why does Nolan seem very reluctant to put on forte?????? Having two slow strikers and heavily relying on the long ball will not give Notts much of a chance.
</p>

<p>
	Tony D Beardsley: 2-1 down &amp; into injury time &amp; our goalkeeper has more possession than our goal scorers so says it all really!
</p>

<p>
	Jason Chambers: We’ll be lucky to make the play offs if we carry on playing like that, never mind autos! That chance has gone now. Poor performance.
</p>

<p>
	Jaychristina Kasraie: Embarrasing everytime on tv , makes them look like clowns, not on form today
</p>

<p>
	Rob Freeman: Failing to invest properly in the January transfer window will ultimatley cost Notts promotion.
</p>

<p>
	Luke James: Played league two football at a league two team Nolan looks like he is panicking and not trusting own his tactics play like that over Easter and we will he resigned to the play offs possibly not even that!
</p>

<p>
	Steven Taberham: 5 points lost in 2 out of the last 3 games. Just not good enough. May just about stay in the play off places.
</p>

<p>
	Dean Belfield: We got what we deserved nothing! To be fair to chesterfield they played us off the park. To many passengers we need to take a good look at ourselves and change our approach its not good enough!
</p>

<p>
	Mark Nixon: There is no pace in the team what so ever the front 2 are like statues need to mix it up league 2 defenders hate pace and we still left them both on. Why not take Dicko off and put another forward on?? We were 2 down.
</p>

	Notts County were pegged back eight minutes into injury time as Mansfield Town's late, late penalty saw them leave Meadow Lane with a point in a <a href="https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/home/reports/match-report-notts-county-denied-at-the-death-against-mansfield-town-r2532/" rel="">1-1 draw</a>.
</p>

<p>
	The Magpies were on the verge of recording a first league win over the Stags since 2005 in front of a bumper crowd that braved the snowy, cold, treacherous conditions at the San Sirrel.
</p>

<p>
	Kevin Nolan's boys took the lead in the first half through Terry Hawkridge bundling home, but the Stags were given the chance to equalise eight minutes into the seven minutes of added time at the end of the game.
</p>

<p>
	Alex MacDonald headed into the box in the last minute of injury time with the ball hitting Lewis Alessandra on the arm, prompting referee Andy Woolmer to point to the spot.
</p>

<p>
	Kane Hemmings made no mistake from 12 yards, and so the hoodoo against the bitter rivals continues.
</p>

<p>
	How did the Notts contingent (Kevin Nolan, players and fans) react to the result? Here is Pride of Nottingham's post-match reaction compilation.
</p>

<p>
	<u><strong>Kevin Nolan (official site)</strong></u>
</p>

<p>
	"I don't think I've ever been involved in a game with weather conditions like that.
</p>

<p>
	"I'm delighted with the lads for the way they went about it in really difficult conditions.
</p>

<p>
	"We shaded it, had chances and limited them to very few until the last minute, when they are going to throw everything at you.
</p>

<p>
	"The way we handled everything - the occasion, the atmosphere and the conditions - was absolutely spot on.
</p>

<p>
	"They deserved to win after the performance they put in."
</p>

<p>
	<u><strong>Kevin Nolan (Nottingham Post)</strong></u>
</p>

<p>
	“My lads have been robbed of two points. We played really well and they got the goal they deserved. They limited Mansfield to very few chances.
</p>

<p>
	“The first chance they had in which the keeper had to make a save was in the 97th minute.
</p>

<p>
	“I am flabbergasted and I don’t know how we have come off the pitch having drawn the game.
</p>

<p>
	“The referee cost us two points with a horrendous, terrible, decision. It was outside the box and the referee has no excuses.
</p>

<p>
	“It’s so bad because my lads had to earn the right to get a goal and to try for a clean sheet.
</p>

<p>
	“We did enough to win the game, but the referee has given them a penalty out of nothing.
</p>

<p>
	“This is third v fifth. It’s so disappointing and it is happening week in and week out. But I am so proud of my lads.”
</p>

<p>
	<u><strong>Terry Hawkridge (OS)</strong></u>
</p>

<p>
	"I thought we played really well today. It was tough but I thought we dug in well, were the better side on the day and did enough to win the game but some decisions go your way and some don't.
</p>

<p>
	"The lads are disappointed because it was a late goal and we thought we could hold on but we have to carry on and concentrate on the next game. This could prove to be a good point in the end."
</p>

<p>
	<u><strong>The Black and White Army (PON social media)</strong></u>
</p>

<p>
	<strong>Lee Atkins:</strong> 7 mins stoppage time so he gives a penalty in 7 mins 30 seconds!!! Mmmmmmm.
</p>

<p>
	<strong>Derek Gill: </strong>Too many points dropped after 90 mins, will cost promotion this year.
</p>

<p>
	<strong>Magpie Moomin:</strong> The only person who saw a pen was the ref where the F**K did he find 7 mins???
</p>

<p>
	<strong>Richard Wood:</strong> It was a definite penalty. We asked for trouble tbf.
</p>

<p>
	<strong>Dave Woolley: </strong>If we had a striker a last minute penalty wouldn’t have mattered. Same old same old.
</p>

<p>
	<strong>Geoff King: </strong>They could come with us... Getting very interesting.. The top 7 could all look very different on Easter Tuesday.
</p>

<p>
	<strong>Ian Rogers:</strong> Robbed by a Referee who somehow managed to pluck 7 minutes of added time from thin air, and then play 10 - W ⚓ ! !
</p>

<p>
	<strong>Alan Turner:</strong> No wonder managers get in to trouble, for speaking their mind. When the FA keep protecting these idiots, and put them in a glass cage. They should be made to be held for their mistakes, and explain them. Not whitewashed over. A lot is riding on games these days. Not only money but people's livelihood. Rant over. ????

	Notts County were pegged back eight minutes into injury time as Mansfield Town's late, late penalty saw them leave Meadow Lane with a point in a <a href="https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/home/reports/match-report-notts-county-denied-at-the-death-against-mansfield-town-r2532/" rel="">1-1 draw</a>.

<p>
	Notts County came so close to claiming a first league victory against Mansfield Town since 2005 but ultimately <a href="https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/home/reports/match-report-notts-county-denied-at-the-death-against-mansfield-town-r2532/" rel="">they fell just short in heartbreaking circumstances</a>.
</p>

<p>
	The big League Two derby, which kicked off at 1pm, saw the Magpies take the lead midway through the first half.
</p>

<p>
	Terry Hawkridge was the man who scored the opener, a scrappy goal bundled home from close range after Conrad Logan had palmed Shola Ameobi's header back out into danger.
</p>

<p>
	The Stags improved in the second half but Notts had appeared to have done enough when the clock ticked past the seven minutes of added time.
</p>

<p>
	But the game continued and, in the eighth minute, Lewis Alessandra's handball in the box - though even that is contentious - led to a penalty, which Kane Hemmings converted for a final score of 1-1.

<p>
	Notts County <a href="https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/home/reports/match-report-liam-noble-helps-notts-county-defeat-former-club-forest-green-rovers-r2510/" rel="">secured a hard-fought 2-1 win over Forest Green Rovers</a> on Saturday to keep them third in the League Two table.
</p>

<p>
	Liam Noble returned to haunt his former club, of which he was captain, with the opener for the Magpies after 34 minutes played at the New Lawn.
</p>

<p>
	Lewis Alessandra was brought down in the FGR box but the referee opted to play the advantage, which resulted in Noble rifling home before celebrating avidly in front of the Green Devils fans
</p>

<p>
	Although Tahvon Campbell - also playing against his former club - equalised in the second half, Matt Tootle had the final say with a drive past FGR goalkeeper Brad Collins, which meant the Slug celebration came out in all its glory.
</p>

<p>
	Here is the reaction from Kevin Nolan, the Notts players, and the Black &amp; White Army to the win in Gloucestershire.
</p>

<p>
	<u><strong>Kevin Nolan</strong></u>
</p>

<p>
	"I'm absolutely delighted and thought the win was well-deserved. The lads were magnificent and stuck to the gameplan brilliantly.
</p>

<p>
	"We knew they would have a good go a us in the second half and they put us under a bit of pressure.
</p>

<p>
	"Tahvon Campbell came on, scored a fantastic goal and then smashed one off the bar from 25 yards. A few weeks ago that would have hit Adam Collin on the back and gone in.
</p>

<p>
	"We limited them to few chances and, if we upped our quality on the ball when we won possession back, we could have punished them a lot more."
</p>

<p>
	<u><strong>Liam Noble</strong></u>
</p>

<p>
	"We knew we had to back up the point we got at Cheltenham. That looks like a massive point now.
</p>

<p>
	"It's a big three points but there are another nine cup finals to go and another 27 points to play for.
</p>

<p>
	"It's a massive nine games but we are going to take them as they come.
</p>

<p>
	"We have Mansfield next Saturday and everyone is looking forward to that. Hopefully we can get a full house and put in another strong performance."
</p>

</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Andrew Rayson: WELL DONE NOTTS...I’ve put this in capitals so that the “only praise allowed, ban criticism and honest opinions” brigade of plastic fans can clearly read this warranted praise.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Shane Bostock: I hope those that were slagging noble off b4 kick off r happy now.
