<p><img src="https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/uploads/monthly_2017_08/JS-min.jpg.e8d3d6f7f4e48f35717b8d449fd0f44b.jpg" /></p>
<p>
	Jon Stead has suggested that Notts County are "not a million miles away" from being the finished product, and would welcome new signings in the dressing room.
</p>

<p>
	The Magpies have brought in 11 players on a permanent basis and two loanees this summer, while every squad member offered a new contract went on to put pen to paper.
</p>

<p>
	On the pitch, Notts have enjoyed a decent start to the 2017/18 League Two season, claiming two wins and a draw from their first four fixtures.
</p>

<p>
	The last game, however, saw the team relinquish a two-goal lead to Accrington Stanley, who left Meadow Lane with a point in a <a href="https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/home/reports/match-report-notts-county-let-two-goal-slip-in-accrington-stanley-draw-r1740/" rel="">2-2 draw</a>.
</p>

<p>
	Stead told the Nottingham Post: “We’re satisfied but we wanted more. We put an expectation on ourselves probably more so than the manager does.
</p>

<p>
	“We want to be competing at the top end. We’ve got a point against a very good Accrington side when I don’t think we’re anywhere near where we can be as a squad. We take the point and go again.
</p>

<p>
	“We’re not a million miles away. If we can strengthen the squad then anyone would want that. You always want to be better.
</p>

<p>
	“We’ve got a good group though with lads who are chomping at the bit and not playing. We’ve got good competition.
</p>

<p>
	“That’s not something I’ve seen since I’ve been here. We’ve got a fantastic dressing room too.
</p>

<p>
	“That side of it is the best I’ve seen here and it’s driven by the manager and the characters he signs.”

<p><img src="https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/uploads/monthly_2017_08/59a1c45ab82b2_nolanhand.jpg.2cf928b5d06d030d5eb36e1f5f9f499f.jpg" /></p>
<p>
	Kevin Nolan has claimed that Notts County's <a href="https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/home/reports/match-report-notts-county-let-two-goal-slip-in-accrington-stanley-draw-r1740/" rel="">2-2 draw</a> with Accrington Stanley at the weekend feels more like a defeat, and that his players have got to cut out relinquishing healthy leads in games "right away".
</p>

<p>
	For the second week in a row, the Magpies went two goals ahead, only to see their opponents strike back to level the game, and unlike at Wycombe Wanderers, there was to be no late rally.
</p>

<p>
	“Ruthlessness comes from results. We’ve got this four game unbeaten run now,” Nolan told the Nottingham Post.
</p>

<p>
	“The longer you extend it the more you go into games feeling you won’t get beat. When we’re 2-0 up and letting teams back in, we’ve got to cut that out right away.
</p>

<p>
	“We can’t give the players anything on the training field that gives them that ruthlessness. We help as much as we can, but players have to take ownership for the state of the game.
</p>

<p>
	“We can’t give goals away like we did in this game. They’re a good side Accrington. They keep going and they don’t let you have a minute.
</p>

<p>
	“The lads knew all this. I told them what to expect. We’ve gone 2-0 up but you can’t take anything away from Accrington.
</p>

<p>
	“They’re a good team. We’ve played well. We were deservedly 2-0 up and it should have been three or four, but if you don’t put them to bed that’s what happens.
</p>

<p>
	“We did the same to Exeter last season when we were down to 10 men. It does happen and we’ve got to take it on the chin.
</p>

<p>
	“The positive is that we’re four games unbeaten. It could have been three wins on the spin.
</p>

<p>
	“We’ve had a real tough start in the sense of who we’ve had to play. I think we’ve handled it really well, but it’s disappointing to be in control of the game and not go on to win. It feels like a loss right now."

<p>
	Kevin Nolan has bemoaned Notts County's inability to see out their game with Accrington Stanley, insisting the players "did the wrong things at the wrong times".
</p>

<p>
	For the second successive game, the Magpies took a two-goal lead, only to relinquish it, and there was to be no late rally as <a href="https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/home/reports/match-report-notts-county-let-two-goal-slip-in-accrington-stanley-draw-r1740/" rel="">the match finished 2-2</a>.
</p>

<p>
	Jon Stead's successful spot kick and Jorge Grant's strike were cancelled out through Mark Hughes's goal midway through the second half and loanee Mallik Wilks's injury-time strike.
</p>

<p>
	Nolan did not just reserve criticism for his players, however, also having words to say about the match officials in Friday's league Two game at Meadow Lane.
</p>

<p>
	“We should have seen it out. We got in a fantastic position,” he told the Nottingham Post.
</p>

<p>
	The lads looked nervous but good pressure got the penalty. At 2-0 up and then against 10 men you think ‘right take the sting out of it’.
</p>

<p>
	“We went away from the right things. We’re disappointed because when we look back it’ll be a great point, but you need to see the game out and not give the ref an excuse to even it out.
</p>

<p>
	“We didn’t play to Jonathan Forte’s strengths when he came on. We did the wrong things at the wrong times.
</p>

<p>
	“I’ve got to say I don’t want to keep talking about referees. It seems at the minute they need help. The lads are professional athletes. We need more full time refs and linesmen.”

<p>
	Accrington Stanley manager John Coleman has suggested that Notts County may be too big for League Two ahead of the fixture between the two clubs tonight.
</p>

<p>
	The Magpies and their next opponents have both started the season with a tally of two wins and a defeat, and either side would go top of the fledgling table for a day at least with a win.
</p>

<p>
	“It has all the makings for a really expansive game,” Coleman told the official Stanley website. “Two attacking sides who will both expect to be up there in May.
</p>

<p>
	“We’ve got a good record at Notts County, we generally do better in the bigger stadiums. I know Kevin quite well and he’ll be setting his team up to go for the win.
</p>

<p>
	“They’re a big club in this league, maybe too big, but I believe we can go there and perform well. I’m looking forward to it and I’m sure that Kevin is.”
</p>

<p>
	Last season saw Stanley run out 2-0 winners in the corresponding fixture at Meadow Lane.

<p>
	Kevin Nolan has told his Notts County players to expect a tough game against Accrington Stanley at Meadow Lane tonight.
</p>

<p>
	The Magpies overcame a poor start in League Two this season to find themselves in a position where they can top the fledging league table with victory in this gameweek's first fixture.
</p>

<p>
	County's recent record against the Lancastrians, however, is far from impressive, with four defeats and two draws in the last six encounters.
</p>

<p>
	"I love football under the lights," Nolan told the official Notts site. "It's always a fantastic occasion but it won't be easy against Accrington - it never is.
</p>

<p>
	"They always pose a threat and have some really good players. Billy Kee has done it for years at this level and they have added well over the summer.
</p>

<p>
	"Kayden Jackson has four goals in his first five games and will be a major threat for them.
</p>

<p>
	"We had three deserved results last week which give us great confidence going into the game but we know if we don't match them for effort, enthusiasm and quality we will be in for a tough night."

<p>
	Notts County shirt sponsor Jake Bugg will play an intimate acoustic set at Meadow Lane next month in aid of Amnesty International.
</p>

<p>
	A new global concert series, called <a href="https://www.amnesty.org/en/latest/news/2017/06/give-a-home/" rel="external nofollow">Give a Home</a>, will take place on 20 September 2017 and will bring established and emerging artists together with refugees and local communities at over 300 shows in more than 60 countries around the world.
</p>

<p>
	One such show - in conjunction with Sofar Sounds - will see the Nottingham-born-and-bred singer-songwriter, whose stylised name will be on the front of County's shirts in November, performing at Meadow Lane on that day alongside a number of local artists.
</p>

<p>
	Notts commercial manager Simon Fotheringham told the official club site: "We couldn't be prouder to be selected as a venue for this amazing event. It's well documented that Jake's a huge Notts fan and the prospect of him playing a set here will be as exciting to him as it is to us.
</p>

<p>
	"We are also really pleased to be able to offer a number of tickets to refugees who take part in Notts County Football in the Community's collaboration with Amnesty International's Football Welcomes initiative, giving them the chance to be part of what should be a very memorable occasion."
</p>

<p>
	Sofar Sounds Nottingham leader Hannah Marsland added: "We are so incredibly excited to be hosting Jake Bugg on his home turf while raising money and awareness for Amnesty International to help those without a home. It promises to be a truly special night."
</p>

<p>
	To get the opportunity to see Jake Bugg live at Meadow Lane, you can try your luck at winning two tickets by clicking <a href="https://www.sofarsounds.com/giveahome/city/nottingham" target="_blank" rel="external nofollow">here</a> and applying before 10 September.

<p>
	Matt Tootle has described the atmosphere in the Notts County dressing room as the best he has ever experienced - but before Kevin Nolan came in, he says it was the worst.
</p>

<p>
	The Magpies began the year within touching distance of League Two's relegation places and on a losing run which would stretch to 10 games.
</p>

<p>
	However, since Alan Hardy came in as owner and Nolan followed, Notts rallied round, secured Football League safety, and could now go top of the fledging 2017/18 table with victory against Accrington Stanley.
</p>

<p>
	County go into Friday's game at Meadow Lane on the back of three successive wins and an impressive performance against Wycombe Wanderers where they won 4-2 at Adams Park.
</p>

<p>
	“It is the best atmosphere inside a dressing room I’ve experienced in my career,” Tootle told the Nottingham Post.
</p>

<p>
	“Before the gaffer came in it was the worst but he’s turned it upside down.
</p>

<p>
	“There are no cliques and we are all one group. And every lad who has come into the club during the summer has said that they’ve never come to a dressing room and been made to feel so comfortable.
</p>

<p>
	“Everybody is so welcoming and the lads are really enjoying coming into training. The lads are getting on like a house on fire.”

<p><img src="https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/uploads/monthly_2017_08/599ed96d37191_PONgroup-min.jpg.7cd3111613de0fadec90a5cff7bd315f.jpg" /></p>
<p>
	Since its creation in 2013, Pride of Nottingham has gone from strength to strength, and with us now in our fifth full season covering Notts County, we're delighted and perhaps even a bit surprised at how far we've come.
</p>

<p>
	We boast a thriving forum which is not far off breaking the four-figure mark in terms of members, with more than 5,000 topics and more than 70,000 posts and counting. Our website gets thousands of unique views per day and it's well past the million mark for article views. And our social media presence is close to 5,000 followers across the big three platforms Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
</p>

<p>
	Of course, we wouldn't be where we are now if it wasn't for you reading this now, and all you amazing people who read the articles, engage with the social media posts, chat on the forums, and contributed to our donation drive. A massive thank you for being part of this journey.
</p>

<p>
	Sure, there have been some tough times. The off-field problems at Notts over the last few years and poor form on the pitch were hard to take as fans, and just as difficult to report on as part of the site. Doing a match report on the club's 10th consecutive defeat in League Two is not easy, believe me. But we have never shirked from what we see as our duty in covering what needs to be covered, allowing people to give their opinions and, when possible, try to instil some optimism where it can be instilled.
</p>

<p>
	But with the club now on an upwards trajectory, with Alan Hardy at the helm, Kevin Nolan in charge of the first team, and a group of players that are giving the fans good football and positive results, it really makes it worthwhile to know that we've been there through thick and thin.
</p>

<p>
	Just as the club is looking up, so are we. At PON, we're always looking for improvement. We're not happy just treading water, we want to step up our game, produce even better and more regular content, and give you, the followers, an even better experience on the site and on social media.
</p>

<p>
	You may have seen the news recently of <a href="https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/home/news/pride-of-nottingham-announce-partnership-with-bettabytz-computers-r1708/" rel="">our partnership with Bettabytz Computers of Mapperley</a>, which is truly a fantastic opportunity for us, and we will also ensure that it is a fantastic opportunity for Kevin. This is exactly what we mean in terms of us stepping up our game.
</p>

<p>
	If you read the news and, as a business owner, thought that you would like to come on board with PON like Bettabytz Computers has, we are delighted to announce that we are looking to work with additional partners and sponsors.
</p>

<p>
	If you would like your company to be exposed to thousands of people of all ages and walks of life but who are all united through a love for Notts, and not just in Nottinghamshire but across England and even worldwide, then PON presents a fantastic opportunity for you to do so.
</p>

<p>
	We have a <a href="https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/advertising/" rel="">designated advertising page for you to check out</a>, which goes into further detail as to what makes working with PON such a great opportunity, and also what we will do for you, so <a href="https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/advertising/" rel="">don't hesitate to have a look</a>.
</p>

<p>
	At PON, our duty is to provide the best possible experience for our followers and associates, and so far, it's been an incredible journey, so why not join us on this journey and grow and prosper together?

<p>
	Kevin Nolan has acknowledged that some Notts County players may not be happy at missing out on the starting XI, but the important thing is their readiness to step in at a moment's notice.
</p>

<p>
	With a spate of signings being made in the close season, there is a lot of competition for places at Meadow Lane, with even the likes of Jorge Grant not having made the starting line-up in some games so far.
</p>

<p>
	However, Nolan stresses that each player will get game time this season, and to channel any omission from the matchday XI - or indeed matchday squad - positively.
</p>

<p>
	“There is a bit of anxiety there because the lads who were here last season, didn’t have that competition for places,” he told the Nottingham Post.
</p>

<p>
	“But I spoke to them about it and told them it’s healthy. Everybody in the squad is going to be needed at some point, so it’s not about going and kicking your mate in training because he plays in your position.
</p>

<p>
	“It’s making sure you are ready when your mate doesn’t get the nod. You can sulk, but as long as you are prepared to play.
</p>

<p>
	“The lads are all responding to that and I think the majority of the squad has had 90 minutes so far.
</p>

<p>
	“We’ve never had this kind of competition for places at the club. There has always been plenty of players but there’s never been a vision about how we want to go about creating it.
</p>

<p>
	“But the lads who are still here from last year have bought into it and so are the new players. Together as a squad we will be successful.”

	Kevin Nolan has stressed that he will not set his Notts County side to be a passing team for the hell of it, without the will to win and getting the basics right.
</p>

<p>
	With three wins on the spin in all competitions, the next test for the Magpies sees them host Accrington Stanley on Friday night.
</p>

<p>
	Nolan has <a href="https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/home/news/kevin-nolan-slams-ridiculous-ludicrous-claims-of-notts-county-being-a-route-one-team-r1719/" rel="">already hit out at those who claim the team is a "hoofball" outfit</a>, and insists that his philosophy is simply about getting the job done instead of showing off a high possession statistic.
</p>

<p>
	“The reason why Manchester United and Chelsea have 500 passes is because once they go 1-0, 2-0 up that’s when they start keeping the ball,” he told the Nottingham Post.
</p>

<p>
	“They move it quickly and you never see United just labour in possession. They put the ball in the right positions at the right times more often than not.
</p>

<p>
	"That’s why they get the success they do because they counter and they counter with pace. It’s something we haven’t got at the minute in terms of the pace, but it’s very hard to get that in this league.
</p>

<p>
	“(<a href="https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/home/news/pride-of-nottingham-to-sponsor-jonathan-forte-home-kit-for-201718-season-r1689/" rel="">Jonathan Forte</a>) has been brilliant in the last couple of games and made some great runs. We have that option, but we always want to play football in the right areas.
</p>

<p>
	“I’ve never been a manager who likes passing it for passing sake. There are managers out there who like to keep it, then look at the possession stats afterwards and say we kept it for 80 percent of the game.
</p>

<p>
	“But I’ve been involved in matches against United, Arsenal etc and they’ve had the ball 75 percent of the game, but we’ve won 1-0.
</p>

<p>
	“That’s the only stat that matters and that’s because we got it right defensively, and we did the basics right. So in that 25 percent possession, we’ve scored a goal.
</p>

<p>
	"Winning the game is more important than anything. The more you do it, the more confident you become. My philosophy is starting to sink in with the players, but we haven’t seen the best of these lads yet.”

<p><img src="https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/uploads/monthly_2017_08/599d4be445ad5_nolsmile-min.jpg.57e7725bc3ccd63f6b958f79431c0dd7.jpg" /></p>
<p>
	Kevin Nolan has hailed the "real togetherness" in the Notts County dressing room, saying all the players are now wearing the club badge with pride.
</p>

<p>
	The Magpies had a slow start to the 2017/18 season, falling to a heavy <a href="https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/home/reports/match-report-notts-county-undone-by-jodi-jones-inspired-coventry-city-r1671/" rel="">3-0 defeat</a> at Coventry City in the League Two opener.
</p>

<p>
	However, an improved display against <a href="https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/home/reports/match-report-notts-county-succumb-on-penalties-to-scunthorpe-united-in-league-cup-r1683/" rel="">Scunthorpe United</a> was followed up by wins against <a href="https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/home/reports/match-report-jorge-grant-brace-helps-notts-county-to-solid-win-over-chesterfield-r1695/" rel="">Chesterfield</a> and <a href="https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/home/reports/match-report-notts-county-see-off-everton-under-21s-in-checkatrade-trophy-r1706/" rel="">Everton Under-21s</a> at Meadow Lane.
</p>

<p>
	Against Wycombe Wanderers, meanwhile, Notts suffered adversity in losing a two-goal advantage but managed to overcome it to <a href="https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/home/reports/match-report-notts-county-battle-to-exhilarating-win-at-wycombe-wanderers-r1720/" rel="">clinch an impressive 4-2 win</a>.
</p>

<p>
	In terms of the transfer market, County brought in a slew of players to complement the ones who had already extended their deals with the club, and Nolan is happy with the dynamic in the squad.
</p>

<p>
	“The major thing for us in the summer was that we signed lads who wanted to come here and who wanted to come and play for this club,” Nolan told the Nottingham Post.
</p>

<p>
	“We wanted them to wear the club badge with pride and I think every one of them lads have got it now.
</p>

<p>
	“There is a real togetherness. When the fans see that they thrive off it, love it, and it makes it a great day out for them."

<p>
	<a href="https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/home/news/pride-of-nottingham-to-sponsor-jonathan-forte-home-kit-for-201718-season-r1689/" rel="">Jonathan Forte</a> believes he can get his scoring tally into double figures again this season if he is given game time for Notts County.
</p>

<p>
	The 31-year-old struck for the Magpies at Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday, helping his team edge back into the lead and eventually setting up the groundwork for a <a href="https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/home/reports/match-report-notts-county-battle-to-exhilarating-win-at-wycombe-wanderers-r1720/" rel="">4-2 win</a> at Adams Park.
</p>

<p>
	Forte also scored against <a href="https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/home/reports/match-report-notts-county-see-off-everton-under-21s-in-checkatrade-trophy-r1706/" rel="">Everton's Under-21s</a> in the Checkatrade Trophy and is now being urged by fans to start in County's game against Accrington Stanley this Friday.
</p>

<p>
	Notts manager Kevin Nolan spoke several times of having had a "frank discussion" with his player, which Forte himself corroborated, but he describes the talks as a good thing in terms of motivation.
</p>

<p>
	“The last few weeks have been tough, because you want to be in the team and think you should be in the starting 11,” he told the Nottingham Post.
</p>

<p>
	“But I think what has happened has been a good thing because it makes you want to push harder.
</p>

<p>
	“The be all and end all is being in the team on Saturday. I scored 10 goals last season and I believe I can reach that tally again.
</p>

<p>
	“If I get the chance then I am sure I can hit the double-figure mark. But it’s not all about goals, you just want the team to do well.”

<p><img src="https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/uploads/monthly_2017_08/KN-min(1).jpg.d926150f8600793231c538999a88881c.jpg" /></p>
<p>
	Kevin Nolan expects the Premier League vote to shut the summer transfer window before the start of a season to be unanimously in favour.
</p>

<p>
	The idea will be discussed at a shareholders' meeting next month and, with many top-flight clubs having either sold players or are still in the middle of transfer sagas, it is believed that most would prefer it to shut early.
</p>

<p>
	As present, the summer window shuts on 31 August, with clubs able to buy or sell from within England and overseas.
</p>

<p>
	Nolan told the Nottingham Post: “I think it was like that a few years ago (window closes before the season starts) but then lower league clubs were allowed to loan players from the Premier League.
</p>

<p>
	“That’s why they wanted it, because Premier League clubs could go 'right that’s our 25-man squad and these are the ones who can go out'.
</p>

<p>
	“At the minute, though, they don’t really know what’s happening in terms of who is going where.
</p>

<p>
	“You then get situations like Everton with Ross Barkley who has pulled his hamstring and is going to be out for six weeks.
</p>

<p>
	“There was lots of speculation about whether he would be going or staying but if the window had been shut two weeks ago, he could have gone.
</p>

<p>
	“Then you had the whole Sigurdsson thing going on which didn’t help Swansea manager Paul Clement.
</p>

<p>
	“There are pros and cons, but if I was a manager at Premier League level, if I knew my squad from day one then it would benefit me.
</p>

<p>
	“Down the leagues it doesn’t really make a difference unless somebody comes in for three of our players and they all end up going on the last day then you might see a different side of me.
</p>

<p>
	“But, at this moment in time, we did a lot of good business in the summer.
</p>

<p>
	“We’ve still got two weeks to think although this player did well for us in pre-season, this lad might need to go out and get some games.
</p>

<p>
	“So there are pros and cons all round, but I understand where Premier League managers are coming from. If there is that vote then I am sure it will be unanimous.”

<p>
	Wycombe Wanderers manager Gareth Ainsworth has described Notts County as a "big, strong and organised" team, but suggested that his side should have defended better and was caught out by a sucker punch in their <a href="https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/home/reports/match-report-notts-county-battle-to-exhilarating-win-at-wycombe-wanderers-r1720/" rel="">4-2 defeat</a> on Saturday.
</p>

<p>
	Richard Duffy, Jonathan Forte and Lewis Alessandra, plus an Adam El Abd own goal, netted for the Magpies at Adams Park, with the Chairboys fightback through goals from Nick Freeman and Joe Jacobson ultimately to no avail.
</p>

<p>
	Ainsworth told Bucks Free Press: "Fair play to County, they were big, strong and organised. We were missing a few key players.
</p>

<p>
	"It was disappointing and there are things to work on. I was pleased with our response in the second half after we couldn't get our foot on the ball in the first half.
</p>

<p>
	"After 70 minutes I was thinking there was only going to be one winner but we got done by a sucker punch.
</p>

<p>
	"I thought we gifted them a couple of goals and we can't do that at this level. The manner of the goals were are conceding is a concern. It isn't like we are getting torn apart with clever play."

<p>
	Notts County forward <a href="https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/home/news/pride-of-nottingham-to-sponsor-jonathan-forte-home-kit-for-201718-season-r1689/" rel="">Jonathan Forte</a> admits he is not happy with a role as an impact substitute, and that he wants to be starting for the Magpies.
</p>

<p>
	The 31-year-old came off the bench at Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday, just after Notts had relinquished a two-goal lead, and headed his side back in front.
</p>

<p>
	Forte also played a big part in the fourth, setting up the groundwork for Lewis Alessandra to strike as Notts came away from Adams Park with a <a href="https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/home/reports/match-report-notts-county-battle-to-exhilarating-win-at-wycombe-wanderers-r1720/" rel="">4-2 win</a>.
</p>

<p>
	The former three-time Notts loanee was omitted from the squad's <a href="https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/home/reports/match-report-notts-county-undone-by-jodi-jones-inspired-coventry-city-r1671/" rel="">3-0 defeat at Coventry City</a> in the opening League Two game of the season, with manager Kevin Nolan mentioning a "frank discussion" between the two.
</p>

<p>
	Forte told the official club site: "I don't want to be an impact substitute... I want to start.
</p>

<p>
	"The manager and I had a few words, some of which weren't nice, but that's football and I have to work hard to try and get back into the team.
</p>

<p>
	"I'm in my 30s now. I'm big and ugly enough to take what was said. We both spoke the truth and have put it past us to try and work together.
</p>

<p>
	"There are 46 games in a league season and everyone will play their part. When you get your chance you have to take it."

<p>
	Kevin Nolan has expressed his relief with Notts County clawing out a <a href="https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/home/reports/match-report-notts-county-battle-to-exhilarating-win-at-wycombe-wanderers-r1720/" rel="">4-2 win at Wycombe Wanderers</a> after being pegged back from a two-goal lead.
</p>

<p>
	A Richard Duffy header and an Adam El Abd own goal saw the Magpies head into the Adams Park dressing rooms at the break in an advantageous position.
</p>

<p>
	However, the Chairboys hit back through Nick Freeman and Joe Jacobson, only for <a href="https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/home/news/pride-of-nottingham-to-sponsor-jonathan-forte-home-kit-for-201718-season-r1689/" rel="">Jonathan Forte</a> and Lewis Alessandra to restore County's two-goal lead late on.
</p>

<p>
	“Relief is a big word because Gareth (Ainsworth, Wycombe boss) set his team up to come at us in the second half,” Nolan told the Nottingham Post.
</p>

<p>
	“We had deservedly taken in a half-time lead and I had said to the lads don’t go away from what you’re doing.
</p>

<p>
	“I feel that we did and we just started taking an extra touch on the ball. We were getting caught in possession and weren’t really putting it in the right areas.
</p>

<p>
	“That allowed them to get back into the game, but I had a pop at the linesman, for which I apologised after, because I felt there was an offside in the build-up to their second goal.
</p>

<p>
	“But overall to get the winning goals from the substitutes was fantastic.”

<p>
	Kevin Nolan is not impressed with those who suggest Notts County is a "route one" team, describing the claims as "ridiculous" and "ludicrous".
</p>

<p>
	The Magpies have won their last two games, but there has been some concern from fans who see the team's style of play as mere hoofball.
</p>

<p>
	“Once we start stamping our authority then we will only get better,” Nolan told the Nottingham Post in response.
</p>

<p>
	“We will get better going forward and we will show what a good footballing side we are.
</p>

<p>
	“I think we’ve been marked because we play Shola Ameobi and Jon Stead up front, but Shola never played in the Premier League and had balls lumped up to him.
</p>

<p>
	“On the floor he is one of the best in the league not just in my team so for people to start shouting that is ridiculous.
</p>

<p>
	“I like to play in the opponents half and I like to see good football and patient football. I don’t like to keep chucking the ball in and it being a battle every single time.
</p>

<p>
	“But if someone is under pressure, then put it in an area that is going to give our forwards or a winger an opportunity but hurt the opposition in the process.
</p>

<p>
	“If you are a centre-half what is the ball you hate? It’s not one coming on to your head, it’s one in behind.
</p>

<p>
	“It’s not about putting balls onto Jon Stead’s head because that’s not his game. A lot of people maybe thought his game was that.
</p>

<p>
	“For people to say that’s what we want to do is ludicrous.”

<p>
	Kevin Nolan claims Notts County are yet to hit their full potential this season, but is pleased that the last two games have been won despite this.
</p>

<p>
	Following a poor 3-0 loss to Coventry City in the League Two season opener, the Magpies put in a solid performance in the League Cup against Scunthorpe United, only losing on penalties.
</p>

<p>
	They then followed it up with victories over Chesterfield and Everton Under-21s, and Nolan believes there is more to come from his charges.
</p>

<p>
	“I feel in the last two games we have been worthy winners despite not reaching the heights I know we can,” he told the Nottingham Post.
</p>

<p>
	“It’s still early days and we have to be patient with these lads. They all believe they can get better and they know can get better.
</p>

<p>
	“That’s a great thing to have when you are winning games and you’re not really hitting your maximum with the ball.
</p>

<p>
	“Without the ball we are getting better and that’s being proven and that’s why teams are finding it difficult to create chances against us."

<p>
	Wycombe Wanderers manager Gareth Ainsworth has urged caution to his players ahead of a "big test" against Notts County on Saturday.
</p>

<p>
	The Magpies travel to Adams Park this weekend for a League Two encounter which will see Kevin Nolan's side try and earn a third win on the bounce in all competitions.
</p>

<p>
	"Notts County have got some real quality in their squad, and with Stead and Ameobi up front they bring with them Premier League experience which will be a big test," Ainsworth told the official Wycombe website.
</p>

<p>
	"But we've got more maturity in our back-four this season than we have had in years gone by and I think that will count for something.
</p>

<p>
	"They have also got some young talent; Jorge Grant is a very talented player, and he has scored three times already this season so he will be on the watch list and we need to keep those types of players quiet and we do well on that side of things.
</p>

<p>
	"Whether he starts or not is up to Kevin Nolan, and he (Nolan) comes here with a good record having come down here twice with two different teams and beaten us both times.
</p>

<p>
	"So we need to put that record to bed and get a result that is positive for Wycombe on Saturday, and I'm sure they'll be a good atmosphere as Notts County always travel well and my boys will be well up for it, as they always are."

<p>
	Ryan Yates has revealed that his decision to join Notts County on loan was mainly influenced by Kevin Nolan being manager at the club.
</p>

<p>
	The 19-year-old, who is on the books at Nottingham Forest, joined the Magpies for a season-long spell at the start of the season.
</p>

<p>
	Despite being tracked by a number of teams interested in his services, Yates decided to go for a loan move over the Trent.
</p>

<p>
	“First and foremost my decision to come here was because of Kevin Nolan being the manager,” he told the Nottingham Post.
</p>

<p>
	“That was the main reason. He has played in the Premier League and I’ve not really had that kind of person to learn from yet.
</p>

<p>
	“He was a central midfielder like me and a goalscorer. He had that leadership and is somebody I really look up to.
</p>

<p>
	“I remember watching all his goals thinking I want that to be me one day so it’s going to be really good experience for me.”
</p>

<p>
	Yates, who scored on his Notts debut against Scunthorpe United in the League Cup, also hailed the presence of other former Premier League players at Meadow Lane, such as Shola Ameobi, Jon Stead and Alan Smith.
</p>

<p>
	“At the start I was a bit in awe because I couldn’t believe I was training with all these types of players.
</p>

<p>
	“Being with the under-18s and the under-23s you don’t get that, so I am just trying to feed off their experience.
</p>

<p>
	“I am trying to take it all in because they are not always going to be around. Shola is always giving me advice so I am trying to take that information and learn every day.
</p>

<p>
	“These players have been there and done it, then dropped down the leagues."

<p>
	Kevin Nolan has stressed that Notts County cannot just focus on Adebayo Akinfenwa in Saturday's League Two trip to Wycombe Wanderers.
</p>

<p>
	The veteran striker is one of the biggest names in lower-league football due to his physique and is a difficult proposition for any opposition back line.
</p>

<p>
	He scored at Meadow Lane last season as the Chairboys won 2-0, though he failed to get off the mark in the reverse fixture, but Nolan insists Wycombe have other dangerous players in their front line.
</p>

<p>
	"To only focus on Akinfenwa does a disservice to Wycombe and the quality they put into the penalty area," he told the official club website.
</p>

<p>
	"They play to their strengths and stretch defences with Nathan Tyson and Paris Cowan-Hall up alongside Akinfenwa. They work well as a team.
</p>

<p>
	"It's not about them being reliant on one man because they still do well even when Akinfenwa doesn't.
</p>

<p>
	"Gareth Ainsworth has a good, solid unit there with players who are positive on the ball so it will be another tough test for us.
</p>

<p>
	"They have a number of threats but if we stop them and play to our own strengths we will hopefully have a good day on Saturday.
</p>

<p>
	"We did a good job on them last season; it was one of the best performances after I came in. Hopefully we can emulate that and be a bit more clinical in front of goal."
