	Notts County <a href="https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/home/reports/match-report-liam-noble-helps-notts-county-defeat-former-club-forest-green-rovers-r2510/" rel="">secured a hard-fought 2-1 win over Forest Green Rovers</a> on Saturday to keep them third in the League Two table.
</p>

<p>
	Liam Noble returned to haunt his former club, of which he was captain, with the opener for the Magpies after 34 minutes played at the New Lawn.
</p>

<p>
	Lewis Alessandra was brought down in the FGR box but the referee opted to play the advantage, which resulted in Noble rifling home before celebrating avidly in front of the Green Devils fans
</p>

<p>
	Although Tahvon Campbell - also playing against his former club - equalised in the second half, Matt Tootle had the final say with a drive past FGR goalkeeper Brad Collins, which meant the Slug celebration came out in all its glory.
</p>

<p>
	Relive the key moments from the match with the official Notts County YouTube highlights, which we have shared here on Pride of Nottingham for you.

<p>
	Notts County head to the New Lawn on Saturday to face Forest Green Rovers as they hope to remain in the top three of League Two.
</p>

<p>
	The Magpies leapfrogged Wycombe Wanderers to move into the automatic promotion slots with a <a href="https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/home/reports/match-report-notts-county-up-to-third-in-league-two-with-draw-at-cheltenham-town-r2496/" rel="">1-1 draw at Cheltenham Town on Tuesday night</a>.
</p>

<p>
	FGR will prove a stern test, however, as they have won their last five games on home turf to move seven points clear of the relegation zone.
</p>

<p>
	What are Forest Green's strengths, who are their key players, what kind of tactics will they use, and how should Notts counter them? <strong>Pride of Nottingham</strong>'s Chris takes a look in this Scouting Report.
</p>

<p>
	<strong><u>Head to head</u></strong>
</p>

<p>
	Notts County and Forest Green Rovers have met just twice in competitive action and the Green Devils have not beaten the Magpies yet.
</p>

<p>
	The first game came in the third round of the FA Cup on 19 January 2010, and it ended in a 2-1 win for the Magpies at Meadow Lane.
</p>

<p>
	This season is the first that both teams share the same league, and the reverse fixture on 7 October - also at the Lane - <a href="https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/home/reports/match-report-notts-county-leave-it-late-to-claim-draw-against-forest-green-rovers-r1920/" rel="">ended 1-1 with Rob Milsom scoring an injury-time leveller</a>.
</p>

<p>
	Saturday's game marks the first time that the Magpies head to FGR's home, the New Lawn Stadium.
</p>

<p>
	<u><strong>Run-down of their last six features</strong></u>
</p>

<p>
	Wednesday 31st January – Exeter City 2 Forest Green Rovers 0
</p>

<p>
	Saturday 3rd February – Forest Green Rovers 2 Coventry City 1
</p>

<p>
	Tuesday 13th February – Forest Green Rovers 3 Stevenage 1
</p>

<p>
	Saturday 17th February – Morecambe 1 Forest Green Rovers 1
</p>

<p>
	Saturday 24th February – Forest Green Rovers 2 Crawley Town 0
</p>

<p>
	Tuesday 6th March – Newport County 3 Forest Green Rovers 3
</p>

<p>
	<u><strong>The Players – Fact Sheet</strong></u>
</p>

<p>
	Highest Goal Scorers: Christian Doidge 21, Reuben Reid 3, Reece Brown 3 and Lee Collins 2.
</p>

<p>
	Persistent Foulers: Dale Bennett 7 yellow cards and 1 red card, Charlie Cooper 6 yellow cards and 1 red card, Lee Collins 5 yellow cards
</p>

<p>
	<u><strong>The Key Players</strong></u>
</p>

<p>
	Christian Doidge is a powerhouse who has a natural threat on goal, his crisp and calm finishing is lethal within League Two and the striker is extremely confident with moving forward with the ball showing no fear to shoot from distance.
</p>

<p>
	Reece Brown is also very influential in midfield, offering pace and skill when taking on the opposition players.
</p>

<p>
	<u><strong>Style of Play, Strengths, and Weaknesses</strong></u>
</p>

<p>
	Forest Green’s form has largely improved since we last met at Meadow Lane and so have their performances.
</p>

<p>
	On the ball they look to get forward by moving the ball around well, whilst coming back at times when no more ground can be gained via attacking directly.
</p>

<p>
	They also lump the ball quite a fair bit, especially when under pressure but are very content on the ball on the ground.
</p>

<p>
	In defence, the Green Devils can be quite sloppy and despite retaining organisation at the back – they fail to remain alert to danger.
</p>

<p>
	Opposition teams usually maximise their chances by the chaos caused by the FGR defence's panicking.
</p>

<p>
	Games do remain quite open even when they seem strong in possession, as they invite too much pressure on themselves by disconnected play.
</p>

<p>
	Their main threat is by their ability to work the ball well in tight areas, as they have several players capable of delivering useful balls, which teams tend to find difficult to attack – it’s clear that Forest Green practice within their training how to deliver balls against their counterparts.
</p>

<p>
	For Notts our midfield will need to be patient and careful when building, they’ll have to work hard and present creative chances for any opportunities to fall our way.
</p>

<p>
	Ensuring that the FGR defence are constantly troubled will create chances for the Magpies and set pieces seems something which we might be able to make use of.
</p>

<p>
	Overall Kevin Nolan shouldn’t get players to commit too deep, yet there must be a finer balance within the centre of the park – as the team that controls the game via the middle will get on top of the game.

	Notts County have moved into the top three of the League Two table thanks to a <a href="https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/home/reports/match-report-notts-county-up-to-third-in-league-two-with-draw-at-cheltenham-town-r2496/" rel="">1-1 draw at Cheltenham Town</a> on Tuesday night.
</p>

<p>
	Terry Hawridge was set up by Jon Stead for the opening goal of the night in the 42nd minute as Kevin Nolan's side led 1-0 at the break.
</p>

<p>
	They also had strong claims for a penalty waved away by referee Graham Horwood in the 17th minute when Stead was brought down by Scott Flinders.
</p>

<p>
	However, the Robins drew level through Joe Morrell's low shot from 25 yards deflecting off Ben Hall and beating the outstretched hand of Adam Collin on 67 minutes.
</p>

<p>
	In the latter stages, Brian Graham was denied by goalkeeper Adam Collin and Mohamed Eisa came close with a free kick in the 85th minute, but Notts held firm for a share of the spoils.
</p>

<p>
	Notts County have put up the official highlights - here they are should you wish to see them again.

<p>
	Notts County have got back on track in their League Two promotion tilt as Jorge Grant and Shola Ameobi scored to help secure a <a href="https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/home/reports/match-report-notts-county-back-on-track-with-victory-over-stevenage-r2466/" rel="">2-0 win over Stevenage</a> on Saturday.
</p>

<p>
	A gritty encounter at Meadow Lane saw the deadlock broken in the 77th minute as Grant rifled a volley into the bottom corner after the visitors had struggled to deal with a ball into the box.
</p>

<p>
	Ameobi then doubled the lead shortly afterwards when he bravely prodded in a header from Ben Hall to put the Magpies in control.
</p>

<p>
	The goals were enough to seal an important win for the Magpies, who are still in the thick of the promotion race, just a point outside the top three.
</p>

<p>
	How did the Notts contingent react to the win? Pride of Nottingham has compiled the key post-match reaction.
</p>

<p>
	<u><strong>Kevin Nolan</strong></u>
</p>

<p>
	"The players have found a way to win the game today and that is a fantastic trait to have.
</p>

<p>
	"It was never going to be smooth sailing and we have had performances where we have not hit the high notes of previous months.
</p>

<p>
	"But we have to start building back towards that and today was a clear sign that everyone is in it together. I thought our little bits of quality shone through."
</p>

<p>
	<u><strong>Adam Collin</strong></u>
</p>

<p>
	"That's our dream in the dressing room. The gaffer always asks for a clean sheet and three points. Everything clicked for us this afternoon, especially in the second half, and we came away deserved winners.
</p>

<p>
	"Stevenage are a handy team so we showed them a bit of respect and they played well - but we handled it really well, like we have done for most of the season, and the clean sheet proves that.
</p>

<p>
	"Teams at the top end of the league are going to drop points and we have had a bit of a sticky spell but confidence hasn't been knocked too much. We're a tight bunch in the dressing room and the gaffer looks after us."
</p>

<p>
	<u><strong>The Black &amp; White Army</strong></u>
</p>

<p>
	<u><strong>Chris</strong></u>
</p>

<p>
	Notts defended very little within the first half, we just pressed off Stevenage and a better team would have had a field day. I felt sorry for Collin for this reason, the amount of pressure being piled on and the amount of shots he saved it was a joke - he had no protection.
</p>

<p>
	Yes, his distribution at times should have been quicker but every time he did it would only come back to him.
</p>

<p>
	I do feel Ross Fitzsimons should now be given a go and if Ross does well, he should keep the starting place but if not - maybe some can be less harsher on him? Probably not but it seems unfair at times.
</p>

<p>
	Jorge Grant made a difference, he didn't play great but he shown that little bit of class that changes games.
</p>

<p>
	Once we scored we grew in confidence and we started to play better, I felt both teams overall performed very poorly and it wasn't the best match. Yet the result and three points are vital.
</p>

<p>
	<u><strong>Fan of Big Tone</strong></u>
</p>

<p>
	No it wasn't a great match but 3 points were very welcome, we need to up our performance against Mansfield though because they are in good form at the moment and will be up for it. I wish the fans wouldn't be so quick to get on Collin's back, I really don't think it will help his game to hear the criticism at the match.
</p>

<p>
	I thought Jorge when he came on looked really back to something like his best, it seemed to give the whole team a lift.
</p>

<p>
	<u><strong>Upthepies</strong></u>
</p>

<p>
	We lacked pace, the defending was awful. The game was screaming out a 0-0 draw but the goal Grant scored completely changed the outcome.
</p>

<p>
	More focus on creating chances and taking responsibility at the back is required. Good win mind.
</p>

<p>
	<u><strong>Andrew Rayson </strong></u>
</p>

<p>
	Well done Notts; from a realistic fan who only gives out praise when warranted and also criticises when deserved, (otherwise labeled as a “moaner” or “doomster” by the ass-kissing (only praise allowed, critical and honest opinions banned) so called “fans”.
</p>

<p>
	<u><strong>Jimmy Gee </strong></u>
</p>

<p>
	Similar to some matches of the first half of the season. Notts kept going and scored a vital goal which was the game changer. After that confidence returned to the team. Massive three points. COYPs.

</p>

<p>
	The Magpies laboured throughout the game but went on to open the scoring 13 minutes from the end.
</p>

<p>
	It came from the refreshed Jorge Grant, on as a substitute, as he struck a superb volley into the bottom corner of the net after the visitors had struggled to deal with Richard Duffy's ball into the box.
</p>

<p>
	The second goal came just two minutes later as Shola Ameobi bravely prodded in a header from Ben Hall, getting a knock for his troubles although he was fine to continue.
</p>

<p>
	The result sees the Magpies climb to fourth in the table and narrow the gap between themselves and third-placed Wycombe Wanderers to one point.

<p>
	Notts County have suffered another huge blow in their automatic promotion hopes as Cambridge United ran out <a href="https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/home/reports/match-report-notts-county-stumble-once-again-as-cambridge-united-claim-all-three-points-at-abbey-stadium-r2453/" rel="">1-0 winners</a> in their League Two clash at the Abbey Stadium.
</p>

<p>
	Medy Elito scored the winner for the hosts in the 30th minute to continue their good form since the departure of manager Shaun Derry with a third win in a row, while for Notts it's a fourth league defeat in 2018.
</p>

<p>
	What was the reaction to the match from Kevin Nolan and from the Black and White Army? Pride of Nottingham takes a closer look.
</p>

<p>
	<u><strong>Kevin Nolan</strong></u>
</p>

<p>
	"I'm deeply disappointed because I thought we were starting to get back to where we were and I feel we have come away from that today.
</p>

<p>
	"There wasn't much in the game but we didn't deal with Uche Ikpeazu well at all tonight. We looked at their strengths and we didn't deal with any of them and we didn't do anything to exploit their weaknesses.
</p>

<p>
	"I have said to the lads we have another quick turnaround and another big game on Saturday where we have to get three points."
</p>

<p>
	<u><strong>The Black &amp; White Army (PON forum and social media)</strong></u>
</p>

<p>
	<strong>Northants Pie:</strong> I think we should just settle for the mid table finish that we are hurtling towards. Dissapointing given our start to the season but we were found out around the end of November and have only managed to get worse since. This squad nearly got relegated for a reason, we need another relatively large scale squad change in the summer to ensure we get a more dynamic defense and a more dynamic front line.
</p>

<p>
	<strong>Chris:</strong> It's disappointing because you can see that they don't have the fight anymore, fans are telling the passion is gone and I'm seeing a lot of comments which fall inside with this feeling. I don't care where we finish, provided we fight. Nile Ranger would ruin us and all our progress, but we need someone up top.It's hard, but we lost one nil to a team that by the stats played much better. Oh well. <img alt=":(" data-emoticon="1" height="20" src="https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/uploads/emoticons/default_sad.png" srcset="https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/uploads/emoticons/sad@2x.png 2x" title=":(" width="20" loading="lazy">
</p>

<p>
	<strong>Alex West: </strong>Nolan needs to seriously look at himself in the mirror. Disgusting performance not even one shot on target. Well finish bottom half at this rate not alone the play offs. Seriously bottling it
</p>

<p>
	<strong>Stephen Jeffery:</strong> Bubble has well and truly burst, nice while it lasted but league 2 football is best we can offer, dream on Alan if you think championship
</p>

<p>
	<strong>Martin Smith:</strong> What do you think Nolan will say. The lads weren't up for it tonight thought we played better second half etc. Ffs 4 4 2 Nolan us fans do know a bit about football. I know we've come a long way and building for the future but come on do our players know what a goal looks like after tonight's stats. Saying all this I will be there in Saturday hoping for a better performance and a goal or two. Coyps
</p>

<p>
	<strong>Martyn Malone:</strong> PISSED OFF BIG TIME ???????????? This is what happens when you don't get players in the transfer window not just that something is not right players don't just stop playing like Notts have over the last 7 weeks if it's not sorted asap mid table then no playoffs for HARDY like he wants
</p>

<p>
	<strong>Adrian Wheatley:</strong> Grant poor again think he needs a rest for a bit playing like hes not interested at the end of the day he will hi tail over the river at the end of the season. Play our players who have it all to play for
</p>

<p>
	<strong>Mike Adams:</strong> 4 shots on target and no goals in the last 3 away league games-players arguing with players, players arguing with manager and players arguing with fans-talk to someone who was at Barnet or Cambridge if you want to know what’s happening at this club

<p><img src="https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/uploads/monthly_2018_02/hateleys.jpg.f424927c55e0205d693c6b9aec01ac81.jpg" /></p>
<p>
	Mark Hateley has spoken of how his father, Notts County legend Tony Hateley, was instrumental in immersing him in the world of football, and how the 56-year-old made sure to do the same with son Tom, now also a professional footballer.
</p>

<p>
	The Hateley dynasty of pro players stretches three generations, with Tony impressing at a number of clubs besides Notts, including Aston Villa and Liverpool, where he remains just as loved as he is at Meadow Lane.
</p>

<p>
	Son Mark, meanwhile, won 32 caps for England and scored plenty of goals for the likes of AC Milan, Monaco, Rangers, Queens Park Rangers, Portsmouth and Coventry City.
</p>

<p>
	Now, Tom is currently enjoying a career as a pro footballer, having enjoyed stints at Motherwell and Dundee, plus a spell in Poland with Slask Wroclaw.
</p>

<p>
	“My dad would take me into the dressing rooms and all that sort of stuff before and after games, and took me to watch games,” Mark told Herald Scotland.
</p>

<p>
	“He had me in and around the training ground too, watching the attitudes of players, and I tried to do the same with Tom, and made sure he was aware of what was happening.
</p>

<p>
	“I thought it would be good for him to see the reaction of players after winning and losing, and basically making him comfortable in that environment, just as I had become comfortable in it through my father.
</p>

<p>
	 “The standards I saw through my dad stuck with me throughout my whole career. It stands you in such good stead. I saw grown men fighting in training, the half-time punch-ups and all that stuff. You see situations after games and how much it means to people.
</p>

<p>
	“It’s beyond a game of football, it introduces the grown-up world. That’s where I had an advantage, because I had experienced all of that before I got to the stage of being an apprentice or a professional football. Tom had the same experience.”

<p>
	Notts County were held to a <a href="https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/home/reports/match-report-notts-county-held-to-stalemate-at-newport-county-r2442/" rel="">goalless draw</a> in Saturday's League Two match away at Newport County.
</p>

<p>
	The Magpies were forced to settle for a share of the spoils at Rodney Parade in a game of few clear-cut chances.
</p>

<p>
	Notts were more dangerous than their opponents, with Lewis Alessandra and Jon Stead both going close, but neither side could find a breakthrough in South Wales.
</p>

<p>
	Here is a compilation from the key post-match reaction from boss Kevin Nolan, defender Carl Dickinson, and as always the Black &amp; White Army commenting on Pride of Nottingham!
</p>

<p>
	<u><strong>Kevin Nolan</strong></u>
</p>

<p>
	"You have to respect the point. It was a difficult game on a difficult pitch in difficult conditions but I thought the lads handled it well and we looked rock solid defensively.
</p>

<p>
	"We needed a bit more patience and quality in the final third to take three points.
</p>

<p>
	"But we've taken four points from our last two games, which I am really positive about, and I'm looking forward to another tough game at Cambridge on Tuesday.
</p>

<p>
	"I'm delighted with the point and clean sheet - it had been a while - but we have to build on it now. If we continue to keep clean sheets it will give us an opportunity to get a lot of points on the board."
</p>

<p>
	<u><strong>Carl Dickinson</strong></u>
</p>

<p>
	"It wasn't the prettiest of games to play in but we dealt with everything they threw at us really well.
</p>

<p>
	"We looked comfortable and I thought if any team was going to score it was going to be us.
</p>

<p>
	"We've got a point and clean sheet away from home so we will take that and now look forward to Cambridge on Tuesday.
</p>

<p>
	"We need to make sure we keep as many clean sheets as possible in the final 13 games of the season because it will only help us.
</p>

<p>
	"We have to make sure we keep our heads down, work as hard as possible and do the basics well. If we do that I am sure we will win more games than we lose."
</p>

<p>
	<u><strong>The Black &amp; White Army</strong></u>
</p>

<p>
	<strong>TheSkipper:</strong> Two scrappy teams which neither side was able to put in a proper performance. I think from the Notts perspective this is my biggest worry the fact we are woeful and lack that finishing required to win games. Stead missed a few good chances yesterday.
</p>

<p>
	<strong>Peter Chalkley:</strong> If we don’t go up it won’t be through bottling it as such, it will because we just aren’t quite good enough. If we aren’t good enough I’d prefer not to go up. Without major overhaul we would be easy picking playing ugly football in league one and crowds would soon fall again. We need to get promoted on the back of players who we can keep next year, losing Yates may well be a blessing.
</p>

<p>
	<strong>Nick Norman:</strong> I've been a season ticket holder for a very long time but I'm sick of a team that starts a season well then bottles it and Nolans tatics are becoming awful. We were lucky Tuesday. Players season after season not good enough. I won't be buying a season ticket next season to watch league 2 shite. Look at Accrington. Crap budget but got the right players. We got over paid clowns.
</p>

<p>
	<strong>Phil Buxton: </strong>Any team celebrating a point at lowly Newport are not promotion hopefuls. Love Alan HARDY (Absolutely)Love Kevin Nolan (Absolutely) Love NCFC (Absolutely). Love a new STRIKER. (Absolutely) Act now or we will fall short of our expectations. COYP.
</p>

<p>
	<strong>Peter Chalkley:</strong> I think people confuse ambition and financial suicide. We’ve had a great little cup run and will lose about £600k rather than £1mill this year. I don’t know who people thought we would get but we are short a central defender and a stringer still, tag on a fee or two and £15k a week minimum in a wages between them and you would need to guarantee promotion and big crowds to not be in trouble for next season. We’ve just seen what an injury can do to a January signing. It’s a real shame the season started so far and then faulted. Had we got to this stage without all the weeks top two we’d have been over the moon!

	Notts County were held to a <a href="https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/home/reports/match-report-notts-county-held-to-stalemate-at-newport-county-r2442/" rel="">goalless draw</a> in Saturday's League Two match away at Newport County.
</p>

<p>
	The Magpies were forced to settle for a goalless draw at Rodney Parade in a game of few clear cut chances.
</p>

<p>
	Notts were more dangerous than their opponents, with Lewis Alessandra and Jon Stead both going close, but neither side could find a breakthrough in South Wales.
</p>

<p>
	How did the game pan out from a tactical perspective? Pride of Nottingham's Chris takes a look with this weekend's Tactical Talk.
</p>

<p>
	<u><strong>Was the result fair?</strong></u>
</p>

<p>
	Both teams struggled to get a grip of the game, however if chances had been taken, Notts could have won and a goal may have changed the entire game forcing both sides to attack. Yet the game wasn’t that entertaining and the 0-0 seems fair.
</p>

<p>
	<u><strong>How did Notts play?</strong></u>
</p>

<p>
	By all accounts it sounded scrappy and not a direct result of the pitch – more a lack of application. Notts simply didn’t create chances very well enough and the performance does leave some questions about how we can improve away from home. The midfield lost the battle, never really connected play and overall it was a quiet performance by Notts.
</p>

<p>
	<u><strong>How did Newport play?</strong></u>
</p>

<p>
	Very similar to Notts bar the more physical approach to the game. They looked woeful on goal and scrappy at the back, their midfield did well, moving the ball into dangerous areas, but they never seemed sure how best to distribute the ball. Overall, they didn’t apply themselves well either.
</p>

<p>
	<u><strong>Did our tactics work out?</strong></u>
</p>

<p>
	It’s hard to tell, if we aimed to cancel out Newport and never attack them in a way which would ask questions of their defence, I guess so. However, I think there were yet again questions over the starting line-up.
</p>

<p>
	<u><strong>How did the referee perform?</strong></u>
</p>

<p>
	The performance of the match officials wasn’t an issue yesterday, a good call to disallow Newport’s goal – overall pretty decent for League Two.
</p>

<p>
	<u><strong>Who do we play next?</strong></u>
</p>

<p>
	Next up Cambridge United – the departure of Shaun Derry seems to have hit them at a time whereby they’re making a transitional switch and it’s hard to see what U’s team will turn up.
</p>

<p>
	<u><strong>How should we play them?</strong></u>
</p>

<p>
	I want to see two strikers start both home and away games, I think the only time one is warranted is away from home when the opposition team we face is much stronger than us across the park.
</p>

<p>
	Cambridge United aren’t this team in my opinion and if we focus on playing football we should be able to do well.
</p>

<p>
	It’s all down to performance and ensuring that the starting line-up can get the job done from the off, so we need to see some flair and creativity from the midfield.
</p>

<p>
	With two strikers it would make life naturally much harder for Cambridge United, yet we need to make movement – players must drift into areas whereby we can move forward and the type of chances we create must ask questions.
</p>

<p>
	Naturally our midfield needs to be stronger, this is the type of game whereby a player such Liam Noble would be useful – however, I don't think he has proven why we chased or became obsessed over him this season.
</p>

<p>
	Yet he could be the type of player that could drive the squad forward, it would be nice if he could lead the midfield but I think Elliot Hewitt is more likely to run himself into the ground.
</p>

<p>
	Just smart play, where we work as a team. I think in recent performances we rely too much on forcing play and lack the team work which has given us good results.
</p>

<p>
	We are very capable of playing football, so remove the pressure from ourselves and just become expressive on the pitch – try to enjoy your football lads, maybe we will then?
</p>

<p>
	<u><strong>Newport County fan reaction (from <a href="http://www.weareexiles.net/viewtopic.php?f=1&amp;t=45949&amp;start=75" rel="external nofollow">weareexiles.net</a>)</strong></u>
</p>

<p>
	<strong>Stan A Einstein:</strong> I'll be honest I thought we'd be better today but lose 1-0. We are now 20 points clear of relegation with 13 games remaining. Realistically we are not going to make the play-offs. Perhaps time for Flynn to experiment, tell his team to go for it, especially at home?
</p>

<p>
	<strong>Exile 1976:</strong> Team worked hard today, I thought we were unlucky with the disallowed goal. Labadie was excellent, Day &amp; back 5 very good. I thought Marlon had a decent cameo too. A point stops the rot. On to the next game.
</p>

<p>
	<strong>Confuddled: </strong>I thought [Marlon Jackson] was fairly decent. Won most things in the air. However, that team was completely void of any creativity. I think we work our front two harder than any team in this league. Defensively the team was solid. But our game plan was to thump the ball down the channels as soon as possible. Get the front two running all day. Hopefully we will get a throw in and long throw but that is pretty much our entire offensive threat. Now considering our recent form and who we were playing I can accept that. Stop the rut. Be solid and use this game as a springboard to get some form back.
</p>

<p>
	<strong>Bush:</strong> Thought the defence played well after a shaky start which was maninly down to O'Brien playing like someone with a lack of match practice. Second half O'Brien was really good. My MOM. We have to keep that back 3 together as much as possible although I noticed a slight change today and O'Brien played on the white and white in the middle which was other way around the times I saw them together this season.
</p>

<p>
	Notts County travel to Newport County on Saturday on the back of a victory against Carlisle United which provided much relief to the club's contingent and fans, keeping the Magpies in the playoff places.
</p>

<p>
	The Exiles are much improved this term compared to previous seasons but go into this game having lost their last three in League Two.
</p>

<p>
	Pride of Nottingham takes a closer look at Newport's form, key players and tactics in this weekend's Scouting Report.
</p>

<p>
	<u><strong>Head to head</strong></u>
</p>

<p>
	Notts have met Newport 49 times in competitive action: 26 games have been won by the Magpies, 14 by the Exiles, and there have been 9 draws.
</p>

<p>
	Newport won this fixture 2-1 at the tail end of last season, which saw the Exiles survive in the Football League by the skin of their teeth and prompted a pitch invasion at Rodney Parade.
</p>

<p>
	They haven't beaten Notts in consecutive home matches in the Football League since March 1971.
</p>

<p>
	The Magpies have only failed to score once in their last 14 meetings with the Exiles in all competitions, netting 30 goals in those matches.
</p>

<p>
	<u><strong>Run-down of their last six features</strong></u>
</p>

<p>
	Saturday 13th January – Grimsby Town 1 Newport County 2
</p>

<p>
	Friday 19th January – Newport County 2 Crawley Town 1
</p>

<p>
	Tuesday 23rd January – Newport County 1 Morecambe 1
</p>

<p>
	Tuesday 30th January – Lincoln City 3 Newport County 1
</p>

<p>
	Saturday 3rd February – Colchester United 2 Newport County 0
</p>

<p>
	Tuesday 13th February – Mansfield Town 5 Newport County 0
</p>

<p>
	<u><strong>The Players – Fact Sheet</strong></u>
</p>

<p>
	Highest Goalscorers: Padraig Amond 11, Shawn McCoulsky 11, Frank Nouble 8 and Joss Labadie 6.
</p>

<p>
	Persistent Foulers: Joss Labadie 10 yellow cards and 1 red card, Frank Nouble 9 yellow cards, Ben White 7 yellow cards and Matthew Dolan 6 yellow cards.
</p>

<p>
	<u><strong>The Key Players</strong></u>
</p>

<p>
	Former Notts midfielder Joss Labadie has been influential in Newport County’s midfield, providing assists and attacking support, and also goals to his own tally.
</p>

<p>
	On his day he can be a force to be reckoned with and he’s one of those players in League Two who can be considered a game changer.
</p>

<p>
	In attack, they have three very attacking minded players in Frank Nouble, Padraig Amond and Shawn McCoulsky – the latter being a player who causes many headaches for his counterparts' defence.
</p>

<p>
	Ben White is also a tricky player who likes to get forward and frequently challenges his rivals with a mix basic skill and hard work.
</p>

<p>
	<u><strong>Style of Play, Strengths, and Weaknesses</strong></u>
</p>

<p>
	The Exiles are one of those teams you can’t just predict how they will play, but looking at their form and goals conceded you would have to fancy our chances on the day, provided Kevin Nolan’s men put in a true performance of their ability.
</p>

<p>
	At the back they’re very dodgy, a mix of poor zonal marking and a lack of applications means they are often punished by school boy errors at the back.
</p>

<p>
	On the ball, they are comfortable in possession and can make good use of it.
</p>

<p>
	However, they do tend to be wasteful and a lack of confidence is a major knock towards how they play or even express themselves on a pitch.
</p>

<p>
	If their opposition scores early or dominates the game, they generally struggle – yet hard work can often see them claw themselves back into games.
</p>

<p>
	It does look like their poor form is mostly down to the sheer amount of goals conceded, so it would appear likely that Notts could cause further problems by ensuring they break carefully and take any chances that present themselves on goal.
</p>

<p>
	As I say, defensively Newport do not look like a very good team and if we can bypass their physical side we should do well.
</p>

<p>
	The key would be to keep the ball moving promptly, whilst making good movement in and around their back four.
</p>

<p>
	Any chances from free-kicks must be used wisely and, I can see an effort easily going in if a chance presents itself – the Exiles keeper seems prone to missing saves from the top right corner.
</p>

<p>
	Notts must be strong in possession and, ensure that they play with strength in numbers but must avoid losing concentration at the back.
</p>

<p>
	Provided our defence and keeper do their jobs, it should be fairly straight forward but much of this will come down to how Kevin Nolan’s men play.
</p>

<p>
	There should be too many changes, and certainly 4-4-2 would give Notts some comfort, yet I would avoid isolating the front by using one striker – as they will play into the hands of Newport’s style of play which is common for League Two.
</p>

<p>
	Hello and welcome to episode 41 of the Pride of Nottingham PONcast, presented as always by Chris and JJ.
</p>

<p>
	In this week's episode we discuss Notts County's League Two win over Carlisle United, with a look at both the tactics used in the game and the significance of bouncing back from the previous week's defeats.
</p>

<p>
	We then move on to the hammering at Swansea City in the FA Cup and the loss at League Two bottom side Barnet, looking at where the Magpies went wrong.
</p>

<p>
	In addition we discuss Kevin Nolan's post-match interview after the Bees clash and whether it was justified and indeed yielded rewards in the following game, or whether he just lost his cool.
</p>

<p>
	All this and more only in episode 41 of the Pride of Nottingham PONcast!

	Notts County returned to winning ways with a hard-fought <a href="https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/home/reports/match-report-notts-county-survive-scare-to-beat-carlisle-united-r2424/" rel="">2-1 win over Carlisle United</a> on Tuesday night.
</p>

<p>
	Jon Stead put the Magpies ahead in the 19th minute when he collected a pass from Lewis Alessandra and fired a goalward effort which hit Cumbrians goalkeeper Jack Bonham and looped into the net.
</p>

<p>
	The veteran striker then doubled County's lead in the 35th minute when he reacted quickest during a goalmouth scramble and saw his effort rebound off a player back onto him and then into the goal.
</p>

<p>
	Carlisle went on to make it a nervy finish through a deflected Jamie Devitt strike after the break and an inexplicable seven minutes of injury time, but Notts saw the game out for all three points.

<p>
	Notts County have bounced back from their horror week with a hard-fought <a href="https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/home/reports/match-report-notts-county-survive-scare-to-beat-carlisle-united-r2424/" rel="">2-1 win over Carlisle United</a> on Tuesday night.
</p>

<p>
	Jon Stead put the Magpies ahead in the 19th minute when he collected a pass from Lewis Alessandra and fired a goalward effort which hit Cumbrians goalkeeper Jack Bonham and looped into the net.
</p>

<p>
	The veteran striker then doubled County's lead in the 35th minute when he reacted quickest during an almighty goalmouth scramble.
</p>

<p>
	Carlisle went on to make it a nervy finish through a deflected Jamie Devitt strike after the break and an inexplicable seven minutes of injury time.
</p>

<p>
	The result keeps Notts fourth in the League Two table and snapping at the heels of the top three while keeping the chasing pack at bay.
</p>

<p>
	How did Notts boss Kevin Nolan, his players, and the Black and White Army react to the result? Here is Pride of Nottingham's post-match reaction compilation.
</p>

<p>
	<u><strong>Kevin Nolan</strong></u>
</p>

<p>
	"That was the performance and response I was looking for. I thought the lads were back to their usual selves.
</p>

<p>
	"I'm not relieved because I always believed in the squad and I trust them. I'm satisfied and glad they have shown what they can do.
</p>

<p>
	"You knew Carlisle would throw everything at us and the way the lads went about it meant they were well-deserving of the victory. I am delighted for each and every one of them.
</p>

<p>
	"We could have finished them off with the chances we created and it would have been an easier night if we were a bit more clinical. Overall they were absolutely brilliant."
</p>

<p>
	<u><strong>Jon Stead</strong></u>
</p>

<p>
	"A few lads have been feeling under the weather but we did what we needed to do, which was to get the three points and get back on track.
</p>

<p>
	"With the demands we put on each other as players, we knew we were miles off it against Barnet and we were very disappointed with the way things went and we had to put things right. It's been a difficult period for us but we ground out a result.
</p>

<p>
	"We got early goals and then saw it out, put bodies on the line and had some last-ditch defending which is everything you want when questions are being asked of you and you have to show a bit of character.
</p>

<p>
	"I feel like we could have killed them off with a third goal and it would have made things a little bit easier but it was a battling performance and three points, which is what we needed.”
</p>

<p>
	<u><strong>The Black and White Army</strong></u>
</p>

<p>
	<strong>Dave Woolley:</strong> If they play like they played 2nd half last night they won’t get much out of the game. Every clearance, every throw in, every kick from the Collin went straight to their player and created pressure. If Kevin doesn’t sort it and If Duffy can’t see it on the pitch we won’t get back on the winning trail. I was expecting Carlisle to grab an equaliser at any time. What a contrast form a great 1st half.
</p>

<p>
	<strong>Thomas Ross:</strong> Great to be back on the winners list. Appears that Super Kev’s kick up the arse after Saturday worked. Looking forward to Newport on Saturday #YouPies
</p>

<p>
	<strong>Michael Doroszenko:</strong> Don't care how many goals we scored as long as it's more than the other buggers. Let's hope that this will get us back on track and bring back some belief that yes the boys can do this coyp
</p>

<p>
	<strong>David Burkey:</strong> After the pasting they have had from Swansea and some supporters, the disappointment of Saturday, last night was going to be a huge test of character . We got through it so now we move onwards and upwards ..coyp
</p>

<p>
	<strong>Jay Dalton:</strong> sat back 2 nd half but brilliant defence and collin was impressive the fight back and spirit in the notts team is back the pre match warm up with crosses shown they are capable of scoring and threatening up front it paid off stead again on form coyp Nolan's super notts black white army
</p>

<p>
	<strong>Andrew Rayson:</strong> Well done tonight Notts, but tonight will count for nothing if you don’t back it up against Newport on Saturday and again against whoever we’ve got after them.
</p>

<p>
	<strong>Peter Hastings:</strong> First half convincing but we are worst enemies we need to see off teams the league is to tight we can't afford to slip up now
</p>

<p>
	<strong>Tim Johnson:</strong> Hard work but a decent performance, specially considering there's been a flu bug around the squad.
</p>

<p>
	Today, 12 February 2019, marks 25 years since the last time Notts County met Nottingham Forest in the league, and more crucially, the last time the Magpies beat the Reds.
</p>

<p>
	Christened Sir Charlie Palmer Day, the result in that Division One (that's second tier for all you young'uns) game at Meadow Lane was 2-1 to Notts, with the winner coming just four minutes of time through Charlie Palmer.
</p>

<p>
	Magpies star Gary McSwegan opened the scoring in the 55th minute after tricking his way past Steve Chettle, cutting inside Colin Cooper and slotting into the bottom corner.
</p>

<p>
	With just six minutes to go, Forest pulled a goal back through David Phillips, but just over a minute later, a twice-taken free kick from Mark Draper fell kindly to Palmer, who nodded home to claim the win (and a Notts knighthood).
</p>

<p>
	Incredibly, it was his first goal for two seasons and his first league strike since 1990, making it extra sweet for him. He ran almost the length of pitch in celebration.
</p>

<p>
	Speaking to The Pie in 2001, Palmer recalled the goal: "After the free kick was awarded I made my way into the box. I gave Drapes a quick glance, indicating where I wanted to put the ball.
</p>

<p>
	"After the referee ordered us to retake the kick I just walked back, without looking at Drapes. Instinctively I just attacked the space and managed to get ahead of Pearce. I knew it was in as soon as it left my head.
</p>

<p>
	"All I can remember thinking was how I had managed to out jump Pearcy. Before I knew it I was running down the touchline with my arms doing all sorts of things. To be honest it was probably a release of some frustration, as the things had turned a bit sour for me at Notts.
</p>

<p>
	"Not being from Nottingham, I did not realise the enormity of the goal until I met up with some of the other players on the following Monday. A lot of the younger players (Drapes, Tommy etc) were full of stories about going out on the Saturday and having drinks bought for them all night. They could not understand why I had gone home straight after the game!"
</p>

<p>
	Here is the goal in all its glory - happy Sir Charlie Palmer Day everyone!
</p>

<p>
	Notts County put in arguably one of the worst performances of the season on Saturday as they fell to a <a href="https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/home/reports/match-report-notts-county-struck-down-at-the-death-as-barnet-claim-late-win-r2414/" rel="">1-0 defeat at Barnet</a>.
</p>

<p>
	The League Two's basement side more than matched their opponents for the majority of the game at the Hive Stadium before grabbing the winner in injury time.
</p>

<p>
	A lump upfield by goalkeeper Craig Ross bounced kindly for Alex Nicholls, who raced onto the ball, got the better of his markets and lashed home past Adam Collin to give the Bees all three points.
</p>

<p>
	The result leaves the Magpies fourth in the table, two points behind third-placed Wycombe Wanderers and just four points ahead of eighth-placed Lincoln City.
</p>

<p>
	What was the reaction to the game? Pride of Nottingham has compiled some of the key post-match reaction.
</p>

<p>
	<u><strong>Kevin Nolan</strong></u>
</p>

<p>
	"We were totally poor. We couldn't pass the ball to one another today. I told them that after the game and I cannot protect them because that performance is not good enough for me.
</p>

<p>
	"We didn't work the goalkeeper well enough. They have got to buck their ideas up quickly or we will have more afternoons like that.
</p>

<p>
	"The amount of pressure they put on us was minimal. They didn't allow us to play and fair play to Barnet. They are going to scrap because they're bottom of the league and they need to win games.
</p>

<p>
	"When we have so many fans here sitting in those conditions, they deserve to have a go at us because the performance is not acceptable by the standards we have set ourselves."
</p>

<p>
	<u><strong>The Black &amp; White Army on the PON forum and social media</strong></u>
</p>

<p>
	<strong>Liampie:</strong>
</p>

<p>
	i dont think we should overreact we only lost 1-0. i do think the players need to improve and kn needs to accept his part in this. people have said that he does not change things and theres no accountability during games, first half sounded dire but kn waits until half time to try and address it? i just think its disappointing. we have the ability to gain promotion and the inner fighting is leading to the instability imo.
</p>

<p>
	<strong>ARLukomski:</strong>
</p>

<p>
	All started with that formation change against Exeter. Lost. Stook without it against Crawley. Lost again. Oh yeah then we play 4-4-2 against Swansea and we play well. What a surprise. Then we beat Crewe with 4-4-2 and it’s all looking good but no. A normal team bows out with pride like Newport did but no. Absolutely not. We get ripped apart against Swansea 8-1. It’s not acceptable to lose 8-1 at any level whether it’s Sunday League or Premier League. Another change of formation this time to 4-4-1-1 in which we gave a performance where we did not look bothered. Not one bit. On tv, against a Premier League side. How do you not get motivated for that? Then today. We used the right formation but by the sounds, we didn’t turn up yet again and we took the opposition lightly like we did against Oxford City and Crawley. We constantly hoof it when Nolan clearly knows we play better when we play it on the ground. Defenders constantly hoof it upfield and kick it out of play when they have so much time on the ball. Nolan also knew the risk of signing Bennett who had problems with injuries in the past. I said get Caolan Lavery but nope. And also, how does it take two weeks to sign a player. Is it really that difficult or were we in slow motion yet again? Grant hasn’t turned up last few games. Would definitely drop him for Tuesday. What happened to the fitness levels? Everyone seems to be ill or injured all the time. Collin couldn’t trap a bag of sand with his goalkeeping abilities. Put Fitzsimons in next game. A lot better keeper, even if he throws out Sweet Chin Music once in a while. And if there is fall out and back chat, drop the players who are doing it or rally the team together for a talk to try and gain some of the team spirit back that took us far earlier in the season. We haven’t fully bottled it yet but we are going that way if we don’t sort it out. There has to be a siege mentality now to bring us back up to where we were earlier in the season.
</p>

<p>
	<strong>Who r ya?? You Pies:</strong>
</p>

<p>
	KN for me was bang on to tell it how he observed it , if they are letting him down by not following a game plan then he should say so , and for me he should face the press media as he did win lose or draw , if he hadn't he would be criticized for that so no win , there needs to be a strong manager who manages players need to know there place in the scheme of things , the big test now is will they respond positively or is KN in trouble , we are still 4th so come on show some humility players and get back at it.
</p>

<p>
	<strong>Melvyn Chambers:</strong>
</p>

<p>
	I am absolutely gutted with recent form. When we look back 12 months we were in dire straits with the possibility of dropping out of the league but we succeeded in pulling clear. The first half of this season we really deserved to be up there challenging for automatic promotion and with the promise of stellar signings I really thought this was going to get us to our goal ( Automatic Promotion). But sadly I must face facts the team have bottled it and the so called stellar signing never materialised so I’m afraid it’s division 2 again next season.
</p>

<p>
	<strong>Jay Dalton:</strong>
</p>

<p>
	February is far too Early to concede automatic promotion if we win against curle out Carlisle then we'll be point behind Stanley and the race is back on notts need get cup exit out of there head forget the Barnet last minute goal re gain their confidence and push again its by far not out of question for outright promotion
</p>

<p>
	<strong>Marcus Brown:</strong>
</p>

<p>
	What has gone wrong ? In form we have been pretty poor since the beginning of Dec . Today's result is an after effect of being smashed mid week. I was praying for at least a 0-0 draw at the end . KN has big issues to sort out now.
</p>

<p>
	<strong>Jeremy Putman:</strong>
</p>

<p>
	Can't see us coming back from this. Far too many teams competing for those top places. Grant has been awful for ages now. Bennett's injury could be a massive blow given our lack of pace.

	Although the Magpies were superb last time out in the league, winning <a href="https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/home/reports/match-report-record-meadow-lane-crowd-sees-notts-county-thrash-crewe-alexandra-r2386/" rel="">4-1 against Crewe</a>, they will be eager to put the <a href="https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/home/reports/match-report-notts-county-ship-eight-to-swansea-city-in-fa-cup-fourth-round-replay-r2401/" rel="">8-1 loss to Swansea City</a> in the FA Cup behind them while also seeking to get back into the automatic promotion places.
</p>

<p>
	Pride of Nottingham's latest Scouting Report provides a thorough analysis of the opposition.
</p>

<p>
	<u><strong>Head to head</strong></u>
</p>

<p>
	Notts have met Barnet just 18 times in competitive fixtures.
</p>

<p>
	The record stands at 10 Notts wins, 5 defeats, and 3 draws.
</p>

<p>
	Our last five fixtures have yielded 3 wins - including the last 2 - and 2 losses.
</p>

<p>
	<u><strong>Run-down of their last six fixtures</strong></u>
</p>

<p>
	Saturday 30th December – Exeter City 2 Barnet 1<br>
	Monday 1st January – Barnet 1 Swindon Town 2<br>
	Saturday 13th January – Crawley Town 2 Barnet 0<br>
	Saturday 20th January – Barnet 1 Lincoln City 1<br>
	Saturday 27th January – Cheltenham Town 1 Barnet 1<br>
	Saturday 3rd February – Mansfield Town 3 Barnet 1
</p>

<p>
	<u><strong>The Players – Fact Sheet</strong></u>
</p>

<p>
	Highest Goal Scorers; Shaquile Coulthirst 10, Simeon Akinola 5, John Akinde 4 and Jamal Campbell-Ryce 4.
</p>

<p>
	Persistent Foulers; Jack Taylor 4 yellow cards and 1 red card, David Tutonda 6 yellow cards, Michael Nelson 4 yellow cards and Andre Blackman 2 yellow cards and 1 red card.
</p>

<p>
	<u><strong>The Key Players</strong></u>
</p>

<p>
	The Glovers Bees goalscorer Shaquile Coulthirst is a player that poses a real threat to the Notts back-four, his ability to play off the defenders shoulder – whilst maximising his pace is a real concern as he could prove very difficult to handle.
</p>

<p>
	In midfield, Ryan Watson is also someone who contributes to Barnets attacking ability – as his eye for a pass can be something which splits the defence and, going forward he likes to get in on the action with the strikers.
</p>

<p>
	Ricardo Santos at the back is someone who should be very switched on and, his simple play can be quite misleading – however the magpies’ may struggle to get the better of him due to his awareness at the back.
</p>

<p>
	<u><strong>Style of Play, Strengths, and Weaknesses</strong></u>
</p>

<p>
	Barnet have taken a massive downward fall in recent seasons, however on their day they’re not a bad League Two outfit.
</p>

<p>
	They have plenty of ability across the field, with some very capable and quick players at their disposal.
</p>

<p>
	However, their issue greatly falls under a lack of confidence and belief within their own play.
</p>

<p>
	Good sides tend to punish them for their defensive relapses, yet they can score goals themselves – which isn’t something Kevin Nolan’s men should neglect to remember on the day.
</p>

<p>
	Performance wise, they struggle to get into games – they can have a lot of possession but fail to make use of it.
</p>

<p>
	Whilst they do appear decent going forward, the confidence is a massive sign when you see what they often do with the ball in the final third – often making use of scrappy play or a wonder goal to score.
</p>

<p>
	Defensively, they’re very poor and this is their biggest issue on the field.
</p>

<p>
	Nobody seems responsible to marking and, although Ricardo Santos does very well to bridge in this major lack of concentration – they aren’t exactly helping themselves.
</p>

<p>
	They seem a squad that’s instructed to go out and earn a point, nothing more – so they often fail to ask questions of their oppositions defence despite doing well in games.
</p>

<p>
	Tactically for Notts, they need to avoid being deep and inviting the Bees to attack.
</p>

<p>
	After the Swansea game our midfield needs to take hold of the game as early as possible and get a real feel for how the game may pan out.
</p>

<p>
	I fully expect Barnet to make some rash challenges, so the players will need to show no fear with silly challenges in an attempt not to be bullied when on the ball.
</p>

<p>
	The flanks will be a key area on the pitch for Notts and, the use of Mason Bennetts pace up top might allow for floating passing from distance to allow changes to be created in and behind the Barnet’s back four.
</p>

<p>
	Notts just have to be direct, build carefully and avoid rushing passes.
</p>

<p>
	Chances will naturally come with Notts push and use what pace we have at our disposal but it’s of great importance that we don’t leave ourselves exposed at the back or invite Barnet to play.
</p>

<p>
	This will require a good performance from Notts and each player must support both attacking and defensive play.

<p>
	Notts County's FA Cup journey ended on a sour note as Swansea City ran out <a href="https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/home/reports/match-report-notts-county-ship-eight-to-swansea-city-in-fa-cup-fourth-round-replay-r2401/" rel="">8-1 winners</a> in their FA Cup fourth-round replay at the Liberty Stadium.
</p>

<p>
	Tammy Abraham and Nathan Dyer grabbed braces, while Kyle Naughton, Wayne Routledge, Tom Carroll and Daniel James all scored one apiece as Noor Husin's impressive 35th-minute strike proved a scant consolation.
</p>

<p>
	How did the Kevin Nolan, the Notts players and the fans react to the result? Pride of Nottingham has compiled the post-match reaction.
</p>

<p>
	<u><strong>Kevin Nolan</strong></u>
</p>

<p>
	"When you come to these clubs you have to hope for a bit of luck and that they don't treat it as well as they did tonight.
</p>

<p>
	"They showed their quality and their class and when you have that you have to hope your players play to their maximum but I just don't think we were there tonight as individuals and a team.
</p>

<p>
	"I don't think we deserved to lose 8-1 but everything they hit seemed to go in.
</p>

<p>
	"I can't put it into words (how good the fans were). They were quality throughout the game and they deserved to be here today.
</p>

<p>
	"I'm just sorry that we couldn't keep the scoreline down and give them more to shout, sing and dance about.
</p>

<p>
	"They kept me right up for it and hopefully that can continue between now and the end of the season and we can give them something back."
</p>

</div>

<p>
	<u><strong>The Black and White Army</strong></u>
</p>

<p>
	<strong>Northants Pie:</strong>
</p>

<p>
	Its not getting beat thats embarrasing its the way we have just been statues with no pace and made them look like fooking Barcelona.
</p>

<p>
	We have been a joke tonight, I don't care for the whole their Premier league etc etc, we have been an absolute joke.
</p>

<p>
	My little lad has just gone to bed heart broken by our farcical performance.
</p>

<p>
	One thing it did show is our severe lack of pace all over the pitch, this will need to be rectified in the summer (I'm sure it is already being planned for).
</p>

<p>
	We desperately needed Liam Noble on the pitch, his tenacity and willingness to get stuck in was so badly needed last night, the only time any of our players gave them something to think about was when Alan Smith came on and let a couple if them know they were actually in a game and not an exhibition against a bunch of infant school children.
</p>

<p>
	<strong>Piethagoram:</strong>
</p>

<p>
	Having travelled to the Liberty..and waited ages for a taxi in the freezing conditions.... can't feel my feet.....
</p>

<p>
	Anyway, Swansea had targeted Dicko for his lack of pace and inability to put in real challenges.
</p>

<p>
	However, the real problem lay with Virtue.... Defensively so inept, was wandering around midfield without ever picking up a man, hence Swansea could pass through our midfield at will. Hewitt would have put in a shift, which would have given us a chance
</p>

<p>
	Even experienced pros like Hunt, one pass cost a goal but his kick it anywhere...when we needed to control possession.
</p>

<p>
	At least The General showed how to tackle and put in challenges.
</p>

<p>
	I hope this has opened Nolan's eyes... we missed Yates as Virtue is no substitute. We could not win the second ball to save our lives.
</p>

<p>
	<strong>Ian Kirke:</strong> I was there in person. I could have stayed at home and watched it on the box with my feet up. But no, I made the effort and travelled over 6 hours there and back. It was a gutless display. Some Notts fans will defend the indefensible and remind us all of where we were this time last year and use offensive language to justify their moronic jibes. But that was a spineless display lacking effort or respect for the Notts fans who sang their hearts out all night. I sincerely hope it’s the trigger point that propels us to promotion, but please don’t paper over the cracks Mr Nolan. True Notts fans can forgive if the team display passion, effort and heart but don’t expect me to join in the ‘Oh it was only the FA Cup’ &amp; ‘They were a Premiership side what do you expect?’. I expect passion. That wasn’t evident last night.
</p>

<p>
	<strong>Paul Bowers:</strong> On sat Hardy does a brilliant thing to bring in thousands of potential new fans in to the club. On Tuesday we put on a pathetic display on national tv and drive them all away again.I don’t think anybody minds that we lost, but to not even put up a fight was soul distroying and has turned us in to this mornings joke. We need to get bums on seats and I’m afraid that’s not helped.
</p>

<p>
	<strong>Trevor Robinson:</strong> This is what happens when key players are missing and you give your opponent's far too much respect. We gave them too much room and let them come at us every time. Elliot Hewitt you were sorely missed....
</p>

<p>
	<strong>Dave Woolley:</strong> Yes, to all off the comments below. Humiliation, however I would sooner lose that 8- 1 than have won it 1 - 0 then go and lose or draw on Saturday. We must win on Saturday and 1 - 0 will do..... keep the faith lads.
