“Lots of things we can do better”

Featured Replies

In his post match interview after the Gillingham game, Martin Paterson said there are lots of things we can do better. What might some of those things be? For me while we are now competing well against the physical aggressive foulers and shirt pullers of the division, we seem to lose our composure and give the ball away cheaply as the game progresses. The last two games we seem to be hanging on instead of being in control. If we can improve in that area (getting a second goal would help) we have a real chance of automatic promotion.

Agreed. I’d say you’ve picked up the 2 most significant areas tbh.

We need to be more clinical in front of goal - we seemed to take more shots in the last 2 home games but we’ve spurned good chances. That is certainly an area where we could improve.

The concept of playing/competing for 90 minutes - we could be more effective in that respect. Even though this is L2 and we are not Arsenal or Man City, we can try to control games for longer periods, particularly in the final 20 mins or so.

It all amounts to putting the game to bed, as it were. We are winning, which is fine, but we could be winning more convincingly. Not a bad problem to have and given the traumas of previous seasons, it is a massive improvement for my money.

You've both made some excellent points @McPie @YoopEyes

I think the key is to take more of your chances when they present themselves.

The chasing team is always going to throw everything in the last 20 minutes or so to get back on terms. Making the game safe would possibly reduce those nerves & that of the spectators too.
