These figures are astonishing. The price of petrol has increased significantly, from approximately 7.53 pence per litre in 1971 to about 135.3 pence per litre in November 2025. This represents an increase of nearly 128 pence per litre, or roughly an 18-fold increase in price.

Another tough game awaits Notts on Monday evening. Cheltenham Town are in good form & their new Manager, on his return to their club, Steve Cotterill, has them playing well. Before their two dissapointing defeats in the two Cup games, Notts were playing well with confidence. Hopefully turning their attention back to the league will give them a fresh focus to carry on their unbeaten run. If all the players are fit I would choose the same match squad that played Cambridge Utd. Roos, Macari, Ness, Bedeau, Tsaroulla, Palmer, Robertson, Jones, Hall, Dennis, Jatta. Subs, Grant, Iorpenda, Griffiths, Kouhyar, Aljofree, Norburn, Bennetts. I've put Dennis in the starting 11 instead of Grant & Ness replaces McDonald who may still be injured. Martin may still opt to put Dennis on the bench & play Grant or Iorpenda in the AM position. I would settle for a draw in this game. A 0:0 or 1:1 would do for me. A win would be a big bonus if Notts could achieve it.

I certainly would look at different formations in the future. A 4-4-2 would be worth looking at or even a 4-5-1 for away games As I have said in other threads, Notts have never really got to grips with how other teams set up against us. They allow Notts to have the possession & just sit back employing the high press against us & just wait for the Notts mistake when Notts give the ball away, which they always do during most matches. I would prefer a more direct approach & I would also consider Notts playing a counter attacking game, especially when they are playing away. I don't think that Notts should drastically change the formation mid season because the players are used to what they are doing, & I think it would be too disruptive mid season. It could be tweaked a little such as going to a back four occasionally or two up front, but a major change would be better planned at the start of a season.

To put it further into perspective a semi on a road where I lived as a boy was worth £3595 in 1971. Those houses are unaffordable now for people in their 20's just starting out. A similar house was recently sold for £225,000, nearly 63 times the 1971 price.
