Much better in the 2nd half. Still not sure why we have him on loan though, a similar type of player to Hewitt and Milsom. -
The players did most of the momentum killing, and at times the Cov players went down too easily but smart on their part. To stop the game being killed the ref could have produced some yellow cards, but I don't think it would have helped a deal. I don't think it was a penalty. Whilst I've seen them given, it would've been a very soft penalty indeed. Think the ref was right on that one. However the assistant to Notts fans left was poor. He missed a blatant handball outside the area and made a couple of other wrong decisions, but they were right in front of him and far away from the ref, so can't blame the ref for those. I think if the ref donned a Notts' shirt and played for us we would still have lost.

With IFollow using Windows and Chrome - the quality was pretty good to be fair. There were about 5 minutes where it was a bit jittery but apart from that a very decent stream. Not sure why the sound was just noise from the ground and not commentary (should be able to choose home or away commentators). When I loaded Stall and the new guy they were behind at first by 2 seconds, then in front by a second, which was annoying. I only paid a 5er to watch on the day as £130 quid seemed a lot to shell out on an unknown service. I'm going to the next couple of league games and won't watch the JPT anyway, so I think I will pay another 5er to assess a game and then pay the full £130 if it's decent. Jones was abysmal though - it wasn't just the one incident where he practically let them score, he did it on numerous occasions. If I were KN I'd honestly be trying to get rid of Dicko and bring in another LB perhaps on loan.

FT, lost 3-0. Some thoughts courtesy of ifollow:The game - We were very poor. We couldn't create anything, and the weak links defensively cost us. Coventry - They played well, but I don't think they are going to be the best team in the division, which is worrying for us. Jody Jones killed us and looks a very good player. Notts - 0 threat. Literally, nothing, 0 shots on target. Weak links defensively let us down at the back. Ratings based off a baseline of 5.Collins - 7 - We got beat 3-0 and the keeper still gets a good rating. That's not because they could've scored 6, but because what he could do to affect the game, he did well. Very good command of his area.Tootle - 5.5 - Steady.Duffy - 5.5 - Again, don't think he did a lot wrong.Brisley - 5 - As DuffyJones - 2.5 - Improved slightly, but can't let him off being so far away from the winger.Hawkridge - 4.5 - Never in the game, but unlucky not to score.Walker - 5 - Perhaps unlucky to go off, but they were getting the better of it in the middle of the park.Hewitt - 5 - MehAlessandra - 5 - Was lost up front, mainly due to 0 service. A decent debut though and somewhat promising.Stead - 4 - Second touch is a foul.Ameobi - 5.5 - Only player that looked like he could create something with flick ons and touches. Shame nobody else was on his wavelength.Ifollow - 7 - Commentary caught up, then was a second in front, which is even more annoying than being behind, deffo need to combine these features. Apart from that, good service. Ref - 9 - Let the game flow as much as he could, kept his cards in his pocket as much as he could, no complaints at all. Bring on Chesterfield, I think....

So... 1 down at HT. Some thoughts courtesy of ifollow: The game - Fairly poor, a lot of long ball stuff which is kind of expected for the first game of the season. Coventry - Nothing really to note, but that Jody Jones looks a very good player and is the difference at this stage of the game. Notts - No real threat going forward. Defence has held up well apart from Jones, but Coventry haven't really threatened. If we are going to play counter-attacking football away, then we need some pace up front, Stead and Ameobi don't offer that and apart from Forte, I don't see anyone else who could provide that. Ratings based off a baseline of 5. Collins - 6 - Commanded his area well, good block after a poorly defended free-kick. Couldn't do much about the goal. Tootle - 5.5 - Steady, some good interceptions, struggled a bit when Jody Jones switched flank. Duffy - 5.5 - Fairly steady, some good interceptions and challenges. Brisley - 5 - Fairly steady, some poor distribution so knocked down .5 Jones - 2 - I could see he was standing off Jody Jones well before the goal, and he has been fairly poor defensively. I don't care how good the opposition is, but to give a winger that much space to practically pass it into the net is criminal. Hawkridge - 5 - Not really in the game, some neat touches and lively but has a tendency to get bullied off the ball. Should maybe have finished his chance but a tad unlucky. Walker - 5.5 - Looks good to me, you can see he is quite good technically and hopefully in O'Connor's absence he can be the one to pick the right pass. Out of the new signings, he has looked the best for me in the first 45, also doesn't look scared to get stuck in when needed. Hewitt - 5.5 - Some neat work defensively, nothing really else to note. Throw-ins a potential threat. Alessandra - 5.5 - Quite tricky, couple of bad touches but definitely looks a handful and looking forward to seeing more from him Stead - 4.5 - Not much service, but hasn't done anything with what has come his way. Some bad touches. Ameobi - 5 - As with Stead, no service, but unlike Stead he has done something with what has come his way and his presence is a threat to all L2 defences. Ifollow - 7 - OK, shame that the commentary has to be used separately and is delayed compared to the stream. Some jittering but overall OK.

All the Notts County players that were offered contracts have re-signed, which speaks volumes for the atmosphere that people like Alan Hardy and Kevin Nolan have created around the club. Some people may dismiss players such as Curtis Thompson and Haydn Hollis signing the contracts offered to them, but as Adam Campbell signing for Morecambe has shown, players that were on the fringe of our squad are capable of signing for our League Two rivals. The tying down of Jon Stead and Shola Ameobi perfectly demonstrates the attraction of Notts as a club, of the atmosphere and aspirations that the aforementioned people have demonstrated. Stead had numerous offers, by his own admission, from throughout the world including the United States. Some may snort at the American leagues, but the offer of a ‘last payday’ as so many modern footballers find all too alluring (see the Chinese Super League) is quite real. The fact that a combination of the competitiveness of the Football League, the feel-good factor created by Nolan and the aspirations of Hardy has convinced Stead to sign a new contract with the club is outstanding. He is not alone. Ameobi - who without a doubt has received interest from other clubs in and around (or even above) us following some fine performances in a Notts shirt - has also re-signed. No doubt ex-colleague Nolan had an influence, but I don’t think it was the only pull factor. I also echo some fans’ opinions that a young, pacy striker to learn from Shola and Stead would fit perfectly, but let us not underestimate the threat these two veterans pose to opposition defences. We saw it last season, we will see it again next season. We all want to see new signings, we all have an F5 button that is showing the signs of a bit of wear and tear. We have already signed two wingers, who may not receive the ‘trial by Wikipedia’ nod of approval, but we have to trust Nolan’s judgement, January 2017 didn’t prove so bad. There has been many a season where Notts have offered contracts to existing squad players who have chosen to move, for one reason or another. We should be confident that the players who we have offered contracts have all signed, they all want to be here, and the reasons why they want to be here should be reassuring for all Notts fans. I think at some point, AH will make the same mistake as the previous regime in jumping the gun. However, I think, and hope, that AH will learn from the mistake and not repeat it, which can't be said of previous regimes.
Were you looking for an early Christmas present? Perhaps Notts County and Alan Hardy have given you just that. After protracted negotiations lasting several months, Ray Trew has agreed to sell the club and his 100% stake to Magpies supporter Alan Hardy. Whilst nobody is expecting immediate fireworks, it will be a relief for most Notts fans to see new ownership of our beloved club. A lot of people will be hoping for an end to the winding-up orders and so on, which I’m sure Mr. Hardy will deliver on, but what else can we expect from the new owner? I took a delve into Mr. Hardy’s twitter, to get some clues: Not a fan of Nike, but potentially a kit deal with Adidas? Alan Hardy has also done business with Adidas before. Promotion of Notts as a family club. Having kids regularly accompany himself to games at Notts, Alan will surely have a few ideas on how to improve the matchday experience for the younger Pies. Knowledge of the youth and grassroots football around Nottinghamshire. Notts have been accused of not having scouts look at some of the younger talent in and around Nottingham, this might be about to change. Developing our own players, and giving them a chance. Although somewhat successful more recently (Hollis, Thompson, Richards), there is a lot of room for improvement and perhaps this could become a key part of a successful Notts County FC. A quick mover. Usually in his car. But somewhat questionable fashion taste… you can’t win them all. FT Ratings: Collin 6 (6) - Generally steady enough. Tootle - 5 (6) - Been OKDickinson - 5 (5) - Let the ball go through his legs on the line, improved in the second half. Isn't the best footballer in the squad, but a hard worker at LB.Laing - 5 (4) - Very dodgy at the start of the game, improved. Got out-muscled by Grimsby's strikers at times. Duffy - 5 (5) - OK Rodman - 6 (6) - Took on his man and made a few decent deliveries. Sometimes loses the ball, but that's part of the package. O'Connor - 4 (5) - Not his best day, missed the penalty. Aborah - 3 (5) - That back-pass. Slow and laboured at times, does recycle possession and keeps hold at the ball, but at a cost, can be lumbering and defensively naive. Forte - 6.5 (N/A)- Totally anonymous first half. Improved drastically in the second. I was questioning why he was still on the field when we made the 3 subs, but he helped turn the game round with his pace.Campbell - 5 (5) Buzzed about, with no real returnStead - 3 (3) - Lost his man for their goal. Losing out aerially, going down far too easily, bit clumsy. Subs: Audel - 5 - Added a bit more beef Oliver - 9 - Totally changed the game. Won balls in the air, enabled us to play up to him when needed, unlike Stead. Collins - 7 - Goal on debut. Sheridan - 6 - With hindsight, it looks a wrong decision tactically to play Stead and Campbell against a big, physical Grimsby side. However, he completely turned the game on its head when he introduced the 3 subs. Took some balls, and it paid off. Grimsby - 6 - They really took the game to us and had an effective game-plan. Direct and physical, stereotypical L2 side. Not the best footballing side, but had a game plan and stuck to it.

Rodman - 6 - A number of good touches O'Connor - 5 - Not really noticeable, done the simple things OK. Aborah - 5 - A few key passes, but part of a midfield 2 which are going missing too often. Forte - N/A - I don't think he's done anything?? Campbell - 5 - Buzzed about, with no real return Stead - 3 - Lost his man for their goal. Losing out aerially, going down far too easily, bit clumsy.
We should be allowed to pick where we play our games, seeing as West Ham can. 1 vote for Asda car park.

I forgot we have to play 3 games in this awful 'competition' anyway, so it might be better fielding a team such as yours to give the fringe/youngsters a run out, but also we need to ensure we don't progress further than necessary.
My team would be: -------Adam Campbell---------- -Aborah--Snijders-Burke-Oliver -----------Rodman------------- -Tootle-Dickinson-Duffy-Audel-Adam Collin- We have to play first team players, that's a rule, but there is no rule specifying what position. 4-1-5 will almost be a guaranteed loser
I'm not saying we purposely lose, but maybe a directive of 'this is a training game, result not important, Haydn Hollis feel free to make as many mistakes as you can'
