  1. Great result that, and vital to get another win under our belts prior to a difficult fixture against Solihull. And it's early days yet, but we might just have struck gold on the striking front.
  2. Halifax are rock bottom after a poor start - could be a difficult season for them after losing their manager in the summer. Hope we can pile on the misery with a win, we're due one!
  3. August looked difficult on paper and so it's proving, but I suppose we should be glad of a point after trailing 2-0. Looking forward to seeing the goals tomorrow. From my point of view it looks a lot like LW doesn't know his best team yet.
  4. It's frustrating not to have won having been in control of things in the first half, but I suppose it's a draw away at tricky opposition. By the way, we are top of the league! What with monkeypox and all the forest fires going on, the NL should really do the right thing and stop the season now.
  5. Not the hardest opposition, but a very good start nonetheless. Great to see Langstaff get off the mark straight away too! Hopefully a nice confidence-builder ahead of some trickier fixtures this month.
  6. That's the play-offs sorted then, and very nice listening it was too from my garden in Germany! And we're nearly certain to start the play-offs with a home tie, which will probably be against Grimsby. That'll be a very different game though!
  7. We approach matches against the better teams and those against the Weymouths and the Aldershots very differently, and that's part of the problem. It's disrespectful, and frankly there's no excuse for the opposition "wanting it more" when we have (or rather had) a top-three place to fight for. Now it'll be the play-off quarter-finals for us again. We can thank our lucky stars we're somehow still in the top five.
  8. A winning team stepping down a gear or two when they're winning comfortably is a thing. But there's a difference between that and just stopping doing the basics like tracking back and letting the visitors have a series of chances to get back into the game. It feels like a harsh criticism after we won, but on another day doing that could cost us promotion.
  9. A win's a win, we've increased the gap to 8th and kept the pressure on the teams above us. With Halifax losing, we're 7 point behind them with a game in hand. Another slip-up from them and we could be looking at a battle royale for third place. It wasn't enjoyable listening though, it sounded as though we just relaxed after the second and third goals and showboated out way through a good part of the match. That's a very bad habit and could end up costing us dear.
  10. All the signs point towards a home win. But I've learned never to underestimate our capacity for messing things up! If we go into the game with the required intensity and score early on we should hopefully get the three points.
  11. Sounded like a comfortable win despite the disadvantage of me listening! We did what we needed to do against what by all accounts is a very poor side, but that early goal was a warning that we won't have it all our own way over the next few weeks. Very glad to see Roberts back in and involved in a couple of the goals, that's the reaction we needed. We're seven points behind Halifax and five behind Solihull, so third remains a tall order. All we can do is keep winning and hope for the best.
  12. Great result that. We had a little bit of luck at the right times, but that's part of the game and will help us build some momentum. The top three is very much possible, but we can hardly afford to slip up if we want to get there - we might be only 4 points off, but Halifax, Wrexham and Solihull all have at least one game in hand.
  13. That could be an absolutely pivotal win for us, a defeat would have left us well short of the play-off spots. I wasn't expecting Arter to start straight away, but the illness situation must have forced IB's hand. He certainly made a difference.
  14. I thought we requested a postponement for this and Dagenham @Dripsey3... This would have been a hard enough game without all the illness, Stockport are a very different proposition now to earlier in the season. Instead of playing ill players, I'd have dipped into the youth team. But that's easy to say after the event, and the result wouldn't have been any different.
  15. Another two points we could scarcely afford to drop, at precisely the moment when teams who are serious about promotion are building momentum. Was it as bad as I've been hearing?
  16. Yeovil have got two points from their last five games, and we're at home. Time to show a reaction and pick up three badly needed points, we really can't afford another performance like on Tuesday night.
  17. Good result, and great to hear that Eli Sam is hitting form! It's looking tight again and if we don't fritter away our game in hand we could be right in the mix for the top three. Need snookers for top spot, but it's not impossible.
  18. It feels like years since we played a league match somehow ... stating the obvious maybe, but we really need to get some momentum going, and Eastleigh are on a poor run. Anything is still possible.
  19. I totally agree. I'm really frustrated by the lack of solidarity shown by the anti-vaccine crowd, but making vaccinations compulsory is pure political stupidity and will likely be counterproductive. There seems to be a fair chance that such a mandate will breach the German constitution and be overturned again. If not, how will it be enforced? They've already ruled out physically taking people for their jabs (what a thought...), so we're left with fines. It's not hard to foresee a coordinated non-payment campaign. And then what? Instead of patiently explaining why having the jab is a good idea (the stats back this up convincingly), the powers that be have switched to punishment mode, and this has contributed to two camps forming. People now feel a tribal loyalty to their camp. It's no longer just a question of convincing people that the jabs work - they now have to switch sides. The government has helped make this happen. Also, we seem to be heading towards a situation where we'll be needing boosters every few months until something longer lasting appears. There's a real risk that the number of people having the booster will drop off over time, and the government surrendering its moral authority won't help.
  20. Fans of both clubs were talking about the possibility of this being called off beforehand due to the awful weather forecast and the state of the pitch. If Dover were so surprised, that shows a lack of foresight. The way a couple of clubs in this league are run is shambolic. Most clubs in the Northern Counties East league put them to shame.
  21. I tuned in on the radio, didn't sound too bad really. I did fear the worst when we went behind, but the sending off for deliberate handball changed the game. Even so, you still have to beat what's in front of you and Wrexham are a strong side. This puts us a point behind them with two games fewer played, and keeps the pressure on Furlough and Boredom Wood.
  22. With the news that several Notts players and staff have COVID-19, the first question is whether we'll play this one at all, or even if it's advisable. If we field a decimated first 11, we're putting ourselves at a needless disadvantage against a promotion rival. Hopefully that won't be the case. Wrexham have won their last three, are now third and are just a point off the top; however, they have also played two or three games more than most teams around them, so the table is heavily distorted. We might be more rested (this will be our first league game in three weeks if it goes ahead), but Wrexham will feel they have the wind under their sails and momentum counts for a lot.
  23. Tempting as it is to criticise the "interesting" way King's Lynn seem to go about their business, why on earth was a pitch inspection scheduled for an hour before kick-off? It makes no sense and is really ignorant of the fans.
  24. The German Thatcher doesn't really have any say over this. In Germany, the powers that be want to do it - get vaccinated or get fined. Not sure what would happen if people didn't pay their fines - there won't be any forced vaccinations, so how many people can you drag through court at the same time? Apart from the logistics of it I'm not overly keen on the idea, but during a pandemic the choices you make are not just your own - they affect a LOT of other people. It would be easiest if people just got jabbed, as unvaccinated people make up the thumping majority of ICU patients right now. Unfortunately, here in Germany there is a pronounced tendency for people to think they know better than the experts. I got boostered at the weekend. Felt slightly hungover the next day but it was worth it.
  25. That's a real let-down after the last few weeks. We seem to slip up against average but well-organised teams far too often, and you only afford to make very few mistakes in this league if you're serious about automatic - it's like like L2 where you can fluke third place on 70 points. Boredom Wood next. They are where they are for a reason, but we can't afford to drop points two games in a row.
