  1. Favourite Football Kit? The Home Ales one Best ground you've been to? Best Ground is probably Old Trafford, most enjoyable visit is probably Hillsborough when in the old first division when a smallish away following so out sang the Wednesday crowd that it was commented on by Radio 5, Scariest is either Chelsea when Rachid Harkouk scored the second, or St Andrews when we scored a late winner - I was in the Home end both times!! Favourite player growing up? Ian Scanlon Who is your GOAT? Don Masson Favourite Football Video Game? I'm not much of a game player but there was one called Football Manager or something I played occasionally. Favourite Football-based Movie? The Damned United Favourite Football Documentary? I haven't really watched one. First football match? York City at home in 1972. I was about 4 and stood on a little stool in the Kop watching over the wall. I was hooked from that point on. I think we drew. My memory is hazy though. I saw them play us in the kit with a Y on it, but I think that was a few years later. If you could watch just 1 football match for the rest of your life what would it be? Probably Mick Walkers first game in charge as it was such a change from what we had seen in the months preceding it, Football never existed, what's your go to alternative? Rugby Union / Cycling / Cricket at various times You can change 1 decision in football history, what would it be? Not sending Gazza off for that elbow on Paul Harding.
  2. I'm not surprised. The team that won promotion is not intact, new players have joined, they have other things on their minds. A celebration would be pointless and distracting. I suspect the City Council knew this. I am a little surprised there wasn't 'avoided relegation' celebration though.
  3. Nothing much planned this year yet - a weekend in Brighton and a weekend in Dublin, but I am hoping to get away in my vintage VW camper somewhere later in the summer. Lots of happy memories camping, in the van with my own family, on family holidays when I was young. I have been to Iceland a couple of times which was great too. One epic holiday involved cycling from Lands End to John O'Groats and climbing Snowdon, Scarfell Pike and Ben Nevis on the way and another we walked the West highland Way. They were both epic adventures.
  4. A toughie this morning! Wordle 726 5/6 ???????? ???????????? ???????????? ???????????????? ????????????????????
  5. Woo - a bit better than yesterday! Wordle 725 3/6 ???? ???????? ????????????????????
  6. Eventually!! I've not come across that word either. Wordle 724 5/6 ???? ???????? ???????????? ???????????????? ????????????????????
  7. Me too - my usual name for these forums is Rifleman Harris, taken from Sharpe! Daniel Hagman was my other favourite character. We are going to see the Home Service at the Broadstairs Folk Festival, but John Tams is too old to travel any more so he isn't going to be there, which is a huge shame.
  8. John Tams - I really like his stuff, Home Service, Albion Band and his solo stuff. I also like the Sisters of Mercy, Placebo pretty much anything on the indie rock, goth path. Mind you Twenty One Pilots are also good. I have joined a vinyl subscription service and get 3 surprise albums a month based on a theme I can choose. This has really opened my ideas to a number of different and new to me bands - The Amazons, The Offspring, Chic, The Bombay Bicycle Club etc etc. Now I listen to pretty much anything, but I draw the line at Gangster Rap (much to my daughters amusement as it is pretty clear I don't really know what it is, but refer to anything I don't like as Gangster Rap!).
  9. Back to 4 again! Wordle 723 4/6 ???????? ???????????????? ????????????????????
  10. I think you need to look beyond the matchday experience (or combine the two). Charlton Athletic are very active in this area (as far east in Kent as you can be without getting wet). They ran football schools in holidays, they run the National Citizens Service for 16 and 17 year olds. Saracens are heavily involved with local rugby clubs, Wasps players used to coach at local rugby clubs too. You could also make tickets available through these channels, either free or discounted too, which could cement the relatinship.
  11. It depends on the situation, whether its a chat or a single question, formal or informal. If I had one question in a press conference situation it would be 'What do you define as success for Notts County?' If it were a chat over coffee, off the record, then I would like to know what they saw in Notts to encourage them invest, how their plans have changed over the years, what success looks like to them, where they see opportunities to further improve the club (as a whole), how can the engage younger supporters (I think in this case our neighbours being in the Premiership helps in the short term). In the course of the conversation I think the general appreciation of the work they have done so far would come across plus suggestions going forwards. My suggestions are a little difficult as I live so far away, but embedding within the community would be a good start (Charlton Athletic run the National Citizens Scheme in our area - nothing to do with football, but promotes the club with young people), and working with the City Council to promote the club (they should be ashamed of their treatment of us after the Play-Off win and this could be used to our advantage). The Evening Post seems to be an irrelevant dead duck these days, but other media outlets exist to promote the club, can these be leveraged in any way? I think after that they would be pleased to see the back of me!!
  12. That was a bit fiendish today!! Wordle 720 5/6 ???? ???????? ???????????? ???????????????? ????????????????????
  13. It was in Roy of the Rovers, so my source is not 100% reliable!!
  14. Wordle 719 4/6 ???? ???? ???????????? ???????????????????? Yay! It worked. 3 days, 3 days of getting it in 4!!
  15. W Wasn't the offside rule different with a blue line midway between the halfway line and penalty box? I seem to remember Roy of the Rovers being caught out by that in his brief sojourn stateside!!
  16. Where is that? If you want good coffee - Lankmark blend from Heartland Roasters is very good, and their Monsson Malabar is fab. I have just started using Bird and Wild Espresso Blend which is nice too. They use shade grown coffee which is grown under the rainforest canopy and is more environmentally friendly as it encourages wildlife and birdlife to live alongside the coffee plantations. You can buy all of those online. I love my coffee!!
  17. Thanks, I'm using Edge, but there must be a similar way.
  18. I should have been clearer... I was thinking of the original US league with Pele etc involved. This version seems much more organic and sustainable.
  19. Costa would be our go to if we don't know an area, but in Canterbury 'Ginge and Fringe' and 'Wildings' are both excellent, so we go there most weekends, Some tips for Nottingham would be handy though!
  20. Aging players looking for a last pay out hasn't worked before in the US or China, and I can't see it this time. It may be different if players in their prime start getting lured over - a Haarland or a Mbape, but why would they go to a mickey mouse league? The Saudis have enough money to buy golf, I'm sure they have enough money to collect players at their prime if they chose to. I suspect they will continue to financially dope clubs in other leagues for now though.
  21. I managed it in 4 goes..but I'm still not sure how to post the pictures.
  22. It's sports washing pure and simple. It's no different to the financial doping of Man City and Newcastle. It should be called out, but won't be.
  23. I think it will be tough, but not impossible. I think it may depend on how many of those left to sign we keep, and Macca. My concern would be bringing in too many new faces at the same time. Scott is a ready replacement for Macca; I actually think he is probably more clinical, and I wonder if Morias was brought in late with one eye on settling him in for this season prior to Macca's departure. If we can keep the team that won us promotion last year largely intact and the augment this with a few new players with an eye on bringing them into the team during the first part of the season rather than having to throw them in en masse, then I think we could be in a good position. It would also help to have favourable games at the start of the campaign to build some confidence and momentum before facing some stiffer tests. With a fair wind we could be there or there abouts. I don't think we will struggle though.
  24. Haha... it was mainly spent sitting in hospital waiting rooms as my partner was called in for multiple (unrelated) tests!! We did get a day in Dungeness though which was great. That has to be one of the strangest places in the country and well worth a visit if you get the chance. It ended up being more some time off work than a proper holiday.
