  1. @Robbie Reading your comment I to have left out the likes of Mourinho and Pep because both have never been to Financially Strapped Club, while managing a Club in England. Both have had Millions of Pounds worth of playing Talent and as is often said Manchester City with their Arab Rich Owners and Chelsea under Abramovich bought their Success.. To even get a Sniff of being Considered the G.O.A.T both Jose and Pep need to go to a Club, like oh I Don't Know. Wealdstone or Dorking go to a Non League Team with little or No player Budget, get them Promoted back to the EFL and finally into the Premier League then they both can call themselves Managers. Ferguson was another with a Big Transfer Budget, later on in his stint at Man Utd. I've have heard the name Herbert Chapman but was unaware of his Record. And he was way before my time, so I've stuck with Managers I know .Bill Nicholson I have heard of didn't his Spurs team do the Double for the first time in the 20th Century ? Another Manager who did the Double was Bertie Mee at Arsenal. Both Jimmy Sirrel and Dave Bassett while never winning a Major Trophy both have Achieved remarkable success at Notts and Wimbledon and took their Teams to the First Division, so both deserve Recognition.], by building Something Out Of Nothing. But coming down to Brass Tacks, I like you have to Choose Brian Clough as the G.O.AT.
  2. After writing a piece regarding the G.O.A.T Player. I thought I'd give Fans the Chance to name their G.O.A.T Manager. I have only included Managers who have Managed in the Football Leagues of the English Game as I'm Not an follower of the European Leagues. So here goes with my Selection. Bill Shankly, Bob Paisley, Matt Busby, Alf Ramsey, Brian Clough Bobby Robson, Arsene Wenger, Alex Ferguson Dave Basset and Jimmy Sirrel. It isn't all about Winning Trophies but what a Manager brought to a Club. Bill Shankly. Turned Liverpool around pulled the Club up by it's Bootlaces and began building the foundations of the Liverpool Winning Machine. Won 3 Division 1 tiles FA Cup and UEFA Cup. Bob Paisley. Continued the Work started by Shankly and excelled his Trophy Haul was much bigger than his Predecessor . First Manager to win 4 titles in a Row in the English Top League. So Pep ain't Unique. Matt Busby. After almost perishing in the Munich Air Disaster and losing most of the Busby Babes in that Tragedy, he rebuilt Manchester United and his Team became the First English Winners of the European Cup. Alf Ramsey. The Only England Manager to Win The World Cup. Won 9 (3 shared) Home Championship Victories as England Manager .First Division Second Division and Third Division ( South) Winner as a Manager with Ipswich Town Brian Clough. Old Big 'Ead himself. Took two mediocre Footballing Sides Derby and Forest and made them into League Champions and twice European Champions with Forest. Bobby Robson England Manager Success in England, Holland, Portugal and Spain. Arsene Wenger Managed the Arsenal Team of the Invincibles when the Gunners went undefeated through out the 2003/04 Season Despite much success in England never won a European Trophy. Alex Ferguson. The Manager with most Trophies on this list. Winning titles in both England and Scotland. Dave Bassett. No Major Trophies. But 7 Promotions. And took Wimbledon FC from the Fourth to the First Division in 5 years. Jimmy Sirrel. Another Manager who took an unfancied Notts County from the Bottom League to the Top League. (Though he did have stint at Sheffield United, in between. And also Designed the Sheffield Untied Club Badge)
  3. Ok @Robbie I I was unaware of other sources. I will admit the only thing I was interested in when the Reedtz Brothers took over at Notts, were who they were and read up about their Company Football Radar . I Don't have Sky TV and I don't read papers or check their Websites or watch their You tube channels. Nottingham Post is a Red Rag who I think are totally unaware that in fact Nottingham have 2 Professional Football Teams.
  4. I've read about the Red Dogs wanting to move to Toton. Don't think it will happen it would cost far to much. Having to build the Stadium plus Parking and laying down access roads etc, it's already been rumoured it would cost between 5-8 Billion Pounds. On top of this there's a Local School Academy nearby plus the Tram Stop. The continual Construction noise and pollution and the arrival and Departure of Construction Traffic will certainly make Locals lives a Misery. Then there's the Historical Point that being the closeness of Meadow Lane and the City Ground, the nearest two stadiums in England. And wasn't the Forest Owner going to extend the City Ground at one stage, did that happen?
  5. I am sure that Macca will wear the Notts Captain's Armband with Pride, I have No Doubt about that, I just can't get this Niggling worry out of my mind that it may affect his Goal scoring. Then again Matt Palmer as Vice Captain may contribute the Leadership Role to his Team Mates leaving Macca Free to Do What He Does Best. Score Goals.
  6. Remember Willie when he played at Derby, in the early 1970's. Only a little Guy but he was like a Terrier Strong and Brave. One game that stands out in particular, was Derby vs Spurs at the Baseball Ground and the Rams won 5-0 and Willie scored with a header and Hugh Johns on the Big Match said A goal for Derby by little Willie Carlin, who despite his small statue as just out jumped Mike England 6 foot plus and Pat Jennings 6 foot plus, to put the ball in the Spurs net. A Sad Loss R.I.P Willie.
  7. A Chap was pulled over by the Police and was asked, Have you be drinking Sir? Yes Officer. 9 Pints of Lager, 2 Double Whiskies and a Drambuie Would mind blowing into this Bag. Why? Don't You Believe Me?
  8. @Piethagoram We can Never thank the Brave People for their incredible Service to our Country and the Free World which is still Free Thanks to them, for those that came back and those who paid the ultimate sacrifice against Tyranny, we must make sure Nothing like this happens again. Your Children Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren, and for Generations yet unborn must be told of their Bravery Sacrifice and it needs to be taught in schools they must Never Be Forgotten.
  9. @Robbie The thing is Can We the Normal Fan Do Anything About It? I know there was an Up Roar from Fans Regarding the European Super League and that bore Fruit, but the Super League is Still there Festering in the Dark waiting for it's chance and it seems it will come back and be a Reality Sooner Rather than Later.
  10. Here we go again. Your so right @Robbie But as the Saying Goes MONEY TALKS and the F.A. and Premier League are Deaf when it comes to the Worries and Troubles of Clubs in the EFL. As long as they can make Money out of it then it's just Carry On as Normal. Things will Remain the same as long as the current People in charge at the FA Remain in Control.
  11. @Robbie Sure thing it's Ok to Disagree that's the whole idea of Debating. And it's nice to see we can Agree to Disagree and Not Get Personal or Nasty about things. Even Though I am Right (HA HA). It's Good to be able to Express our Ideas and feelings Regarding Football in General and Notts in Particular. Long May It Continue.
  12. @Chris Totally agree with you regarding the Kyle Cameron situation regarding abuse from So Called Fans. I think a Vast majority of Negative remarks about Kyle have come from Fair Weather Fans, who Notts have picked up from their National League Success. I myself have said on these comment sections that I didn't think Kyle was Captain Material that is my opinion, it was done objectively and I wouldn't be abusive towards the guy, there is No Need For That. @Robbie Thanks for the tip regarding my Topic's Title. Now that it's sorted there shouldn't be any confusion (Hopefully)
  13. You got there before me @Robbie I didn't see your Topic if I had have done, I would have just made my comments on here and Not written a Topic about it, I don't know how to go about removing my Topic if anybody could let me know I can do it.
  14. @Robbie I think there may be PL Clubs who would be happy to play in the Championship including accepting Transfer and Wage caps. The Premier League would have 25 teams in it with No Relegation. Let them sort their own Cup Competitions and everything else. While the Championship would be the top League in the EFL and as I've said in my 10 points a Transfer cap of £10 million and the maximum of £15,000 weekly wage. Would level the playing field for all teams making them more competitive The EFL would have make up their own Rules and make sure there are No Loop Holes that Clubs might exploit to gain an advantage, over other teams in their League. Any Team found breaking the Rules would be instantly Relegated and fined Heavily. Parachute Payments would be abolished so No team dropping down from the PL would have that advantage over other Teams.
  15. @Simon Clark As I've stated letting the big Six go their own way, will only Result in the next Six Richest Clubs becoming the dominating force within the Premier League. So just let the Premier League Go It's Own Way and let the remainder work out a plan that puts all Clubs on a more Level Footing.
  16. Just reading on the Notts Website Macca as been given the Captain's armband for the up coming season. So raises a couple of questions, 1) Does this mean the Board are confident there will be NO Offers from other Clubs, that will cause Macca to leave the Lane? 2) Why? Firstly I can not believe that no other Club higher in the Football Pyramid would not come in for Macca and surely it would be better to wait until the Transfer window is closed? Before appointing a New Skipper. Or is it that Notts have put on price on him, that has put off other Clubs bidding for him? Secondly while I have the utter most Respect for Macca, his job is scoring goals. That should be the Be All and End All. He doesn't need the extra pressure of encouraging the Team on the Pitch and as a Forward (unlike a defender) Can Not see the way how the Game plan is working, when his only sight should be on the oppositions goal in front of him. A Captain needs to see all his team Mates and be able judge how the Match is progressing, and adapt things accordingly. He needs to be able to shout and make his orders clear and help any new players positionally. A Striker can't do that and be expected to score goals. Or is Stuart Maynard going to change Macca's position? I really Don't Understand the Appointment. Is this another Stuart Maynard idea? If so it seems Doomed to failure. Matt Palmer as Vice Captain is in a better position to take on the roll of Leadership. Just leave Macca to do what he Does Best, SCORE GOALS.
  17. A Mate of mine was pulled over for speeding. The Copper asked, Why were you going so fast? Two years ago my Wife ran away with a Policeman, I thought you were Bring Her Back.
  18. @Robbie I suppose we could assemble a whole Squad of players worth a shot at the title of the G.O.A.T in different ways. There is also a Case for a guy called Steve Bloomer who played for Derby County ( @super_ram could probably tell us more about him) I believe he played for the Rams in the 1890's or Early 1900's. And Notts own Tommy Lawton may be worth a mention. Basically the Guys I have named are Players I have seen, not all in the Flesh as it were, but on TV film and such like. Puskas was before my time I remember seeing him on film when he was part of the Hungarian team which beat England 6-3 at Wembley and Di Sefano is a name I have heard of. Stanley Mathews is of course a name I also know due to the epic Mathews Final when Stan Finally won an FA Cup Winners Medal. And didn't he play his final Professional Match aged 50? Then of course a Great Player I almost forgot Eusebio, how could I forget him Star man in many a Portugal and Benfica Team. I Don't think even the current Manchester City team would get anywhere near a team made up of the Super Stars we've named on here, when they were all at their peak. Wouldn't it be Great to get a Computerised match featuring the current City Team and an Elite XI from our suggestions? Not unlike the Rocky Marciano vs Muhammed Ali boxing match from the 1970's remember that?
  19. @Robbie An excellent answer and some interesting added players. plus a Top Choice for the GO.A.T. in Puskas what an Amazing Goal Scoring Record. But I'm afraid I'm going to have to disagree with you, in my Opinion the G.O.A.T is Der Kaiser Franz Beckenbauer. World Cup Winner as both Player (1974) and Team Manager (1990). Captain of the West German side which won the European Championship and Captain of the Bayern Munich side which won the European Cup three times in succession. And which of us who saw it will ever forget the 1970 World Cup as Beckenbauer played on with a Dislocated shoulder in a sling, due to the fact Germany had already used both of it's two allowed Substitutes. He is also been acknowledged as the Player who invented the Modern Sweeper Role. An Extraordinary Leader both on and off the Pitch. Played for his Country 103 times.
  20. In your opinion who is the Greatest Player of all time and why? Here's a Dozen Names to start with :- Pele Diego Maradona Lionel Messi Christian Ronaldo Johan Cryuff George Best Ferenc Puskas Franz Beckenbauer Gerd Muller Robert Lewandowski Bobby Moore Roberto Baggio Most players above are there for their scoring power, and other attacking skills. However other are named for their Leadership Qualities and an Inspiration to their Team Mates. Feel free to add players to the List and why they should be on it.
  21. I had to get Towed home last night Because Mole and Ratty were to Drunk. My Mate and his wife have called their fourth child Ivy. Because they couldn't agree on a name so used Roman Numerals instead. Old fashion Girls names Like Rose Elsie and Lilly are are making a comeback And my Mates daughter and her husband wanted to give their little girl a name like that But they couldn't decide which, so in the end they called her Nan. Saying she'll grow into it.
  22. So Very True @Robbie here's yet another reason why the EFL should break away from the F.A and let the Premiership go it's own way has I have said before. Every Club outside of the Premier League is on a loser and with Championship Clubs trying desperately to get their share of the Prem Gravy train are spending well above their means in order to do so. It seems that Leicester City will already start at a disadvantage next season with a points deduction before a ball has even been kicked. And despite Promotion and the money injected into Clubs who get to the Premier League last season all clubs who got Promoted have been Relegated back to the Championship this season. And as you have stated those Clubs will have a huge advantage over all the other Clubs in the Championship due to the Parachute Payments System. It just gets worse and it will remain so until the people who run the EFL are replaced by others who have the Lower League Clubs and their Fans interests at Heart.
  23. You know Every Year I try and find something different to give the Wife on Special Occasions, Such has her Birthday Wedding Anniversary or Christmas. I Remember Last Christmas. I Bought her An Artificial Leg, As a Stocking Filler.
  24. @Robbie Yeah I remember James Burke well glad to know he's still alive and kicking. There was also a certain piece of music played to introduce the Apollo missions which was Presented by James, and during an interview James stated every time his wife heard that piece of Music, she would say Listen Darling they're playing Our Tune. The Fire in which the Astronauts died happened not long after 3 Russian Cosmonauts had died after the parachute on their Command Module failed to open, and as all Russian Rockets unlike the Americans touched down on land instead of in the sea the 3 Guys perished, when their module crashed to Earth. (I think I'm right if memory serves). Thanks for the correct message update regarding what was said on Apollo 13 to the Command Centre. You might like to know there's a very Funny Skit by Phil Jupitus on You Tube telling a the Story if Apollo 13 had been piloted by a crew of British Astronauts. He does all the different voices and it's well worth watching. If you haven't seen it already.
  25. Well it's all Well and Good the Championship and Leagues 1 & 2 attempting to Cut Costs or attempting to cut loses but what about the Premier League? The Cost to compete in that Division is Crazy anywhere from £20 million to £100million plus Transfer Deals, players being paid anything from a £100k to £500k a week is disgusting, until the Premier League Costs and Payments are bought under Control how are teams further down the Football Pyramid going to compete? They'll need to spend money (which they probably have Not Got) to be on Par with other Richer Clubs. Take Notts as an Example should they gain Promotion next Season how much Extra cost will the Owners have to pay out to enable them to put together a side capable performing and competing in League 1? And how much of that cost will be passed on to the Fans?
