Glasgow has four professional football clubs in the City, the old firm, Celtic & Rangers, then two other clubs, Queen's Park & Partick Thistle.

But there used to be a fifth club that was quite famous founded in 1872. One of the founder members of the Scottish football league, a club that won the Scottish 1st division once, & Scottish Cup twice, & as late as 1961 they finished third in the Scottish 1st division & played in Europe.

Unfortunately the club fell on hard times soon afterwards & due to mismanagement, went bust & were expelled from the Scottish league in 1967. The teams name, Third Lanark AC.

The Club played at Cathkin Park, a ground that regularly saw big crowds in the past. The record attendance was over 51,000 & with large terraces all around,

The Park is still there in ruins now. There is a football pitch still there but on the three sides remaining, the terraces are overgrown & nature has taken over.

The park stands as a sad reminder to what can happen to football clubs no matter how big they were in the past.

There have been several attempts to resurrect the club. A businessman bought the name & to this day, an amateur club in a lower league goes by the name of Third Lanark.

Here follows an interesting video about the club & the ground.

i have never heard anything about them, its very interesting. a lot of scotland is natural and the cities seem very grouped. without looking into where teams play, it would be easy to think that rangers and celtic are the only two professional teams in that area.
