Not particularly surprised to see that Brendan Rodgers has been given his marching orders. They never managed to live up to the season before last and they have wasted a lot of money, but they are still only 3 points off a Champions League spot. It's a harsh move.

I can't help thinking that the availability of a certain former ex-Dortmund and Mainz manager may have had something to do with it. I've thought for a while that Liverpool would be the perfect club for Jürgen Klopp. He is ambitious, but also the ultimate football romantic, and for that reason I could never see him taking over at Man City or Chelsea. When he took over at Dortmund, they were very much a fallen giant, and Liverpool is the same, while also being a different challenge in a different country.
