  1. Mike Dean declined to use VAR to save 'mate' and fellow referee Anthony Taylor from 'grief' - https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/66612570 I find this shocking on the part of Mike Dean. I get that referees are subject to alot of abuse and grief but surely that comes with the territory of being a referee? The whole point of VAR is to catch anything the referee has missed on the pitch. The fact that Mike Dean spotted the incident but rather than telling his "mate" to go to the screen, he allowed the game to go on as though nothing happened to save him from grief. This is why VAR gets as much criticism as it does because the people behind it don't utilise it correctly.
  2. Didn't get to watch or listen to the game but the bits I have read it didn't sound too bad. The one thing that I am baffled about is that we are 3 league games in and some are already taking to social media to express frustration. Since the opening day defeat, we're looking like settling in. Slowly but getting there. I like to see this game as 1 point gained rather than 2 dropped. Plus a clean sheet.
  3. Managed to catch the highlights on the EFL show last night as well as the extended highlights on YouTube. I did feel the goals were poor to concede though. First one sloppy pass back from Nemane, Rawlinson just gave up the chase on the ball but there was no real closing down from Brindley to block the shot. Second goal, defenders stepped up a bit late that allowed Clifton to stay onside from a chipped pass. Even if he didn't go for goal himself, there was another player free for him to square across. Jones had a terrific game from what I saw looked a real threat down that left and it paid off. Deflected cross leading to the equaliser as well as a magnificent bit of skill to get passed the defender and whip in a ball for Crowley to head home the winner. Langstaff looked a threat. Unlucky not to get a goal when he had his header saved which eventually led to Bostock grabbing his goal. Although, I feel he should have done better with his effort that went over the bar. But his goal will come and when it does I expect him to go on and grab more. I think this game showed there's still some work that needs to be done but I agree with Luke Williams post match interview that this is the Notts he wants to see and it's coming together again.
  4. Listened to Luke Williams interview last night and caught the highlights earlier on today. Both goals seemed avoidable and I can see why Luke Williams sounded and looked very disappointed in the way we conceded especially the first as he mentioned it wasn't even that they out jumped on of our guys to head in it was the fact the managed to get the first touch and got the second to score. The second goal, sloppy pass and lack of closing down the ball allowing them to push forward and a free man to capatilise on the rebounded effort. As for the Baldwin red card, I also agree with Williams comments that it was needless just let it run through to the keeper. Silly second yellow to have. It could have and probably should have been 3 or 4, fortunately it wasn't. It doesn't sound or look good when there is such a lack of attacking threat happening in the game. It was nice to hear Luke Williams thoughts on the game though, as he said if the opening game wasn't as bad it was this game against a team a league higher wouldn't have been taking as badly as it is but cause there's already a dark cloud over Notts after the first game there needed to be more. Off the pitch, I get the first 2 games have gone bad but let's not jump on the negativity bandwagon. There's still a long way to go and one less Cup competition could prove beneficial in the long run for the league. Keep the faith and back the lads.
  5. I haven't had chance to listen to the post match interviews or anything but I did watch the highlights on Instagram. The goals looked avoidable and highlighted problems we may have defensively. Also, the back pass from Cameron that led to Stone being sent off was absolutely horrendous. The 4th goal though looked like there was a foul near the halfway line in the lead up to the goal. On a positive, Langstaff did superbly well in setting up McGoldrick for the goal. As disheartening as the result may have been on our EFL return, I hope fans continue to back the team rather than turn on them as it was only the first game of the season and things can only get better. Let's hope this was just a blip and better things are to come in the season.
  6. @AmericanPie I've heard this guy mentioned on Instagram by Tom MacDonald. Might have to give this a listen.
  7. It was a good game of football tbf. I thought we deserved at least a goal. We had the better opportunities and I think it's fair to say the loss was possibly against the run of the game. It was only a mistake that let them in to get the only goal which Williams owned up to after the match rather than it being down to Cameron which I have to give him credit for doing so it shows great leadership deflecting it onto himself rather than the player. There were times where it was a bit frustrating that nothing was materialising in the final 3rd despite getting in to good areas on multiple occasions only for the ball to end up back or Forest being able to regroup quickly. I did notice that when Claxton played the wrong ball, Langstaff was quick to blast him for it as there were better options available for him to pass to that could have lead to a great attacking opportunity. There will always be those that say Forest didn't play their full squad that would regularly feature in the Premier League but there were many of them that will feature quite often next season. Also, we played a very mixed bag in both halves especially the second half where the likes of Claxton, Munakandafa and Mahovo came on. Jones and Nemane, I thought, did well down the wings and looked threatening going forward. I'd also like to note that Chicksen had Mighten right in his pocket which led to Forest needing to move him on the other side. Overall I thought it was a great pre season game that showed where the players are at and also gives Williams an idea of where the teams at, what needs to worked on and how to progress with this team for the upcoming season to get the most out of it.
  8. Really hope they survive. Far too often it happens where an owner fails a club only for the club to be punished. More needs to be done to prevent this happening.
  9. Agree with @AmericanPie it's all due to Martinez' antics in the World Cup final these rules were actually put in place. However, for a few years now they've been limiting goalkeepers doing things during penalties and introducing new measures to stop them doing some things that could give them an advantage yet nothing done about penalty takers doing their own antics. They said they were clamping down on stuttering run ups to avoid keepers making a move before the kick is even taken but there's still some of that going about. @Fan of Big Tone I agree to an extent on the fact an attacker should be given an advantage as there's been an offence but there's less antics in normal time than there is in penalty shootouts where there is no advantage due to offences.
  10. @super_ram without doubt it's going to cause more controversy. Can see it getting a bit hectic. @menzinho agreed. The taker now has the upper hand during the shootout and the rule of keepers staying on the line is justified cause it opens more areas where as the closer they are by coming off the line the easier it is for them to save. Good point about the providing a list cause what do they deem "Taunting"?
  11. Starting from today these rules have come in to place for Goalkeepers during penalty shootouts. Is it really necessary to make these changes? I mean penalty shootouts are a psychological battle and goalkeepers do whatever they can to win that battle and save the penalty. Especially the part where they say "distract the Taker". Surely that's all part of the battle? But what about the people taking penalties? Will they put in rules that stop them using tactics like stuttering run ups or feinting to shoot? This could potentially lead to long penalty shootouts. But also what happens if a GK does any of these? Red Card? Yellow Card? What do you guys think to this?
  12. Without doubt a key man that contributed to our promotion. Matty Palmer is an absolute baller. Class act.
  13. @AmericanPie just the first one all the way through and bit of the 2010 one bout it
  14. @Joshua the first 2 ghostbusters are brilliant films. Not seen any of the new ones. I don't like films that don't feel like the originals. The Wrong House was a good film to watch. Things like Resident Evil and Final Destination are also good ones to watch. Another good one to watch is The Hole. Watched it in 3d as the dvd came with 3d glasses, only watched it twice but a while back so don't remember much about it but I do know it made for a good watch.
  15. @AmericanPie funny story about Nightmare on Elm Street. My brothers are all 10+ years older than me and they often babysat me and my sister. One night they thought it'd be funny to "scare me" by letting me watch Nightmare on Elm Street at the age of 7 but I wasn't fazed by it. They told me not to tell my mum and dad but being a kid I was just too excited to tell them about a man named Freddy Krueger. My brothers got a real good telling off ???? Great film though enjoyed it ???? Still need to watch Blair Witch Project heard many good things about it. Horror Films aren't my go to choice of film but I don't mind watching them, they don't really bother me too much.
  16. Gary Neville says Premier League should stop Saudi Arabia transfers - https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/65956434 Well worth giving this a watch if you have a spare 5 minutes.
  17. Jodi Jones has been my favourite signing but I think David McGoldrick will have the biggest impact. Don't really know a stunning amount of the other 2 signings tbf although I've seen posts about Crowley and it sounds like a fantastic signing.
  18. @liampie totally get it, I try to keep tweets at a minimum sometimes because social media can be a toxic place especially by those who hide behind anonymous accounts. It's why I also try keep personal life away from twitter and keep it more for like Facebook.
  19. To help all of us connect better I thought it'd be good for us to follow eachother, not just on PoN, but also on socials too. Drop twitter handles below to get us all get connected more. Twitter - @kb1862
  20. After the previous owners we've had, it's nice to finally have owners who have a real passion for the game and run this club the way it needs to be ran. Their recruitment process has also been fantastic as they suit to what the club needs.
  21. I'll admit I do find a lot of topics interesting from the same people but haven't followed any of them. Must do this going forward.
  22. @Ohh Tommy Johnson not sure I've heard that one, might have to look into some of the different rules and way they played the game compared to us back in the day.
  23. @Ohh Tommy Johnson oh yeah absolutely, the MLS back in the day wasn't that great. Although, they did have an interesting way of doing penalty shootouts. Quite liked the way they did them.
  24. The MLS is actually a decent league to watch tbf. Of course there are some games which can be looked at as a poor level of football but with their expansion and more teams becoming involved, it's getting to a decent level. It deserves more credit than it gets. But with the MLS there's more of a level playing field in terms of teams getting players but not able to go above a certain amount of wages due to the MLS franchise owning the rights as opposed to clubs. There is the exception to overseas players though however. As far as I understand it, they can get so many overseas players that are deemed of a certain standard and be able to offer them more than the allowed wages for all others. That's as far as I understand it anyway. Where as in leagues like China and Saudi, they just offer what ever the hell they like and it has little effect. Can't see it becoming any more appealing even with the players coming in. As @Ohh Tommy Johnson said rather than getting aging players they surely can try persuade prime players to come over for that kind of pay day.
