  1. I very much doubt most of the negative comments are true. I'd be amazed if we turned down an offer of Β£2m and even more amazed if we received one. For that money, you can pick up a proven player (free agent, Β£20k pw salary for 2 years). I really don't think Notts under the current owners would play games like that regarding ticket sales either. They have always said they are not looking to sell unless the deal is right. They can't control when a club makes a bid or when Macca decides it one he's interested in. If he goes, good luck to him.
  2. It would be a super experience, sadly I can't make it as I'm already away that weekend. Football overseas is a wonderful adventure.
  3. As I seem to recall Luke Williams once saying, a bid means nothing. We could make a bid for Jamie Vardy but it doesn't mean he's coming. And, if this is genuine, would he want to join a club which is playing games and trying to unsettle him? Why else would a club inform their local press that they've made a bid for someone? Sounds like they want to put stars in his eyes, and get him a cut price because he asks to leave. Maybe a sign of how he would be treated if he joined them,
  4. Thanks @Robbie It seems good for around a 15 year period but outside of that it seems sketchy to say the least. There's no data on there after 2017-18 for players as far as I can see? For example, searching Macca shows he's still at Gateshead.
  5. You have to name the captain early. Maybe not quite this early, but certainly well before the window closes. The window in EFL is 14 June to 2 September 2024 so if you delay until 3 September, you're 5 or 6 games into the season. Some players respond brilliantly to the captaincy. The extra respect, the added responsibility, the pride. I can see Macca doing this job brilliantly and further cementing his place in our history. No doubt it comes with another pay rise and, with the length of his existing contract, hardly anyone outside Championship can afford him. I think there's a player in KC somewhere, but not a leader, and he's a long way from a guaranteed starter if we recruit well this summer. He needs to play games at his age and a fresh start will do him no harm, although I'd be happy to keep him as a squad player.
  6. Ah! Point 9 in your original post was to scrap play offs so I fed off that!! To revert to the PL, I'd maybe let the top few - who seem to run things anyway - head off to their European Super League and let the rest carry on.
  7. Does anyone know of a website showing an all time list of Notts appearances and/ or goalscorers? I've tried long and hard with no success and find it frustrating that a club of our history has nothing, surely someone must have that info?
  8. A lovely response from Cameron but he has never looked like a captain. Maybe the freedom to concentrate on himself and nothing else may help him. There's a player in there and, for all the criticism, he could be a useful player next season.
  9. With respect to you both for your opinions @Wheelbarrow repair man @Robbie, I disagree. Play offs are fantastic for football. I watch a lot of games at all levels, not just the TV stuff where the money is, and play offs have kept the season alive for so many clubs across the country. And bear in kind that the lower you are, the more than are few people through the gate really matters. Like you, I would have been absolutely butted if Notts had failed to win the play offs after finishing so far ahead of the pack, but if the play offs didn't, then most of the NL would have had nothing to play for after we beat Chesterfield (in February, I think it was?). That win effectively made it a 2 horse race. There are very few meaningless mid table end of season games now, and it's so much better for all that.
  10. Ah, Richard Duffy. A little nudge from the attacker and Duffy was in row D in the Pavis... With Macari and Platt in place, assuming we play a back 3, Baldwin wouldn't be starting in my opinion. I can't believe we made him any serious offer to stay. And I would expect Chicksen and Cameron to follow him next season, although in fairness, Super Stu got my captain looking like a L2 player by the end of the season.
  11. A bit of context to that tweet from Tom Williams. We scored 4 that day, should have had double that and Colchester were shocking defensively. So were we, which is why we let in 5 and should have let in 10.
  12. He had 40 appearances for 3 clubs last season although only managed more than 45 mins in one game with Fleetwood. With Jatta, Scott and McGoldrick, I'd think it might be a gamble worth taking for a 26 year old. Manage him well and get him firing, but only as a big cash plus deal with Macca. If we can keep Macca, we don't need another striker.
  13. How about Macca to Peterborough for Β£1m plus Tshimanga?
  14. I can't see Fin Back remaining at Forest, although I think he's had some injury issues. Aged 21 and has just has 22 season long loans with Carlisle so has L1 and L2 experience.
  15. Just seen that Ryan Schofield has been released by Portsmouth. Great age at 24, decent experience with Huddersfield and a previous loan spell with us, although I don't think he's had much game time in the last couple of seasons.
  16. That league has had some horrific fixture pile ups at the end of the season. I think at least 2 of them had to play 12+ games in the last month. Great to see Bury at Gigg Lane as well. Makes you wonder what might have happened if the Salford owners have invested in a club like this instead of one which openly wanted to be non league (from watching the documentary on Sky, which seems borne out by their low attendances).
  17. I noticed for the last game of the season, Northampton v Notts is at Sixfields. Seems like they're doing the same as us, giving them the final game at the main stadium.
  18. It shows what constant victories, loads of money (relative to the league) and all the publicity they get can do. Crowds are far higher than they got as a League side.
  19. I'm guessing Loughborough gets first pick of the students. I was told Notts don't pay anything, I don't know if any other teams do, although I can't imagine it would be much given the small crowds. I agree with you regarding ML although I suppose it must cost quite a lot to open the stadium and the more games, the worse the pitch becomes. I notice there have been several Forest U21 games planned at ML and then switched, so wonder if we've asked for that.
  20. I hope they survive and manage to build on this next season, but there's been a lot of below par stuff going on this season. I've watched them 8 times this season and they failed to score in any of the first 5. I don't know how you recruit at that level, it does seem as if some better players joined during the season but the gap between levels is absolutely vast. Only time and investment will close that and I'm sure it'll come, but after all the hard work in getting promoted last season, it would be so disappointing to go straight back down.
  21. The club has said - including Williams - that our academy suffered massively by being NL as the better players went to local league sides, so it will take a while to build this up again. From the limited time I've seen them (first team cameos and one youth game), none of them are that close to being in a side which hopes to go up from L2 apart from maybe Brooks. McGregor is an interesting one for me. Been heavily involved in the last 2 pre seasons and then nothing. Cisse looked very exciting when he came on, can he be another Nemane? (Ideally the Nemane of April 2024) Sanderson, Gill, Mahovo all need good game time. I'm sure their games are improving in training but sitting on the bench and watching won't improve them. Although I'm not sure how much a loan to Long Eaton does either.
  22. I think it's more important to give Cedwyn some time. There's every chance it could be him and Jatta leading the line next year so the confidence booster of a L2 goal under his belt might be nice. For all that Sanderson has looked promising, as we stand he has a lot of players ahead of him, and that's before we recruit.
  23. Absolutely, pure click bait - and often badly badly researched with lots of errors - on that site. But let's suppose it's true, he's bound to have attracted attention, the other 2 seem better options to me. Bolton and Peterborough will certainly be pushing for promotion, Wrexham will have to invest heavily to be up at that level as there are some real big hitters in that division. And you're spot on @Robbie it will be a good deal for Notts if he leaves.
  24. Absolutely right, Robbie. We can't defend or hold onto what we've got so let's go out there and make them worry about us. For all the recent wobbles, a defender won't look forward to playing against Jones, Macca and Didzy. Crowley and Nemane pose their own threats and can't be ignored. If we have to, let's play like basketball and just hit back at them once they've attacked. And that will help to keep some pressure off our back line as well.
  25. @ARLukomski You know my thoughts very well - I wouldn't have given any of the defenders a new contract. They were weak in NL - bear in mind how much we dominated last season, they hardly had to defend and yet we still gave away 35 goals, was it? Mainly from individual errors. It was obvious those errors would be punished more in L2. Somehow we need to find a way to get rid of the ones under contract to free up space. I was Ok with Slocombe as a back up keeper. A solid, reliable professional who would be wanting a start but accepting a place on the bench and never giving less than 100% in training to help the senior keeper. The problem was the guy we signed isn't good enough. And neither is the loan replacement. I get the point with gambling on Gosling, we needed bodies and you'd hope his experience would have shown more than it did. A gamble that failed. Colkett strikes me as a 4 month trial period. Do we sign him in the summer and will he want to come? I'd actually like to see one or two young lads get a run out as the season comes to a close but we probably need a win or two to give Maynard the freedom to do that. Sanderson and Cisse both looked exciting players. I fear Munakandafa has missed the boat as he's done himself no favours when he has played and Williams was pretty critical of his attitude in an interview earlier this season, although he could easily have out that right, of course. I wonder if the owners / recruitment team had seriously underestimated the level of L2. Let's hope they learn quickly. I will take you to task when you say they did nothing for 5 weeks just because there were no new faces. That could have been for any number of reasons. A lot of players would be holding out for better offers and a lot of clubs would be unwilling to let someone go until they had a replacement in, so discussions could have been going on left, right and centre.
