  1. We did what we needed to do to keep it alive as long as possible. From the radio it sounded almost too comfortable up to our second-half wobble, but I never really doubted we'd put it to bed. Interesting to see the Notts fans in the little tin terrace behind the goal, I thought that was for the home fans. I'm a sucker for a good terrace.
  2. I listened on the radio, but it sounds like we shifted up at least a gear in the second half. It's encouraging to get a win against the team in third place, and with Wrexham only drawing you just never know. They need six points from their last three games, which I think they'll get but Torquay and Boreham Wood may well be tricky. If they get less than six we could even nick it, so it's important to keep the wins coming.
  3. If I don't get any points in the prediction league, can I just give myself the points from the universe in which I got them all right?
  4. The definition of the universe is everything that exists, so how can there be different ones? Surely "multiverse" is a contradiction in terms? My head hurts.
  5. It was a bit like a cup game, Wrexham are just on a completely different level to the other teams in this league. Rodders and Langstaff struggled to get any time on the ball, and the home team had players with the nous to anticipate the little through-balls we play outside the box that otherwise result in chances. We often live dangerously by faffing around at the back and this time we were made to pay. What was Bajrami thinking with the backheel for their second? But despite all that, the second half was pretty wild and the Welshmen were lucky we let them off the hook with the tame penalty. They're a quality side, but with a bit more cleverness on our part they'd have been beatable.
  6. We need to do what we did in the first half of the game at Meadow Lane, keep the ball and impose our game on them. They can't bombard us with crosses and long throws if they can't get the ball off us! I can't deny that I'm nervous about us having an inexperienced keeper for this one, this game will be a very different proposition to the last two and he'll be a lot busier. But maybe having a penalty specialist won't be so bad If Rodders can walk, he will play. I think he was rested on Friday with a view to tomorrow. In Scott and Jones/Austin, we'll be able to bring real quality off the bench if we end up chasing the game.
  7. That went pretty well for us, didn't it? Even watching the live stream, the tributes to Jason Turner were very visible and superbly done. On the pitch, the difference in quality was there for all to see, but that was to be expected. We should really have scored for - Langstaff could have had a hat trick today. But the best thing was Wrexham's result. If we follow this up with a win at their place, it's in our hands.
  8. I think Wealdstone are one of the few part-time teams in this league. They might be nothing special, but they are punching well above their weight and can no doubt give us a game if we're not on it. We just have to carry on doing our thing and hope for a good set of results to take us to Easter Monday.
  9. Alty were always going to pose more of a challenge than on Saturday, and they did give us some nervous moments at the back. We rode our luck a couple of times but were comfortably in control in the second half and the win never looked in doubt. Great penalty save by Mair, funnily enough I always thought he was going to save it - it wasn't badly taken but it was the perfect height for the keeper to reach. Great stuff. Now we have a Saturday off ahead of Wealdstone. Then we cross our fingers that Oldham can maybe nick something from the Welsh team before our showdown at Easter.
  10. Great performance, wonderful football, comfortable win. It was one of the most one-sided games I've ever seen to be honest. Langstaff has written himself into club history and has equalled a club record that has stood for 90 years. Surely it's a matter of time until he becomes the first Notts County player ever to hit 40 in a season - quite a feat. And to think I was worried when Wootton and Roberts left I thought O'Brien had an excellent game pulling the strings in midfield too. Scunny were really, really poor and I can't see them staying up. I was expecting them to at least come with a game plan an try to cause us problems, but apart from trying to exploit our high line and beat the offside trap (which they didn't manage once) there was just nothing. They gave up in the second half. I feel sorry for their fans, that display was a slap in the face. Stockport also ended up in the NLN and are now in a better position than both of us, so hope springs eternal for them.
  11. I would be amazed if Langstaff's knock is enough to keep him out on Saturday. I suspect it has more to do with not risking him in yesterday's exhibition match than any actual injury he's picked up. Didn't realise Brooks was also away - in that case I hope Slocombe is back, you don't want to chop and change between keepers. But otherwise, we should still be able to field a strong side.
  12. We are absolutely nailed on for second place @liampie. Woking and Chesterfield can get a maximum of 92 points if they win all their remaining games - we're on 91. Barring a freak it'll be a question of winning two more games at the end of the regular season - one at home, and (hopefully) one at Wembley. The second half was poor and we looked at least as likely to concede a goal as score one. A @menzinho says, a point away at the team in fifth would normally be a steady result, but we've had no margin for error at all. Now it's a question of winning as many as we can and making sure the team is in the right frame of mind for the play-offs. If things open up again at the very top of the table then great, but we need snookers now.
  13. I feared the worst when Dorking scored first, but the team showed character once again. It's a bit of a worry that we only had four players on the bench - a keeper plus three midfielders. The team more or less picked itself, which is less than ideal if things go wrong. Hopefully we'll have some players returning on Tuesday. It's good that they welcomed him to the fold then. Could have been a sticky wicket otherwise.
  14. I watched the stream until it gave up the ghost between the two penalties. We had a very sluggish start, Bromley were aggressive, in our faces and first to everything. Apart from a dangerous cross into the box that Langstaff couldn't get on the end of, we didn't threaten at all. From the angle I saw it from, the first penalty looked soft - one of those where the striker feels gentle contact and falls down in a heap, hopeful of the penalty. Admittedly it wasn't the best angle, and we couldn't have complained about being behind at half time. Credit to the boys how they came back in the second half and kept at it, it's just a shame we didn't do it for 90 minutes. Overall I feel happier after this weekend's matches. Last weekend we gave Wrexham a psychological boost just when they needed it by losing before they'd even kicked a ball. This time they've let us off the hook by dropping 2 points in injury time. It ain't over yet.
  15. Sometimes it just isn't your day. Nine times out of ten we'd have won that by two clear goals. If we could only keep a clean sheet, the penalty wouldn't even have been necessary. And Effiong finishing like that is just sod's law. Not sure there's anything to say that hasn't been said a thousand times already tbh. We'd just better make sure we win again quickly. I heard that Baldwin was shown the red card after the final whistle - any truth in that? Will he be suspended?
  16. To be honest, when we appointed him I thought it was a mistake and feared a lost season. The humble pie is Michelin star quality! His comments also show how much teamwork there is when it comes to managing the team - the days of the manager being this all-powerful figure are gone. And when you're doing that, you need a head coach who sees the rest of the coaching and recruitment team as valuable support, rather than a threat to his authority. LW seems to fit in very well here and is doing a cracking job on the pitch too!
  17. I missed it (I'm ill and I couldn't stay awake for all of it), but wow, those goals look like Champions League highlights going by the quality of the finishing. Might be worth taking in a full match replay for this one. Like Barnet, this looked like a real banana skin, but we once again wiped the floor with them. This team is like a juggernaut - it's a pity we can't play Wrexham right now.
  18. Not much to say after this one as I missed it, but it's not always easy to travel to a team who are fighting for their lives. Good result and another +3 on the goal difference. There was a brief moment of elation when Wrexham conceded an equaliser, but unfortunately it was only brief. But we can only continue doing our thing, winning and hoping that we're through in 13 games (or 15 at most).
  19. I'm still buzzing after that second half! In the first half we showed a lot of slow, sloppy play and it could have gone very wrong for us. We were too reliant on lofted crosses up front and looked nervous at the back. Obviously their goal was a howler on our part, but their man showed quick thinking by taking it first time when many would have tried to run through. The second half was totally different, we were quick, incisive, looked like scoring with every attack and we just overwhelmed them. Jones is a quality signing and Vincent is as good as a new signing. Both were involved in the goals. Happy days when we can bring players like that off the bench! The icing on the cake was Wrexham finally dropping points. It feels like a small turning point.
  20. Very gritty win, sheer character and determination got us through. This is about the hardest fixture you can have in this division, and if Chesterfield had played the whole match with the focus and discipline they showed after we scored our winner, they may well have got something from this game. Hopefully they can throw a spanner in the works against our friends from north Wales. Dobra is a cheat and should be ashamed of himself.
  21. Welcome @callum2569! The stats speak a clear language, but the form book can get thrown away in a (kind of) derby in front of a full house. It'll be a big match atmosphere and the home side have a new striker from Dagenham who'll be keen to impress. But if you're good enough for promotion, you've got to overcome situations like that. This is a really big few days, with today's match and in-form Barnet visiting on Tuesday and Wrexham hosting Woking. There's every chance points will be dropped at the top of the table. Hopefully we'll get the job done and Wrexham will be the ones to slip up. COYP!
  22. I'm feeling a bit less nervous about this one than I was last month due to Chesterfield's form, but they're still near the top for a reason and we have no room for error. It's a shame about Rodders, but this'll be the chance for someone else to come in, shine and cause the home team a different set of problems.
  23. Halifax barely had a kick, very one-sided stuff. It was a bit frustrating we couldn't add to our one goal (some of the decision-making in the final third was a bit off at times), but the 3 points are the most important thing!
  24. Following the failure of Chesterfield's crowdfunded pitch covers to keep the game on, this one's been rearranged for 11 February, which is at least a Saturday. Let us be grateful for small mercies.
  25. Agree with @Dripsey3, this fixture is always a banana skin. I can't say much about the game as we were already 2-0 up and cruising when I started watching the stream. There was an anxious moment when Slocombe dwelled on the ball a little too long, and a nice opportunistic goal from Nemane, but apart from that I haven't got much to say. Good job, onto the next one!
