    Crawley Town boss Harry Kewell is expecting an aggressive and entertaining game between his side and Notts County tomorrow. The Magpies travel to the Broadfield Stadium at the weekend with the chance of making it eight games unbeaten in all competitions. Kewell knows Nolan well, having faced him in the Premier League in the 2000s, and is relishing the chance to take him on from the dugout this time. "It's sure to be an aggressive game, but an entertaining one as well," the Australian told the official Crawley website. "I'm sure as fellow former players who've played against each other, we'll both know what we're going to bring with our respective sides. "It'll be tough, they're on a good run, but we've already shown this season we can rise to challenges and tough opposition. "This weekend is no different, we approach every game in the same way." Nolan, meanwhile, spoke fondly of Kewell and says he will be looking forward to renewing acquaintances with him on Saturday. “They (Crawley) made an appointment in the summer which I think probably shocked everybody, in the respect that I didn’t think Harry Kewell would want to go down that route,” Nolan told the Nottingham Post. “But it’s fantastic. It’s nice that people are trying to break the mould and realising that to try to get better, you’ve got to come to League Two to try to prove yourself. Hats off to him. “He was one of the big names in the Premier League. I think the last time I saw him, he was winning a Champions League medal in Istanbul. I was actually with the fans and he was obviously on the pitch with the trophy! “It will be nice to catch up with him and Warren (Feeney, assistant head coach), who was manager of Newport when I was at Accrington.     Kevin Nolan has urged again for perspective at Notts County, reiterating the need to take each game as it comes and secure safety before reassessing the objectives for the season. The Magpies could make it eight games unbeaten in all competitions if they get a result away at Crawley Town on Saturday, with the Magpies sitting second in League Two. Despite talk among fans shifting towards promotion, Nolan insists that it's too early in the season to look ahead all the way to next May when the league reaches its decisive fixtures. He told the Nottingham Post: “When I did my initial interview with Alan, it was saying we need to sustain our league status, then it was about making sure we sustained it again this year but with more ease and not a topsy turvy season. Then it was a three to five-year plan to get us out this league and sustain ourselves in League One to then start looking for Championship football. “We haven’t really now set our goals. I think it’s been a bit different from where we were at the end of January – although probably after the first game of the season (a 3-0 defeat at Coventry City) we were back to where we were in January! “Now, there’s a lot of positivity. There’s a lot of people shouting, ‘yes, we can do this and we can do that’. But I think it’s really key that we remain grounded and at a medium, happy level. “We’ve got to make sure from the start we’ve had that we finish in the top half of the table, because that would be success for this club after a number of years being in the doldrums of this league – where you’re fearful of relegation. “We’ve got to get to safety as quickly as possible. If we do that, then we can reassess what we’re going to do this season. “We can’t start getting carried away, saying ‘we’re going to win it, we’re going to get promoted’. We’ve got to have realistic aims and realistic ambitions. “It’s a club in transition and sometimes if you go a bit too quick, and go too soon, that can bite you in the bum. Ameobi is not expected to play any part in the Magpies' trip to Crawley tomorrow, but Nolan insists his backroom team will take good care of him and should be able to establish a recovery timeline in the next few days. “We’re just taking it daily. It’s going to take a bit of time,” Nolan told the Nottingham Post. “It’s his hamstring. We thought it was maybe an overstretch, but when we looked at the video, and when the medical staff looked at the video, it seemed it was more what a sprinter would get in the way he hyper-extended his leg. “They are really confident that he won’t be out for too long. I’ve got a wonderful backroom staff who work tirelessly day in, day out, so I’m sure they’re giving him (Ameobi) the best treatment at the minute. “Knowing Shola, it won’t be too long until we see him back on the pitch. “Hopefully I’ll be able to give you a timeline in the next few days, certainly after the weekend. The first sighting of goal came in the eighth minute when Richard Duffy’s botched header fell to Keshi Anderson in the area, but the Swindon man volleyed straight at Adam Collin. Matty Taylor then picked out Luke Norris with a cross to the back post, but his header on the stretch flew wide. Notts were next to threaten as Lewis Alessandra went close with a rasping drive which whistled past the post from 20 yards. Carl Dickinson then curled a free kick from 25 yards against the outside of the post and out of play as the heavens opened up and torrential rain began falling onto the Meadow Lane pitch. Notts went on to take the lead through Stead's penalty and held onto their slender advantage going into the break.     Notts County have met Swindon Town on 63 occasions, the first time being 103 years ago in the FA Cup. On that day in January 1911, the Robins beat the Magpies 2-0 at the County Ground. Of the 63 clashes, 24 have been won by Notts, 27 by Swindon, and 12 have been drawn. The last meeting between the two was on 7 March 2015, away at the County Ground, and the Robins ran out 3-0 winners. The club was founded in 1879 by Reverend William Baker Pitt. Whilst curate of Christ Church, the high church of Swindon, Pitt formed Swindon Association Football Club to provide recreation for young men in his parish. Swindon won the Southern League championship in 1910-11, earning themselves a Charity Shield clash with Football League champions Manchester United. This, the highest-scoring Charity Shield game to date, was played on 25 September 1911 at Stamford Bridge with Manchester United winning 8–4! Some of the proceeds of this game were later donated to the survivors of the Titanic. During World War II, The War Department – the government body responsible for the supply of equipment to the armed forces in the UK – took over the County Ground in 1940. For a while, prisoners of war were housed in huts placed on the pitch. For this, the club received compensation of £4,570 at war’s end. Swindon Town were the first League club to use floodlights, having had them installed in 1951. The County Ground is also the only football stadium in the world with a Rolex watch acting as its timekeeper –the clock on the Stratton Bank stand featuring its name was erected to celebrate promotion in 1963. Swindon have spent one season in the top flight, in 1992-93, during which Glenn Hoddle managed them. Sadly, they didn't do too well, being relegated at the end of the season after conceding 100 goals. The most notable silverware in the Robins’ possession is undoubtedly the League Cup, won in 1969 after beating Arsenal in the final at Wembley. Royle Family and Two Pints Of Lager actor Ralf Little was rumoured to be on trial at Swindon back in 2002, though the funnyman later claimed that he was just training with the squad. Pint-sized jazz singer Jamie Cullum is also a fan of the Robins. Team news Shola Ameobi will miss Notts County's home game against Swindon after picking up a hamstring injury that forced him off after 41 minutes of Saturday's 2-0 victory over Morecambe. Jonathan Forte came on for Ameobi at the weekend and he is expected to make his first league start of the season after scoring his side's second goal against the Shrimps. Notts boss Kevin Nolan has an otherwise fully-fit squad to choose from as he looks to extend his side's unbeaten run to eight matches. The away dressing rooms have also gained some coverage, albeit more on the negative side, when Accrington Stanley boss John Coleman said his side had to change "in a corridor". Nolan spoke of how, as Leyton orient player-manager, he found it very comfortable, and did not want that to be the case on his watch as Magpies manager. “I take pride in the fact that this (Meadow Lane) is our home,” he told the Nottingham Post. “We don’t want anybody to come and enjoy being here. “I always thought it was very comfortable for teams playing here before I arrived. I certainly found that when I came here last time with Leyton Orient. “It’s one of the best stadiums in the league and shouldn’t be at this level given the history and so on. “But teams used to love coming here because of the fantastic pitch and the fact it’s a lovely ground. “They had a nice dressing room, but I haven’t changed it around for the opposition, I’ve changed it because it helps us. “We now have a bootroom which we can utilise and means we can put stuff away whereas before it was out in corridors. “Now we have a store and a lock-up.     Notts County have climbed to third in League Two and stretched their unbeaten run to six games in all competitions following a 2-0 win over Morecambe. Dan Jones opened the scoring for the Magpies at Meadow Lane with a 27th-minute free kick which was curled expertly round the Shrimps wall and beyond goalkeeper Barry Roche. Morecambe launched a fightback but their efforts were to no avail as Notts struck late on through substitute Jonathan Forte as he broke through and rifled home via the inside of the post. I thought we dominated throughout. "The lads were magnificent. They followed up a hard-fought win last week with another top performance and clean sheet today. "As a defensive unit I feel we had to get better from last year. We were leaking goals from here, there and everywhere and now we look like a really good, solid unit. "It was a great all-round performance and I'm absolutely delighed. We're on a decent run now but the games come thick and fast. "We've got another tough one on Tuesday night so we're looking forward to that." To be fair, they allowed us to have more time on the ball by using three men to mark players like Jorge Grant. I agree that our football wasn't pretty at times, yet it's very good progress on the back of a very poor season last year and the promising signs are that it's improving. "The injury to Shola Ameobi was a massive blow, though Jonathan Forte has proven that he can come in and score. "The team spirit shined during the period whereby Morecambe threatened, though I must say Duffy looks the weak link in defence and his rushing of the play was very frustrating." Liampie "It was sad to see people leaving around the 75th minute mark moaning about how poor the game was, i thought notts played quite well but lacked fire power and we really did miss shola in the squad half. It was no more than the hosts deserved for a solid performance which maintained their excellent start to the season under boss Kevin Nolan.     Great win in the end. Morecambe have been a bogey side in recent years but Notts were really impressive. Could have scored more in the first half alone, Dan Jones's free kick was a peach, then they weathered the storm in the second half and who else but our main man Jonny Forte getting the cherry on top. Now, years of supporting this side know I shouldn't get carried away, especially one month into the season, but dammit it's all going swimmingly at the moment.

    Alam Hardy has revealed how one prospective Notts County target - a free agent - asked the club for more than £4,000 a week to join. The Magpies strengthened their ranks throughout the course of the summer and, although there was some mild interest in a number of players late on in the transfer window, nothing came of it. Hardy wrote in the Nottingham Post: "The window closed last week and I was originally of the opinion that deadline day added great excitement. "But, on reflection, it seems farcical that some clubs were left racing around to beat the deadline given they’ve had all summer to plan. "Clubs have months to put a strategy in place, identifying what their team will look like in terms of shape and so on. "You develop a list of players who fit the vision, so it beggars belief that some clubs need right up until the very last few minutes or seconds of the window to do a deal. "Let’s be frank, these clubs are multi-million pound businesses, not corner shops. "Don’t get me wrong, there are genuine cases of managers needing players at short notice, but I think my biggest problem is the hyperbole surrounding the final day of the window, which means fans tend to judge your entire transfer business on the outcome of that 24 hours. "You can sign player after player, but the manager Kevin Nolan and I view this far more strategically than it appears other clubs do. "We pursued some exceptional targets but unfortunately couldn’t get them over the line. It didn't mean, however, that we then started scrambling around for others. "Those players would have been great additions, no doubt, but it was not the be all and end all. "You also have to bear in mind if you bring five players in on the final day, what kind of message does that send to the rest of the squad? "Of course, we still have the opportunity to sign players who are out of contract and there are plenty of those available. "I have to say some of their demands have been off the scale in terms of wages. But it’s like that in any industry at the moment. "In construction, raw materials have gone up by a single digit in terms of percentage, but salaries have risen by 20 to 30 percent. It’s not just football. It’s right across the board. "That’s being reflected in players’ demands. A player was put to us recently and I enquired what he would be after in terms of wages. "He wanted more than £4,000 a week. It’s crazy. Why have they approached a League Two club asking for those kinds of sums? "A lot of these players still feel they can play in the Championship or League One, but if you haven’t played football for a few months, clubs at that level simply won’t take the risk."     Notts County have stretched their unbeaten run to six matches in all competitions following Saturday's 2-0 victory against Morecambe at Meadow Lane. The Magpies were quick out of the starting blocks in the League Two encounter, with Shola Ameobi heading wide from a Dan Jones corner early on. Kevin Nolan's charges continued to impress with Jon Stead, Terry Hawkridge and Ameobi all weighing in with chances, while at the other end, the unmarked Steven Old headed straight at Adam Collin from a corner kick. However, County's efforts were rewarded in the 27th minute when Ameobi won a free kick not far from the Morecambe box, and Jones curled his set piece over the wall and into the top corner of the net. The visitors made changes at the break and soon enjoyed a dominant spell but struggled to carve out any decent opportunities. Shaun Brisley nearly doubled County's lead when his header from a corner landed on the roof of the net on 66 minutes. Collin remained untested in the home goal with the Shrimps’ only effort being a Garry Thompson shot on the turn that skewed well wide of the Magpies’ goal. Eventually Notts found a killer second and it came courtesy of Jonathan Forte, who got behind Aaron McGowan for a free run on goal which ended with a perfectly placed shot to beat Barry Roche from a tight angle. Jorge Grant then had a chance to make it three with a free kick from the edge of the area but could only curl the ball over the woodwork. Morecambe pressed for a late consolation goal and Collin was forced to save well from Thompson and Elliot Osborne in injury time but Nolan's boys managed to hold on for all three points.     Notts County and Morecambe have met just 10 times in their history, with the first ever clash taking place 10 years ago, in September 2007. On that day, it ended as a 1-1 draw, Michael Twiss putting the visitors ahead at Meadow Lane in the first half, before the late Richard Butcher equalised in the 87th minute. The Shrimpers are considerably ahead in the head-to-head, with Notts having lost to them five times, beaten them twice, and drawn thrice. This fixture has yielded a scoreline of 4-1 three times already - once in our favour and twice in Morecambe's (including our last meeting with them, last season at Meadow Lane). Worth a punt for a 4-1 home win tomorrow? The fixture on 19 September 2009 was former Arsenal and England legend Sol Campbell's only game in a Magpies shirt, while the rematch later in the season, on 17 April 2010, is when Notts mathematically secured promotion to League One. Football in the town dates back to the turn of the 20th century; however, it was not until 7 May 1920 that Morecambe FC was formed. The club then took its place in the Lancashire Combination League for the 1920–21 season. The fourteen years from 1960 could be said to be Morecambe's golden era. This included an FA Cup third round appearance in 1961–62, a 1–0 defeat to Weymouth; a Lancashire Senior Cup Final victory in 1968, a 2–1 win over Burnley; and an FA Trophy success at Wembley in 1974, a 2–1 win over Dartford in the final. Morecambe, a non-league side for most of their history, were promoted to the Football League for the first time in 2007 after winning the Conference Playoff Final, beating Exeter City 2–1 at Wembley in front of over 40,000 fans. Morecambe was a thriving seaside resort in the mid-20th century. While the resort of Blackpool attracted holiday-makers predominantly from the Lancashire mill towns, Morecambe had more visitors from Yorkshire, due to its railway connection, and Scotland. Between 1956 and 1989 Morecambe was the home of the Miss Great Britain beauty contest. Team news Matt Tootle is back from suspension after serving a one-match ban as Notts County look to stretch their unbeaten run to five in League Two (six in all competitions). Rob Milsom, Jonathan Forte and Lewis Alessandra, who scored the winning goal at Port Vale, will be pushing for starting places. Shaun Brisley was taken off at Vale Park folowing a blow to the head but Magpies boss Kevin Nolan is hoping he will be able to slot back into the starting XI alongside centre-back partner Richard Duffy.     Kevin Nolan wants Notts County to continue their good form at home and continue building Meadow Lane up as a fortress as they prepare to host Morecambe this weekend. The Magpies are flying high in League Two after putting their opening-day 3-0 defeat at Coventry City behind them, and currently boast a five-game unbeaten run in all competitions. Morecambe, however, have proven a bogey team for Notts in recent games, which include two 4-1 wins over the Magpies. Nolan told the official Notts website: "They've had two good away draws in the last couple of games and they put us to the sword twice last year, playing really well on both occasions. "You can never take anyone for granted. This is going to be a tough game. We've got a returning Adam Campbell who's going to want to prove himself and Kevin Ellison is a nuisance all game. "We're not in for an easy ride. We're going to have to be patient." Meanwhile, the Nottingham Post quotes him as saying: “Teams will come here and respect what we have done.     Kevin Nolan has revealed that Shaun Brisley looks more likely than not to play a part in Notts County's League Two home encounter with Morecambe this weekend. The defender was taken off late in the Magpies' 1-0 win over Port Vale last week after receiving a blow to the head. However, when asked about injury worries ahead of the Meadow Lane fixture this Saturday, Nolan provided a positive update about Brisley. “We have no injury worries,” he told the Nottingham Post. “Obviously we had Bris (Brisley) who came off in the last 10 minutes or so against Port Vale. “But he’s come through training and if there are no problems over the next 24-48 hours, we should be free to play whoever we want. “I'm delighted there was no severe damage. We are not out of the woods yet with him and I said after the game last week that we will look after his welfare. “We'll make sure he's alright. His health and livelihood comes well before anything else. “Fingers crossed he will be okay. He's come through a couple of training sessions, but you don’t know what could happen.
