  1. I don't want the club to believe that York City has nothing to play for. Beating a successful team should be enough motivation. Beating a team that's taken 2nd place, with points, goals, and our stadium size as added motivation, is something any team would aim for to end their season successfully. Whilst on paper the game should be quite straight forward, last games of the season do tend to spring a surprise or a shock. I want to see our defence play much more aware, working as a team to stop any danger and to protect the keeper (whoever that may be) from being required. It would be nice to think Matt Palmer and John Bostock can run the show in midfield, allowing the creative wide players to truly bring the game to York. I think Jodi Jones would prove to be a handful against them, likewise with Arron Nemane's habit of getting in behind the players. If Adam Chicksen starts, how can we make room for Jodi Jones? I would be tempted to give Chicks another rest, at least from the beginning of the game. He'll be vital for the home playoff tie, which would leave him plenty of time to train, rest and get back to his best. I suspect Macaulay Langstaff will return up front, despite me wishing Cedwyn Scott got a few more starts than he has done. I do fully expect York City to be one of the better teams we have faced at home, simply because of how their season has panned out and how they will want to send their fans home happy.
  2. I can't quote this as the truth, although multiple people mentioned it and one of those does have a habit of bending things, but there was supposedly no sell on clause for Dongda He. The lad has potential, I think the level of the Premier League is too much, and he hasn't gained a lot of experience since leaving us. I think a move to China should see him gain more experience, which will be vital. It depends on his desire to progress as a footballer, if he will ever reach a high level of what his potential seemed to suggest. However, he wouldn't be the first ex Notts player to fall wayward due to progressing too quickly without maturing as a seasoned player.
  3. Adam Chicksen's commitment could potentially influence other players to stay long-term, but that ultimately depends on Luke Williams' plans.I think if we do well in the playoffs, it should see more renewals. I only think one or two players may leave and, I don't buy the rumour that Ruben Rodrigues has agreed terms elsewhere already. A futher two years shows a good level of committment, considering last time we only offered him a single year deal.
  4. Comparing our spending to Wrexham's is like saying Nottingham Forest refused to invest and opted to fight like Derby County, who were relegated with the lowest-ever points tally in the Premier League. 'Welcome to Wrexham' revealed that the money paid to Paul Mullin's agent was an excessive premium. It's quite amusing the comic strip, especially seeing King Charles III - the pen reference is incredibly witty in my opinion. The part which depicts Wrexham's mascot breathing fire on what appears to be Mr Magpie is a bit stupid. "It might be nicer around here if they both clear off.", yes because all this attention generated for the National League hasn't benefitted any other clubs. It hasn't been a positive message for the 5th tier of English football. Still it's funny, just a bit lacking in areas but credit to @Piethagoram for trying to put the point across regarding our spending.
  5. It just occurred to me that we haven't checked in on our members' current mood on PON since 2021. The mood feature is there to give us an added dimension to expressing ourselves, and it’s always interesting to see how it changes over time. So, let’s take a moment to update our moods and share with the community. It’s a great way to connect with others and let them know how you’re feeling. I hope everyone is well, and I look forward to seeing your updates!
  6. I've said this many times in the past, before Alan Hardy bought the club. Recruitment is always better when you stick to one method, but it can't be rush the process or skimp out. The issue that we've struggled with for decades is selling players and, not replacing them wisely. Kyle Wootton departed, we signed Macaulay Langstaff. Cal Roberts was sold, most likely the club knew this before and I feel Sam Austin was signed to give depth. Whilst Aaron Nemane was allowed to step up. When you recruit players others want or, that the club they're with want to keep - 9/10 they're self driven players who are settled and on a natural upward progression. Provided you don't over pay, (which is something Notts seems to be good at avoiding right now - it may not be the case once we start selling players on for a good return) there's a much lower risk. I think Joel Taylor is the only signing we've wasted a fee on, but that isn't a bad thing as such and it isn't predictable. Naturally, as our data of players improves and we get used to spotting dealing - things should continue to improve each and every season. There's no exact science to knowing how players would do at a club, but a good environment and a club all pushing in the same direction does help. I hope we continue to spend modest fees on the right players, it may become harder as and when the club rises up the league. This is natural and again, it's where a potential risk comes into it. Yet for now, there's no reason why our recruitment wouldn't work.
  7. Well done for committing to the course @Megan_Elizax. it will be nice to hopefully see you and @ARLukomski more on match days. As for me, yes, I will be renewing. I will be renewing @super_pie and @callum2569's tickets at the same time. It should be within the next few days.
  8. Although the media promotes that teams with such high point totals are usually promoted, the real takeaway is how we quickly improved from a team that struggled to make the playoffs last year. This season, we have been breaking records and winning like we haven't for years. Usually nearer Christmas the bubble bursts, but not this time. I full-heartedly believe that the players know what it will take and will rise to the occasion. To say that we have been consistent at this level, gives hope that we can be in the next. Whilst it's disappointing in a very minor way, at least for me that we haven't won the league. Seeing the club's progress and the enjoyment of the fan base during watch days is encouraging to me, especially during this pleasurable point in Notts County's history.
  9. Southend United are the type of team that would find the playoffs to their benefit. They've not been the best team, but you can almost guarantee that if they reached the playoffs that it would give them that extra bit of motivation. I wouldn't want them to secure a spot, not unless they played Chesterfield. I do hope Woking finish 2nd, but the way these things are it probably doesn't matter. It's just the preference that makes it more comfortable for my head to process it. I try not to let my heart dictate what I write, but I wouldn't fear Eastleigh, Bromley, Boreham Wood or Barnet.
  10. I have no problem wishing Wrexham and their dedicated fans all the best, despite their challenges both on and off the field. It's for that reason why I don't feel any envy. Both us and them gave the National League a good, solid fight for once, and although we have had some terrible decisions against us that no doubt caused Notts to fall short. That's what football is and, at this level you really just want to enjoy the good seasons whilst they last. Credit to Wrexham for continuing and not giving up before Notts lost to Dagenham & Redbridge at home. Some of their players truly deserve the success, so with that in mind, I want to wish Wrexham all the best. It's a truly amazing story that the two of our clubs have told and I wish you well with your journey next season in League Two.
  11. I don't like many other sports that Nottingham has clubs or teams, I do like Ice Hockey, but I have never seen the Nottingham Panthers. I have expressed a desire to go, maybe one time it doesn't clash with Notts. Cricket is just boring to me, each on their own, but I couldn't sit at a live venue spectating it. I think Notts clashes more with my personal life and, sometimes, I wished I hadn't put my attendance over that. It's hard for us to do things as a family, due to my habit of watching Notts on a Saturday. So, there's not much conflict with other sports. Next season, whilst I will be back on the road - I will be using alternative weekends to spend time doing stuff with my family - quite possibly dragging @super_ram. I am hoping he will join us from time to time at games, as I know @super_pie would love that just as much as I would.
  12. I haven't renewed, but I will be in the coming days.
  13. Any pitty points going? I'm drowning with this awful rounds, I fear the dreaded call or e-mail from the chairman any day now.
  14. Our defence let us down on their second goal. I am not sure what more defensively could've been done about Maidstone's opener, but they had an urge from that which caused some issues. I've muted the audio, jesus I can still hear the commentary! Whoever captured the opening and the walk out, it was either an ant or someone kneeling. I think it's a fair point, that in this league some clubs struggle to find the balance between attack and defending, I think many teams realise that attacking wins games and have therefore neglected the height benefits of a tall defender. Our those typical no-nonsense defenders that intimidate players due to how physical they can be. Maidstone looked good on the ball going forward, Notts needs to learn to remained focused better.
  15. All excellent goals, Jim's first was an excellent strike. He's been close in previous games, and it's felt like it has been building up but to score 3 goals - yes one is a penalty but imagine the pressure with securing your second career hat trick. Anyway, it's magic right now.
  16. Well, I wasn't sure I expected that result, and it's interesting to read the comments shared by @menzinho. Matt Palmer's work in football often goes unnoticed: he presses the opposing teams, sets the pace, and handles mistakes productively to get the ball moving forward. I used Google to check in and saw that Cedwyn Scott had scored - that should be great for his confidence. I left the page on and noticed the 2nd, I thought the third was scored by Connell Rawlinson has seen a great with his face on whilst browsing Facebook. No idea if that actually happened, if I dreamt it or if it was something to do with one of those overseas supporter groups. The final result is great, the two goals they scored would leave a few questions for Luke Williams. Yet as Menzinho expressed, if we have someone deep like John Bostock it should be fine. Ftank Vincent is clearly more attacking minded, I know when he joined he said he can do the defensive side of the game, but he's by far better in attacking plays.
  17. I am in agreement with every comment before mine. @Joshua's point about shining a light is valid. Although Wrexham fans and others may believe that the pressure is on us, if we concentrate on the positives and strive for promotion, I don't think the expectations will only be on us, but also on those we compete against.
  18. Just a joy to see the players expressing them, despite what looked like an absoultely awful pitch. I praise Luke Williams for provoking this reaction from the team and, I encourage all of them to continue this. Winning 5-2 is awesome, but we have 2 very big games coming, we must make it a 3rd and win at Wembley.
  19. @super_ram Charlie Palmer was a defender, so he would've been ruled out at the very beginning. Having written about Jeff Astle, if it wasn't for the year of birth I would've said it was him, Mick Vinter too, but ruled out for the same reason as Astle. Lawrie Dudfield is also ruled out. I'm not sure how many clubs or fans would call him a legend though. I thought he was a good player, mind.
  20. This sort of thing applies for every club, but the more unique things are being the world's oldest professional football club (previously the world's oldest football league club). Our famous chant about a broken wheelbarrow. Jimmy Sirrel, our legendary Scottish manager, had a deep passion for the black and white colours. Also, our connection with Juventus after being given our kits and then them inviting us to their grand stadium opening. Other than that, I think around the age of 5, I started expressing an interest in going to see Derby play with @super_ram. I would've been maybe 7, the first time I attended a game, which my grandfather took me too. Supporting Notts has always been about family. I recall trips in the early 90s to Wembley both in the playoffs and in the Anglo Italian Cup. 95, 97 and 99 were the years I attended a handful of games whenever my grandfather could get to games. The game between Notts and Arsenal, after they bought Jermaine Pennent off us, is one of my favourite games even though it was a friendly. My brother used to take my son from the age of a baby, due to me being at work but on occasions I did get but very rarely. It was 07/08 when I managed to get to more games, then the incredible time we have with winning League 2, dubbed the Munto era.
  21. He did okay for Swindon and Forest Green Rovers, I seem to recall him playing against us at one point. I know at FGR, some of their fans didn't believe he was worth the salary he was reportedly earning. Decent midfielder but it's surprising to see he hasn't scored more goals. I usually signed him on Football Manager 2015, he'd improve to be a key player and would score a few goals a season. When I saw him play, he seemed talented but lacked polished fundamentals.
  22. Hull City 0-2 Watford (Joker) Norwich City 1-0 Swansea City Peterborough United 2-2 Ipswich Town Port Vale 1-0 Bristol Rovers Hartlepool United 3-1 Crawley Town Mansfield Town 1-1 Stevenage Eastleigh 0-2 Solihull Moors York City 1-0 Aldershot
  23. I feel sorry for him, he's stuck in a team that has a very large squad. He's done well in parts of his career, but hasn't made many appearances to Wiki and World Football. He would probably revive his career by coming back to England and settle in a League Two team. I remember some time ago, seeing a great al he scored for one of the earlier French teams he played for after his time ended here. I'll try to find it and share it here, it was very classy.
  24. I believe so, as well @Fozzy. I think the issue with plastic artificial grass is that it can slow the ball down, whilst making it more effort to play on. It's not something I think this squad will worry about, although there does become that risk of it causing injuries. If Notts can pass the ball around, whilst waiting the game to open up and then hit them with that aggressive free flowing passing that we usually see in the second half at Meadow Lane, I can see it being a decent trip for us. Aaron Nemane should find plenty of space at the back to put in those crosses he likes to make, provided he starts. I thought he made a real impact coming off the bench against Woking, he also seemed a bit more focused on defending which was nice. I am hoping Langstaff can get another, I know how desperately he wants to hit 50 goals in a Notts shirt. Which is very unlikely to be made in the last two games, but there's a chance if we include the playoffs. It would also be nice to see Sam Austin continue his form, dropping him for the bench right now would seem like a waste when he's on fire.
  25. I have always lived in Aspley, Nottingham. I currently live 4.8 miles away from Meadow Lane, funnily enough when I lived with my parents it would've been closer to 5 miles. I made a bad decision to move to this other terrible address for a brief time, but luckily, my parents let us stay with them until we purchased our current house. When staying there, I would've been 5.6 miles away. I'm very local to my roots.
