  1. With the remaining three fixtures, how would you approach them if you were Luke Williams? Would you consider resting some of the key players? For example, Ruben Rodrigues, Adam Chicksen, and Sam Slocombe? Perhaps allow some of the fringe players to get some game time whilst they rested for the playoffs. If not, do you feel it's important to continue playing the same squad for consistency purposes? Keep the form going, allow the players to see out their form and hope that they're ready for the next stage of our season. Do you feel the title is still up for grabs? It is possible, although unlikely, that Wrexham may slip. So how do we proceed from this point in your opinion?
  2. Wrexham can't sustain their current pressure and pace, so we must be mindful of our passes and avoid rushing when a Wrexham player is near. Paul Mullin just dived trying to claim a penalty, BT Sports claimed it was a clear decision in favour of Wrexham but all Kyle Cameron did was reach. Minimal contact, yet Mullin had already started to go backwards before being touched. Ollie Palmer going down by the slightest touch from Matt Palmer minutes before Mullin did in the penalty box shows Wrexham's antics. I would personally welcome seeing more patient passing from Notts, just give tidy touches and make space. Frustrate them a little and just see how things open up, instead of just losing the ball. Wrexham are defending quite okay so far. We look a little nervous at the back but are doing fine as of now.
  3. In our home game against Wrexham, Notts put pressure on them from the start to finish. They gave us a lot more time on the ball than I expect them to do today, whilst I think they'll focus on the counter and set pieces. I do think they'll aim to retain the ball a lot more and just be patient with moving it forward. This is something Notts does quite well themselves. We need to make sure that defensively the keeper, whoever this may be, is protected and that any possible chance is blocked effectively. I don't feel as nervous about the game, I believe 100% in this set of Notts players and, whatever the outcome, I am extremely proud of them. If things go right for us, then we'll see incredible scenes. I hope that all the fans who managed to get tickets, go and enjoy the day. Make us proud, back the lads vocally for 90% and a BIG YOUUUU PIIIEEESSS!
  4. 1 point, I'll pretend it's game changing.
  5. It's ironic that a US media outlet has to report the truth about a two-horse race, while the UK largely follows a different narrative. I can't speak for other US based papers etc. They probably prefer Hollywood's coverage of making Wrexham famous again and bringing in new investment to revive the non-League team. Our story is more intriguing because we've accomplished what most can only dream of. The competition is between two sport-loving brothers and two random film stars. I mean, the backdrop of Nottingham is vastly more interesting than Wrexham. That said, I bet the New York Times has suddenly got a lot of Nottingham and UK based registrations.
  6. Last I knew, he had left Walsall for Bradford City. I thought he would go on to play more in the Championship, but it seems his career has a lot more going on than his potential. Playing in the Welsh league isn't that great. If it was Irish league I wouldn't say it was all that bad. What a waste for a 29-year-old.
  7. Birmingham City 0-3 Stoke City Coventry City 1-0 Watford Fleetwood Town 1-1 Bristol Rovers Port Vale 2-0 Oxford United Colchester United 1-2 Crewe Alexandra Tranmere Rovers 2-0 Swindon Town Bromley 0-0 Boreham Wood Wealdstone 0-2 Solihull Moors (Joker)
  8. It's going to be a tough game for both teams, I feel. I can see Wrexham wanting to take the game to Notts, I can't see them allowing us much freedom on their home soil. If they press Notts, we need to make sure we don't allow them too much space, it's important that we force them to be more defensive than ourselves. It's a game where we could ideally do with Sam Slocombe's experience. I am sure Archie Mair or Tiernan Brooks will do just fine, it would just be a blessing to go back to full strength in the goalkeeper department. I don't expect Sam to make his return, but so I do expect Archie to start. He's grown in confidence and I hope he enjoys the occasion. With it being live on BT Sports, there will be pressure through the two squads. We just need to play our best game and hopefully get the result needed to maintain the top spot.
  9. Aye, both Langstaff and Austin could've had braces each. Chicksen made a cross but their defender sliced the ball. Sadly, nobody paid attention and the ball didn't end up in the net. I felt sorry when Langstaff hit the post, I thought it was in at first! I'm even happier for Vincent, he did well going into the position and gave his all.
  10. I don't think I can write a single commentary word about Wealdstone, they're quite clearly punching above their weight and looked extremely boring to watch. They really didn't turn up and, I honestly expected better from them. Defensively, they were all over the place and instead of clearing the danger they would just put the ball out to the nearest possible point. This doesn't remove pressure; it asserts it and gives the team you're playing more time to pressure you. Notts could've had at least 5 goals in the first half and, I think I may have one slightly backhanded comment for them. Sam Howes pulled off a couple of fantastic saves, yet his whole attitude stunk and quite early on - I shouted "Alright, Joe Hart. Calm down." He was probably the best part of their performance as otherwise they looked like a team in the Sunday league. Our pressure and ball retrieval were relentless. The other team was so clumsy in possession that even Maculay Langstaff managed to steal the ball for our first goal. Sam Austin deserved and executed the goal brilliantly. He could've had a second not long after if it wasn't for Howes saving the effort. Wealdstone are clearly doing something right to be where they are in the league and, I hoped I would see a glimmer of that. Perhaps they're just in a spell of poor form? I don't know about that, but they were rubbish from start to finish, and I feel they're one of the poorest teams we've played at home. A lot worse than Southend, Scunthorpe United or Maidstone United combined. My man of the match would've been Jodi Jones or maybe Matt Palmer.
  11. Blackburn Rovers 2-0 Norwich City (Joker) Blackpool 1-1 Cardiff City Bristol Rovers 1-3 Charlton Athletic Lincoln City 2-1 Cheltenham Town Gillingham 0-0 Doncaster Rovers Harrogate Town 0-1 AFC Wimbledon Barnet 2-1 Bromley Oldham Athletic 1-0 Altrincham
  12. I can't wait for this game; it should hopefully set up the Wrexham game nicely. Imagine if Halifax manage to cause an upset, and we pick up a win, to bridge back some of that gap between us and Wrexham. If it happened, it would make the Easter Monday game all the more entertaining. We can wish and hope for this to happen. I hope this game will be quite normal, if we pass the ball around and do not have to change halves at the start, we will have a good attacking game in the second half.
  13. Undisclosed fee paid too, we'll have to keep track on how he does from here.
  14. I've re-watched it several times and, I have grown less bothered by the quick free kick. It is the responsibility of the referee and officials to ensure that no advantage is given, especially since the free kick was awarded for a rather soft decision that may have irritated them even more. Upon closer examination of the footage, it becomes clear that the opposing team's players should have assumed a defensive position as soon as Bostock put the ball down. One could argue that the free kick was taken from an incorrect position, and although Notts County's strategy was clever, any fault should ultimately be attributed to the referee.
  15. I watched it on the day, on YouTube. He spoke well, and I think the first goal quite rightly annoyed him. I don't think officials should allow a quick free kick to be taken where there's a level of an unfair advantage. I have seen refs bring play back, due to the opposition not being ready and from a much greater distance. If the first goal didn't annoy him, I would question why not. Very fair views and opinions by him.
  16. I didn't know Jason, though he spoke to me a few times in passing. He always came across as a bubbly person, who was very focused on his tasks in a very clear way. It was obvious just how much he loved the club. It's very sad news, 50 is no age. It makes me want to enjoy life a lot more, as it hits home. For those who knew him well, take in moments to cherish those memories you had with Jason and, just know how much his passing has rippled through the footballing world. Rest in Peace, Jason Turner.
  17. Unfortunately, football is unpredictable and good/bad intentions often ruin clubs.
  18. It's a very poor penalty, their player didn't seem to strike the ball with much confidence. Perhaps, Mair put him off? It's possible, but I still think it's a good save because of the quick reaction. He could've easily got it wrong.
  19. The main takeaway from this for me, is how can anyone invest in a football club without it being obvious or known from the start? I mean, surely someone in authority somewhere would've noticed before now? Then again, did this happen and the media or person held back for when it could create the most impressions. Football's extremely dark.
  20. Norwich City 2-2 Sheffield United West Bromwich Albion 3-1 Millwall (Joker) Charlton Athletic 2-0 Shrewsbury Town Derby County 1-2 Ipswich Town Colchester United 0-0 Newport County Northampton Town 0-1 Stevenage Bromley 1-1 Solihull Moors Scunthorpe United 2-1 Torquay United
  21. Maybe, @Dan might consider sharing some of the better clippings or spreads that his pictures get. It seems to generate a healthy response and from the community aspect it is nice to see. I always look at when he shares his pictures on Facebook, but I know some members do not. Either way, it's a great spread. It's just a shame that it might be true of how good we've done, that ultimately the dice will rely on us navigating the playoff. Yet at least we have given ourselves the strongest start.
  22. Sam Slocombe - Keep (Offer a standard 2-year-deal) Kyle Cameron - Keep (Off a 2-year-deal with the option to extend to a third) Connell Rawlinson - Keep (Offer a rolling one-year-deal) Adam Chicksen - Keep (Offer a standard 3-year-deal) Jim O'Brien - Keep (Offer a one-year-deal) Frank Vincent - Keep (Offer a one-year-deal) Aaron Nemane - Keep (Offer a 2-year deal) Ruben Rodrigues - Keep (Offer a 3-year-deal) There have been rumours that Jim O'Brien will retire at the end of this season. I am of the opinion that he will continue to be an important player. Just as a rotational/occasional starter, as I do think people who say he has nothing to offer and is 'past it' are wrong. I mean, some of these most likely wanted Michael Doyle to be given a 5-year-deal at the age of 39. I just think his experience would be useful, especially if we are to return to League Two. Heck, I might be being slightly nostalgic, but I think it would come full circle with his time here. Sam Slocombe, Kyle Cameron, Adam Chicksen, Aaron Nemane and Ruben Rodrigues are all key, core players. Players that fit our system, they know what we are aiming for and are a collective part of the reason why we're in a promotion race. Slocombe is fine for another 2 years, at 34 I doubt we could sign a better experienced keeper. Cameron and Ruben are two key areas of our squad, areas which have improved a lot under their time here. Nemane has shined in the replacement of Cal Roberts, it would be hard to see us find a strong replacement if he decided to leave. Rawlinson is a difficult one because there's been times when he looked like he wasn't going to feature much, but I do think he's a good player. I can imagine we will be looking to sign another CB, so that would leave him fighting for a starting position and further down the pecking order. Vincent's time might have sailed, I wished we could get the player that came in during the time Roberts was out sidelined. He looked effective going forward, he moved and linked, floating around the pitch in a way that made me look increasingly dangerous by the touch. The issue is, he last his place and then ended up being shipped out on loan. I think the truth behind Ed Francis being pushed out, is so that Luke Williams can give Vincent a spell to see if he's worth retaining. We haven't actually seen him do much, though he's tried and despite this I still think he could prove himself to be worthwhile.
  23. They're flaky as a team, but I think perform better at home, which you would expect. They've only won two of their last five games, which the rest were defeats. Southend and York are the two teams they beat, plus they can score goals which may put pressure on us depending on who starts in goal. I must admit, I like Brooks and feel nervous viewing Mair - yet we can protect whoever starts by ensuring we are defensively setup, without limiting ourselves going forward. It just means some players must stay back, then the rest need to regroup as quickly as possible. We're relying on the key players as a team right now, even though we're performing okay as a squad. Away from home we haven't quite been the same since we lost our second game a few weeks back, so it's time to get the away form back on and to keep the pressure on Wrexham. 2nd place, is a great achievement, so many successful sspects each of the players and club can take away.
  24. I'm happy, but I did think I would be onto a higher score with my predictions this round.
  25. a-hoy, there @AmericanPie! It's great to see you're well enough and are back. I hope you manage to pick up from when you were last here.
