  1. I noticed this on Facebook today, I could have sworn the building was Jake's college.
  2. Well, there are things they can do to relax and take the strain off. I am sure many other countries had players who have had a competitive amount of football. The international games used to signify a break, but I also think this is where a strong squad comes in because you can rest some by starting others. @Robbie is right, it won't change though. Plus there will always be a level of excuses, which some might have some form of truth, but it's an easy thing to say in defence. If I were able to still play, I'd love to play so often.
  3. I had hoped to make some of the pre-season friendlies, but for one reason or another I haven't managed it. York is a very interesting place to visit. Oddly enough last night Cheeky had an old episode of 'Who wants to be a millionaire on' and a question came up about which city is known for its gothic architecture. The only time I have been to York was on a school trip to the Viking museum. It would have been nice to have a look around, as @liampie mentioned just to take in the sights before the game. I would love to see Jodi Jones play as an attacking midfielder, with two other players making up our wing backs. I think we could afford to have him being the player who splits up the opposition's defence. He'll naturally pick up marks, which is he playing his direct game can see him support the left and right side, allowing space to open up for others. Also, it would give him a chance to get shots on target from outside the box - something which I would like to see more in the actual season coming up. It might free up David McGoldrick to make an impact when coming on or starting, as we wouldn't have to play him all the time. I think it might help with his form, because he does try, he just wasn't very impactful when we struggled, which is somewhat natural. I'm also curious to see if Curtis Edwards starts, as I am hearing a lot of good things about his creativity.
  4. Whilst subscribing and donations go towards the sites upkeep, and most recently has been reinvested in having in new features/enhancements. There's many ways that people can help and, it's not all about money. Although from time to time this area needs promoting and, it's not because we don't appreciate people who post, share, read etc. All this helps us out greatly. I try not to over mention the subscriptions, as I am mindful that not everyone can or will and I don't want to drive any type of support away from the site. Yet, from time to time I do, as it is very important. I'm always encouraging people to get involved, I think many of our discussions are very informative and we can only grow stronger once we are in season. With me trying to organise things, along with various appointments in real life I have been a little busy but I know just how important publishing articles is - as is keeping an active presence on social media. This said, I do value that most people understand that life gets in the way - especially with regards to social media. It used to be something I would never miss, including family birthdays, holidays etc. I would always be doing stuff, but most will understand that isn't always practical. I feel very humbled people see what I am trying to do with PON. I'm pleased you are a happy subscriber, Tone. We're very thankful, as I worried that the subscription plans wouldn't be all that interesting and a lot harder to go from one person to more. Not everyone can afford to part ways with money, especially with the cost of living and that is something which makes me more motivated. In addition to be extremely thankful. Yes, it's took a load of pressure off and reinvesting a lot of it so far has been very rewarding. I feel it's important for people to see how it makes a difference. The online store is very useful, though I need to figure how to get fans to help promote this via the word of mouth. In addition, to promoting things from time to time.
  5. @Robbie: I have been a member of a few communities that didn't allow you to edit anything, which I never understood. It's not like the feature wasn't widely adopted by forum software companies. There's benefits to SEO, if errors are also reduced. So, there's certainly good points about leaving it open.
  6. Today, I went with Jake to go do some gardening with @super_ram. I cut down some of the overgrowing branches from the trees in the front garden, we had a fun time trimming them back and then breaking everything down into a sizeable amount that can eventually go out with the gardening waste. Super, certainly will be giving the council's his monies worth now we have to pay for this service. The difference allows a lot more light into the living room, plus Super should be able to see who comes up more clearly and less obstructed. Meaning, he'll be able to spy on events and nosy at what might be happening. @Robbie - I hope you're okay, going to the A&E can be quite prolonging but hopefully they sorted you out. It sounds like they gave you something for your reason to go, so I hope it's making a positive impact.
  7. I believe @Fan of Big Tone has done or will do, he pays on a game-by-game basis. I won't be, as I have a season ticket, but I think my friend who has joined me in the KOP and kindly takes me out to away games will most likely sign his partner up. She comes to a fair amount of games, so it could save them a bit of cash, and you only have to make a certain amount to make the membership fee worthwhile. This is a brilliant offer from the club, something some fans have wanted for seasons, and it's good to see it implemented.
  8. John Bostock is a very good player, I think last season is less than a sign of his ability but more a loss of form. It's clear that Luke Williams managed to lift certain players, and Bostock is no different. He always spoke very highly of Williams, so his departure would have been massive on him. He arrived at Notts, and revived his career to the point I didn't foresee his release. Had you told me immediately after we gained promotion back to the EFL, I wouldn't believe just a season later we would let him go. I think he's easily someone who could be used in a rotational system. I also don't think he would have wanted to leave; I believe it to be fully our decision. Maybe, an unfortunate victim of the way Stuart Maynard sees things in the areas that the club needs to improve. It might be unpopular, but I would rather have Johnny Bostock than David McGoldrick. However, one of them has the ability to prove me wrong. For the other, success can only be achieved in a different environment.
  9. @Wheelbarrow repair man Colin Slater told me that he didn't believe Notts had any connections to The Lamb gang. I have spoken to a lot of club historians and knowledgable people and I do believe it was more down to footballing reasons. With Notts having played in what I was told was a plain white shirt before 1891. It's a good job we didn't re-think our nickname in 1936; we could be called 'The Free Birds' or the "Burgulars". Obviously a joke, but I have always thought it was interesting how we went from a white shirt, to a bumblebee orange and black horizontal stripe kit, to what looks like the Netherlands to the infamous chocolate kit. I think it's an obvious sign that we were experimenting and trying to find our real identity.
  10. Jackie Sewell also used to regularly attend Notts games, which is a testament to his greatness and love for Notts. @Fan of Big Tone is needed to add his greats to this.
  11. I don't want to repeat what I wrote, but this is what I believe to be the case. There's many old pictures of Lambs being used to maintain the grass of Meadow Lane's pitch. Commonly, the easiest ones to find are from around 1950s though.
  12. Don Masson is undeniably a Notts County legend, just like Tommy Lawton, I would argue. I have heard many stories about Lawton, and I think we can consider ourselves lucky that we have had so many great players at Notts. There's probably no such thing as the greatest, but greats instead.
  13. Life is always more difficult than it appears via text and screen, I know this has been troubling you for some time. I am also aware that you have an incredible passion for your content and talking about Notts, this is something you do well and put across your knowledge productively. You can develop burnouts from the demand, I did with Meet the Fans and much of the video content I used to do, but I would be lying if I didn't say I missed it. You've done right by putting yourself first at times, but as I have mentioned, it's only you who can decide about your channel's fate. Taking a hiatus for a season wouldn't be a bad thing, the majority of fans would still be there when you return and a break could do you wonders. You might feel the urge to continue vlogging with the promise of this upcoming season and there will always be disappointment one way or another. If Notts ends up having a good season, and you vlog - you will have documented it through the eyes of a fan. If you didn't, it may add to your regrets. Neither really matters because it's how you feel which comes first. I'm speaking from experience when I say taking time away from something you care immensely about can be overwhelming, I have had low points and I regret battling through them without taking time to myself. Likewise, there have been times when I did take time and coming back felt much harder than going. I have mentioned how @GrannyPie had kept encouraging me to return to PON's social media. It felt difficult, as if I had to give answers, I really didn't. The issue is, what prompted my return wasn't right for me in the end. I needed to take further time off, including the site, just to re-find myself. This isn't about me, however, I can draw comparisons and the point I am trying to make is you need to trust your own judgement. You were pretty timid and reserved when I first met you, but I have seen you grow in confidence and flourish as a person. I know you have had many challenging moments, that's just what life throws at us. You will always be the same person, with or without your YouTube channel. I meant what I said to you yesterday, I am always a message away, and you have never been a burden on me. I think you may want to take some time to think things over, maybe consider delaying your return to vlogging but only if it's unnecessary stress to you. Just remember the positives you get and outweigh things with how you feel. Your friends will still be there for you, just as I will be.
  14. You make a valid point about Junior Morias. He had some time and performed decently, but he was frequently reported as injured or carrying a knock. When we were linked with Jatta, it appeared to be a move to potentially provide cover for Macaulay Langstaff and also to give him additional support up front. Morias seems to be a very fast player, so we now have players with different qualities.
  15. I think some people think it's banter, but in fact it's sickening. I think these days, a lot of stuff which isn't "banter" gets given that title as an attempt to make it acceptable or to normalise it. I have been at games where I have heard these types of chants and comments. Ideally more banning orders would be given.
  16. I also understand why some fans are unsure about Stuart Maynard, and I prefer to read rational thoughts like this. Certainly I feel Maynard has to win more fans over, but heading into this season we have the ability to forget the poor form of last season. I strongly believe that Luke Williams wouldn't have changed much. Our players were tired and much of the reasons why I feel Maynard suffered is outlined in the embedded post I made back in June. None of the current friendlies should concern anyone, as they are just training sessions against another team. I am hopeful that Notts can get off to a good start, then fans might see things are improving. The signings we have made should improve the defensive issues we saw last season, making us better going forward because we should attack with confidence. Maynard has a good squad, Notts has shown faith in him and I will personally review things at least 12 games into the season. The squad needs to adjust to the changes and all the new recruits need to settle in, so we might have a transitional period where results might not go our way. Ideally, we will see Maynard show more decisiveness during games. This is one area, I believe he could be better but with tired players and a weaker bench - it does limit what can be done. I am looking forward to the season ahead, I believe it should be a good one for us.
  17. This sounds like a very unfortunate thing to have experienced, very harsh to have built up the excitement and then let you down @Wheelbarrow repair man. In this day and age, I doubt they would have got away with keeping quiet, plus any player worth their salt upon hearing about something like this no doubt would have tried to reach out. It's not right, and I can understand the disappointment leading to a very unhappy memory. Different scenario, but it reminded me of an experience I had when I was younger. My grandfather Ray, he would come round for Sunday dinner with my grandmother. Super would cook the dinner, and we would all eat in the living room. I have fond memories of this, looking out at the back of the front garden sitting on the sofa waiting to see his car park up. Every Sunday, he would bring a chocolate bar and a can of pop for me and my brother each. My Grandfather, loved Lilt, and he would often try to get me to drink it. I really wasn't a fan of the taste, but grew to love it. One of the chocolate bars he gave to me and my brother, it had the chance of winning various electrical devices. One of which was a state-of-art CD player. To my surprise, the bar I had taken upon opening the wrapper said I was a winner. I recall waiting ages to learn as to what and when I would receive my prize. I do remember, being told by my parents that they didn't have any more prizes or the item I had won wasn't something they could deliver on. I thought, we wouldn't see anything of it and I felt disappointed. Yet they did send out a CD player by Sony which was supposed to be worth a lot more than the one I would have won. It was our first CD player, my dad and mum has a massive collection of tapes and other older media formats. Yet CDs seemed such a futuristic step forward. I used to listen to my tape player often, but I hated rewinding and when the tape would get jammed. Sooner after getting the CD player, we as a family started obtaining more albums that we could play on it, my brother collected a magazine aimed to teach young people about classical music.
  18. I can't tell if this is the building which is now @super_pie's college. I found this article searching: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-nottinghamshire-68167056 Looking at Street View, it does look to be the same building Jake goes to now. I know it used to be a night club, though I have never been into that. I don't like the night life scene, I don't see the enjoyment of it.
  19. I have seen him play quite a few times, he looked really good against the likes of Nuneaton and Basford United. Very calm and wanting to take on players, looks to have good feet and nice passing. Some fans I know from Long Eaton said Ryley caught their eye playing for Long Eaton United. This type of youngster needs to be integrated more closely with the first team and given the chance to progress alongside them, if you play at a lower level - personally I think you become used to that standard, and it can lead to not adapting higher up. Whilst I encourage the club to give them some first team experience out on loan, I do think game time in our squad would better support their development.
  20. Hello, welcome to the Pride of Nottingham @Mark Holland. I hope you enjoy being a part of our Notts County community.
  21. Hello, welcome to the Pride of Nottingham @jake008. I hope you enjoy being a part of our Notts County community.
  22. @Fan of Big Tone Can you see any difference? I purged the CloudFlare cache and checked some settings as suggested to me. Re: Editing posts - I'm personally happy with allowing members the ability to edit posts for the long term. I see it as a sign of trust, and so far we haven't had any major issues with posts being edited in all the years we have existed. I realise that there's a chance it could, but most edits are small. Some mistakes won't be noticed, it's very common for a member to write something then dash off. By which point when they come back, someone will have noticed their mistake. If as team members we didn't have log edits for everytime something is changed, I wouldn't permit it. Since we do, I see it as trust building.
  23. At least we know it's cache-related, though it could be anything causing it. I'll speak with Terabyte.
  24. The only issue is this would lose a lot of revenue in the Champions League group stages. It would have a further impact on the broadcasting side, as they won't want to lose the potential coverage that the games offer. It would be good for the players, in principle. However, I think teams just need to be more aware of how frequent players are playing. Squads are usually large enough to make changes, which would reduce the fatigue caused by playing often. Yet, clubs and managers are more inclined to field their strongest squad, but from a development point of few making the odd change in games which aren't as crucial or where other fringe players could keep up, then the obvious answer would be not to over play first team players. The UEFA Nations League should have been introduced with the mindset that nations must only choose x senior players and enforce them to bring in newer talent. This has added more games but the answer to reduce fatigue is to make use of your full squad. For example, if Liverpool are playing a club considered smaller, would playing 3-4 of their fringe/younger players make much difference?
  25. Ha! Almost a military drill. Losing team gets to do twenty press ups... It's a good insight, some of which may be for the camera (not a negative) but it shows the strictness of the training process. All smiles and joking, it's good to see that the group of players are amongst each other. Though someone in the background looks to be struggling with heavy panting. We do need to try not to overdo things in the heat though, yet I am sure this is fully something the coaching team are aware off.
