  1. Yup. Know a few people personally that are unhappy with the way the vaccines are being pushed (me too) and that's their (initial) reason for not getting one. The enforcement thereafter has then pushed them further down the rabbit hole and now they are verging on conspiracy-land, even though some of the negatives/concerns about the vaccine are true, a lot of the claims are nonsense. I know a few countries will and are trying to enforce it at workplaces. No jab = no job. That will coerce a few to get it, but not a lot. Plus, the freedoms it violates and the precedence it sets are terrible. It's a strong indication that the government can take your job if you don't sign up to something they are pushing. Vaccine today, but what tomorrow? Dangerous.
  2. One look at David Schneider's twitter and you can see the type of account. Boring, repeated attacks on Boris Johnson with any weapon they can get hold of (Covid and Brexit the most common). I'm no fan of Boris but these type of accounts and people are generally unhelpful. You imagine David Schneider stood in the middle of a field, in the countryside, by himself, with a mask on, 'to save the NHS'.
  3. Barnet's results have picked up recently; they've beat Torquay, Woking and Maidenhead and drawn with Boreham Wood. By no means a given that we beat them, they are not the same calamity Harry Kewell side we pasted on the opening day.
  4. To try and get a judge on the pandemic and how it evolves it is necessary to filter out the extremes. The extreme to one-side is the anti-vaccine, 'covid doesn't exist', government conspiracy types. On the other side is the place for the hysterical; lockdown forever, social distancing forever, gross over-estimation and exaggeration of hospitalisation/death forecasts. I follow John Campbell on Youtube. He looks at the situation in the UK and globally, presenting stats and offering his opinion. He is quite level-headed and practical about things: https://www.youtube.com/c/Campbellteaching
  5. What's happening throughout continental Europe with regards to mandating (or quasi-mandating) vaccines is abhorrent and illiberal. Unfortunately the people who consider themselves 'liberal' are the ones who are for this type of government enforcement.
  6. Chances of today's game being on? 20%?
  7. Yeah, because China are well known for being transparent.
  8. I have a feeling that Bromley are getting the rub of the green at the minute; I've watched a lot of their highlights and many of their goals are scrambles that somehow finds its way in. No doubt their a good side, but they will have a period where that doesn't stick. Not saying they're a bad side, just a bit unfortunate we got them while their going well.
  9. Pretty much how they got their goal against us: long ball into the box, win the first header then scramble.
  10. Just watched their highlights against Aldershot. They finished with 3 points and a 3-2 win, but judging by the highlights, Aldershot might feel they should've won that. 1st goal is a long throw and scramble. 2nd goal is a corner and Aldershot's keeper throws it into his own net. 3rd goal is a corner turned into a scramble and then a handball and penalty. Could be a very frustrating evening.
  11. This game will show us exactly where the squad is at, I expect.
  12. Listened on the radio. Think it's quite obvious that we still haven't replaced Dennis/Thomas. Too many times are we cutting it back to nobody and taking too many touches in the box. You have Rodrigues and Roberts that both try and do the same thing - pick up the ball in front of the opposition defensive line. It's easy to defend against when they don't have to worry about anybody running beyond them, they rush out in numbers and close down those players on the 18 yard box knowing full well that nobody will run behind them. Wootton is a good player and gets you goals, but clinical finisher he is not. Mitchell, well I'm not quite sure what he is. Oh for a Tshimanga. I know we say we aren't looking at the 'obvious' more expensive options, but clinical strikers that score goals will always demand good money.
  13. Me neither. However there's no point in Sam tracking back if he is gonna float around like that. Close them down! It's the last minute of the game, you're fresh off the bench and trying to prove a point, where's the intensity, passion, desire? Just gives a half-arsed attempt and walks back to the half-way line. Muppet.
  14. Just watched the highlights. 1st goal: DKE doesn't close down effectively and the keeper should be saving that. 2nd goal: Chicksen dashes out when he doesn't need to. DKE does himself no favours getting caught under the ball. 3rd goal: Elisha Sam should never play for Notts again. There, I said it. You can have all the ability in the world (which he doesn't), but when there's nothing between the ears, you're useless.... and he is.
  15. Cameron - Rawlinson - Lacey has got to be our fit starting 3 CBs, surely? Brindley WB one side and Taylor or Chicksen the other.
  16. Listed on the radio and it's not good enough. There's no will or ability to shut up shop and close a game out. Bringing in more youngsters on loan probably hasn't helped us. Why change your defence at 2-0 up? DKE becoming an increasing liability.
  17. This will be a tough game. Woking will be direct and physical and we only have a young CB who isn't all that strong, plus 2 full-backs.
  18. Watched the extended highlights, and just some points I noted that I didn't get from the commentary: - Some of Ed Francis' long balls were sublime. He's got a decent shot on him too. - The elbow is on purpose and a straight red every day of the week. - Rodrigues was 'off' but still did a lot of good link up play. - It's Lacey and Brindley that get in a mess for their 2nd. Lacey steps out and doesn't win the ball and I think Brindley is trying to catch them offside (unsuccessfully). - I think its Wootton that loses his man for their first. - Matty Palmer should be scoring that chance. If he doesn't touch it, Wootton sweeps home his 2nd of the night.
  19. Listened on the radio and it's nail biting stuff. All well and good doing this against Wealdstone, but the better teams in this league won't let us score 3. Still, play badly/OK and picked up 3 points.
  20. Can't believe how direct Wrexham are. It really is just an aerial bombardment from start to finish. It'll work at this level, no doubt, but you expect a team of Hollywood signings to be..... well a little more Hollywood. Thought we defended well in areas you'd expect us to be weak.... long throw-ins, corners. Tozer and those bloody long throws are so tedious. Gets boring watching after a while.
  21. We were too predictable at times. Right to left is all well and good, but we all knew what was going on and who the next pass was to. Sometimes, you have to put the ball in the mixer to keep them guessing and we never tried that, until Chicksen did it and we scored. Strangely, we never tried again. Very frustrating game in the end. Torquay are a one-dimensional side (lump it to Wright and hope for the knock-ons), who time wasted but ran themselves into the ground. Ref should have punished them for the antics but bottled it because of the red already given. I see yesterday they were thumped 4-0... probably as a direct consequence of the effort they put into defending against us, or the cramp - if you are to believe it.
  22. bit late. Perhaps the automation is a bit out of time synch?
  23. The off-season is a special time for many football fans. The first week is a novelty, but many of us begin wondering what exactly we do with our Saturdays now the Euros have finished. Such boredom drives inevitable speculation; who's off-contract, who's sought after, who are we linked with. In the era of social media and the internet, there are vast swathes of people demanding that the players who bedazzled in the league last year be signed up instantly, the galacticos of the non-league, if you will. The thirst for these type of signings are encouraged by the endless stream of anonymous, 'in-the-know', accounts, largely on Twitter these days, who mainly throw enough mud that eventually one will stick; cue the many incorrect predictions being quickly tidied up. For those football manager fans, my personal approach was to go heavy on the scouting, sign the best players, regardless of position, knowing they'll be good enough, or decent enough, even if not entirely in the position they like best. Reality is somewhat different. 'Philosophy' or 'club culture' are the latest buzz-words for a rather simple thing - how does the club prefer to play football. It's relatively new for us here at Notts, as our style used to change in synchronisation with our manager - roughly every 6 months (or less). More than most clubs, the Notts pendulum used to swing from one side to the other, without so much as a pause to think about exactly what we are doing and where we are going. Derry: defensive, rigid, direct - to Moniz: attacking, fluid, reckless. Without diving down the rabbit hole of why and how this all happened, the inevitability is that with such drastic and instantaneous changes in style, you will find yourself with players that simply don't suite the new one. It seems that tide has turned, however. A change of manager has brought in a change of tactics and play, but the style is largely similar. There're no players that were well-suited to the previous manager that couldn't have done a similar job with the new one. This brings in a new factor to consider for our transfer policy - do we target players that are the best we can attract, or do we target the best players in the positions and roles that we need? Sonny Carey. Brilliant player. Ripped us apart when we played KL. If you ignore the fact he has gone higher up the leagues, the next question is, where would we play him, or more importantly, who would you drop to play him? If we are sticking with 3-5-2, there are two striking positions and three central midfield positions. Assuming one of those strikers will be Wootton, who plays close to him? Roberts? Rodrigues? If they're both playing, one of them (probably Rodrigues) will be the advanced man in that central 3. You'd be very exposed if 2 of your central 3 were pretty much attacking midfielders, should you incorporate a Carey, or Carey-like player. Another name that came up regularly was Rhys Oates; primarily a winger. We've made 3 signings so far, and they all convey to me the same message - we know the type of player we wanted, and we've got what we think will be a good fit. A summary of what we were missing, prior to these signings: A Michael Doyle. Left-footed, central midfielder who can dictate the game through his passing ability. Capable of the killer ball. A left-sided CB, ideally left-footed, who can step out and play with the ball at his feet. A left wing back who can attack. Chicksen is solid and technically gifted, but not a winger type. We needed a more attacking LWB to replace Miller. The three players we've signed, so far, seem to be role and positionally ideal (at least theoretically). The next question that naturally springs to mind is then what to expect from the further signings? For that, it's best to analyse what we have: Noticeable is the scope for interpretation. Does 3 at the back mean this is how we line-up? Certainly not, but I've gone with more or less how we featured at the end of last season. Secondly is just how attacking or defensive this formation varies hugely with personnel, start JOB instead of Rodrigues, Chicksen at LWB, and we all of a sudden look quite solid. Change that up and have Rodrigues, Roberts and Wootton as a quasi-front 3 with Taylor running from the wings, then we start looking dangerous, albeit a bit open. It can be assumed, I think, that those positions and players can be flexible depending on opposition or scoreline. For the future signings, I'm not expecting any attacking midfielders or wingers. My personal thoughts are: Defensive-minded, or tenacious central midfielder who can still play. Neal Bishop type would be perfect. All-round central midfielder. No special leanings one way or the other. Reeves loosely could be pigeon-holed in this category. A striker to compete and at times partner Wootton. Doesn't necessarily have to be the same type as Wootton. A RWB that attacks. Brindley and DKE are solid at this level, but neither are ones to unlock defences. A backup centre back. While Brindley and Chicksen performed amicably last season, playing a back 3 with only 3 established CB's is a big risk. 24. I was expecting more from Torquay (for them to come out and play) but thought they were poor and conservative, and I know I'm saying that after they've put 4 past us. Chesterfield and Torquay essentially did the same thing - set pieces, counter attack, else defend. Torquay at least had a bit more class and weren't cheating/wasting time from minute 1 like Chesterfield. I expect the winner of Stockport/Hartlepool to go up.
