All this "I would have rather had an English manager" is a fairytale belief because there are few good enough English managers ready for such a big appointment. Unfortunately, this is just how it is. While I would love to see Eddie Howe in the role, he has plenty of time yet for this to happen. If not Howe, then who? Lee Carsley was an interesting decision, but I don't think the F.A wanted him either. All this complaining is part of the issue with England. We have a manager now, and we need to get on with it.

It was a tough loss to watch, especially when the lads showed so much promise early on. The disallowed offside goal feels like a sore point, understandably, but it can’t overshadow the bigger issue of squandered chances. It’s evident Maynard’s tactical decisions have brought about better gameplay so far, minus the finishing touch. With key players out, and the team structure constantly changing, everyone’s having to adjust on the fly, which is commendable. We’ve seen this happen often, our injured could come back to provide the spark we need. The Chesterfield match looms large, not just for standings but for pride as well.

I thought there were some good performers yesterday. Kellan Gordon did well on the wing and put in some nice balls to Jatta. I couldn’t understand why we didn’t throw more bodies into the Port Vale area instead of hoping one player could change the outcome. My vote goes to Dan Crowley.

Notts needed David McGoldrick today. I don’t know why we are so afraid to test the keeper from distance. The passing is encouraging at times, and our midfield is one of the best, but we didn’t play to Jatta’s strengths enough. He didn’t look like he would change things. It’s not his fault; it’s how we attacked as a team. He’s not a striker who involves himself non-stop until he pulls a chance off. You have to provide him with the chance to score by playing him into threatening areas.

Over the years, Notts have had some stunning away shirts that have stuck in my memory from watching the players. One of our famous kits, which looked like Norwich City's, was a lovely one and is now considered a classic. I don’t mind what shirt or kit we wear, as long as we perform well in it.

The defeat to Gillingham and our injuries have set back our performances, but we haven’t been that bad. I believe Carlisle will be more organised and a bigger threat on goal, but we need to make our greater possession count. We have the players, so it will be interesting to see how Stuart Maynard approaches it.

A few players performed really well. It wasn’t so much about individual performances, but as a team, nothing quite clicked when it mattered. I have voted for David McGoldrick.

I think it’s good that the club has decided to bring someone in, and finding a player with this kind of experience at this stage is a good thing. I was wondering if an attacking option would come in because Cedwyn Scott is out, as a way not to rush him back. A winger does give some cover, but I thought Kellan Gordon would fill that role. It’s good for depth, but it does leave some questions.

That doesn’t make him a genius though. If you are aware of how he speaks and acts, you will have realised he has a very limited vocabulary. Writing a book as a famous person would most likely sell. There have been many celebrities considered to be not quite smart, to be polite, who have written more than one book to land on the best sellers list. Making a fool out of yourself in Morecambe, after losing a big fight that you claimed in a press conference you had won, and saying people only gave the win because his opponent’s nationality is at war, further highlights the lack of brain cells.

We need our regular starters to be at their very best. I think Kellan Gordon should cover Jodi’s absence well. He looks to have a good cross on him and he works hard, so I see that as no real concern at the moment. I hope he uses the time to show he’s more than a squad member. With his goal in the EFL Trophy against Burton, I think he’ll be keen to get another goal to his name. Notts should remain largely unchanged from the Gillingham game.

Yes, I have heard the stories about some of the cups and trophies being melted down for scrap. There was talk that some had been taken during the sale to the supporters’ group. I doubt we’ll ever know the truth, but it’s a sad part of the club’s history.

I don’t remember Jack Barmby at all. I do recall us taking him on loan from Leicester City, I think it was, but as to how he did, it’s gone now.

I wish Ricardo Moniz all the best. He looks super fancy in that suit. It’s nice to see him wear something that makes him stand out more. I wonder if he wears his pilot jacket still?

It sounds like the Morecambe fan has already given Notts the points. Defensively, Notts might be in a better position, but we can’t underestimate them. Control the game and play our usual approach. Hopefully, we come away with the points without leaving Morecambe in a worse state. Out of the teams in League Two, they are not one I wish relegation on. It’s always made for a great away game.

I am pleased with the win. The EFL Trophy doesn’t mean much to me, but I am delighted that Stuart Maynard gave several youngsters a chance. They performed well, especially against more experienced players. Robbie Cundy doesn’t seem to be the best signing we’ve made.
