  1. He could be getting some vital experience in our pre-season, with just a week before we play Alfreton Town. Will the club be able to find a suitable number one before the German tour? I am sure they have a list of keepers, and I do like seeing young prospects given a chance. Attracting interest from Palace and Forest suggests he's got character and something special; I just hope we can bring it out more.

  2. I wished I could make it, but with work and the three games, I would have to take holidays at work, and they wouldn't grant them in time for me to confirm this. @liampie did ask very early, but even then I have to give several months notice for things like this. It's a shame because the guide makes it seem even more fun than when Notts confirmed the mini tour in Germany. One day I will get to watch Notts and drink German beer, whilst watching us outside of the United Kingdom, of course!

All the best to those travelling!

  3. Just seen @ARLukomski mention that its been mentioned the fee was around Β£450,000 which is still relatively low for someone who has proved himself to be a good League Two keeper. His time at AFC Wimbledon showed that we did some smart recruitment by signing Alex Bass orignally and it is a shame to see him leave so early into his spell at Meadow Lane.

From his perspective, he's still of the age where he could play much higher and will be coming into his prime. I am saddened, disappointed but I hope Notts brings in a solid replacement. Bass will be very difficult to do better than, Peterborough fans should be delighted with the signing.

  4. Well, he said all the right things, he seemed very honest and open. Willing to learn and appreciate feedback, the key thing was his desire to learn and improve. So many head coaches and managers get stuck within their system and refuse to adapt. One of the faults about Stuart Maynard was his tactical changes and inability to turn games around, with little sign of improvement during his tenure. Obviously, fans will still be reserved, but I hope more come to realise that he wants to earn their trust and he's willing to work for it.

  5. The board has made its call and appointed someone who they hope can get us promoted; I don't know much about Martin Paterson as a coach or manager. I only vaguely know him as a player, and I just hope he has that aggression to win and can get the players wanting to put an extra 20 to 30% into their performances. Paterson has been given a good opportunity to come in and guide Notts, so fingers crossed he will do just that.

  6. It's good that he recognizes the project and knows what Notts are all about, players like Ollie Norburn thrive in front of passionate fans, and I really hope we can get behind him. There are concerns about his injury history, but we are preparing to focus on this, and I think there are enough midfielders for this not to be that worrying. It's more promising if he can settle early and make a big impact. No doubt League One teams would have been interested, so it does feel like a coup for us.

  7. It does look like a promising signing, I think the midfield is somewhere we can afford to sign a loan player because we are quite blessed with the options we already have. It might be difficult for us to get someone a little different, or with a better approach to taking on players. I don't think he will compare to George Abbott, he'll be his own player. If Tom Iorpenda can get into goal positions, or help create goals with assists, then he will be a big coup for us.

  8. Nick Tsaroulla is a very technical player who always gives his all. The goal clearly meant a lot to him, as it was his first in new colours and one he will always remember. We have a great player in him, and if he can score a few more goals before the season ends, I think it would benefit Notts. Stuart Maynard has options with Tsaroulla's position, but Tsaroulla is someone I would frequently choose.

  9. The result is a good boost. I didn't realise that it's four back-to-back away wins. I am losing track a little, but our away form has been much better this season. At home, we are a fortress backed by our exceptional matchday support. We managed to get through the injuries and difficult performances, so it's good to have a bit more luck and better outcomes with our games.

  10. This could be a very good signing. We need to commit to playing him and afford him time. With Junior Morias back, though I doubt Morias would feature, but in principle, they could be two hellraisers in terms of giving defenders a nightmare. We have seen the Jatta and Didzy partnership flourish, and if Mai Traore needs time, I don't see why we wouldn't give Morias another chance but in more games, especially against teams we are coping with. It would rest some of the players during a backlogged run of fixtures if JM can return to match fitness in time.

  11. George Abbott is an incredibly stylish player. You can see how he has improved with his exposure to our first team. His confidence, even in the presence of more seasoned players, underscores his exceptional talent. He doesn't rush or make the wrong move. For someone his age to hold his own against bulkier players shows you don't always need muscle but natural ability and awareness.

  12. It was a difficult match, against a home team who has a large amount of quality above our level within it. I am proud of how Notts played and led the game, coming back after the opener from Peterborough could have easily destroyed our morale and made things difficult to go on from there. Yes, we lost and changes to the team didn't help matters but again, we did well and all the players put in effort. They deserve the credit which went into the performance, so no negatives from me.

  13. It's a good game to be playing, the insight to see how we have come since the pre-season. I know those games mean little, and it's all about fitness, but it does give some indication. We have a good side, and it will be good to see how we compare against a top League One team. Peterborough United might be the favourites, but in cup games you can't underestimate anyone and I think to a certain degree the pressure will be on them being at home.

Our crowd going and making the usual noise will be of great encouragement, and I am very much looking forward to seeing how the game does unfold. I place my trust in Stuart Maynard!

  14. I am very impressed with the progress. This season, we do seem to be putting more focus towards giving youngsters minutes, but this game for the 18s is a massive chance for them to showcase their ability. Win or lose, they are doing a fantastic job, and it would be great to see them get one over Fulham, but I wouldn't want to add any pressure or expectations. I just encourage them to enjoy it.

  15. Martin Allen was a good manager with many funny moments during his time at Notts. I will be interested in the live podcast event for sure. I will have to check my diary and make plans to stay at my folks' place. When Allen tells stories, you can guarantee that he will have some very funny ones. Some fans thought his character was just an act to distract, but he's actually a very amusing person. So, I will enjoy looking back on the earlier years of my Notts support.

  16. The game should have ended in our favour. Without Alex Bass, this might not have been the case, and I think defensively we hung on at times. I thought Doncaster looked far more organised this time around, but they didn't really play all that well. Notts did in spells, but failed to see out the game after a very good first half. Alassana Jatta's strike was brilliant. It's a shame we didn't create more chances, but we played well, just lacked at the crucial end, but it wasn't due to effort.

  17. We need to get Dan Crowley more involved further up the pitch. He has the ability to make things happen, but I thought he was quite quiet yesterday. Even Matt Palmer seemed a bit slow to start, which is usual for him, but Barrow make it difficult. They are a compact team when needed and quick to break. I thought they were excellent, even after Notts took control of the game. A point seems fair, considering we nearly lost.

  18. You have to balance good performances with less-than-perfect ones when aiming for promotion. Who cares what purists think? Similarly, who worries about winning ugly when results like this take some pressure off the team?Β

I believe we did everything we could to secure the result. We will need to rely on the defence to handle threats strongly, and when we can’t, thankfully Alex Bass is exceptional, especially at this level.Β

It was a good win, and it deserves only positive thoughts from us.

  19. It’s a good response from the manager. I'm surprised he didn’t mention the officials or some of the tackles made by the AFC Wimbledon players.Β

Asking for protection in interviews can get quite dull if it happens too often. I would much rather hear about the preparation that went into the match and why things worked or didn’t.

I hope Stuart Maynard can focus on the positives because, during the defeats, his responses were pretty typical.

  20. It’s good to hear Matt Palmer’s thoughts ahead of the game. However, I don’t think the interviewer needed to mention the playoff final so much. That is in the past.

The focus should be on a typical League Two game, even if it’s a derby against Chesterfield. It’s great to hear about the playoff final, but from the question point of view, it’s all hype. This only leads to some fans having higher expectations.

We need to take it as it comes, see how both teams prepare, and just try to get a good result away from home.

  21. The Pride of Nottingham is clearly a labour of love for you, gaffer. It’s great to see the Faces of PON. These pictures are absolutely stunning! I hope the fans who feature really see how much Notts means to you and enjoy seeing themselves captured sharing their passion for the club. The photo of the guy holding what I assume to be his child is a great capture!
