Kevin Nolan has spoken highly of the improvement in Notts County's defensive play, as highlighted by their clean sheet against Grimsby Town at the weekend.

The Magpies recorded their first shutout since the 3-0 win against Newport County in October, with Ross Fitzsimons also playing his part with a smart save from Jamille Matt in the first half.

Although Notts have conceded goals in recent weeks, the last team to register more than five shots on target in a league game was Carlisle United back in October.

β€œWe are clearing up at the back and you can see their desire to defend,” Nolan told the Nottingham Post. β€œThey are a really good unit and they are working their socks off for each other.

β€œWe were delighted with the clean sheet against Grimsby and hopefully this gives us a base to start on.

β€œIf you keep a clean sheet then it’s only one goal that’s required to win the game. We have goals all over the pitch and we know it can come at any time.”
