Alan Hardy has revealed that Notts County are plotting a "marquee signing" in January.

The transfer window will open at the start of next month, leading to speculation as to who the Magpies will seek to recruit in a bid to remain in the League Two promotion hunt.

Although Notts are "in a really good place" at present and Kevin Nolan has faith in his current squad, the chairman gave an update about two enquiries being rejected so far and

β€œWe are in a really good place and the gaffer is not in a mad rush to make signings,” Hardy told the Nottingham Post.

β€œHe is convinced that, with the squad we have got, it is good enough to get promoted.

β€œHowever, we are looking for that one special player and he has to be able to come straight into the first team.

β€œWe have made two enquiries this week and both of those were rejected. We won’t be going back in for them. The door has been closed and we move on.

β€œIf that marquee signing does come off then it will be very late in the window.”
