Trophy - The Cobblers (H)

Team: Northampton Town

Date: 08/10/2024

Where: Meadow Lane

What line-up should Stuart Maynard opt for? What will be the key areas for the Magpies to get a victory? What do you think the final score will be?

Have your say below, join in with the Pride of Nottingham match discussion.

.

I would think Stuart Maynard may put out a side more or less the same which played at Burton. Give some of the Academy Lads a run out, because the way Notts injury list is Starting to Look one or two of these young Guys may find them on the First  Team Bench or even lining up in the First XI.

I would have thought Notts will field a mix of first teamers & academy players like they did against Burton.

The side that beat Burton played very well, so I have no problem with Stuart playing a similar side to face Northampton.

We may see the players that came off the bench today in the starting eleven. Players such as Martin, Cundy, McDonald, Brown & Scott need the match practice.

The game is a perfect opportunity for Stuart to get these players up to speed, because they will all be needed at some point.

Key areas will be all over the pitch. It will be important for the defence, midfield & attacking players to put in a good performance to push for a place against Chesterfield on Saturday.

I would be pleased with a draw. It will depend how strong a team Northampton put out for the match.

I hope we continue to give our youngsters a run out, other than that I wouldn't start or play Jatta/McGoldrick (Didzy is back next week). I would be tempted to give Scott a try up front, just so we can see if he would thrive better as a striker. I wouldn't risk losing Jatta or McGoldrick again.

The chances of Scott picking up an injury seem much slimmer to me, so it could give him some vital minutes.

Either him, or Jevani Brown.

A field where dreams become reality.

Update from Stuart today

McDonald & Ness will feature in the game against Northampton, so will Brown, Martin & Reynolds.

Ness will get his first minutes for Notts in his quest to build up his fitness. Stuart thinks highly of him, so it will be interesting to see how he performs.

Expect more academy players to feature too. So it will be a mixture of first teamers, squad players & academy players in the team Tuesday.

In a weird way this competition is turning out to be quite handy, I'm not fussed about winning it but given our injuries it means we can get players back playing proper minutes. Training is a necessity but there's nothing quite the same as a competitive match against opposition. It will allow the players who haven't really featured to get more of understanding of each other and those connections in our patterns of play.

This is such an important match for the squad players, those coming back from injury, & our leading Academy players who will be hoping to get some minutes on the pitch tonight.

Tonight it will be the first time that we will have seen Lucas Ness in the black & white. It will be interesting to see if Stuart puts him alongside Rod McDonald who played so well against Burton.

I'm sure that Robbie Cundy will feature too at the back, making a new defensive unit on show for Notts.

Stuart has said that McDonald & Ness's way back to first team action will be carefully controlled to give them time to get back to full fitness.

Scott, Martin & Brown should feature tonight too. Hopefully Cedwyn can get on the score sheet tonight which would be a lift for him & the club.

Stuart said in his press conference that he will give Academy players more opportunity tonight, so if fit expect Cisse, Edwards, Sanderson, Muir & Adiefeh to feature.

The Notts team for tonight's game.

It's a young squad for this match, but Cedwyn Scott is not in the team tonight. Hope he's not injured again.
