We have parted company with Steve Cooper, who leaves his position as First Team Manager with immediate effect.

I thought it was a somewhat strange appointment when he arrived at Leicester, although I thought he was doing alright. Their fans never really seemed to take to him, mostly due to managing Forest.

Being a part of certain Foxes groups, I tend to see on Facebook a lot of complaints and I think Leicester City winning the Premier League has made a lot of their fans believe they are a much bigger team. What they did that season was incredible, but what was a united community seems to have led to self-edification and reflections of unfounded glory. There was a lot of talk that they were a top 6 team after gaining promotion. I always thought they would be fighting off relegation, I hope their next appointment is someone who can just return the stability they need to establish themselves as a Premier League team.

It's sad that he didn't last long but it is totally indicative of football at the moment.

If a manager isn't winning matches, their days are numbered, unless you are named Pep Guardiola of course.

Although five defeats on the bounce isn't a good look for Pep.

I agree that there was always going to be a biggish section of Leicester fans who would be against Steve Cooper regardless as to how he performed. I'm not quite sure what the expectations were though, avoiding relegation would have been an absolutely fine outcome to this season. Their defence is poor and they are still over-reliant on Jamie Vardy, I think Steve Cooper was performing as expected.

Everton and maybe Wolves aside their isn't really a host of bad Premier League teams anymore. Relegation now is almost just a battle amongst the newly promoted sides, with one hoping to stay up.

Let's be honest, Leicester City fans would never have taken to Cooper with him having managed Forest. From the start, there was resistance. His tactical approach was intriguing, sure, but results just weren’t there, and the chemistry with the squad seemed off. It didn't help that the performances dwindled over time. He might have had some solid ideas, but football's a game of momentum and connection, and it just didn’t click here. It’s unfortunate it ended this way, but the club couldn’t afford to wait around. Now, they need someone who can reignite some genuine excitement.

ruud van nistelrooy? that would be a comical error if they appointed him. i cant see it being a better appointment. they should go for someone more used to managing a team in the premier league. i am surprised that graham potter has not been heavily connected but he would be a better option than van nistelrooy.

Graham Potter has been linked and is favourite according to BBC East Midlands Sport.

i dont think hes ready for a premier league team, he would do well to find a good championship or league one team. stability really is the key i think as if they avoid relegation this season at least they can build. appointing graham potter to me would be like conceding you will be relegated.

BBC East Midlands mentioned two other managers as the front runners, with Graham Potter ruled out. He’s one of those managers who will be linked to every job until he gets one.

Yep, they should have stuck with Cooper, I think it was @Chris who said Van Nistelrooy would be a disaster for Leicester and he was right.

Van Noodles didn't really do a good enough job, he should have got behind the players and rallied them up with belief and confidence. Instead, he talks about "we" and some aspects which make him sound like he's behind them. Such as saying all the players are trying, so how do you go behind by so many goals by the 35th minute? If it's not the players, it's the manager. If it's both, then perhaps some of the players aren't good enough? In which case, you need to make sure the manager is someone who can get the best out of everyone. Ruud is clearly a nice enough person, but do you get a manager vibe from him when watching this post-match reaction?

The appointment falls onto the Leicester City board, they need to be very mindful about who comes in next as it could cause them more issues in the Championship, if they appoint a manager not good enough for the Premier League, and is out of his depth in the second tier of English football.
