Tony Hateley left us 11 years ago today

Tony Hateley died on this day 11 years ago, my all time favourite player, for those who never saw him play he was a typical centre forward very much in the mould of Jatta today, if the crosses were put in he would score whether it was by leaping like a salmon to head a goal or using his silky skills on the ground. A great all round player.

Proud to be a Notts County Supporter for over 60 years.

Tony was simply one of our own.

He came back home & helped get us promoted.

I still remember a goal he scored from a towering header from a pinpoint cross by Charlie Crickmore.

Proud to be a supporter for 58 years & counting of the oldest professional football club in the World. COYP

So sad to read this. Still remembered and never forgotten, Big Tone! I bet he's delighted to know he still has fans.

Oh oh oh ohhhhh, everywhere where we go, watching super County putting on a show!

Having heard stories from my grandfather Ray and Granny Pie about Tony Hateley, I can certainly see why Notts fans took to him. In all the research I have done, I know he's loved by clubs like Liverpool too. His legacy inspired his son and grandson to take up the game too. All three were very good players, but Big Tony Hateley no doubt deserves the title of legend, not just at Notts but within football.
