I bet he wished he'd never left MK Dons. He won just 5 of his 25 games in charge of Carlisle.

So Williamson has been sacked after only four months in charge.Β

Interestingly, they have decided to part ways with him as the transfer window is closing.

A new Head Coach will have to work with the players that Williamson brought in. It will be difficult for this new person in charge to turn things around with just 18 matches left & Carlisle 5 points from safety.

In my opinion this is just another club in panic mode because they find themselves at the foot of division 2. I don't think it will have a happy ending.

its odd what is going on with carlisle, they have made no end of signings that now a new manager must work with and there will be limits to what that manager can do. the transfer window would have been better to sack him at the start of than this stage. i don't think it makes much sense to be honest, he seemed the wrong appointment but they were in danger before he arrived. poor deicison.

I said at the time that Carlisle United going as far as they did to appoint Mike Williamson from MK Dons would end up in disaster. He showed no ability to make MK Dons a good side, they were very inconsistent and just not competitive enough under him. The move could have worked out, I know people spoke about it making sense due to where he's from, but it always came down to his ability and style of management.

MK Dons gave him a great platform to show that he can be an EFL manager.

Carlisle United seemed the total opposite to me, he needs time to learn but throwing him in a relegation battle when he can't show signs of success with a promotion tipped favourite. Well it's just a recipe for a disaster and I honestly never thought it would work.

Wishing Carlisle the best of luck in maintaining focus, and hoping Mike Williamson finds stability in his career without frequent job changes.

You just couldn’t make it up could you. Like you say Carlisle have literally just spent the entire January brining in players that Mike Williamson has worked with before; Cedwyn Scott, Paul Dummett, Stephen Wearne and Callum Whelan. He's also added other players to suit his style like Will Patching and Elliot Embleton.

Their January window has just been a complete waste of effort time and money has it not? All Carlisle need to do now is bring in a manager who says all the new players don’t suit his style and they’ll have messed the season up perfectly! I think they are doomed personally, all to reminiscent of the season we went down, but somehow worse!

Mike Williamson was all the hype 1 year ago, many would’ve wanted him as the Notts manager had he not already taken over at MK when Luke Williams departed. Look at him now though, he’s had an afwul 9 months or so, embarrassing loss in the play-offs, awful start with MK and then tanked at Carlisle...

I am confused as to why they even spent money on appointing a manager who was already in management. Although he probably would have been sacked by now if he was still at MK Dons, it makes me wonder if Carlisle are not just panicking due to the results. It's going to be hard for them to steer themselves to safety; a new manager will basically have to start again.

Mike Williamson had the chance of a dream move, not once but twice. If he was a good manager at this level, he should have turned Carlisle United's fortunes around. He should spend more time establishing himself in the National League and perhaps find a club where he can compete at the right end of the table. His EFL career looks poor, with MK Dons failing to reach their potential despite backing Williamson and now failing to turn Carlisle's fortunes around.

Mike Williamson shot himself in the foot, not once but twice. His managerial career, at least in the EFL, will be on hold now. If he gets hired by anyone in the league, it will be a major shock.
