Key point "Chelsea's strategy is entirely within Premier League rules. Uefa has more stringent rules and it remains to be seen whether European football's governing body considers any action."

Quoted from this article below.

"Chelsea says the transfer of ownership will “ensure CFCW has dedicated resources, management and commercial leadership solely focused on the growth and success of the women’s team”.

"However, critics have suggested the move was designed to ensure compliance with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR)".

"The sale of club-owned assets to a related company is allowed under Premier League rules but must be for fair market value. The transaction did trigger an assessment of the sale by the Premier League under its associated party transaction (APT) rules".

"A move to bring in an outright ban on such sales was narrowly voted down at the league’s annual general meeting last June".

It is clear that their needs to be a football regulator in place as soon as possible.

There is talk of watering down the regulator's powers so as to not discourage foreign investment in the Premier League and EFL.

I personally think this would be a big mistake. I also think that the loopholes in the regulations that allowed Chelsea to basically sell it's Women's team back to itself should be closed.

For me allowing clubs to do this makes a mockery of the profit and sustainability rules.

No, the real governance of this financial issue probably rests firstly with UEFA.

Rather than changes to the rules of the games having the main focus across football, more emphasis should be placed on finding a solution to the way teams operate, how financial disasters can be avoided, and I think a football regulator independent of the clubs would help.

As for Chelsea, I can't pretend to know much about what they have done, and I really don't care to deep-dive into it.

UK media will always take a story and form a side where they either attack or defend; defending usually gives a clearer insight into the facts, but it depends on the bias. It does remind me of when Manchester City pulled a stunt with their owners business sponsoring their shirts, and I don't think it's good in the sense that these things do seem unfair in nature to football.
