pon and the new site

i really like the changes, once fully back with everything in place i think fans will like it too. one thing i miss is the button to create new content. the new editor, design, mobile navigation are very impressive. everything is very snappy and the home page looks great. i like how easy and clear everything is, the modern feel really makes a huge difference.

what does everyone else think?

In 4.5, or maybe 4.3, there was a link on the forum index. That would change based on what the default stream was, but a lot of things have been streamlined. There are elements I miss, but hooks are returning and there's always the hope that they'll be able to be returned.

My favourite change is the text editor. The previous editor was CKEditor 4, and it was very clunky.

When it was first introduced, it was outstanding for the time, but things have become a lot more lightweight and better in terms of functions. I am still working on areas, but I am happy with how far we have come. I'm just glad there weren't any major, major issues. It went remarkably well. When I upgraded a test environment, I encountered heaps of issues, but that is to be expected with betas.

I'm always open to feedback, and I only want members to be happy.

I like how the site feels more like an app on mobile. It's much easier to use, rather than feeling awkward. The old version was always impressive, but this takes it to another level. I might start using my phone more when I have free time while I'm out and about, as I usually post from my computer.

I remember the gaffer saying this would be built from the ground up. You can see it in how different things are, but it still keeps its earlier charm. PON is looking fantastic, and I am delighted with how it turned out. We just need to build on the posts and activity again. I hope with the launch of this new version we can flourish. @Chris , you deserve it.

Yes, all very impressive I am a big fan of the new look and feel. Functions perfectly on my desktop and mobile.

The site doesn't load on my tablet but I suspect this is due to the fact it's rather ancient πŸ˜‚ I can't quite remember what android system it is operating on but the updates stopped years ago, probably best for security reasons anyway!

Yes, v5 was built from the ground up, which is why there are a lot of issues with features coming from addons being difficult. Plugins are removed, in favour of everything to be applications. The good thing is a lot of hooks are returning, but some will never return.

Between major versions, I do try to freshen things up. I spent a while loving the previous theme, but I wanted to try something new.

I'll look into the tablet side, if you are able to tell me the model and Android version? It's possible it could be related to the browser, but provided that is still being updated, there shouldn't be much reason for the site to be broken completely. Next time I am at my dad's I will check one of the devices which still works that I cycled down to him (before we brought him a newer device because they were really past it). 🀣 It is important I try to see what is causing it, though.

I like what Chris has done with the place. Seriously though, I'm very happy with the new format.

I am thankful, there's no "but" in there. 😁

This is the first time I've seen the changes, but I have always liked how PON looks. It's very impressive, and I agree the updates since the last version are a big improvement. Once everything is back, it will be interesting to see how the site performs. I really enjoy talking about Notts and visiting the site.

Seeing the site now, it feels like a big step forward, and everything looks much nicer. Some things might be missing for now, but the discussions are the most important part.

I like how topics update, and you can see who’s in them at the moment. Build the live activity, and fans should recognise the site’s true potential.

I don’t usually like change because it rarely feels like an improvement. There are a few things I miss, but I do like the new design and can see the benefits. Everything loads incredibly fast, which is a big plus. Overall, it looks very good.

I haven't been online much in the last few days so I'm yet to discover many of the functions, but I like the look and feel of it, it feels much more modern.

However, I always navigated the site using the dashboard and I'm struggling with the new one. Previously there was a clean overview of the latest forum posts, but now I have to scroll past some very old status updates, frequent posters etc. before I find the forum posts, which are organised by forum and seemingly not in chronological order. I may well be missing something though. Thanks @Chris for your efforts and I'm looking forward to seeing it bed in!

The Latest Discussions widget currently in place, it's just a makeshift feed.

I've mentioned in the discussion about this pending upgrade that Terabyte mentioned that upgrading our custom widget wouldn't be possible with two features, plus a further 2 hooks no longer exist. The team behind the software, they have built this from the ground up, so hooks may return in the future as many have already, but I have revised my plan.

I am not sure when exactly the replacement will be ready at this stage. There are various pending and in the works upgrades.

I know what you mean though, thanks for your comment and feedback.
