Visiting Nottingham

Hi guys,

Planning to visit UK this October and stay for two days in Nottingham.

What places, museums and pubs you would recommend to visit?

Thanks

Hi Alex

There are a few historic pubs in Nottingham you might like to visit, Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem is reputed to be the oldest pub in England, The Salutation on Maid Marion Way, Bell Inn in the market square are also worth a visit.

Nottingham Castle and Wollaton Hall have museums, the galleries of justice, Nottinghams Caves, Sherwood Forest Visitor Centre and the Major Oak.

That’s a few to be going on with I’m sure other people will be along soon with recommendations. Don’t forget to take in a match at Meadow Lane of course if you can.

If it’s your first time in Nottingham, it could be worth asking if Notts have any space on a stadium tour. It’s a good chance to visit Meadow Lane and learn a bit about the club. Even if you just have time to walk round the stadium, it’s a nice area. The Trent Navigation and The Embankment pubs are nearby, both offer food and serve good ale. The Embankment itself is worth seeing if you’re close by. There’s a memorial garden and a lovely walk along the River Trent. It’s just a short stroll from the city centre.

The Castle is somewhere I’d also recommend. You could catch the number 10 bus to reach both Meadow Lane and The Embankment from the city centre. Rushcliffe Country Park is another spot worth exploring.

Is Derby worth visiting or I just can skip it and keep going?..

Derby has some nice spots, but if you're only staying for a few days, it might be better to focus on exploring Nottingham. There's a lot to see, and it could be a more worthwhile use of your time. Of course, it depends on your interests. It's easy enough to travel between Derby and Nottingham, so that gives you options.

Since it’s your first time visiting, you might find it useful to write a list of places in Nottingham you want to see. From there, you can build a plan and explore what’s nearby each location.

If you have any problems or concerns, feel free to send me a private message (PM). Always happy to help!
Please note: I’ll do my best to help, but some issues may need passing on.

If you're thinking of exploring the region, I can recommend Lincoln, especially the area up the hill. The cathedral is stunning and very underrated. It's less than an hour's train ride from Nottingham.

If you're staying for two full days, you could spend the first day exploring Nottingham and the second visiting somewhere nearby. That way, you get a good mix of local sights and a change of scenery.

If you like going for walks, Derby has some lovely places to see. The Derby Cathedral is a great landmark, and Chaddesden Wood and Markeaton Park are peaceful spots for a stroll or a bit of nature.

St Peter's Church is worth a visit, and if you're into museums, the Museum of Making and Derby Museum & Art Gallery are both good choices with interesting collections.

Back in Nottingham, Castle Fine Art and Nottingham Contemporary might appeal to you if you're into artwork. The East Midlands is a lovely region to discover, and you could also look into Leicestershire or Northamptonshire for more ideas before finalising your trip.

Oh oh oh ohhhhh, everywhere where we go, watching super County putting on a show!

Try not to overdo things when travelling. It’s best to look at the suggestions and plan your day so you’re not rushing about. If you try to squeeze too much into two days, it can become too much and you might feel like you’d have enjoyed it more if you'd taken it slow.

If you get the chance to visit Meadow Lane, definitely go. Most of the staff are friendly and happy to show you around.

Hope you enjoy your trip. Take your time and make the most of it.
