I am just giving the community the heads up that after 12am the Pride of Nottingham will be under maintenance.

The site will be offline for around 2 hours, as this will be the best time to upgrade and bring further improvements that are being made. Once the upgrade is finished, some routine tasks will be finalised before the site will be able to go live again. However, most likely everyone will be sleeping.

I will follow this post up with some of the changes, some of which are quite exciting.

Many thanks,
Chris

You can now download the Pride of Nottingham onto your iOS and Android devices, choosing to install a PWA (Progressive Web App).

This supports push notifications if you enable them.
Separate the Pride of Nottingham from your mobile's web browser.
We now use Cloudflare Tunneling instead of reCAPTCHA V2. (It automatically recognises human activity, eliminating the need for trivial games or image prompts.)
Several new member awards have been added.
The League Table, Squad Page, and Fixtures app is advancing steadily. 👍🏻
I should have an update on the following apps: Moods, Avatar Gallery, Viewers (the latter shows you who visited pages).

What is the PWA and how do I use it?

A Progressive Web App (PWA) is a mobile-optimized version of your community that users can add to their device’s home screen, just like any regular app. It launches in full-screen and supports push notifications and badges (when enabled).

To install the PWA:

  • iOS/iPadOS: Tap the Share button in Safari (square with an arrow), then tap "Add to Home Screen."

  • Android: Tap the three-dot menu in Chrome, then tap "Add to Home Screen."

The most impressive aspect is the PWA app. There is absolutely no need for upgrades, and it fully supports the entire site.

With its ability to support push notifications, it will provide members a valuable way to keep updated, and when I perform future upgrades, all of this will be done server-side. The PWA app will continue to work without any maintenance or updates. The only exception would be if new animations or changes, such as background colour or app icon, are made.

As of now, I am keeping the app icon simple, so I have no plans to change any of that, but if changes are made and you need to refresh it, you would simply uninstall and follow the steps quoted.

While I know we live in a world where notifications can keep people glued to their screens, I hope with PON it will be different.

I hope it will bring you the latest news, messages from community members you want to see, and encourage your continued support to keep the community active. There are a few more things I will point out over the next few days, but for now I will leave this here.

Fan of Big Tone was awarded the badge 'Community Legend' and 10 points.

"Thank you for always going that extra mile to help make PON what it is, Tone."

On the app now, all looking good. 👍

I apologise if your preference for which skin you use keeps changing; I am trying to fix a bug, and in the process, I made the light version the default skin. I still haven't managed to resolve this issue, but I am aware of what is causing it.

Small update:

A template error has been fixed.
The awards displayed in a member's postbit area have been diminished.
The league table is now using our new app; further pages and improvements are forthcoming.

The developer of the app is doing an awesome job and has done an excellent job envisioning my ideas and implementing his own.

Tonight I will update the manager page and coaching staff changes.

The squad will eventually be switched to the football app, with fixture widgets coming to show upcoming and previous games. 👍🏻

Looking sharp, gaffer. I really like the progress PON is making, and things have clearly improved since the upgrade. You might be worried about a few bits still being outdated or missing, but you’ve done a great job getting the site back in shape so quickly.

I’m still pretty new to the site, but I’ve noticed things getting better. I really like how it looks and works, and it’s nice that people are being kind to me. Even though I’m young, it feels like my thoughts matter.

The updates are a good idea to help everyone know what’s going on, even if not many people read them. It shows that someone cares about keeping us all in the loop.

@Ash we are family here, young like you or old like me or ancient like @super_ram 😂 it doesn’t matter how old you are your views are respected.

Update:

I have corrected the Head Coach page, retitling it from "The Manager" to Head Coach to fit in with the club's vision. It's fully updated to cover Martin Paterson.

https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/club/head-coach/

The first team staff page is also now updated: https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/club/staff/

As is the first team squad: https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/club/first-team-squad/

Instead of doing goalkeeper, defender, midfield, attack. I have categorised the players into the positions they fit in our current system. Therefore, at least to me, it makes sense to identify where a player should be expected to play. Avoiding the club's current layout, where players seem to be thrown on, i.e, Barry Cotter is a wing back, as is Kellan Gordon. Not a defender or midfielder, as the OS has them currently.

League table has prime positions now styled in with CSS: https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/club/league-table/

All toggle nicely between the light and dark versions of the themes PON offers.

I am hoping to get the newsletter widget upgraded, with the API pointing to the system PON will be using.

I tried briefly to send bulk messages at the beginning of the pre-season, but it didn't work as I had hoped. So, I will focus on curating an email list where people will have subscribed. Therefore, I can focus on delivering the news, information, and guest pieces for them.

Both the league and squad page now use the app I spoke about previously.

It would be great if some members would be willing to volunteer some time to help me with this, as I need to add a lot of data to make the most of the system's full features. Primarily focusing on adding players to different teams. (Please let me know in the comments if you can help.)

Upcoming versions will feature data-driven statistics widgets.

Top 5 goalscorers, assists, league, and Notts-related statistics, among much more.

The fixture widgets will be sprinkled around the site, so we can show the upcoming game and previous results in selected areas. Linking to our match reports and match discussions.

Man of the Match ratings, along with team and formation selectors, prediction league, and what grounds you have visited. All are to be looked into; the current prediction league will not be replaced, it will just be easier to manage and remind people. Scores will be guessed, then posted to the appropriate topic with the Joker card. After which, @DangerousSausage can automate the scores and league table accordingly. That information will then be posted to the topic. 👍🏻

Historical data and stat pages will also be a future goal for the application, as I wish to preserve as much history of the Pride of Nottingham as I can. There are some excellent resources out there, but my aim is to make sure any data PON has will be future-proof.

There's no ETA or timeline with the future features, the main thing is to get the system as powerful as possible with the core functions.
