  • I thought Sonny Aljofree played fine; admittedly, I struggled to see the 2nd half, but in the first half he did well. His issue was, in my eyes, down to Kellan Gordon being inconsistent and indecisive

  • I can't disagree with this👇

Notts travel to Barrow on Saturday looking for their first win of the season in League 2. A draw & a defeat in their first two games isn't the best start the Notts fans were looking for.

The game follows a midweek defeat to Wigan in the EFL Cup however Notts did have an encouraging 2nd half performance where they created several chances but couldn't get the breakthrough.

Head Coach Martin Peterson will be looking for more high level consistency from his team against Barrow. The team need to perform well over the full 90 minutes rather than only in patches as we have seen against Salford & Wigan.

As far as the team selection for Barrow is concerned, I would definitely include Hall, Dennis, Luker, McDonald & Gordon in my starting 11.

After encouraging signs against Wigan, I am hopeful that Notts can get their first win of the season. Consistency is the key to success of far as I see it.

Barrow haven't scored this season. 1 shot on target in 2 league games. They were a bit unlucky against Preston in the Cup. MK Dons beat them at their place but it took them 70 mins to break them down. Barrow are not an exciting side to watch. They adopt an Alamo style approach. They dig in and hope for the best.

We have trouble scoring goals but 1 might well be enough to win the game. Barrow's style should suit us. It plays to our strengths. A 90 minute performance would be nice but 3 points are essential.

yeah, it would be nice to pick some points up against barrow. they have adapted well to life in league two and do know how to shut down teams. at the same time they can go to the other end and score goals, so it could be a really tricky game for us.

i am hoping we take a look at the squad and see who is 100% match fit, and choose to start them.

we can use the subs to impact quality into the team, i am sure we can be good enough to select a more fitter based team that can give their all without it making us weaker.

We have trouble scoring goals

Based on that it sounds like a 0-0 score line to me.

Let’s hope Notts can find away through their defence and score.

If we can score early n they’ve got to come out then it might be a decent game.

I know it's only the 3rd game but we really need a win. To me it feels like the recruitment and the players owe MP a better performance and a victory.

Some thoughts on the team...

Iorpenda complements Palmer well and should start there instead of further forward - we kind of miss out on his running and athleticism when he has duties to stay higher

Sooner or later, we will face the question of RWB. Are we a struggling team that really needs an extra defender there? Or can we play someone with more goals and assists in them? Cotter's done well, but if the game is looking like the last 2 we'll be drifting to 1 or 0 pts unless we shake it up and move Jones wide, at HT or 55mins at the latest.

It's new ground for me, which I am looking forward to seeing, even if it is a typical non-league stadium.

The thing that concerns me is how they haven't yet started their season off as they would want, and we are still seeking our first win. We can't really factor in Newport or Salford in terms of our performances, and that leads me to just hope that we do play with more intent on goal and less carelessness in passing the ball. I would like us to try to attack through the middle; yes, we have good wide players, but it shouldn't rule out just how much space can open up in this area.

I also wasn't aware until I read @gtownjohnno's comment that Regan Booty had signed for them. I always liked him; in fact, I still have his print on my wall near my desktop.

I just hope we are brighter and more alert, because a draw or worse could really drag on this start to the season. It's early days, but we really need to step things up sooner or later. I am sure we'll give a good account of ourselves (at least the fans). 😉

We need to see better play from the inside forwards than we've had in the first two games. At some point I'd like to see Hall and Luker playing behind Dennis with JJ wide. There might be something there

I agree @theAnticlough, we need creativity in the final third. That requires players that don’t just make a safe pass sideways or backwards, but players who can take opposition players on one to one and beat them, creating space and scoring opportunities for themselves and others. I think Luker and Hall are well placed to do that.

Something needs to change, and our fortunes could improve with a win today. Performances are one thing, but being gritty enough to win helps when the start of the season hasn’t quite got off to a good start.

I’m not worried. I think a win is around the corner.

I think off the back of the second half performance against Wigan McDonald, Gordon and Luker all earnt their starts. Pretty pleased, bench looks solid too just the one glaring omission in the form of a centre forward, we'll probably sign one the same day Jatta's ban ends! Lots of players now missing out though, even with the injuries we've still got the likes of Edwards, Jarvis, Kouhyar, Hinchy, Macari just not being used. There's good squad depth and then there's wasted wages...
