Learning about important figures is something I think more people should do, it's partly why I like posts like this because without them being mentioned you might not otherwise be aware or make the connection that this is the same person who was issued on a stamp once upon a time. There's an element of legacy that makes it exciting to read about those who fought in the war, who made a difference and stood for good.

I was reading an article this morning, Quote, "Approximately 50,000 American soldiers deserted from the US armed forces during World War II, with the vast majority of these desertions occurring in the European Theatre of Operations". 

"While this number represents a significant issue, particularly during the peak of fighting in 1944 when desertion rates rose above 6 percent, it represented a low percentage of the total US military force"
