I do wish Stuart & João lots of luck in the new appointments at York City. Stuart as Manager & João as Assistant Manager.

I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't see a few Notts players end up at York now Stuart's been appointmented.

It would be a big achievement for Stuart if he could guide York City back to League 2. They almost achieved it last season gaining an incredible 96 points & finishing second to Barnet, but they were defeated by Oldham in the Playoff semi finals.

Proud to be a supporter for 58 years & counting of the oldest professional football club in the World. COYP

Really? I Must Admit This Is A Total Surprise To Me. I was under the Impression the Previous Head Coach at York wanted to stay there and build something, according to reports, and had turned down other Clubs including Notts!! Interestingly didn't former Notts Boss Neil Ardley have a spell Coaching at York?

@Piethagoram . He may not be, unless Notts paid up his remaining contract in full with a single payment, otherwise the Club will pay him off monthly, which appears to be the Norm nowadays, until the contract is Paid In Full.

Be interesting to see how all this unfolds, York finished 19th and 20th before Adam Hinshelwood came in and finished 2nd that is a dramatic improvement. Will Stuart be able to keep them in the promotion places or will they drift back down the table?

Whilst I am pleased for Stuart and Joao, I really can’t understand the timing of this. 4 matches into a new season, they haven’t lost so what is the problem? They’ve just spent all pre-season recruiting and training with him. It's got be a non-results based decision because otherwise it would be totally bonkers to have sacked him.

I'm pleased for Stuart Maymard; he has a chance to prove himself at a level he should be fine with.

York City might benefit from him and from allowing him to change its fortunes. If he gets the support and the fans are on board with him, it makes a difference; yes, he was stubborn at making changes and reading games as they unfolded, but he wasn't a bad head coach for us.

@Piethagoram, @Wheelbarrow repair man, he will be.

The club will have taken into consideration the years left on his contract and agreed upon a price when signing him in the first place. Usually, head coaches are paid off quickly at our level. Some Premier League teams will disburse a delayed salary after a manager's sacking, but that's when you are talking big money. I would be surprised if Notts operated differently.

A field where dreams become reality.

@menzinho , it would seem something as gone off behind Closed Doors a Big Falling Out For One Reason Or Another. Stuart Maynard as stepped into another Tough Assignment ( like he did at the Lane) following a Popular Head Coach, he'll have to hit the Ground Running or the York City Fans will soon get on his back, the Owners will also want Promotion, if things don't start well will he be Given Time to Establish his doctrine within the Club? I'm surprised he didn't take the Saunders Brothers with him and chose Alves instead. Who in the Matches I saw him was little or No Help to Maynard, he simply stood in the Technical Area with his arms folded over his Chest. Familiarity I Suppose.

Does This Throw Some Light On The Saunders Brother's Departure From The Lane ( which has never been fully explained by Notts). Did Maynard And The Saunders Have A Falling Out? Because After Their Departure, Maynard Tried To Steady The Ship At Notts, But Eventually It Became (in my opinion) To Much For Him And The Magpies Failed To Achieve Promotion, Which Cost Him His Job.

Good luck to him! It'll be interesting to see how he does.

There was talk about Adam Hinshelwood possibly getting the sack in the summer so he evidently didn't have much support from the board. They might as well have sacked him in the summer and had a clean break. York seem to have been throwing a lot of money at trying to get promotion and underachieved until he arrived.

Good luck to him, he earned that - making the play-offs is something on his CV, to go with what he did at Wealdstone. I hope him and Alves do well.

I think his strength is, as he says, on the tactical side - he does seem to have a good understanding of the game. Doubling down too much on this strength was his undoing at County IMO. He became too clever with his team changes and too much focus on game tactics seem to neglect all those other things which make for winning football - the psychological side, the aggression, the toughness, earning a shirt and the right to keep it.

Everyone is on a learning curve with what they do, so maybe he'll find this balance at York and get them back in the EFL. That will definitely be their target and expectation.

I've been looking further into this appointment, and Stuart certainly picked himself one Hell of a Challenge. Apparently according to York City Fans their Owner, buys players without conferring with his Head Coach, which seems the Previous Coach Didn't like and one of the Reasons he left, or was sacked sounds like a situation not unlike what's going on over the other side of the Trent. Good Luck Stuart, seems like you're gonna need it.

Stuart Maynard took on a tough job. He stepped in after a head coach who had led Notts back into the Football League. That was never going to be easy. He did what he could with the squad and the situation. I hope he does well at York City. He deserves a fair chance.
