Match Discussion: League Two - Gillingham (A)

Featured Replies

With Jodi potentially having taken a knock during the international, and despite Martin Paterson saying he's fine, it might be wiser to protect him and allow him to remain on the bench until needed. Yes, he would be a loss somewhat, but we have coped so far, and I think looking after him would be in Notts' best interest. He could always come on as an impact sub, as already suggested.

As for Ollie Norburn, I think we'd miss his physicality that he brings to the side; we need someone who will let Gillingham know we mean business without picking up a card. Paterson has addressed the threats that he sees from the opposition, so we need to show that preparation when dealing with their set pieces. It should be a good game for sure; I can't see us allowing this occasion to slip.

I hope Martin Paterson is ready and that he and the squad are not distracted by anything off the pitch. The focus needs to be fully on Gillingham. They are a strong team and have come a long way since

  • As @theAnticlough mentioned, I don't think it would be a bad decision to allow Jodi some time to breathe and to try to use him as a super-sub once Gillingham begins to tire. The issue with having more

There have been a lot of interesting comments so far, I am really hoping Notts can maintain their winning ways because there's no harm drawing to the league leaders. Protecting a point, and coming back with at least one at least sees us gain something. Obviously, I am hoping we can prove ourselves and show a good, strong performance, but from all the things I have read about Gillingham is that they are a dangerous team to play at home and thrive on causing mistakes.

I personally would always hope to play Jodi if he's 100%, he's a class player and can create assists or chip in with vital goals.

Plus, he's one of those players who shines when we lead, and if we need to show some mettle to get back into games, he can be a real force going forward. Martin Paterson sounded almost unphased in his interview, but spoke of training and some of the preparation that the team has done ahead of today's game.

Oh oh oh ohhhhh, everywhere where we go, watching super County putting on a show!

Unchanged, as most thought. Bennetts and Traore stand down on the bench for Cotter and Jones. Both are unlucky to be out of the matchday squad, I'm sure MP has had some consoling words.

Interesting - good selection from MP in my view, apart from leaving Traore out of the squad entirely after last week’s effort. That’s only a minor matter but leaves us short of a striker (and pace) should we lose a striker, particularly if early in the game and/or we need some extra mobility.

I’m less concerned about Jones, genuinely don’t think we missed him last week. In fact we were more fluent and cohesive without him.

COYP. Let’s have this one.

It's not pretty but it is effective at the moment. Would settle for a 0:0 if Notts can get through the 2nd half.

It's a sad day after we lost one of our own yesterday. In an ideal world, Kim would have been at Gillingham supporting the club. The reality is that Kim was taken way too young. The applause today lifted the cloud of gloom. RIP Kim.

Gillingham deserved their win. They were the better side. The injuries are a real worry. Hopefully Gordon and Dennis won't be out for too long but I suspect Gordon's injury is serious.

We won't meet a better team this season IMO.

That hit me watching the stream when Hassell spoke about that. Never spoke to her, but saw her on so many away days over the years. Too sad. RIP

I can't criticise the way that Martin Paterson set up the side. It was clear from my perspective that he was looking for a draw today, & at half time things were seemingly going to plan.

It was an unlike Notts performance that was very scrappy but it made the League leaders look scrappy too.

Unfortunately, the Gillingham goal came from another Notts mistake that led to a cross which was headed in. The type of goal that Notts seem to concede too much.

Without that lack of concentration Notts could have got a point out of this match so I'm not going to say that Martin got his tactics wrong.

I am worried about the injuries to Dennis & Gordon though. I hope that they are not too serious & they will be back very soon.

I'm still going to be optimistic that the Notts side can improve as the weeks go by. They just need to cut out their mistakes which are going to prove costly.

Up to date League 2 Table after today's matches.

Good summary @Robbie. Too many of those mistakes have come from one player and this is the second away game we've seen him have an absolute mare, apart from the mistake. Projected over a full season, that's going to be very costly indeed. Where's Ness? He looked handy the short time we saw him last season. Sorry, but I've lost trust in Aljofree.

Nice to see Jodi come on, but I couldn't help notice that Jatta was wanting the ball both times JJ shot it. I'm not saying it was necessarily the wrong option, but I don't think he even saw him to consider slipping him in.
