Does True Crime Interest Anyone?

I know it can be kind of morbid, but I have always liked watching true crime documentaries. In the 90s, I would watch Crimewatch UK and The FBI Files. I don't recall seeing other popular American shows, such as Unsolved Mysteries. America's Most Wanted and the like I have always been fascinated with, whereas these days it's somewhat of a buzzword to say you follow one of the million podcasts or YouTube channels that cover them.

One of my favourite YouTube channels is called 'What Likely Happened', but I also like That Chapter and a few others.

The issue with some of them is that they seem to narrate old TV episodes, to the point of directly copying, and it becomes apparent when the next thing they release is from the same show or uses AI, and that puts me right off. I can instantly tell if a YouTube video has been based on something like Unsolved Mysteries or UK crime that comes from Crimewatch.

There is an interesting Jack the Ripper channel called "The House of Lechmere."

A lot of cold cases have been solved due to people continuing to highlight and shine a light on cases, but I do not like disingenuous hosts or channels.

A field where dreams become reality.

yes but only on tv. i do not watch much youtube, i only really watch vlogs and things relating notts, football or video games.

the first 48 and killer cases are two i watch quite frequently.

I don’t really like true crime programmes that feature recent murders, I always wonder what the relatives may think and how they might suffer from it all being dragged up again on tv or YouTube, I just don’t find it entertaining to watch awful events that have really happened in true life, unless it’s a crime from many years ago.

I prefer fictional crime drama at least then there are no real victims.

I do not enjoy programmes that repeat the same stories many times and are then rebranded as a new series with added speculation and facts that do not reveal much. I prefer true crime documentaries that focus on more recent events.

Yes, I enjoy watching documentaries about true crime. Fred Dinenage had a show called "Murder Casebook" many years ago which was very good.

I like it when the person telling the story is invested in what happened and shows respect while explaining how the crime was solved or investigated.

Without some of these shows, you would never imagine the ways people have harmed others or tried to cover it up. It is a terrible subject, but human nature means it still draws your curiosity.

I used to watch Crimewatch UK from when it was first aired in 1984 with Nick Ross & Sue Cook, & later Jill Dando, but stopped watching from the 2000 onward as I thought it wasn't the same without those three.
