Match Discussion: League Two - Harrogate Town (A)

What would your starting line-up be? What will be the key areas for the Magpies to get a victory? What do you think the final score will be?

I think that it is a big opportunity for Notts to consolidate their position in the top three on Saturday against Harrogate.

Notts have won their last three league matches against Harrogate so they will be keen to extend that record against them.

Harrogate are a possession based side who like to build from the back, but I would expect them to be very defensive minded & employ a high press & wait for the Magpies to make a mistake defensively. It's a similar tactics that all opponents tend to resort to at Meadow Lane.

I expect Paterson will pick his strongest side available, but he will be pleased that the replacements played so well last Monday against Cheltenham.

Martin may even decide to pick the starting eleven that faced Cheltenham. I think that Notts will get the win. I'm looking at a 2:0 win with Jatta & Hall the goalscorers

Top of the form table v bottom of the form table and the possibility of Martin Paterson and Jatta being announced as manager and player of the month. Talk about tempting all the fate here!

That said, by the sounds of it Harrogate will do well to put 11 players out for Saturday. From reading an article about them and the build up for this match they have a number of injured players I think about 8 as 3 players limped off in their trophy match this week. 2 players are on international duty one being their top scorer Duke-Mckenna (you need 3 to postpone) and Jack Evans who played all 15 matches previously has 5 yellow cards so is suspended for them.

We could well be in a situation where we can make 5 subs and don't really lose any quality and Harrogate are bringing on academy players. That's the way it goes sometimes but it looks like there's not really a better time to play Harrogate right now.

Given the circumstances Harrogate find themselves in, this should be straight forward right? Right? Seriously though, we might have to be patient. Harrogate will understandably try to hit Notts on the break. It may take our bench to seal the deal.

Even though we've had lots of rain during the last 24 hours, the Meadow Lane pitch looks in excellent condition for tomorrow's game.

Info from the morning HC presser.

As far as the injuries are concerned McDonald is back on the grass, Jaden Luker is making good progress after his Knee operation, Kellan Gordon has done some training.

Matt Palmer & Jodi Jones are in contention for a place on Saturday. Jacob Bedeau isn't suspended as he has only four yellow cards not five, so he's in contention too.

I think the Bedeau news should clinch the win.

Without RodMac, he would've been difficult to replace. You'd have either Bennetts there or Macari - so a back three of Ness, Platt, Macari, none of them in the groove in those exact positions. Harrogate might've benefitted from that.

As it is, Macari can continue his partnership with Tsaroulla and Bedeau's so strong we can bring back JJ or continue with Bennetts, it doesn't matter - we'll be strong down that side too.

These are the sort of matches Notts really needs to start winning now. Our results against the smaller sides have been a bit up and down, but things are starting to look more positive.

Recent form has picked up and the performances have been much more encouraging. You can see the effort and belief returning to the team.

Playing at Meadow Lane should give us a boost. The home crowd always helps, but Harrogate are tidy, well-organised side who can take advantage if we switch off.

It won’t be easy, but the key is to stay focused, work hard, and make the most of any chances that come our way.

A frustrating afternoon. Too many of our players were not quite at it today. There was over-reliance on putting in hopeful crosses from wide positions. We didn't have any players willing to attack them through the middle, so we became too predictable. Our defenders often found themselves the spare man at the back with the ball at their feet - but they refused to inject the energy required. Ness did it once, but we needed more from Bedeau and Macari, especially in the first half.

And Jatta and Hall were sub par.
