Replacing Hall v MK

Featured Replies

Hall will be out v MK, right?

Who should get his place?

I hope MP doesn't bring Norburn in and push Iorpenda forward. I'd like to see somebody else given a go there. Maybe JJ will be back. Maybe he'll go for 2 up front instead.

What would you like to see? I'd go Jarvis who was great in the corresponding fixture last season.

Given how it’s all panned out I feel so close to just admitting defeat with Jarvis. I can’t see him ever being a regular in the side and that’s not because he’s not talented but he’s a winger or an inside forward and we don’t play with either of these. I’d actually like to know what the plan was when he signed because it can't have been to get subbed on against poor teams when we need a goal.

And I'm not sure if he'd be as good out as he is out wide through the middle. You have to be quicker on the ball and more aware of your surroundings. He’ll be up against the centre-backs and I think they could bully him. His biggest skill is his dribbling but it’s so condensed in the middle of the pitch it won’t be as effective. JJ is a similar player and played a few matches through the middle at the start of the season but he looked awkward here.

Iorpenda like Grant lacks the goal threat, but I think it’ll be him or Dennis against MK. Like you say it could depend on the formation we choose, either way I’d bring Dennis into the side.

A fair call, he's our top scorer after all and seems determined to stay in that race and boost his total.

I'll change my preference to be in line w/@menzinho. Reason being we can't have just one scorer on the pitch. Hall out is a reduction in our goal threat and only Dennis has shown he can do that.

2-up top and a different shape behind them - Robbo holding with Grant and Iorpenda either side but more advanced and licence to get forward, a 3-1-4-2. MK wouldn't want us to be so bold, so that's more reason to do it.

We'd need Jatta and Dennis to really occupy their back line, both on and off the ball. And we'd be asking so much Grant and Iorpenda, they'd have to be replaced at/before 70mins, which would happen anyway.

I would like to see Dennis play just behind Jatta at least while Hall is suspended for three matches. I think Iorpenda can do a job in the AM position, but I think he's better alongside Robertson while Palmer is not available.

If I were a betting man I'd put my money down on Paterson putting Iorpenda for Hall & Norburn partnering Robertson against MK Dons, with Dennis on the bench as a super sub.

I do believe that the Club should bring in a specialist AM in the January window. It cries out for someone with skill & experience in that role.

There's a chance he will do this but less likely in a home game. If we started with Norburn in CM and Iorpenda at AM I would think 'oh we're not winning this' straight away. Let's see next week

It’s hard to predict what Martin Paterson will do. I just think we have to get Matt Denis into the starting lineup. As he showed on Saturday he is a genuine goal scorer. Even if we don’t play two up front, I’m sure he can fill the 10 role.

Yeah, with Hall out I think Dennis has to play.

If both him and Jatta start, hopefully they'll realise MP won't do it again if either or both of them are anonymous or use 'service' as an excuse. There's always a way for forwards to get on the ball, cause problems and generally make the defence's life hell.

I would prefer that Dennis plays against MK Dons either upfront or in the number 10 role. I think he deserves to be in the starting 11.

A caveat to that thinking, whether Dennis is effective in that role. I think the Jury is out on that one. Didzy was very effective just behind Jatta but that was Didzy.
