Match Discussion: League Two - Bromley FC (A)

Featured Replies

I thought this was a balanced summary of the game by a Bromley fan.

🚨THE VERDICT🚨

I deliver the FBWL post-match verdict following Bromley's 1-1 draw with promotion rivals Notts County.

Bromley are now 13 games unbeaten and four points clear at the top of League Two.

After a night of reflection on the match, I believe that it was an excellent result for Notts. It kept them right up there & didn't allow Bromley to pull away which was very important. Swindon losing was an added benefit too.

Working hard to grind out results like this one, even though Notts dominated the match for long periods especially in the 2nd half, is becoming part of the norm for this Notts squad this season.

I felt that Notts dealt with Bromley's high energy & direct style of play very well. It was unfortunate that Notts conceded to a free kick into the box, but apart from the goal, Bromley were restricted in their overall threat.

I'm sure that Martin Paterson is prepared for every game from here on in to be a battle. Victory isn't guaranteed in any of them. Notts need to play every game as if it's a cup final starting with a difficult trip to Shrewsbury on Tuesday.

Although 1-1 was probably a fair result, I was really proud of the boys yesterday. They stood up to the physicality and aerial bombardment from Bromley really well. Notts were the only team trying to play football. I listened to Andy Woodman's post match interview and I think he must be detached from reality to think Bromley should have won the game. He was probably frustrated that their style of play didn't work. I agree with@DangerousSausage Just as was the situation with Lincoln was, we to some degree yesterday sussed them out and they were quite ineffective, with only one shot on target. Others teams will work it out and we could see them drop down the table. I would much rather watch a Notts team trying to play football with skill and purpose than a team that at every opportunity just lumps the the ball in the box hoping to cause chaos and score from it.

Two draws against Bromley now, not bad at all considering they are top. This has been the biggest difference for me this season, our results against the better teams have improved massively, we are a lot more competitive and the fact we can take points from these types of matches really does give me hope we could be on for a great season finale!

So true. Even if they do lump their way to promotion, they're likely to come straight back down playing that way - that'll be an embarrassing level of unwatchable.

Couldn't agree more! We can see Port Vale have struggled and Donny and Wimbledon haven't pulled up any trees. When we go up we want to stay up. The way we try to play is a good basis for doing that along with some additions to the squad.

I’ll go a bit further - why are managers like Woodman constantly focusing on refs and decisions? Because playing at the edge of the rules, and pressurising the officials not to implement the rules is at the centre of their strategy.

If refs really implemented the rules of the game, teams like that wouldn’t get very far

A point at Bromley is a point gained given their home form. Notts still have momentum. That's vital at this stage in the season.

The Bromley "kick off" sums up their style of play. Just lob it into the corner for a Notts throw in close to the corner flag. Notts made sure that the opportunities for Bromley long throws in advanced positions were limited

Yes, ever since I was a nipper I've looked to professional football for skill on the ball, technique, touch, imagination, great passing and team play. If I pay admission, that's what I want to see - or at least an attempt at it.

If I wanted to see big bruisers lump it long, I'd go down the park and see a pub side for free.
