I'm guessing we'll get some sort of update about the players who will and won't be in contention for the weekend, but assuming not much has changed from last weekend it's pretty slim pickings right now in terms of first 11...

Belshaw
Gibbons Ness Bedeau
Kouhyar Lipsuic Evans Tsaroulla
Roberts Cooper
Acquah

Subs: Griffiths, Brown, Baker, Robertson (hopefully), Reynolds, Ndlovu, Smyth.

The wingbacks and attacking midfielder positions are still a massive issue for me, zero depth at the minute and that's without injuries.

I don't think we'll win, Burnley might have a had a bit of rough season last year but I think they'll have too much quality for us. If we can be somewhat competitive and even score I'll be happy.

And we are back. What a Summer it has been. Civil War in FIFA. Spain dispatching an unsporting Argentina. Donald ringing Infantino. It was all happening!

This is a free hit for us I feel. I'm happy we have extra time to prepare for the league because it's badly needed. I think we'll be competitive. A win would be a bonus.

Oh no @PON_News, League Two again? And there I was thinking we'd escaped it 😞

Joking aside, I'm very curious to see what side we put out and how the new signings look in serious competitive games. It's a bit weird to start with our League Cup run, but at least it gives us competitive match practice before the season proper begins. We might even win!

Not expecting us to progress, but I hope to see a good, competitive performance, a narrow scoreline and a goal for us.

Only four of our Wembley winners start. Lot expected iof the new signings. Could be a long afternoon. Hopefully we catch Burnley under prepared. They didn't win any pre season games and their manager is new to English football. Gotta hope.

I think we learned a lot today. We need an experienced striker at this level. Chances will be at a premium and we need to take them. Leicester at home is something to be excited about. Can't wait...

There were lots of positives to take from that game, Notts performed very well and could have won if Khouyar’s shot right at the end had been on target. Roberts’ goal was superb that will give him lots of confidence. It’s been well documented that we need more bodies particularly upfront and I expect there to be more coming in between now and the close of the transfer window.

In his interview Paterson was asked if any new faces would coming in before Leicester, his one word answer was “yes”.

Yeah I feared the worst when I saw the Burnley teamsheet, I was pleasntly surprised and really encouraged after watching that to be honest.

I thought all the new players did well, mad to think Dean Campbell is still probably putting names to faces but he played like he'd been in our team for a season! In fact the trio of him, Cooper, Evans for a first-time all playing together looked really quite impressive. I'll leave my feelings about inverted wingbacks to one side but Lipsuic, up against Edwards who was playing for Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League a few seasons ago, was really good too. And Cal banging in a goal like that was like turning the clock back a few years, we need someone like him who is capable of scoring from deep every now and again and after yesterday's showing he's off to a good start.

All in all a really solid performance against a team that has aspirations to go straight back up to the Premier League, if that is the kind of standard of performance level we should be able to hold our own in League 1.

I feel much better after that! Very impressive to hold a team full of quality and with Premier League ambitions to a draw after 90 minutes. Also great to see Cal Roberts getting off the mark early, hopefully that'll give him the confidence to make the step up.

It's a shame we went out with the PL teams joining in the next round, but before the game I'd have settled for avoiding a spanking. Now we have something to build on ahead of Leicester.

I didn't listen to the game, but I checked the score/stats and noticed at points Burnley had 70%+ percent of possession. Taking Burnley to penalties is also a good result, because it shows defensively we can deal with quality. It's a shame to lose on pens, especially after Cal Roberts put us ahead, but it does allow us to focus on the league.

It should also give fans some hope because they are a good team, regardless of it being early days in the new campaign.
